I had a time-sensitive tooth infection and didn't have a primary dentist in the Irvine area. Out of the many practices I contacted, Dr. Shah was the first to respond and was empathetic towards my situation. I was able to be seen immediately, and she diagnosed and treated my infected tooth with a root canal and a crown (as expected). This is one of the few dentist's office that had openings on Saturdays with quite a few availabilities. The office doesn't remind you about upcoming appointments, so that could improve in terms of customer service. It was a little tricky to find the place, since the building isn't labeled and it's on the second floor. Once inside, the office looked a little outdated and old. The staff was fairly nice. For the initial visit, they did x-rays (their technology is older, and they didn't give a full body protection cloak like other dental offices, only a neck protection). Then, Dr. Shah reviewed the x-rays, checked for TMJ, and signs of oral cancer and provided recommendations for fillings. Dr. Shah was very nice and seemed to be thorough and wasn't pushy about having me complete all the recommended services. The recommendation for a cavity filling was strange as I hadn't had a cavity since I was a kid, and my dental hygiene has been consistent. The office was transparent about the expected costs (a little over $100 for a routine cleaning and debridement), but I just opted for the routine cleaning this time. The cleaning ($5) was average. It included the polish, minor scaling, and flossing. It was definitely a step up from Western Dental, but wasn't as thorough as previous places I've been to. No tooth brushing or fluoride. My teeth didn't feel very clean afterwards. Overall appointment including filling out paperwork and waiting was around 1.5 hours. Average experience here. read more

I am truly disappointed in my experience at this office. I arrived for my appointment at 4:30 and was not seated until 5pm. The office is small and has about 2 chairs for patients. It took the doctor another 30 minutes to see me. I left around 6:15 by the time all the cleaning was done. The receptionist told me she would call or email me the following day with details about the cost of work needed. She never called. A week later I called and left a voicemail requesting information and to schedule next steps. Again, she never called. Instead, Melisa emailed me with a list of costs for dental work. The list was full of "needed work" that the doctor never discussed during my check up the week prior. I emailed Melisa stating I was unclear on why so many extra services were added to the estimated bill and that it appeared to be a scam for money. Over several email exchanges Melisa never directly responded to any of my questions. Instead she gave run around answers that these "aren't necessary procedures just recommendations." I told her countless times via email that I wasn't interested in any recommendations and only wanted the required work done which was fillings on 2 teeth. I asked her to confirm if the cost would equal $70 as stated on my insurance. She replied with "the cost are clearly stated in the statement I sent you." I realize the cost were there, however, they were combined with all of their "recommendations." I simply asked for clarification on the price for the 2 fillings. Needless to say Melisa was unorganized, in direct, and unable to answer why their were so many added cost to the estimate she sent over. I will never return to this office because they are unorganized, untimely and are just looking for a way to make extra money off patients. read more

When I moved to Irvine in early 2016, I dreaded the task of looking for a dentist locally. So I yelped a dentist close to me and found Dr. Shah. I was in luck because she is awesome. I had a deep cleaning done last year and she was gentle. She also helped me get rid of a small gum infection. I like her approach of managing dental health with essential treatments (like regular cleanings) without going overboard on recommending expensive treatment like implants, unless it's absolutely necessary. The staffs at this office are awesome as well and always smiling. Melissa is great as usual. She called me when there are last minute cancellation to get me in sooner. First time she called, I couldn't make it. Second time she called, I rearrange my plan and made it on time. Today, I had a regular dental cleaning done by Lucy. She is friendly,caring, fast and efficient. My mouth felt so clean and healthy. Now the wait at the office is reasonable depend on how busy they are. Last year, my wait was a little longer for a late afternoon appointments. Today, I go in at 10:30am and left at 11:15am. Dental and medical appointments always have wait time. I usually plan for a 2 hours visit to see a doctor or dentist. read more

