Looks better than it tastes unfortunately

Dedicating my 600th review to the restaurant I have probably been to the most in my life. I was surprised that there was a restaurant on campus, but I soon learned that this was a blessing in disguise as the amount of meal points you can use here is wonderful. Since I always have too many meal points, I frequented this place A LOT. It seems like where they make Ibby's food is the same place where the make DUC food. The only difference is that Ibby's food is plated and therefore, seems fancier. I came here typically more than 3x a week so I have had the opportunity to try their menu many times over. Here are my favorites: - Banana Foster - Best dessert on campus no cap. The vanilla ice cream works perfectly well with the very sweet caramel and brownie. This may also be my favorite dessert because I never had a Banana Foster before coming to WashU but this thing is seriously good. - Parmesan Fries - They come with a lot of entrees so you don't need to buy it as a side. The fries are ridiculously good - crispy on the outside and mashed potato consistency on the inside. One of the things I will definitely miss after graduation. - Fish anything - Whether that's the lunch buffet option (pre-COVID) or dinner, get the fish. It's so tender and I feel like the quality is pretty good. - Brussel Sprouts - WashU makes the best brussel sprouts in the world. It's so weird that this is their specialty but they roast it until its very crispy and full of the vinaigrette, lemon flavor. - Steamed Green Beans - Simple but delicious. The one thing is though they don't give you a lot when you buy this item, so you might need to buy 2 to feel full. - Calamari - I know that WashU is not near the ocean but it may as well be. The calamari is so good, I definitely have eaten just this dish for dinner many times. I think the reason why it is good is because of how much parmesan then put on it and the tomato dipping sauce is awesome. - I miss the buffet, so the buffet. So the reason for the 4 stars is because some of their food is pretty questionable. Sweet Potato Pasta used to be pretty good but now its just a white sauce mess with chickpeas and mint? It's a weird combination if you ask me. The Bistro Salad is also kind of gross, but also I don't love beets. Also they stopped changing their menus as much during COVID which is pretty disappointing. Overall, really great campus food option to kill some meal points. But if I was just a regular visitor on campus I would not come here. The prices are just not worth it. Go to BD or DUC instead.

I was invited the other night to have dinner with some members of the WashU Administration to this new on-campus restaurant. I was not disappointed. Ibby's is named in honor of the former Chancellor's wife, Elizabeth Danforth. She passed away a few years ago and the new restaurant in the university center was sought to honor her name. I was surprised to see such a nice place to eat on WashU's campus. The best part is they take WashU dining points! They initially brought out delicious bread samples for us to try as part of our dinner. With the bread, they gave us humus and olive oil for dipping. I asked for the wine list and ultimately chose a riesling to drink with my potato pasta I ordered. The temperature of the food was excellent and the pasta was delicious. It was mixed with a pesto sauce! For dessert, I tried the chocolate cake. What a pleasant surprise! It was very rich and creamy. It even came with a little white chocolate butterfly on the side (which is also in the logo of the restaurant's name!). If you have the bucks to spare (or the points), then I would definitely encourage you to try this place out!

For WashU students with extra meal points (Freshmen that's you!) , Ibbys is the best way to blow it off [it beats those 5 boxes of Poptarts... Trust me). This pseudo-restaurant within WashU, which has been consistently rated as top college food in the nation, is conveniently located and just the place to celebrate a weekday birthday (before the REAL weekend celebration), a good exam, dinner with suitemates, etc. if you're feeling too lazy to go off campus. AND they serve alcohol (for those 21+) We came for dinner tonight. For appetizers we had "fried green tomatoes" which was tart, and lightly browned and crisp on the outside. I had the roast chicken with grilled veggies and quinoa on the side When I took the first bite of roasted chicken I had as an entree, I was surprised by how moist the thigh was.. but then when I tried my second piece it was, while still soft, rougher and not consistent. The quinoa was nice and garlic-laden, just the way I liked it. The fries (they call 'em pomme frittes) that I mooched off of a friend's entree were SO good. Flavored with garlic, paprika, and raw pieces of rock salt they had a taste that packed a punch and the crispness that accompanied them was supurb. My friend's "trout" was a little disappointing however. While not terrible, it was a little on the dry side (probably because they were so thinly sliced). Creme brulee was very creamy, but lacking in flavor within the custard. Fortunately, the maple brown layer of crunch over the brulee had a strong taste to compliment the blandness. I would have preferred to give a 3.5- Yelp needs half star functions- and I'll be probably going back soon cause I live on campus and it's a nice change from dorm food.

