well if I could I would given this grocery store and food stall zero stars because the man who was taking our orders was freaking rude very rude. We were just asking a simple question wheather the food was hot or not. He shouted at us and told us we are asking stupid questions. Excuse me we are asking stupid questions? we are freaking paying for the food you are not giving us for free and asking questions is the right of every customer that is why his store is always empty whenever I walked in. You cannot take out your freaking frustration on customers. And yes lemme talk about the goat curry I have had it from the last time. The curry was stale smells really bad and was horrendous in taste but i thought to give them one second chance and guess what the man itself dont want to get good and loyal customers.M NOT GONNA BE BACK. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY BY BUYING HIS TRASH AND HORRENDOUS FOOD. We were on our way to visit friends in Covina last night at a bar that does not serve food but that allows customers to bring outside food in to the bar. So, we picked up a large take-out order at India Fresh. I cannot remember all the names of the various dishes Baloo -- the owner -- helped us choose, but I know that we got at least 10 Samosas, Lamb Biryani, Chicken Saag, Garlic Naan, and some other stuff whose names I cannot remember. While we waited for the food preparation, I sipped on an interesting tasting Indian soft drink called Desipip Jeera Masala Soda. The taste is difficult to describe, but it was a nice change from standard American sodas. The food was yummy and tasted even better washed down by some cold craft brews at The Republic Bar in Covina. If possible, call in the order in advance and ask Baloo for some eating utensil and plastic plates to go with the order. He is REALLY helpful and extremely polite. SCORE! read more

One of my favorite restaurants ever by far. The serving sizes are generous, so, for 8 dollars, you get lunch and a light dinner later on! They provide some of the most delicious and unique vegetarian options I've tried. They have excellent customer service here as well. Just really nice people who work here. My only regret is that I didn't try this place out sooner as it has been at this location for quite some time. When you order your combo, ask for yogurt and garlic naan. If you're feeling adventurous, try a desert! My bf loves the deserts here. As a side note, I've also purchased a neem face wash from this store. I took it camping with me and it absolutely removed all the dirt from my face and imparted a glow I didn't believe possible whilst enjoying the great outdoors. I've since finished the bottle. So, in addition to great food, they also sell great products. I encourage you to give it a chance. read more

I have been getting take-out orders from India Fresh for several years, and the food always is EXCELLENT. Baloo, the owner, runs a fabulous shop. Kudos to Baloo! Usually, I just get the tandoori chicken, samosas, rice, and garlic naan. However, on my last visit, the shop was out of tandoori chicken. So, I ordered the chicken curry with rice, in addition to my standard orders of garlic naan and samosas. I also picked up some Indian yogurts, an Indian cashew flavored Mithai ice cream, and some Indian juice drinks from the store. The store itself offers a wide variety of hard-to-find specialty products, including some interesting Indian pastries. I highly recommend Baloo - the owner - and India Fresh, his wonderful shop and restaurant. By the way, India Fresh also has a small indoor eating area if you prefer not to take out your dishes. Since moving to the area, India Fresh remains my favorite place to buy India dishes in the San Gabriel Valley. All the food tastes great, and the prices are very reasonable The store/restaurant has a small dining area, but I think most people like me order take--out food here. It can get very busy. So, definitely CALL in your order to give the staff time to prepare and package your food. I really enjoy both the meat and non-meat dishes here, and the spices are wonderful for dipping the naan (both regular and garlic) and samosas. I also find many specialty items in the store that I cannot easily find elsewhere. The staff also are very helpful and nice. So, be sure to tip them, especially after they prepare and package your take-out orders so efficiently and carefully. YUM! read more

I've been an Indian Food fan for a long time and since moving back to the Covina area, I had been disappointed with every traditional Indian restaurant I had tried. Then I found out about India Fresh. If you want crisp linen tablecloths and ambience, you may be disappointed. But, if you love great food at an outstanding value, this is the place to be. I end up coming here for lunch 3-4 times a week because, as a vegetarian, I can't find anything close that rivals it for freshness and variety. The owners and employees are the best - also very helpful if you want to give Indian cooking a whirl at home. The prices of everything in the store are reasonable - less than at the grocery store. My brother one day wanted some Indian food nearby so we came here. I noticed it was both a restaurant and grocery store. I thought that was unique, not only because of the combination but for their inventory when I took a look. The staff was friendly and welcoming. My brother asked if he was supposed to pay right when we had our plates. An employee said we should just enjoy our food first. Many of their customers are not Indian. They wouldn't do that thing where they'll ignore you if you're not their kind. Their food is completely vegetarian and I actually enjoyed it for a fairly reasonable price. This place is delicious!! I pass India Fresh frequently ( for the pizza next door LOL) and I always thought it was just a little market. But one day my husband and I walked in to see what it was all about and discovered they have take out in the back. We tried some samples that day and then immedietely came back later in the week for actual meals! I can't really tell you what we ordered, but we had lentils, some type of curry, a cheese masala or something like that. Both our combos came with naan (garlic) and yogurt sauce. During a recent stay in San Gabriel, we decided to drive over to India Fresh in Covina after reading so many great reviews. As others have attested, Baloo is very knowledgeable about the Indian food served here, and he politely helped us choose the correct dishes to get in our take-out order. The chicken tkka, tandoori chicken, and Somosas stood out the most, but, seriously, everything tasted great. Baloo (the owner) and his staff hook us up with GREAT Indian food every time we order here. They are very knowledgeable about the various cuisine options and give great advice. All the curries are delicious, and the Tandoori chicken is spectacular. I also recommend the samosas, which taste even better with the various dipping sauces the restaurant provides. India Fresh also has a broad selection of Indian and Eastern items that I cannot find elsewhere in the area. read more

Baloo and his staff always take great care of us whenever we order food from here. The Tandoori Chicken is excellent, as is the Lamb Biryani and the Samosas. The store also contains quite a few specialty items that are difficult to find elsewhere. As others have mentioned, I recommend CALLING in your order about 20 minutes before getting it to give the cooks and staff sufficient time to prepare the order, particularly during busy hours. read more

Don't buy anything from this place. The owner just looked at my basket and without looking up each item he created the bill and almost over charged me for items I did not purchase. He also did not give me an itemize bill. I also got a box of mangoes that he claimed were very good, but the mangos were not sweet and not the variety he said it was. Overall he was very rude. The selection is not that great, but what is there is very good. All vegetarian was key for me. Not as oily as other Indian foods I've tried. The deserts are too expensive for me to buy regularly when I'm there, but that's a good way to keep my weight down. They have a good selection of snacks in their grocery area. read more