I never to seem to feel pressured or uncomfortable when dealing while anyone at Irvine Smile Arts. I felt Dr. Shah advised me on how to better my mouth for the future and not just the quick fix. I go to this place because it's close to where I work. I've been in so many dentists around OC area but I find this place to be really friendly and understanding. That's a big thing for me because for my particular dental problems, most dentistry out there are just trying to rip me off without giving professional service. Thankfully, Dr. Pinal is very understanding of this issue. I think she understands this issue well because she comes from India where poverty is one of the common subject in the country which makes her understand that it actually costs A LOT of money to "fix" your dental problems and she is just trying to be sensitive and helpful to people who are in need of dental work. In addition to that, Dr. Pinal always gives me a suggestion of what kind of dental work I need and let me pick which dental procedure that I would like to take rather than "forcing" me to do what the book says. Whenever there's a dental procedure I need to have, she always explains the reason behind the procedure in great detail - most dentist don't want to do this because it's just more work for them; but thank God, Dr. Pinal is diligent and kind enough to let me understand the importance of the procedure and at the same time, understand and is willing to find workaround with her best effort (to buy me some time) so that I can save up some money in order to do the procedure. Her staffs are also friendly, have good sense of humor and easy-going. Overall, this place is a great place to be if you need some dental work. read more

Dr. Shah and her team are amazing! She clearly explained the issues regarding my mouth as well as her reasoning for her given treatment plan. She numbed me very well prior to treatment and I was very comfortable during the crown removal/temporary crown placement (I went for a full porcelain crown). In addition, when Dr. Shah placed the adjusted temporary crown on the treated tooth, it gave my tongue more room to sit as the crown was less bulky compared to the previous one, thus eliminating a lisp I had for an entire year due to the placement of a crown on the opposite side of my mouth. She even repaired a cavity on the tooth in front of the old crown as well as the one behind it at no additional charge as I had no build up to be removed. The crown prices-both with insurance and out of pocket-are very reasonable, and I didn't feel pressured to get anything done that I didn't want done/wasn't necessary. Dr. Shah and her assistants did a fabulous job for me today! It was relatively quick and painless, and someone was even nice enough to hold my hand while they gave me the numbing shot (which I was grateful for since that was what I was most afraid of). They did a good amount of work in about an hour and a half, and everyone was so gentle and kind with me, I will definitely be coming back if I need anything else done. The office is clean and has a pleasant atmosphere, and Dr. Shah is a wonderful dentist. I would gladly come back for any future services. read more

Picking a dentist is like not picking the BOMB! Went to a dentist that cost me $$$$!, another that was all tan and smile. Took a chance with a dentist (Dr. Shah) that is young, Indian AND competent, intelligent, knowledgeable and skilled. She has the high tech equipment and knows how to use it. I'm happy. She always looks at your mouth, not just the obvious that you came in for. NOT overselling but she works on keeping you informed of the condition of your mouth, what conservatively and preventatively needs be done but will not push you. It's your mouth! In the 5+ years that I have been returning to her I have never been rushed or felt unimportant. Her staff, Lucy and Melesa seem to hear each other through walls and work as a cohesive team. I am really happy I found Irvine Smile Arts Dentistry. From day 1 I have had nothing but great interactions at the office and on the phone with Dr. Shah's Staff. They have put together a great dental experience. I haven't seen the dentist in like 10 years so had a bunch of work that needed to be done. After my initial x-rays, I was let know of everything that needed to be done along with a list of the pricing with what would be covered and what wouldn't. Everything was upfront and I was able to decide what do first according to severity and what not and depending on my budget which I liked. I decided to do it all as I was having lots of pain and headaches. Charged it on 0% interest card and happy I did. Dr. Shah's skills are top notch. From numbing to final product I was very impressed and very very happy with the results. No more headaches and glad to know I am saving myself from even bigger dental problems down the road. I'm glad I found Dr. Shah and will continue going to see her for all of my dental work. By the way, good dental work isn't cheap so don't be complaining you aren't getting all of your dental work for 70 bucks!! read more