The only reason I, and many other WashU students, go to Ibby's is because we have extra meal points we want to spend at the end of the year. Alternatively, it is a place where couples without cars go for dates/birthdays because it is easily accessible. Is Ibby's really worth it if we paid with actually $$$? No. Are meal points real money? Ehhh. Let me walk you through the go-to's and no-no's at Ibby's: Drinks: - Sangria? Hell yes, if you have the meal points and you're 21+, definitely go for it. Appetizers: - Calamari? Yes, always. - Bistro fries? Yes yes yes. - Salad? No no no. Please save yourself from the weird salad with gouda cheese, string onion rings, and fruit. Not a good time. Main course: - T-bone steak? Yeeees. Last year, Ibby's used to save prime rib Thursday's for 21, and it was the best day of the week. This is the second best thing to that basically if you're a meat eater. - Potato Gnocchi? Yes, one of their signature's and it's pretty creamy. Get the chicken because it's pretty tender and flavorful, but watch out because it might be a little undercooked (and pink inside). Tell the waiter if this happens. - Amish Chicken? Yes, if you are looking for something simple and filling. Maybe switch up the sides a bit, and watch again for if that chicken is undercooked. Desserts: - Bananas Foster? Eh, I personally did not really enjoy this that much, but some people swear by it. I just think it's overall a little too sweet and I thought the bananas would be caramelized in an almost crunchy way. Try it though if you haven't had a chance. - Ice cream? Eh, also unsure about this. I ordered ice cream to go, and it was so horrible I could taste the ice chunks in it (from a bad freezer that doesn't get defrosted regularly), and it had a really gross texture like it had melted and been refrozen. Watch out because I don't know if this is a regular thing. I know Serendipity and Jilly's have amazing ice cream, but I am hesitant to trusting how Ibby's goes about storing it. Thanks Ibby's for the visits this year, I guess I will see you again starting in late April~

As a proud WashU student, Ibby's epitomizes the high culinary standards that the school has. I'm a regular at this on-campus restaurant and it is hands-down my favorite way to use my meal points. Whether I'm grabbing lunch (there are buffet and a la carte menus available Tu-F) or having a celebratiry dinner after finals, Ibby's is a shining light on WashU's campus. After 4 years, I've seen many cycles of Ibby's seasonally rotating menu. The waitstaff is incredible and service is excellent and always willing to make accommodations and substitutions. I look forward to the new dishes at Ibby's this year. What's hot: - Sangria: A pitcher of Ibby's sangria of the day is absolutely necessary. Appetizers- - Bistro Fries: These are a mainstay on the menu and the love of my life. I always ask for extra sauces, especially the creamy aioli. - Calimari: Perfectly simple. These won't disappoint. Mains: - Potato Gnocchi: This is Ibby's signature dish. Creamy clouds in a leek-cream sauce with tomatoes, broccoli and parm. Ask for it with chicken. - Amish Chicken or Bistro burger: These are staples on the menu. While their accoutrements change, they are ever-present and sure to satisfy a craving. Only once has my chicken come out slightly undrecooked to which the waiters quickly brought me a new dish. Dessert: - Bananas foster: The star of the show. Some brownies are better than others but this is always a hit. - Jilly's ice cream: I haven't had a flavor that I don't like. Some of my favorite seasonal specials: - Seasonal risotto: These can be hit or miss but one particular butternut squash risotto was the best I had ever had. - Sweet potatoes with hummus and goat cheese: A delightful appetizer. - Smore's tart: GET THIS. - Vegetable curry: Love this new dish they released after New Year 2016. These, and many other dishes at Ibby's have left me full, happy, and ready for my next meal. Thanks for keeping me well-fed, Ibby's!

