This year is their 45th year they been open and they have not skipped a beat. I ordered the carne asada steak burrito and taco so much but I never noticed that they don't serve chicken. Which is not a bad thing I just didn't realize it but I love carne asada, that's why it's hard for me to find Mexican food outside of California with flavor unless it's in the back of a grocery store. Most Mexican restaurant outside of California they may say that they are authentic but they're not really season and I'm not a hard person to please I just like my food season and I've been to so many Mexican restaurants where the food is not seasoning. You don't have to have beans and rice as a filler because most restaurants fills up the burrito with lettuce rice and beans. Mi burrito had avocados cilantro and onions tomatoes and carne asada steak, and you can see for yourself that it doesn't lack in size when it comes to the few items I have inside my burrito. I've enjoyed this place for years ever since I used to go to the park in Wilmington, if you tell anyone that you were going to Isaacs you would have a list hope things that you have to bring back for other people. Sometimes you have to take a different route because if people see you heading that way they don't want you to bring something back when we was teenagers we all had summer jobs so we how I had some money in our pockets and we spent some of it on Isaac's. This was the restaurant we spent our money on not Mickey D's not Jack n the box not Taco Bell we've had so many different choices and this was most of our favorites. Came in the morning... my first time here! And a man welcomed us with a smile and said good morning. Asking if we've ever been here before, we both replied no. Within a minute, He gave both me and my niece a sampler platter of all three meats, carne asada, the Jones, and Chile verde. He even added a side of beans and rice. The meat was super tender and juicy! Definitely cooked to perfection. Indecisive of what to choose after all the wonderful meat and flavors. He was very accommodating to our order, he told me my plentiful options. We absolutely loved their food and will definitely come back. Later to come find out that man's name was Isaac. Beings that I work in the Long Beach Harbor, you get to know where people in the area go (refinery workers, Longshoreman etc) and one of the favorites that I found years ago, is Isaac's Cafe. They have the best breakfast burritos around. I usually get the "Dispatch" burrito. Eggs, beans, rice, bacon and avocado, if I'm feeling froggy, I'll add some carne asada to it as well. They put the perfect balance of ingredients which is what I love, so many places will put way too much rice or beans or potatoes etc, but not at Isaac's, it's all just the right amount for one outstanding burrito. Every single thing I've had there over the past 20+ years has been super delicious and consistent as well. Had to try the much raved about Carne Asada Burrito: truly a meat lover's choice, it's overstuffed with strips of well cooked beef, and just a small portion of lettuce, tomato, onions, cilantro, and perfectly ripe Haas avocado. The flour tortilla is almost translucent - so much the better for all you low-carb folks. I was given samples of the pork chile verde used in the Green Burrito and the beef chile colorado used in the Red Burrito - both were flavorful and tender. The Chile Verde is spicy, but very enjoyable. As I was about to leave, Isaac offered me a sample of their rice too, but I was full - will have to come back again. They serve a very light and liquid green sauce on the side with the burritos - I can only guess it might have some mint and maybe cucumber. It was only mildly spicy, and I wanted to simply drink the stuff ! This sure would be a good addition to some rice or even scrambled eggs ( hint - take some home. ) I went on a weekday around 1:30pm and there was no wait at all to order or to be seated. Recession Fighting Tips: The Carne Asada Burrito is huge, and can easily be a meal for two. I left Issac's pissed off and starving. We arrived at 10:10 in the morning, ordered four asada burritos to go, and it took 35 minutes to get our food. 35 minutes! For burritos! What the heck do they do back there??? I left already docking stars for such slow preparation time. I don't even have to wait 35 minutes to get full dinners at fancy restaurants! That being said, the burrito is mighty good. I like how it's not filled with fillers like rice and beans. The meat is flavored very well, and it's one of the few burritos I've ever had that comes standard with avocado inside. Fabulous! I asked for no beans in my burrito and instead the receipt said easy rice and easy cheese...also I tried to order a breakfast burrito but they said breakfast ends at 11. As I sit here waiting to board my flight, I am thinking of my meal at Isaac's. Whilst it was tasty, it is by no means out of this world. Their portions are huge, and they do not lack flavor, but again it's not something that will knock you into orbit. I will give them props for not weighing down their burritos with rice and beans (who does that?), and kept it simple to carne asada, tomato, onion, cilantro, and some avocado. The tacos are big, compared to other establishments. I will return here to eat, but much like Roscoe's, I fail to see what the hype is all about. Came back to Isaac's after many years. Used to live in the area. Used to LOVE the food here. This time - very sadly disappointed. The legendary CAB (Carne Asada Burrito) the meat had no flavor or taste. The amazing spicy green sauce wasn't at all spicy. Either they had a bad day or it's no longer the Isaac's of old. Located in the heart of Wilmington this is definitely a nice little gem and worth the drive. Parking isn't the best but it's okay because they make up for it in the quality of their food. I ordered the red chili burrito with cheese. The meat was super juicy and yummy. I just wish it had more red sauce throughout the burrito. I felt it was a little over priced for one burrito which was almost $9 bucks! I understand sometimes you pay for what you get. But if you try eating here every day it will break the bank. I suggest calling your order ahead since the line can be pretty long especially around 11am. They also stop serving breakfast at 10am. Which I was pretty bummed about. LOVE this place! My favorite (and spicy) burrito is the Chile Verde followed by the Asada. When I can't decide on what to have I ask for half Chile Verde and half Asada! I used to think I could never find a great burrito place (I'm not from the area) like this. I only wish they would be open late and on Sunday but I understand people gotta rest too. One Of the best Chile Verde burritos I have had. Not from the area but I paid this place a visit since I was nearby, good Choice I made.
