Very disappointed in the quality of Ichibon now days. The greeter wouldn't speak up and I had no idea what he was saying. The sweet tea tasted off and overheard someone next to me say the same. The sushi was extremely disappointing and the hibachi steak and rice had a very odd taste to it. The soy dipping plate was dirty. Gave this dump another try, huge mistake. They served us spoiled food and then wouldn't return our money for it. Offered us a hibachi for replacement, for $50! The owner wouldn't even come out and speak to my mom, he sent a messenger back and forth instead of just coming out to apologize. Then said owner comes on Yelp to continue to ARGUE about it instead of making it right. We are a service industry family and very understanding people. It was fabulous. There was a 45 min wait so we decided to sit at the bar. Best choice of the night. The dinner bento box was fabulous. You get to watch all of the fun of the hibachi tables but you can order the sushi too! I love the sushi and hibachi steak. So the bar is where I will be sitting from now on. I used to love this place. I ordered steak and scallops a 30$ plate I was given 3 scallops and like 3oz of steak. Ichihon is literally the only place I'll get my sushi from. It's consistently clean and fresh. Never have I ever been sick from consuming raw fish thanks to ichibon! The atmosphere is amazing the lighting is comfortable and the music is never too loud. I'll forever be a fan of this beautiful restaurant. So 3/11/22 I ordered $105 worth of pick up food. Sushi, hibachi steak and shrimp, hibachi steak and chicken, and a kids meal... after eating a bite of salad and stirring it around there was a black small curly hair. Gagged (I'm pregnant) and proceeded to give the meal a try since it was maybe just a mixed salad issue. After taking plenty of bites, moving toward the veggies there was ANOTHER hair in my veggies!!! Absolutely repulsed. I called the store and spoke to the manager. He told me that he could only give me back $25 since that was what the cost of one salad and one meal costs. After I spent over $100 here!!! I don't understand how a restaurant could do that. I will NEVER BE BACK HERE AGAIN! Don't waste your money. read more

I was trying to think what to write to go with this 1 star rating. And well, not much I can say but the truth, and share my experience. First, it was pretty full tonight, but that's expected on a Friday night, No big deal, however I was annoyed with the group of ladies that were sat at our hibachi grill. They were treated with hugs from staff & the managers, very well greeted. Must be friends of the owners.. I ordered an appetizer called Crab Puff & 1 order of spicy tuna rolls. I watched everyone around me got their appetizers an I did NOT get mine. But the ladies next to me, got theirs. I suspect the friend of the managers took my appetizer, cause I sure didn't see her eat it, but she took it. I never got my spicy tuna roll & I waited a bit, thinking it arrive later, After the hibachi was done, still no spicy tuna roll arrived. I watched as my friends ate their food & enjoyed it. I saw that group of ladies acting like everything had to be specially ordered or made for them. I never got my spicy tuna roll, or my crab puffs, I wanted to slap the lady next to me so badly. Since CLEARLY this lady & her friends were friends of the owners/restaurant staff she got discounts or stuff for free I bet. I excused myself to the bathroom and spoke to a staffer, eventually they redid bill, removing the spicy tuna & crab puff I never got. But not till AFTER they gave my friend the bill first Good thing I told him and told the staffer, they were going to charge us for stuff they never gave me. What upsets me is they did NOT take my concern very serious nor did they apologize. I guess that lady and her friends who were friends with the owners/restaurant are MUCH,MUCH more important then me or anyone else. We also were never asked if we wanted ice cream, etc but again THAT lady & her friends were. You know what Ichibon keep your arrogant friends, keep your crab puffs, spicy tuna & ice cream. I will NEVER return here again, and I'll make sure my friends avoid this place. I do NOT what these same ladies being sat with them & taking their appetizers! I've been here a few time for hibachi but the reason I come back again and again is for the sushi! You just cannot beat their dollar sushi night, if you come on Wednesday be prepared to wait a while as it is very busy but it is soo worth it! Steak and shrimp were good, had decent flavor. Rice was ok. The only sauce options were ginger, teriyaki, and honey mustard. Honey mustard doesn't go with steak, shrimp, or rice. Where is the YUM YUM sauce???? I thought this was a Japanese steak house?? I didn't like that they charged an extra $3.75 to have fried rice with your hibachi dinner, when it's included at most other Japanese steakhouses. Also, they didn't have soup included with the hibachi dinner. Two meals, no soup, no yum yum sauce, was $80 without tip. In my opinion, you could spend $80 better elsewhere. read more

Terrible food, we ordered a boat for two, the food on the boat looks great but my mood turned sour until they bring out the cold miso soup, soggy, cold, extremely bland and even has some fishy sme (scallops). Everything is extremely BLAND, take a bite into the heavily battered tempuras and you cant even see whats inside because they are covered in batter. Definitely not even worth for me to return to try their hot grill. This place has standard dining, a bar, and hibachi. We usually go for the $1 sushi night on Wednesday. This is a very popular time and the wait is usually 30 min, unless you show up at 4. The sushi is just amazing. I have had sushi from gas stations to fish right out of the sea. This is good stuff and very cheap on Wednesdays. They also have happy hour sushi prices that are pretty good everyday. We usually get their house salad and fried rice. This is some of the best fried rice I have had. Overall a great place. Previously I would have giving this place much more stars, because there food over the years has been really good. We used to love the sushi. But it seems like the last 6 months the food is mediocre.. It doesn't taste as fresh and just doesn't have that same delicious quality. Not sure what has happen to this place, but really wish the old Ichibon could come back Defiantly looking for a new sushi place. Unfortunately we do not have a lot of options. Last time we went the order was supposed to only take 15 mins. 1 hours later my order was ready. Well a order was ready. Luckily I looked at my order and discovered it was wrong. They took it back in the kitchen and redid one roll I ordered which took 30 mins. I do not understand what took so long. It was very frustrating. I told them just to forget rematching that one roll. She advised me that it was ready and they were bringing it. Ughh 10 mins later here comes my order. They did try and make amends by giving me a small salad. . The salad was sweet with soggy panko and even the fried ice cream had panko. The kids loved it so I would go again for a birthday or such for the kids but not to just go eat. read more

