I came in one late afternoon planning to buy some bottled water and try some rolled ice cream for the first time. There was no line to order and the place was pretty empty; how lucky! Located in the heart of downtown Pleasanton, Icicles has been a really popular addition to the area. So after seeing so many people talk about this place and the massive line, I thought "might as well try it." The way it works is you order what you want and give them your name. Once that is done a person calls your name where they make your ice cream in front of you. Once they are done you go to the toppings counter where they finish putting a bunch of toppings on and you are good to go (you pay in the beginning. This ice cream shop is definitely different than your typical ice cream place and offers a cool experience, but it was just alright. I get it, rolled ice cream is IG worthy, but there are two factors that disappointed me. It is a bit pricy (over $7) for ice cream and it just tastes meh. Nothing really to write home about. I got a the coffee ice cream and again it was just alright. I can see myself coming here again if someone I know wanted to go, but I don't think I will ever have a craving to come. This place was packed on a weekend! The line was out the door and there were tons of people inside. The service was friendly and quick. The ice cream looks really unique since it's rolled up and it's fun to watch the servers make it but it's pricey at $7 a cup. They do give you a lot of ice cream (around a large size at other places) but it would be nice to have different sizes. The ice cream itself was creamy and tasty. I got the Strawberry Fantasy which has strawberries, graham crackers, and condensed milk. If you want your toppings mixed inside then make sure to let the person know when you order at the register. Otherwise the toppings will go on top. My fiance got the Wake Me Up which was hazelnut coffee. I've been wanting to try thai rolled ice cream from when I first saw a videos on Facebook. When I heard that Icicles replaced Yolatea (from whem I was in high school), I had to try it out. My first impression was that the high school kids that are employeed here get put to work! My boyfriend paid for my ice cream, and I had no idea that it cost so much! $7 without tip, and you should tip because these kids work so hard! I went with the expectation that it would be fun to try this ice cream gimmick I've seen online and that I probably wouldn't return for the ice cream itself - but I 100% will. Although I expected the ice cream to be icey based on how they prepare it, it's super dense and creamy. I think ordering is a bit hectic in that you really have to listen to your name being called out otherwise you can miss your order. I would suggest keeping an eye out for the cup that the cashier writes your name on when you originally place your order! The staff seems very friendly. Wait wasn't bad compared to San Jose, probably around a 15 minute wait. Dessert Ice cream is pretty pricey here, around $7 for one. They don't come in sizes, but its a good portion for two people to share! I got a cereal killer. If you've been to NYC, it's really reminiscent to the KITH cereal ice cream. Finished lunch in downtown Pleasanton and our friend suggested stopping by Icicles. It was my first time getting the rolled up ice cream so of course I was excited! The place was spacious, clean and open. Plenty of seating and good customer service. I asked for the most popular flavor and it was mint Oreo cookies and cream. They call your name and you get to watch them make the ice cream rolls. There are also unlimited toppings you can put on top but I just asked for more Oreos. Cool experience and I'd get it again. I went to Icicles because it was conveniently located near where I had dinner and there was a line going out the door at 11pm. So either this place is good or everyone is crazy. This place is good! I enjoyed watching the employees make your ice cream and after a while, I had a favorite maker and I wanted to request her for mine! It's like if an Asian Cold Stone and Pinkberry had a baby! Remember cold stone when they would chop/mix/ blend all these toppings and such into your ice cream? Just imagine that but with more Asian inspired toppings (like lychee jelly) and less sugary ice cream! The final product tastes like frozen yogurt with a more smooth consistency. Boy was I wrong. ICICLES completely blew me away by how insanely creamy their ice cream is. I had no idea rolled ice cream could taste that good! Similarly to the place near my college, ICICLES is a long long wait. Don't come here (or any rolled ice cream place) expecting quick lines. They make each ice cream as they are ordered, which takes time for the workers. However, I loved how you could add as many toppings as you wanted after they finished rolling your ice cream - free of charge! If you ask for toasted marshmallows, they actually pull out a blow torch to toast your marshmallow in front of you! I've already been to Let's Roll (i think) in the inner sunset in San Francisco and wasn't super impressed, it was just hard ice cream. BUT I do like this place a lot better. We are also relatively new to the east bay. When we found this place on yelp, our excitement immediately grew looking at the menu. You could also add 5 toppings for the price and so we picked lychee jelly, toasted marshmallows, banana, and oreo. The final product was simply awesome. I would say this is one of the best vegan icecreams i have had in the recent past. The mango flavor was a little lighter compared to the coconut, but then the banana took the flavor to the next level. You might find their prices a little higher, but then you won't mind it at all once you taste them.
