ikoi mochi donuts from a sweet and thoughtful friend
    Nat L.

i was fortunate to receive a box (six) of mochi donuts from a generous and thoughtful friend. despite accidentally dropping the box, (d'oh!) they held up well, and i enjoyed them at home after dinner--they were still very good. mochi are my favourite kind of donuts. while each donut was colourful, some of the flavours were indistinguishable, while others were overly sweet, but the strawberry one stood out as the best. a fusion of japanese mochi and a classic donut, mochi donuts have a crispy exterior and a uniquely chewy, bouncy texture. made with glutinous rice flour, they're lighter and less greasy than traditional donuts. shaped into a ring of connected dough balls, they're fun to tear apart and perfect for sharing. each bite delivers a satisfying contrast of crisp and chew, with a sweet glaze.

So it looks like the Gong Cha (bubble tea shop) has died off and has now reincarnated into a Japanese style bubble tea and donut shop. Looks like they kept the lid machine, as it still says Gong Cha on it. Parking is available on the side streets. The inside is modern but pretty typical. Staff are friendly and mostly helpful. Not sure what kind of baking they do in the back room, but their idea of venting (the back room got a bit smoky) was to keep the front door open for 30 minutes or so, in the middle of winter. We initially thought they were expecting a stock delivery. My friends and I were freezing and they refused to close the door. Honestly this is quite unacceptable. Knock 1 star off. As for the product, both the bubble teas and the donuts are pretty decent. I had the passionfruit yogurt with coconut jelly. They use syrup here. The mochi donuts are pretty neat (they look like bubble waffles almost), but are definitely on the pricy side. Oh well, off the list. Not a bad choice, though there are several other bubble tea shops in the vicinity.

My friends and i were craving mochi donuts before heading out to a baby shower and i googled this cute place up. The prices were pretty standard, if you get 6 you save on the tax! They package it nicely for you in a cute purple box. It seems like there's only 1 person working at a time based on when i went and service was friendly and informative. They have seating available and it's not a bad place to get cozy at if you want to just do your assignments on a ipad while having a drink and a donut! My personal fave was pistachio cheesecake and the white chocolate oreo. I'd come back and so would my friends. Location is in a spot, bunch of other restaurants nearby and it's transit friendly.

I just didn't know what to expect when it said "mochi" donut, but its texture wasn't like anything I've tried before. It was more chewy than a regular donut, but nothing compared to a mochi. Besides its unique texture, it's just yummy and addictive! Anyone who wants a donut with a fun twist should try it!

Friendly staff. Price is getting up there. Still great once in awhile. No specials on donuts, just drinks.

The mochi donuts are delicious with tons of different flavors. It doesn't feel as heavy as a regular donut which I liked. The pass fruit yogurt drink with jelly was a thirst quencher. I don't usually order these drinks but the flavor was there and the jelly added a nice texture. Some places have their jelly too soft. I also liked the thickness of the cup so it didn't bend and it was comfortable to hold. Prices a little on the higher side but worth it.

My friend gifted me a box of these yummy donuts! Compared to the traditional donuts, I prefer the mochi ones more. It is more airy and chewy and doesn't feel as heavy. I like that their glaze isn't too sweet and they always have interesting flavor. My current favorite is their lychee rose!! I think I am going through a lychee phase so I like anything with lychee flavor lately.

Cute shop with lots of seating, so it's a good place to catch up with friends. I had a regular milk tea with grass jelly - I liked their grass jelly, it's super soft. Tea flavour and sweetness were okay, nothing special and pretty standard. I got the bubble waffle with pearls, for a nice added chewy texture. Not super crispy, but there's a decent amount of filling (some bubble waffles cheap out on the batter, and the shells are practically empty if you know what I mean).

We needed a snack and Ikoi Cha was nearby, so it seemed like a good time to try them out. They are available on the Fantuan app, so we used Fantuan to order an Oreo White Chocolate mochi donut, a Purple Potato mochi donut, Honeydew Slush and a Brown Sugar Pearl Grass Jelly Latte. Mochi Donuts: The texture of the mochi donuts was more enjoyable than other mochi donuts we'd had in the past; however, there really wasn't much flavor in either one of the mochi donuts. Honeydew Slush: One of our daughter's favourite flavors wherever we go, and she was pleased as usual with it! Brown Sugar Pearl Grass Jelly Latte: Super yummy. Full of that wonderful brown sugar flavor; however, there didn't seem to be any grass jelly in it. Service: Fair Parking: Free parking on the street Location: On Tyne St. @ Kingsway, across from a Safeway supermarket.

I came in for their November black friday special, buy 6 mochi donuts ($3.50 ea) and get 2 free drinks - the Earl Grey Milk tea and Pineapple green tea Donuts The donuts were quite light tasting so its pretty easy to eat 2 at 1 sitting I tried strawberry, purple yam, oreo white chocolate, matcha, chocolate, pistachio cheesecake The only flavors that I could actually taste were matcha, and chocolate and the rest were just 'sweet' tasting Drinks I was quite happy with the taste of the drinks. The earl grey milk tea was quite smooth The pineapple tea had a good refreshing pineapple flavor

Ikoi Cha has been popping up in the Metro Vancouver area lately so we wanted to see what it was about. Currently there is a location downtown and another in Burnaby around the Renfrew-Collingwood area. We went to the downtown location and there was lots of cafe seating on the inside. The look was quite modern and neutral with woodsy and white coloured furniture. Taro + Mochi milk tea I was super excited to try this drink because it looked sooo good in the photo. Unfortunately, it was far too sweet. The milk tea was pre-made and sweetened so we weren't able to customize it in any way. Usually this is fine because we've ordered uncustomized drinks before but with the added mashed taro and mochi, it was almost too sweet to drink. For a $8 drink, I was highly disappointed. Matcha milk tea with mochi and red bean I wish I could say that this drink was better but unfortunately, it was even sweeter than the previous drink. Either they use sweetened matcha or add quite a bit of sugar syrup to it because it was far too sweet to even drink. We took our drinks to go as well so we weren't able to have them fixed in any way. The matcha milk tea had a hint of matcha flavour amongst the strong sweetness and the red bean, also having been sweetened, did not help. This drink was also $8 and that price would be fine if the drink was tasty but it was yet another disappointment. We had high hopes coming to Ikoi Cha but both left disappointed and as though we wasted our money. Their drinks are at a higher price point than other spots in Vancouver which made us expect a premium experience but it was not that at all. While I love that they offer oat milk as an option, we probably won't be inclined to return.

I have been wanting to try these mochi donuts for some time and I certainly was not disappointed! Currently for Christmas, they have a special going on that includes three mochi donuts and a drink. Despite it being close to closing, then mochi donuts were all very fresh and I would highly recommend. The drink itself was not bad and paired well with the donuts but wouldn't say it was anything special. Thought the price was well worth it especially with the Christmas special!

Tried a Taro milk tea: it wasn't good and the prices are very expensive. The service was also subpar.
