I think the staff is use to people only eating the buffet. We sat down for like 7 minutes prior to us flagging down a server and asking to see a menu. We ordered a white wine and were served a red that flavor could only be described as "turned". We told the server we had ordered white wine and they told us we were wrong - they only have red. The items on the buffet looked as though they had been there for hours and hours. I pray none of our group gets food poisoning. Two different chicken dishes were ordered at our table and we are pretty sure they served the same dish to both of us. I've driven past this place for years and never realized it was a diamond in the rough. I tried everything and was delighted by the spices and flavors. The service was quick and attentive. Those serving you are always looking to fill your drinks or help your figure out the new item you tried and aren't sure what it is. We are obsessed with India Oven. You cannot go wrong at this place. The tikka masala and butter chicken are some of the best I've found in the valley. The naan is AMAZINGLY delicious. And the service is sooo good. Every time we've gone we've either been given free appetizers or dessert to try. We've become fans of their chicken pakora appetizer. We had another amazing experience at India Oven tonight. The meat and vegetable dishes and desserts were all delicious and the wait service superb. Plus, my vegetarian brother was very pleased. My favorite ended up being the tofu-looking cheese squares in orange sauce. The potato balls had the best yellow curry, which was a little too spicy for me, but the mango lassi and mango and rice puddings were perfect for cooling the palate. Yum! read more

Just brought my Friday night takeout home from India Oven. This was my first time ordering from them, and I'm impressed. The portions are good and it tastes really good. I am however a little bummed that I didn't receive my Chicken Tikka Masala, but instead Aloo Gobhi. I didn't notice until I got home (20 minute drive so no use in being upset). The Aloo Gobhi is still good and we got our Paneer Tikka Masala, so we at least got a little bit of the spice we wanted. The Gulab Jamun is absolutely perfect! I have already been to India Oven many times since I moved to Arizona. My initial reaction to having their food was, "it's just OK". It started off with being average SUPER spicy food, even to me and I do enjoy a nice kick to my food but that deterred me from returning back for a while. With few Indian restaurants in the valley, I returned a few more times to give this place another try, hoping that I will change my mind and enjoy the food more but it was still just OK. The only time I kind of thought the food might actually be getting better was a few months ago when I went with my husband for dinner. I decided to only pick the dairy free options and it turned out to be a better experience so I decided to return again on Friday hoping for the best. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. So we arrived at 5:30pm for dinner on a Friday night. They open at 5:00pm so I was hoping I was gonna get fresh food having arrived at the beginning of the dinner buffet but the exact opposite happened. Everything was just warm, some of the food in the buffet was even cold! My thoughts: is this the lunch buffet leftovers?! I started with a samosa and some pakoda. The samosa dough was made perfectly, but the potato filling didn't have flavor. Pakoras were just ok too, nothing special. I then went for the main dishes. I had some plain rice and had the dhal makhani, the lamb vindaloo, chicken curry and chicken tikka masala and a bit of the chicken and veggie biryani. Everything was average, warm to cold and believe it or not, not spicy at all! What ever happened to the SUPER spicy food?! I understand that they may want to cater to the bigger population here and tone it down a little (and toning it down a little would have been great) but to get rid of the heat altogether I think is a mistake! I'm sure a lot of people come to Indian restaurants particularly to enjoy the flavors and the spice! This was what an Indian would call, "bland"! With my food, I also had the mango lassi. Normally, this would be the most delicious drink you could order at an Indian restaurant. This tasted like melted mango ice cream & it wasn't even cold. After I finished my dish, I decided not to go for seconds and just went for dessert. The first problem I had here was the bowls! I picked up one and it was sticky on the bottom, when I flipped it, it was dirty! I had to go through at least 3-4 bowls before I found a couple which were not too bad! I tried the mango custard and the kheer as well as the gulab jamun. The custard which is usually good had a bitter after taste so I decided not to eat it. The kheer had a piece of lettuce in it so I removed it and still had it; it was OK but there was no taste of cardamom which is what makes the kheer special. The gulab jamun was also ok, not warm enough though. I thought I would finish my meal with tea. It unfortunately did not have much flavor and it was was just warm. I don't like warm tea, it has to be hot for me to enjoy it so I only had a couple of sips. People may question my review because I am not Indian but I am someone who was brought up in Dubai where more than half the population is Indian and we had Indian restaurants or cafeterias at every corner, we had Indian neighbors, colleagues, friends, you name it so I am someone who grew up eating Indian food at restaurants and in people's homes from my early childhood and for over 33 years and I used to love it!!! This meal has unfortunately disappointed both myself and my husband. They get 1 star for food and 3 or more stars for service but service alone is not enough to make us return to India Oven again. read more

