My husband and I both really enjoy the food here. The dishes are so flavorful and we are both obsessed with their cilantro sauce that is served at every table. Perfect on everything, it is one of the highlights of coming here. The saltado is my favorite dish and can be served with a variety of proteins or veggies. Prices are a bit higher at around $12 a dish, but the quality and taste of the food make it well worth it. The service is fantastic and the food really within minutes and always fresh and piping hot. But the owner of the family run business came by to apologize repeatedly and were super friendly so we dismissed this as just a bad night to come. We love this restaurant. That said, they do not package food well. On more than one occasion now, we have received our order and the lid has come undone. Last order was basically soup in a bag. I have called them multiple times around 8:15 pm and 8:30 pm and no one picked up the phone while Yelp shows they are open till 9:00 pm. Why do you put you are open while you are not???? I drove by as I was near and got there before 9:00 pm (8:50 pm to be exact) and I saw a Door Dash driver stood by their door and was struggling to get the food he drove for it and the door was locked while a gentleman was inside (and simply told driver they are closed!!!!) . Not only was the service amazing but but the owner Angela is super sweet and so nice, you can tell she puts her heat and sole into her food and service. Came here for the first time while passing by. Thought we give it a try. The restaurant was nicely decorated with cool inks decorations. The place was clean very comfortable. The servers were super friendly and nice. I ordered the Macho fish entree. It was very delicious and filling. We also ordered the halibut and shrimp ceviche but it was too overwhelming with the sour of the lime and citrus. The mama scampi we ordered was very deliciously flavored. If it's highlighted, then it means it's one of their specialties, right? I went with the Inka Special while my fiance ordered the Chicharron de Pollo. My Inka Special was a dish consisting of chicken in a yellow chili garlic sauce with fries and rice. The fries were mixed in with the sauce so it absorbed all that goodness. I didn't taste any hints of chili or spiciness, but I enjoyed the sauce a lot. The Chicharron de Pollo was an appetizer and was kind of like fried chicken. Pretty good, though I would've liked some sauce on the side to combat that dryness. I'm no expert on Peruvian food, but I liked what I had here. read more

We were going to go to a different restaurant which said they were open but when we went there they were actually closed so we went here and were pleasantly surprised. We did not know what to expect but the food is delicious and the servers are wonderful. I had a delicious lambdish and my son had a wonderful chicken dish and my daughter had a vegetarian dish. This was a wonderful find and a happy accident to have come here because the other place was closed. I highly recommend coming here. If I lived closer I would eat here all the time. I have been coming to this place for six years and I eat here at least twice a year. This is my favorite Peruvian restaurant in the area. My go-to dishes here are the Spinach Basil (Pesto)Pasta (spaghetti) with the chicken or the lightly breaded steak on top. The pesto sauce has a very nice consistency. It is not runny and adheres nicely to the spaghetti noodles. If it is not the summer time I prefer to eat outside as it gets stuffy in this place that gets packed at lunch time. The front doors are wide open so you wouldn't get any A/C effect anyway. The service is friendly but it is busy here at lunch time so if you want something you need to ask for it. The prices are fair and are consistent with the other Peruvian restaurants in the area. Four stars! read more

Parking is super easy since it's in front of a huge lot. The service is so friendly and quick! Our server helped us to navigate the menu since it was our first time and we are vegetarian. You're first served bread with their spicy green sauce and omg it's soooo tasty!!! We got the spinach and mozzarella empanadas which was really flavorful. It was served with this sour sauce which really added to the flavor. For our main dish, we got the Tallarin Saltado de Vegetales and I highly recommend sharing since it's pretty big! Finally tried this place after driving past it the past several months. Was worried when we stepped in and only 1 table was occupied, but it quickly filled to capacity and I see why. Everything we ordered was quite tasty. Several options to choose from.Prices were fair. Service was good. We can't wait to go back for a 2nd visit ***UPDATE*** Was so excited to go back to this gem for a 2nd visit. Wish we didn't. I ordered the popular Lomo Saltado and hubby got the Saltado de Pollo. The beef was very tough unlike the previous Bistek Apanada I had a few days earlier. That dish was delicious. Both our plates were close to 75% French fries. Service was still very good. We did have a disturbing "find" on this visit which leads to the drop in stars for my post. A cockroach in the hallway. I discreetly pointed it out to an employee who quickly scooped it up and . I know places get or have this issue. I just don't like to actually come across one when I'm getting ready to sit and order. I hesitated whether to stay or not. But love for the food prevailed. Being married to a Peruvian and spending a lot of time in Peru, I have high standards for Peruvian cuisine. Inka Mama's is definitely one of the better Peruvian restaurants in the southland. Wow, this place is packed at lunchtime! There are around 20 tables inside and several outside and they get full even though there are several eateries in the immediate area. That's a good sign that this place serves up some excellent food. I was impressed with the extensive menu selection and that there are lunch specials offered every weekday. I opted for a basic traditional Peruvian meal - lomo saltado - with an Inca Kola to wash it down. It doesn't get much more Peruvian than that. As I waited for my lunch I was given a bread basket and a container of aji sauce (a delicious spicy green sauce). Even though they don't dip bread into aji sauce in Peru it is done here in the U.S. at Peruvian restaurants for some reason. It certainly gives the bread a spicy kick! The lomo saltado was presented as a lunch portion; not huge but plenty for a midday meal. Every item was good (beef, french fries, onions, tomatoes with a side of rice). I thought it was done authentically although it could have used a few more fries and another tomato. Fast and friendly service from both owner and staff along with authentic Peruvian comfort food makes this place a real winner! read more

