This place is underrated! They have great breakfast bagel options available. My order was a custom bacon breakfast sandwich bagel. I got an Asiago cheese bagel and added jalapeño cream cheese, but it was still less than $6! Such a deal! It was fairly busy but my order was ready in about 5 minutes. In the relentless pursuit of the jalapeño cheddar bagel, I fell upon this place. So, for years we had been getting our bagels from either Einstein in RB or Big Apple here in N County. What I have loved about their bagels over the years is the excess crispy cheese found melted at the base of the bagel as well as at the top. A lot of crunch when toasted, beautifully soft and chewy like a bagel should be, and a little grease from the crispy cheese. However, phoning-in or online ordering from Einstein RB is a nightmare that they've never bothered to remedy so it's a hassle. And I'm not certain if Big Apple changed their bagel recipe? At any rate, I was pursuing another bagel place that I could order from and I came across ILB's. I drove all the way from the N Esco-Valley Center area to pick up. This morning I had one of their jalapeño cheddar bagels and I was quite pleased! It was obvious upon visual inspection that their bagels don't have all the extra cheese like some of the other bagel establishments, however, it was still amazing and wonderful! Was in the area and saw they had Taylor Ham. Growing up in NJ it was a staple on a bagel. I have lowered my bagel shop expectations after 16 years on the West Coast but this delivered. A bagel/deli place with average stuff. I came around noon on a saturday, so not many bagels were in the case, but it looked like they were making random bagels still. Most seemed to look on the darker side. I decided on the pizza bagel...comes with sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. It was made alright, but the bagel wasn't completely heated when it was made...but that's not a major issue. I think this is a good choice to mask the flavor of the bagel, because I mostly tasted the sauce. I tried to taste the toppings on the everything bagel, but they were mostly burnt. Was not impressed last time in. The breakfast bagel has what appears to be a simulated egg, it's so miniscule. Hard to imagine chickens could produce an egg of that teeny size. Maybe they're midget chickens, I don't know. And there was an equal amount of cheese in fact it was so nonexistent that twice I opened the thing up to actually look for it. How there could be less cheese used I do not know that either. The third thing I don't know is how they get off with charging $3.50 for orange juice that's not fresh squeezed. Yes, it looks very tasty in appetizing sitting there in the cooler and it's large container but to pay that amount for it and have it be your typical concentrate is simply a gouge. The other thing I find very annoying is the additional charge for a little bit of jam. Come on folks, that's a standard offering in your field, is it not?? Great selection of cream cheese and they have Wise chips and some other east coast treats. This place feels like a NY shop - great local vibe and you're in and out pretty quickly. Hold up...wait a minute ! Go to the Home Depot next door to this bagel shop almost every day and have yet to stop in here. I continue to say to myself I need to go in there and yet I never do... until Friday!! I truly just wanted a cup of coffee but when I walked into the shop and smelled all the fresh Bagels cooking I couldn't help myself but order an onion bagel, as well as the coffee. Very inexpensive at under $5 for the coffee and the bagel, great selection of coffees! I would normally get a Colombian but on this amazing day I chose the Kona. I saved everything until I got to the office and then unveiled the glorious bagel. the gal had not toasted it so it was still warm on the inside but the exterior was crispy from the onion topping and being cooked in the oven. The soft warm bagel with the crispy texture on top was incredible. The Kona coffee was fantastic as well very deep and dark and delicious. Now I'm afraid that my daily trip to Home Depot will be marred by a desire to visit this bagel shop, and I just can't do that everyday people. I used to be able to call in my order, drive over and pay when i got there. Ive done this PLENTY OF TIMES. Super easy as i work right down the street. Now you have to pay over the phone (i only carry cash). I decided ok ill just drive the 2 mins it takes over and order. Let me put it to you frankly: this place has the most legit New York-like bagels - and I say "like" because unless you're in NY you shouldn't claim you've had real NY bagels ;) My favorite are the everything bagels because they are so tasty and since this place is one of the only ones I've seen actually boil the dough, it's as legit as you can get! Now to take it to another dimension, they have EVERYTHING FLAGELS! Those are flat bagels (without all the extra dough of a regular bagel and with more of the awesome seasoning.) We've been fortunate enough to have them here and were shocked since I haven't seen them since I lived in NYC! They were again: too legit to quit! I am sad to hear they don't have them often because they "don't sell" and because I'm told the employees mess them up since they can't cut them properly. Seriously? Get a bagel cutter and stick those babies in there! Great bagels! Make them in house. Good variety! My favorite is orange cranberry with strawberry cream cheese. Their lox are spectacular, bagel dogs are as well. Many options to choose from!