Went back here a few times and the food on the buffet was really good. But today, we went to the buffet and most of the food was obviously leftovers from a previous day. The naan was flat and rubbery, and most certainly not freshly baked. The chicken marsala this time had no white meat, and they added some strange spice or flavor, and it tasted bad, and I could not eat it. The fried items were soggy and not made that day. We spent $17 a plate, and walked out dissatisfied with the quality and poor preparations of the food. I've been coming here for years with my family , at least once a month, and the last time we went I was eating and started to swallow my food when I felt something hard and scratchy in my throat before It went down so I spit it out and it was a nasty ROACH . I should of know this would happen one day because the restaurant is pretty dirty but to have it actually happen was disgusting. We let the server know and he acted as if he didn't understand us. I went to the bathroom and dry heaved for 20 minutes and when I came back to the table we told them again and the server just kind of smirked. We ordered India Oven this weekend. We had the chicken korma, butter chicken, chana masala, garlic naan, onion kulcha and veggie samosas to share. Every item was delicious and I would 100% order it again. The green chutney was spicy and not for the weak of heart. The raita and ?tamarind? pairs well with every curry. We've been going to in the India Oven for years. On occasion we order from the dinner menu (always good) but most visits are for the buffet. They have a great chicken tiki masala, the lamb vindaloo is pretty good, and I really love Indian Oven's mango lassi. You can always count on seeing the same selection of dishes with something new rotated in on occasion (last visit I noticed they added a wonderful spiced chai latte to the lineup). Service is still the best, most polite, unobtrusive yet attentive service I've had at any nice restaurant (much less a buffet) and they are happy to answer questions about the food as they are proud of the product. Whether you are familiar with Indian food or a newbie just wanting to try it out, It can't overstated-This place is great and I highly recommend you give it a try. I am surprised this place is rated so highly. I made a pick up order and had a totally third grade experience. We ordered Paneer Tikka, Dal and Palak Aloo. While the Dal was just about average, the other two tasted awful. First, let's deconstruct the Paneer dish - Very hard paneer, poor quality - Sour tasting curry, not an iota close to authentic Indian Second, the aloo (potatoes) palak - Uncooked aloo, hard to chew - A uniquely bad palak, it wasn't a saag at all, it was some salad like shit Finally, what's with the Bell Peppers?? Shoving them in every dish like the owner just won a lottery. Shame on those who contributed to making this a 4.5 star rating. I was lucky enough to visit India Oven when visiting Arizona last month and my mouth still waters when thinking back to that magical night. First off, India Oven does the one thing I've always claimed all great Indian restaurants should do...OFFER A NIGHT BUFFET! Their night buffet was amazing. Meat options, vegetarian options, naan brought to your table and free chai tea and mango lassi to drink. Seriously, that's how you do a great Indian buffet. The food tasted fresh and honestly was some of the best Indian food I've had in my life. The one thing that stood out to me was that their food still had spice compared to a lot of other Indian buffets I've been to where the spice level is dumbed down to appease the more sensitive diners. I'm not saying it's hot, but there's a faint twinge of spice and that was great compared to the mildness you get from almost any other place. The service was fantastic and the staff were extremely friendly. I honestly wanted to come back to this place every night but sadly I am only one person so my input does not always get considered, but it was that good. I had other good meals while visiting AZ but when I think of my best one I immediately come back to this spot. Do yourselves a favor and try it out. You won't regret it. If you do, I will personally guarantee that I will slap you in the back of the head and ask what's wrong with you. I drove by this place and decided to give it a shot. I am an Indian food connoisseur and I was really surprised with how good the food was. I love chicken tandoori and chicken tikka masala. Both were very good but I think their tandoori was a little better and that's only because the chicken was cooked better. But the tikka masala sauce was tasty. Their garlic naan was very good and their potato dish was very good too. There were 2 things I didn't like and that was the bathroom because it had a weird smell and the faucet is one of those hard spraying faucets and water gets everywhere. The other thing was they didn't have coke zero or lemons for their iced tea. I would definitely come back here again. It was really tasty and a good value for the money. Nobody enjoyed their dinner at all -- the reason being the taste of the dishes barely even qualified as what we know to be Indian cuisine-- everything tasted mostly like tomato with none of the spices that make Indian food so desirable. Samosas were bland. Chana Masala -- "tomatoey" with large slices of onion-- not a hint of garam masala, cumin, etc. Butter chicken -- tasted mostly like vodka tomato sauce Even the naan -- how can you go wrong with naan? The food is always amazing. I go for the chicken tikka masala, and it's always on point. The waiters give amazing service always refilling your drinks. It is very traditional they don't bring you the check until you ask for it as to not rush you and your meal, very calm very beautiful atmosphere always a delight when my husband and I go the mango lassi is really amazing. You can taste that everything is made with love and care. My husband and I spend a lot of time in India and it's very familiar to us. We adore the service. read more

Let me start by saying I love Indian food but hate buffets, because they never have the good stuff on it, or they are out of the good stuff. I went with my wife because she assured me they have a regular menu to order from. It wasn't necessary to order from the menu though because the food was incredible on the buffet line. So many choices, with decent quality meat and lots of it! The spicing was just right, lot's of flavor without burning out you taste buds, and it let you try many different dishes.
