There are many choices for Asian seafood in Los Angeles. And we've been to many of them only to leave feeling guilty for the glutton that we were. Reasons that it seems in a buffet wr keep searching for the food that was worth paying, like looking for that toy in the bottom of a cereal box. Ichiban buffet must be doing right if you base the long lines at the door. We were there at morning and third in line which we feel is the sweet spot. Once seated the regulars seem to gravitate towards the crabs. For this price I've never tasted crab legs so tender but not soggy, dinginess crab filled with roe and umami flavor. We thought it ended there but the fried fish tasted fresh, the calamari was chewy and crunchy, the fried shrimp was also tender yet crunchy. There are many more choices but we limited our selection. Between meals we had some tasty kimchi and pickled radish drown the taste and cleanse our palate. The place has been open for 10 months. Was looking forward to a local seafood buffet. What I loved: variety, freshness, quick-moving line, and replenishment of food. Variety of shrimp and crab options. Seafood and fried food options were plentiful and so were the veggies. VWhat I didn't like: many items on the buffet taste like they've been made in the same sauce with the same ingredients. That being said, many items lacked flavor and spices. Carpets next to almost all the tables were covered with food. Yes, people are pigs. Yes, it was cleaned very fast, but by the looks of it they are not being professionally cleaned daily. Leaves me to assume that the amount of dirt, bacteria, and grime that's in and under these carpets is unimaginable. Time to switch to tile. Bathrooms were filthy. I don't mean dirt, but the level of cleanliness. Every inch of the restroom must be detail-cleaned daily. Desserts were very stale and dry. I glanced at the ingredients of the ice cream and it states "contains bioengineered food". What's it in?? Parents beware! The soups were bland. I hope this spot raises the bar regarding flavor and cleanliness. We need them to succeed. So many wonderful options and at $22 for dinner, the line should be blocks long. Ichiban Buffet offers a bang for your buck. Thanks to a fellow Yelp friend, Sanny C., I came to Ichiban on a Saturday right at opening for their lunch buffet ($21.99). They serve crab and ribeye steak during dinner and weekend buffet prices. Man, did they have a lot of choices to choose from here. I was impressed that they have so much variety of food, including crab and made-to-order teppanyaki. For the price, you really can't go wrong, as there is something for everyone. Drinks are not included in the buffet price, but you can have all the water you can drink. I felt that the food quality was very good considering the variety of offerings there were. The staff was friendly and came to take away plates often. The crab was the star of the show for me. It's a lot of work to eat, but it was worth it. I'd definitely come back to this place again, and I highly recommend coming right at opening because they are busy. read more

Boy, has this place gone southwards in last few months!!! A $21.99 seafood buffet with many seafood options including shrimp, clams, mussels, king crab legs and cajun crab - sounds impossible right? That's what this place started delivering when it opened in Gardena 8 months back. We really liked it. Fast forward 8 months, we went there for late lunch today to see at least 40 people waiting in line. But the servers were quick to give us a table. They have changed few things from last time, but mostly it was the same. We started with sushi and sashimi. The fishes lacked flavor and tasted like they have been in the freezer for very long time. I tasted the cajun crab and there was no "cajun" taste in the crab - it was bland with very low quality of seafood. Same happened with the crab legs - they tasted ok but were extremely briny. At this point I tried some fried rice with pepper chicken - the rice in the fried rice was hard to chew and the chicken tasted like it was from last year. Only thing I liked and I think that was fresh was the papaya. There ends my lunch and my last visit to ichiban. This place had such potential but somebody has determined to kill it with old stale food. read more

MOST DISRESPECTFUL PLACE!! We went lunch time and we were charged dinner just because we went in at 2:30PM and left at 4:00PM. Our meals are lunch and they charged us for dinner. It was 8 of us and we started complaining, they ganged up on us and wouldn't let us leave unless we pay for the dinner price. WATCH FOR HOW SNEAKY THEY ARE. Loved that they had crab legs and ice cream not many places have those for this price point. It's very hard to come by a good buffet that serves quality food with a variety of options - that's where Ichiban excels. Came in around 7pm and was seated immediately. The waiter was quick with our drinks and utensils so within the first minute I got to help myself to their buffet. Ambiance was great - lots of seating, not cramped, and plenty of room. My favorites: I don't know what the sushi names were but they were all delicious. I loved the gyozas and the fried rice was tasty. This spot is going to become a regular for me. I was there on Sunday afternoon at 1pm got in no problem, but after that people were waiting for seating on a comfortable couch provide by the restaurant and outside nice wood bench similar to upgraded bus stops. Not bad, not great. But at $22ish per person for dinner it's worth a try. They had a decent selection of food, and I think the main draw is all of the crab they have. They also give you gloves to help with the crab. I don't love crab personally, but I generally go for sashimi to meet my "buffet worth it" check list. The downside is that when we went for dinner on Friday, they put out sashimi once and it went quickly. Then they didn't put it one again for the rest of the 1.5 hours we were there. Nigiri was mostly imitation crab. Sushi rolls were mostly California roll based. Overall the sushi section was not very impressive-had they offered sashimi more often/consistently I may have changed my mind on my overall review The other food options weren't bad-the stand out for me was weirdly the take out style chow mein lol. Went there last Thursday the food was cold and dry, the teppanyaki section was filthy and small flies were everywhere inside the section and on the food. They had a huge variety but again it was cold and dry. Service was okay most of the workers speaks very limited English. When I asked for the manager to report the situation I was told that the manager was not there. Food was good and there's lots of options to choose from especially the seafood selection here! I recommend this spot if you're hungry or want to go out with your family to eat lots of food for a great price! Crab legs were good and Cajun crab was also good! We arrived around 6 PM which was right before the dinner. Rush started and our weight was not long to get seated. It was just two of us, my daughter and I. You order your drink when seated and you pay at the end the buster is walking around are really diligent on taking the trash and empty plates and refilling the drinks. The food selection was amazing. The only thing that was weird for me was the shrimp stuffed with cheese. It taste tasted like shrimp poop. Also, their fried rice could be better, but the coconut shrimp was hitting and the crab legs. The sushi was actually spicy and they had a lot of other food. I'm kind of used to buffets having an ice cream bar, but this one didn't and it had very few dessert selections. Some of the food was not labeled, but I would say 90% of it was. We tried almost everything, and it was delicious. I would say the pricing is pretty average and the fact that it was nicely decorated and clean is nice plenty of parking in the parking lot and lots of seating inside if we are ever in the area.
