Not too happy with this place. They are always out of flan and never have the peanut butter cookies. I always go in and ask for these and always walk out empty handed. If you aren't going to offer the peanut butter cookies just say that. Don't always make it seem as if you're just out. The cake also increased in price to $2. Sometimes its fresh but more often than not it tastes a day old. I let the lady know since she always helps me but it hasn't changed. When I pass by I don't think I will stop. The frosting on the cakes is light and not too sweet and the strawberry filling is delish! They have a wide selection of cakes, pastries and ice cream. Their chocolate cakes are the best anywhere. The bread part is very moist and flavorful. The middle is fresh fruit, and the frosting is perfect-not super sweet, and covered in almonds. BOMB strawberry vanilla cake!!! Light, fluffy, and packed with strawberries; their strawberry vanilla cake is the best! I also love their tres leches cake (1st cake I got from here). Short Version: Nearly 50% price hike in ~1 year time and portions have become MUCH smaller than they were a year ago. Goodbye Imperial Bakery. Long Version: I first started coming here about one year ago. I ordered a cake slice for $1.25 and it was good, and I thought it was also a good deal. There's nothing phenomenal about the cakes, it's just plain cake with cheap ingredients anyone can buy at the grocery store. But it was a good deal. I started trying other items like cookies, which were also $1.25 and I thought those were also good. So I started coming here regularly. Then the price of everything changed to $1.50. I still thought it was an o.k. deal for some about-average pastry items, so I continued to come here. I began to notice that some of the popular items, like vanilla cake slice, were smaller than they used to be. Though some of the other slices, like coffee slice, were larger. Not a big deal. Then most recently I walked in and everything is now $1.75. That's nearly a 50% price increase in less than one year. That's pretty incredible. And every slice is MUCH smaller than before. They've just gone over what I'll pay for their items, and now it makes more sense to go to a cafe or something to buy a pastry for just a little more. Is $0.50 a big deal? Not really. But people like me don't make the trip for just one item usually. I like to get 2 or 3 items to make it worth the trip. What was once $3.75 a year ago is now $5.25. And that price hike in about one year time (for the same, if not smaller, product) is why Imperial Bakery now deserves a one-star review and has lost my business for good. They don't know how to treat their customers right. Apparently they just see me as money (well, now they won't see me at all). read more

Got a cake for my niece from here and it was just the best. They were helpful every step of the way and were friendly despite my constant calling with minor adjustments. The cakes are amazing! The vanilla cake with strawberry filling is like magic in your mouth. Cake and frosting are very light and fluffy. We sneak out of lab to get a few slices, and by few I mean about three per person because they're only $1.50 each! We regularly visit this bakery and the cake is always fluffy and nowhere close to dry or bland. The fruit is always fresh and they are usually open even on holidays. I've been eating cakes from Imperial since I had baby teeth in the early 80's. I'm turning 30 next week and my chocolate cake will be from Imperial! Their cake is absolutely moist and flavorful and their buttercream is light and airy and just the right amount of sweetness. I'm a westside resident but I will always make the trip to downtown and brave the sketchy neighborhood to get my favorite cake. The prices are a fraction of what you would pay at any other bakery and no other bakery comes anywhere close to matching their moist and flavorful cake. I wondered how they were even staying in business . At $2 per slice that's so affordable how can you even complain. Yes it used to be 1.25 but get real- this is the best deal. I was exploring the local business and stepped in to this bakery. I regretted immediately that I did not came in sooner. I bought Walnut Napoleon, vanilla cake with strawberries in the middle (so fresh and tasty!), and a piece of chocolate cake (moist and delicious!). The walnuts tasted very fresh and not old at all! I then went through their cake category and found they make a variety of themed-cakes here. You can find just about every animate theme here, Frozen, Little Mermaid, Despicable Me, Hello Kitty and so on. But they also take custom-made cake order, at prices lower than the other bakeries. I was ordering a custom-made cake earlier this week and had to go to Culver City to do that. None of the bakeries I talked to in K-town or China Town would take a custom-made cake order. Me and my family have ordered from Imperial Bakery for many years. We love how moist and fresh the cakes are. If you want a customized cake they can do it. Their fruit tarts are good as well.