I've had lots of experience with Peruvian food so I know what it's supposed to taste like. At Inka Mama's the food is milder in taste than what I'm used to so it's not a bad place to start for people who are new to this cuisine. First off, the aji sauce is really mild.... good flavor, but mild. I like it with a super big kick and I mean a kick that would knock my socks off. The best ones so far are the green aji sauce from Mario's and the beige sauce from Nory's. My friend ordered the lomo saltado, which is usually what I order, but since he ordered that I went for the arroz con pollo. We also got some empanadas to start. I believe they were beef empanadas and were served with the citrusy tart sauce which is generally used on the ceviche. I liked the sauce, but not with the empanadas. Aji went much better with them. The lomo saltado was fine, but it isn't the best I've ever had. The taste was so-so since the meat wasn't seared as well as it could've been. The arroz con pollo just tasted weird -- sorta like Indian food instead of any arroz con pollo I've ever had before. I've never had this dish served with rice underneath and a saucy chicken concoction on top. I've always had it on the dry side kind of like a paella with the chicken cooked into the rice. I needed to put a lot of aji on this to make it a somewhat pleasurable experience. Service from the lady server was really not bad. The older gentleman was also pretty with it in refilling our waters etc. However, the younger guy was more show than anything. I asked him for a box when my food arrived and he was all smiles and yes definitely, but never came back with it. When we were done eating, I asked the lady for the box and she came back with it right away. I'm giving them 3 stars for now although it's slightly under 3 stars when compared to other Peruvian places I've eaten at. The lomo was alright, but I'm never ordering arroz con pollo from here again if I return. read more

This was one of those "hey let's check out what's in our area" type of lunches. Because guess what? I've been here for about 3 years and I have no idea what's good here. Pretty sad, eh? So I decided to meet up with a business colleague here for a lunch. From the outside, this place doesn't look like much. It's part of a strip mall/shopping center area and hidden behind the large but strangely empty Staples. Inside it's a tiny dining area but nicely decorated. The staff is fast and helpful. The menu is extensive and exhaustive. I had a hard time deciding but had no issue devouring the bread with the spicy green aji sauce. I swear I could eat that for days and be perfectly content. I finally decided on the Inka Special. It was a curry like dish of chicken, potatoes, onions, fries and rice. Pretty weird but I went with it. Sadly it lacked flavor. I had to douse it with aji sauce and then it was just perfect. I probably wouldn't order it again. Aside from the green sauce, there wasn't really anything about the place that would make me want to try it again but I might just to see if there's anything I do like. read more

When my wife and I were dating about five years ago, we used to love coming to Inka Mama's. The food was always perfect and the service was on point. Recently, for our anniversary, we decided to try and relive the good ol' days by ordering some Inka Mama's to go. Sadly, the service was quite lacking compared to years ago. I understand that they are probably short staffed, and COVID-19 really has likely taken a huge toll on the place. The server who was waiting tables ( who seemed to be the only server on staff that night ) didn't seem to be in the best mood, and was quite dismissive. When she walked out of the back with a large to-go order ( which I mistakenly thought was mine ), she put up her index finger as if to point me away from her and placed the order on another table then walked away. I guess I wasn't worth the words to explain that it wasn't my order. No matter. The food was the main draw for this place years ago. I hurried back home and my wife and I dug into our dishes. Luckily, the Aji sauce was great. Just as I remember. However, my Peruvian Paella was dominated by Cumin ( which in their defense, might be the way Peruvian Paella is supposed to be ). It was also overly salty. My wife's Bisteck Aponado was also very salty, even though I had requested no salt on my order. The Causa was still good, though. The final nail in the coffin was the pricing. I get that the pandemic has really caused some restaurateurs to need to raise prices to stay afloat but it seems that the prices at all Inka Mamas are significantly higher than I remember. Sure, that was 5 years ago... but I would say that the price I paid for my food that night was at least 20-25% more than before. That's a pretty big hike. So in a nutshell, I paid more for food that tasted worse than before and for service that wasn't nearly as good as it once was. 3 stars because I can't help but remember the good ol days. The staff is happy to help you navigate the menu. My favorite meal is Camaron Al Ajo which is shrimp in a garlic lime sauce. Also the empanadas are good. I ate at Inca Mama's Peruvian Cuisine 26676 Portola Parkway in Foothill Ranch. I stopped for lunch and the place was very busy but I got a seat right away. I have eaten Peruvian food before but never Peruvian Cuisine. Martha the owner & manager allowed me to take some photos. My server Martha was super nice and friendly, she said that the green sauce in the bottle is called Aji, is what Peruvians use as salsa. Appetizer: Empanadas; beef & chicken beef; cubed steak, onions, raisins, olive, and egg. chicken: cubed chicken, onions, raisins, olive, and egg. Entrée: Lomo Saltado De Carne; beef, cabbage, onions, bell peppers, soy and bean sauce. Served with rice. A good combination of flavors. I drank a Diet Coke with my meal. Dessert: Lucama: Peruvian ice cream. it was super duperly delicious. I thanked Martha for a wonderful meal and for allowing me to take photos. I walked outside with a big smile on my face.
