We got two pizzas and a salad. The pizzas were great. Salad with shrimp not so great--the shrimp was under cooked and the greens didn't seem very fresh. Nice ambiance and friendly wait staff. I would like to try one of the more involved entrees and the dessert menu. It looked good. read more

The food was great, the fradiavlo pizza arguably exceptional. The ambiance? Not so much. Kind of a downscale, chain-y, big (did I say big?), noisy, kids everywhere, no tablecloths version of the original (which in my perception is on Ramona in Palo Alto). In fact, it's so far off-brand for Il Fornaio that I'm surprised it's called Il Fornaio. More Bucco di Beppo with really good food not served family style. But it doesn't feel like either the Palo Alto or the Burlingame Il Fornaio locations, both of which feel more like higher-end Italian restaurants, not giant, industrial restaurants in modern, non-descript decor. To be clear, these people know how to cook and they know how to run a restaurant. The food was great and the service was excellent. But if you dropped me in the middle of this place not only would I not know that I'm in Mountain View but I'd also not know that I'm in an Il Fornaio. Since it's located in a relatively new, wannabe Santana Row very generic kind of development, it could literally be anywhere. And the restaurant decor and ambiance match that sense of new suburban nothingness. Nice, clean, modern. Just lacking soul and character. Overall, I'd come back. I'd err on the later side to avoid the high kid population and ensuing noise. read more

We ordered a salmon salad take out order after dining for lunch. It was for my husband at home working. They confirmed the order was correct and charged for a full salmon salad order. Once home there was no salmon at all, just a salad. It was a hassle to get the salmon portion refunded, really? Maybe you should have refunded the while order. Being charged full price for a salmon salad with zero salmon is ridiculous. What made it worse was having to argue for a refund on the missing protein. This should have been an automatic full refund, not a hassle. Completely unacceptable. We won't be returning. I've been to il fornaio in other locations a long time ago. Decided to try this new location in Mountain View. It's used to be a Paul Martin restaurant. Interior decor is beautiful and mid ... there's a wine rack wall as you walk in. Started with the 3 type of bruschetta -- eggplant , cheese and pesto, and roasted tomatoes. Delicious ! The toast bread was perfectly crusty. We also share the baked pear salad over greens and grapes. The salad dressing was perfect , not too tangy. I had the seafood combo... sea bass, salmon , shrimp , and scallops. Everything was perfectly grilled. The scallops had a nice crunch exterior abs tender inside. My fiancé had the pork chop. We were served by Diana, an amazing human being she was super attentive, nice and understanding and also gave my mom many options considering she is lactose intolerant as well as semi picky but she recommended some good choices and my mom loved the pasta and she was really nice with us and checked on us regularly and she was honest. Food came in quickly we didn't have to wait as much but we also came on a saturday at 3 pm might be different any other day not sure. The calamari was sooo yummy and the squid plate as well that my sister got. My wife and I love living walking distance to this Il Fornaio. It has an elegant and open ambiance, but still feels like a casual spot we can go to together after work. Food is solid, good vegetarian options, and appreciate the non alcoholic drinks (try the tiki one!). We came here by chance being in town for events. As luck would have it we found this place which used to be a steak place(can't remember the name) Lots of people on a Wednesday night at 8pm. The San Antonio center is all built up compared to when we lived here including a Hyatt Centric Hotel. We had a lively server(Tracy) who was very good and had good suggestions for dessert. My friend suggested this restaurant and I cannot be more impressed with the location and the food. Our server, Manal, suggested the appetizers, calamari which was perfect and not chewy and gnocchi gratinati, little soft pillows with a lot of flavor We ended up splitting a caesar salad before the main entree. The linguine mare chiaro was not overwhelming with the sauce so you could really taste the seafood flavors. My friend had the lasagna and offered me a bite... however when I looked over at his plate everything was gone.... Came here for date night - it is the perfect restaurant for a date, business team dinner, girls night, or birthday. Slightly upscale but still casual. I was surprised that for an Italian restaurant there weren't many specialty Italian dishes. All the dishes we ordered were average nothing stands out. Brussels sprouts was steamed vs pan seared or roasted, no flavor to the pizza and crust was under cooked. The vodka pasta was the only thing that had some flavor. My boyfriend was a chef, you never give plates with same 'protein or dish' to the same table which are so glaringly unequal. Cost $30 for mine $33 for hers. Came here with my sister and her friend for dinner on a Saturday night. I accidentally made my reservation for the night before but they accommodated us at one of their high tops with no wait. It was actually quite nice sitting up there since it was basically just a raised table. Would recommend! We ordered the bruschetta (Yelp check in gave us it for free) and the Insalata Regina. The bruschetta is not the typical version, but I really enjoyed the selection of toppings on bread provided. 5/5. The salad I gave a 2/5 because it didn't really taste like anything. Maybe there was super light dressing, but either way; it didn't taste like much. The linguini was delicious and the shrimp and other seafood was cooked very well. I came to this fine-ass establishment for my birthday and it was great! The food was magnifican. I had food comma for 2 days. A customer dropped a cloth-napkin and a waiter, with a tray of food on hand, tripped on such napkin and was able to save himself and the food from ultimate disaster. I was amazed. They have a really good happy hour. I believe it is from 3 to 6 PM and it is every single day. They offer nice cocktails for only eight dollars plus a few good food items such as pizza for only $13. We were there for a birthday, so we got the complimentary scoop of gelato to go with our slice of chocolate cake. Working backwards, I had the pasta with seafood which was tasty with shrimp, scallops, and mussels. Wish they had squid with it though. We started with a shared Caesars salad which was fine. The linguine mare pasta noodles were cooked right and the seafood was good except for the scallops they were super overcooked. We thought the portion for the linguine mare was small. The staff did ask us if we were done with our calamari which I thought was strange since there was a handful left not eaten. In particular we have loved the pear salad, however last night it was extremely disappointing. Very little pear, 2 small pieces of cheese, 3 half grapes and the lettuce was a poor mixture. We ended up stopping by for dinner and this location is beautiful, probably the nicest one we've been too. Manal was our server and she was an absolute angel.