I've been to this place many times and in the past, the food was good. The last two times, I see that the quality of the food has gone way downhill. The salad used to have carrot, now it's just bagged iceberg lettuce, which by the way was brown and wilted. I ordered the lunch bento box and the teriyaki chicken was so hard and dry, it was unappetizing. Also, the steak was tough and unappealing. Great Food. Great Visuals. Fun for the entire family! Whether it is a date night or a family night you, you can never go wrong with Ichibon! First, the location is a little hidden on Egret Bay Blvd however with the road becoming more populated, the more attention it gets. The place is always clean and with ease to get through the grills, like every other hibachi place the chairs are a little closer than what one would want but generally just tend to sit closer to the end of the grill. Their MAMA SAN is my favorite, it is delicious, refreshing and sweet! Now as far as their food? You honestly cannot go wrong with their teriyaki Chicken, Hibachi steak, or anything for that matter. My children are picky eaters but once they seen the performance while their food is being made they were so excited to eat something completely different. Now everytime we drive past Ichibon, my kiddos ask once again when will we be coming back again! read more

Having lived in Japan for a few years and then San Diego soon after I can seriously say that when on a search for good sushi you mainly look for two things. Freshness and price. These don't always go hand in hand which makes the search quite exciting. Ichibon has that 1,2 punch but the atmosphere of the place still turned me off a little. It's more family and business oriented. Not really my cup of tea. The price was slightly higher than other places in the area but not overly wallet emptying. Hands down my favorite Hibachi and I try it every where I go. The show is the same every where and does get tired if you frequent Hibachi places as much as I do. So the only thing that would make this place better was if they served the Hibachi menu in the regular dining room. I get tired of refusing to try and catch the rice in my mouth, because it more often gets down my shirt. Their food is amazing, still slightly different depending on the mexican pretending to be japanese chef, if you get Junior he is the best! Hands down their filet mignon is the best I've ever had, even better than what you find at a steak house. It is also very consistent. It has been just as good the last four or five times we had it. Don't be cheap and order the regular steak, the filet is exponentially better for just a little more. We usually split the Imperial Platter, which is chicken, shrimp and the filet. There is a split plate charge of $3, but relax it then comes with two salads or you can also substitute a soup. The ginger salad is the best that I can't help pigging out on it. The fried rice is perfection and is equally amazing as left overs, which we are almost guaranteed to have because their portions are more than needed. The service has always been great. You may be visited by what we have come to call the "drink ninja." Its the men that are in the background to clean and yes refill drinks. Combination Bento Box comes with Miso soup, Habachi Salad, Rice (Fried or steamed), Tempura Vegetables, Fried Shrimp Ball and a Crab Rangoon and your chioce of Three main dishes. We ordered: 1) Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Katsu, Rock n Roll 2) Shrimp Tempura, California Roll, and Rock n Roll 3) Shrimp Tempura, Sushi, Chicken Teriyaki. I enjoyed the Miso Soup, although there were complaints that the soup wasn't hot enough. I ate the Cucumber, the Crab Meat and the Tomatoes off the top of my Salad... but since I am allergic to lettuce, I was unable to eat the rest. From what I could taste of the salad dressing, it was good. I was very disappointed in my chicken teriyaki. The chicken was dry and there was not enough sauce to even taste the teriyaki. I loved the tempura vegetables and shrimp. The sushi was fresh and firm. The "Fried Shrimp Ball"... was almost like a shrimp stuffed hush puppy... and while completely interesting, I did like it. The Crab Rangoon (Fried Wonton mentioned in previous review) had just enough crab but was full of soft and creamy cream cheese that made a perfect dessert. I found Ichibon through Yelp, and I have to admit, my boyfriend and I were a bit turned off by their font choice when we arrived. The "boingy" cartoon-ish characters of ICHIBON was an eye sore and highly made me doubt the validity of this place. But we went in anyway. Inside was the opposite of what I expected: very nice and clean decor. We chose the non-hibachi section. Happy hour (every day from 3pm-7pm) menu is great! We chose the rock n' roll and hotategai (spicy chopped scallop) from the menu. Rock n' roll was huge! 5 pieces but definitely enough to split between 2 people. The hotategei was average, but they were also huge pieces. I also got the bento box, which I thought was a great deal. Soup, salad, vegetable tempura, steamed or fried rice, and 3 more items of your choice. I got the hibachi steak, skewer shrimp, and sashimi. The hibachi steak was dry, the skewer shrimp tasted old, and the sashimi did not taste fresh... It's sad, but I think my favorite part of the meal was the soup and salad! Service was very good, but I was really disappointed by the food. With such a great looking restaurant (minus the Ichibon sign), and with 1 new location to be added to the chain, I thought this place would have been much, much better. read more