Please take the quiche off the menu.

I generally have low standards for foods, so it's pretty rare that I feel this disappointed by a dish. My friend and I both ordered the quiche entrees and struggled to eat it as the texture and (lack of flavor) became nauseating at some point. They were basically just very watery, steamed eggs with no crust (?? so not a quiche). The picture of the dish says it all. I would've preferred eating just straight-up raw tofu over this.

I'll be up front and disclose that I AM NOT A SALAD PERSON. The closest form of a salad that I eat would be a chicken Caesar wrap laden with dressing and cheese and carbs with probably 2000 calories. That said, boy was my elote salad at Neon Greens enjoyable. It is a lil pricey but worth it once I dug in and really enjoyed myself and learned more about the shop and their mission. They grow everything themselves - so cool. I love the friendly employees and the really really fresh greens and combinations. I got the cheese bread but was really close to ordering the soup instead. I'll skip the bread and try the soup next time. No matcha soft serve available the day that I went.

You walk into this older building and it just opens up into this bright, clean, almost energizing space . I went with the Umami Crunch with tofu and... yeah, this is the kind of place that makes you realize how rare a really good salad is. Like, when do you ever eat a salad and think, "the lettuce is incredible"? That happened here. Everything tasted fresh in a way that's hard to explain unless you've had it. And then you find out why--they literally have a hydroponic farm attached. Not just for show either... they do tours, and a lot of what you're eating is coming straight from there. It makes the whole experience feel different in the best way. The portions are huge, super filling, and still somehow feel light and clean. I also grabbed a local blue spirulina kombucha that ended up being one of the best I've had. If you keep wandering toward the back, it turns into this almost maze-like space, and on weekends they do a pop-up called Biscuit Town with breakfast items (including vegan options). It just keeps going. Honestly, I walked in craving a REALLY good salad and left wondering why it's so hard to find places like this. This is one of those spots you go to once and immediately know you'll be back.

I'm disappointed that it took me so long to make my way here. They won me over with the tiny dedicated parking lot. At my big age, difficult parking situations are a turn off and I will go home if I can't get reasonable parking. I was able to snag a space in the lot and headed in. The space is a bit dark with rich sage, brass, and terracotta. There are several hanging plants making it an inviting place. The bar has plenty of comfortable seating and cozy tables if you decide to bring some friends. Caleb was our server during our visit. He was an absolute delight. He made excellent cocktail suggestions. He looked after our group without being overly doting. Just a gem of a human. We tried approximately 9 cocktails during our visit. Did I mention we were at brunch! I highly recommend the peach bite and the Side Car. Every cocktail is thoughtfully made and well executed. They offer a small brunch menu along with the regular menu. I usually always get chilaquiles when they are available. But today the ruby trout and grits sounded perfect. This dish was amazing!! The trout was thin with crispy skin. The grits were creamy and delicious. The dish is topped with a house made radish pico and salsa macha. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich that was paired with the crispiest breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The burger and fries are also a good option. The seasoning on the fries is next level. The brunch menu has a sticky toffee roll that is a perfect size for sharing or not. Salty sweet fork tender cinnamon roll. Lastly, the deviled eggs were a group favorite. I am a big fan of Passenger Chili Crisp. If you are unfamiliar please look them up! It's hands down the best chili crisp I've ever had. It's locally made here in STL and can also be found in several dishes at restaurants around town. The eggs were creamy with the right amount of tang from the mustard. The chili crisp made these deviled eggs easily top five best I've ever had! Planning to stop in again soon for happy hour with more friends

We both got a standard espresso martini to finish (they use cold brew) and it was lovely as well. No creaminess, nice coffee flavor and not overly sweet. Since it was our first time we got a little welcome cordial - that was a nice addition to our experience. Our waitress was very nice as well. We got our food quickly - pimento cheese dip with house made chips and the Brussels sprout Caesar salad. Pimento cheese dip was very creamy, chips were so thin they kept breaking but they were seasoned well and had a good crunch. The Brussels sprout Caesar was great! Very light but Brussels sprouts were crispy. Even the half size was large for us!
