Small and simple. Upon entering Ice Monster, my fiance and I were promptly greeted by the staff. Customer service is one of my biggest gripes, and simply greeting us upon entering made us feel like welcomed guests. The menu was primarily dessert food, and my fiance and I were having a craving for a quick sugary fix, and Ice Monster definitely delivered. The waffles are incredibly delicious, and the crepes are something everyone should at least try once- I promise you will not be disappointed. The way the food is arranged on the platters are literally works of art. The food is good, and it is aesthetically pleasing. Two thumbs way up. Overall, a great experience. The staff was incredibly friendly, the food was delicious, and they waiters were asking what could be improved in our experience at Ice Monster, which is one of my favorite things to be asked after enjoying a meal- whether it be from a waiter or any staff for that matter. Don't waste your time or money. I came here 10 minutes before closing and the staff offered free boba to the people in front of us but charged me for my boba. Are you serious?? What a way to please your customers. After taking 10 minutes to make a simple drink, my honeydew milk tea was brown and extremely sweet with black syrup at the bottom. The boba was soggy and stuck together and wouldn't even run through the straw. To top it off, I paid an arm and a leg for this crap and they locked the doors on us so I guess I'm stuck with this tea I won't even drink. Word of advice to the management: don't allow your staff to offer free boba while the next customer in line can hear and then fail to offer it to everyone. Unbelievable. Stopped by late last night about 30 mins from close to try this gem out. It was relatively empty except for 2 other customers that came in when I was there. The space is not too big, but their menu selection of treats is pretty extensive. I looked on the board to see a list of top 10 most popular items and ordered #1 and #9 (I wanted my second order to be a drink of sorts to take on the road back to the hotel). #1 was the mango shaved ice with condensed milk. Instead of mango boba, I got actual mango fruit chunks. The shaved ice with the condensed milk was thick and creamy, full of flavor. The mango smoothie I had while driving back to the hotel was good as well, but not the absolute best I've ever had. I fly out today back to Dallas, TX, while here on a work trip, but wanted to try this shop out because of the high reviews and to compare it against many of the Asian dessert and shaved ice locations we have in Dallas. This would rank up there amongst the best of them where I'm from. Happy I went out of my way, just a little bit, to try this place. So happy my friend posted a picture of their dessert on instagram because the next day my boyfriend and I went to try it out. It really is so good!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful with in choosing our dessert, and we ended up getting the chocolate waffle and crepe!! Was beyond delicious and the appearance looked even better! We make a pilgrimage to the original Ice Monster in Taipei, Taiwan every time we go there so when I heard they opened up in our neck of the woods (even before San Jose or LA!!!) I almost fell out of my chair and rushed over. The original store in Taipei is known for their fresh mango and other fresh fruit over specially shaved slivers of thin ice -- which is almost like a bowl of freshly fallen snowflakes but way better. The Ice Monster order taker was very friendly and explained how to order the ice, what all the options were and answered questions with ease. The ice was delivered in less than 5 minutes as expected since the place was mostly empty on a holiday Monday afternoon. We had "kid" size bowls of shaved milk ice with mango topped with sweetened condensed milk, and green tea shaved ice with boba and sweetened condensed milk. Pretty basic stuff but really good for what it is. Wished they had given more mango but then again this was the "kid" size - maybe they should explain the portion really is for kids. Will definitely be coming back - next time will go for the regular size or double-up on toppings paying the extra $0.50 each. Note#1: Decide how sweet you want your dish if like me you have to have the condensed milk - consider choosing ice and toppings that are less sweet and don't hesitate to ask. Some reviewers complained about this but it really is an ordering issue. Note#2: About the style of this shaved ice...In this area it would be tough to sell traditional Taiwanese shaved ice (although they do have the red beans) which it seems some reviewers were hoping for. Ice Monster here as in Taiwan is a reinvented fruit-over-ice concoction and trust me it's really good! If you want the Taiwanese traditional shaved ice you'll need to go elsewhere. read more

Taiwanese shaved snow in this part of the bay area - who would have ever thought! This is amazing! There are serious times where I am craving the same shaved snow (and no not shaved ice, those are two different items to you non-foodies, or you foodies who you think are foodies) and just can't think of another place to get it except in Los Angeles. Now there are a few places in San Francisco, but they didn't really do the job, and they were really expensive. The shaved snow at Ice Monster was PERFECT. A medium for $7 is more than enough for two people. I say it could actually be split by three people. You get one topping, and one sauce. The only sauce you should ever get is condensed milk. I also added mochi, and it was good. My only complaint is that the toppings were a bit meek. I felt slightly jipped. I cannot attest to the boba, but for shaved snow, this is the place to be. I never had a freshly made iced milk tea, most of them were already pre-made, Ice Monster makes it fresh, they shake it right in front of your eyes. Taiwanese shave snow is hard to come by near where I live so I was happy to find out when this place opened up. We ordered a milk tea, a tiger tea, and a regular green tea shaved snow with mochi and condensed milk (The shaved snow comes with a free topping and syrup. I wonder how they make it look the way it does, its look so nice with ribbons of green tea shaved snow and creamy once you start eating it and it tasted so good! I was not disappointed. We ordered the regular size and it was perfect for two people. There is a kids size which is good for one person and a monster size which is good for 3-5 people. The prices are reasonable and it came out relatively fast after we had ordered. I was very happy that they were part of the Five Stars rewards program so that every time you spend a $1.00, you earn a point towards free drinks, shaved snow, etc. It's a free rewards program, so sign up for it especially if you find yourself to be a regular over there. They have merchandise that you can purchase as well, next time I'm getting a terracotta drink cup. The service was great and very hospitable. It was not busy when we went but probably after 3pm, it starts to get busy considering school is out. Ice Monster is one of my new favorite places to go for a satisfying sweet treat and delicious tea. The employees are all incredibly kind, and will quickly remember your order if you're a regular like me. The most wonderful thing about their shaved snow is how light it is. Unlike other desserts that, while delicious, feel heavy in your stomach, shaved snow satisfies that sweet tooth without knocking you into a food coma. I highly suggest the original milk flavor with strawberry syrup and condensed milk syrup. If you've never tried their bubbles (not to be confused with boba) it's definitely worth the experience.