If you are like me, dentist visit is not what you look forward to. So you don't visit a dentist until you are either having extremely itchy gums or in pain or worse. So basically bad oral health. Dr. Pinal has been my dentist since past 6 years even before she opened her new office. She is a good listener, very methodical and very professional. Every time I visit she spends time in examining. Shows me the x-ray images on screen to make sure I understand what is she going to do. This new office looks very clean and all equipment seems new and modern. She has good support staff too. Dr. Pinal and her assistants seemed to be very careful and sensitive to the fact that there is a human attached to the other side of the teeth :-) With all the great experience it still is not my favorite hobby to visit my dentist. But I get timely reminders and after ignoring one or two I muster the courage to take the plunge again. It has helped me is to be able to keep my regular biyearly checkups and keep healthy teeth and gums. I am very satisfied and highly recommend anyone like me who is looking for a good dentist. read more

I am scared of Dentist's, so much I have not had work done in over 20 years, then I broke a tooth. Dr Shah & her assistant (Lucy, who really knows what she is doing) took so good care of me. Scheduling was no problem, they took my insurance, I told them up front how I am basically a p....when it comes to my teeth & their drill. Dr. Shah was SO gentle & caring. she did an excellent job & kept asking me if I was OK & making sure I was comfortable. I used to go to Dr. Shah for many years. But I live far away now and went to a another dentist in my new area that turned out to be a rip off and didn't even do a decent job on my filling. It was then that I realized, how good Dr. Shah is. I now, only go to her. There is this comfort level with her, she is very caring, accommodating & trustworthy. I picked Irvine Smile Arts primarily because of the location and because they are in my insurance network and am I glad that I did. I was very impressed with how professional and friendly the entire staff presented themselves. i was also amazed at the up to date xray equipment that was used, unlike old style xray machines where you had to wait while the xrays were developed these went instantly onto a computer screen. If the Tech was unhappy wtih the outcome or felt that a diferent angle was needed they could immedately take a new shot reducing the time needed to perform this often laborious task. The Tech also let me know that this form of xray far less harmful "no more than standing in the sun". The Dentist Dr. Shah was great. she took her time, gave me a complete check up and then explained in a clear and concise way what I needed immediately and what could wait until a later date. I was really astounded by her knowledge and her patience with any questions that I had. She is obviously very experienced and has kept up on the latest techniques. I had broken a tooth and was in some discomfort, Dr Shah was gentile and warned me if she was going to do anything that might cause some pain. I am happy to say that her warnings while appreciated were really not needed. I had a temporay crown put on my broken tooth and while it is never easy to have extensive dental work done, it was done in an efficient and pain free manner. At one point I told Dr Shah that what ever she was doing didn't hurt at all, she smiled and said "that's a good thing". The office staff was up to date on my insurance plan and was able to tell me exactly how much coverage I had for the procedures that I needed, I appreciated that, these days it is good to know what you need to budget. We discussed what was needed, came up with a schedule that met both my availability, my dental needs and my budget. I would recommend this office to anyone looking for excellent dental care in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. read more

I personally love Dr. Shah and her assistants. I first found this dentist office online after having a horrible experience at a previous office elsewhere in Irvine. Dr. Shah and her staff our so kind and caring. I have a tiny mouth and it is always a pain for any dentist to do my x-rays, but the staff is always very patient and gentle when doing them. I also am happy that Dr. Shah respects her patients opinions instead of trying to pressure you into doing a procedure you feel is unnecessary. I personally have a lot of teeth issues including an impacted tooth and extra teeth that a few dentists and oral surgeons have tried pressuring me to get removed (for around $1500!). I do not want to get them removed because they do not bug me and Dr. Shah fully understood my opinion and has never pressured me into doing that or any other procedure. She is the best dentist I have ever had (and I've gone thru plenty of dentists over the years), so I would highly recommend her to everyone. read more

Irvine Smile Arts was such an amazing experience, I had to create a yelp account to share my experience with all of you. The office is amazing and in such good location (right off the 5 freeway off of Culver; near denny's). The staff was very friendly and nice and they took me in right away! All of the dental equipment and technology was top notch. They have monitor screens for the doctor to show you your teeth/x-rays. Dr. Shah is an amazing doctor and very smart, she ISN'T the usual dentist who wants to clean your teeth as quickly as possible so she can go on to the next patient. She will explain to you in a way you will understand in the different ways to make your teeth healthier. Dr. Shah and the whole staff made me feel very welcome, always asked how I was doing and if i needed anything. I will definitely use Dr. Shah as my regular dentist from here on out.
