This is one fancy place you must visit! The experience is amazing! Besides the ambience is beautiful, everything is arranged in detail. They really deserve 5 stars. The service is flawless and everything seems like a fairy tale! Visually, the food tastes delicious and very good. However, I must admit that I was not thrilled. Since the place is not cheap, I expected that what I ordered would leave me breathless. It didn't. It was average. The other members of the team agreed. You can read my earlier reviews - Ishnala has been the same magical place since I was first there in 1963! Near the end of their season - and they are only open Thursday through Sunday. We arrived at 4, and were told a three hour wait - there were literally dozens (at least) of people who waited hours to get in. Luckily there are three bars and big beautiful grounds. I've never seen it that crowded (have been there at least 10 times when passing through the area). But after the wait we still felt it was totally worth it! To those who complained - if not worth it for you, don't wait. And it's not really a little kids kind of place. But I will go (and have) every time I go through the Dells. read more

Let me start by saying this supper club is worth the hype! The service was like clockwork and each course brought out as soon as we finished the prior course. It's worth planning to get there early as the bar opens 30min before the restaurant so you can put in your name and enjoy a cocktail on the lake while you wait. Wait times can easily hit 2hrs by peak dinner time. I will say the Old Fashioned was good, but nothing more special than a typical WI restaurant can make. The other cocktails on the menu were a little more interesting. I got the steak and shrimp combo and everything was perfectly cooked. The steak was seared perfectly and the shrimp were golden brown. If I had more time in town and would've taken leftovers I would've had room for some desserts which looked great. read more

What a great evening tonight with old friends at the 72 year old Ishnala Supper Club in the Wisconsin Dells. It's right on the water with an incredible view. The ambience here was over the top and you felt it the minute you walked thru the door. Our server was the sweetest and wasted no time getting us our drinks soon after we sat down which were their famous Old Fashion's! They were soooo good with muddled orange and cherry... they have a sign out front to let you know how many they have served so far for the season (which runs April to October) and when we went in last night they were up to 10,382, then we added a few more! They bring some kind of a cheese spread for the table with crackers, which was delightful and we ordered the artichoke dip and the escargot which were both served with miniature loaves of bread, mmmmmm. Next came dinner with ribeyes all around and all medium rare's were cooked to perfection. We each ordered a variety of sides which were all perfectly prepared from Wedge and Caesar salads to Au Gratin potatoes and Asparagus! Dinner was finished with a piece of exquisite Peanut Butter pie and a slice of Salted Caramel cake! Yum! The owner Bob came to our table and introduced himself then talked with us for a few as well. 4.75/5 I have never dined anywhere quite like Ishnala Supper Club. The location, atmosphere, wait staff, beverages, and entrees were top notch. The only things our party of four found lacking were the cheese curds and the outdoor waiting areas. The outdoor waiting areas, including a gorgeous beach spot and a nice elevated patio, were both teeming wasps. There were so many wasps on the beach that we abandoned it for an inside bar, which thankfully had a great view. The setup of Ishnala consists of multiple levels of indoor spaces, linked via patios on the back of the building, all with a wonderful view of Mirror Lake. We were lucky, having arrived only a few minutes after the place opened, and only ended up waiting about an hour. The wait was very manageable and gave our party a chance to sample the restaurant's excellent cocktails - which were reasonably priced and very tasty. Those in my party had the red sangria, white sangria, chief Ishnala, and a "sweet" old fashioned. Everyone reported their cocktails were up to muster. Once seated, a cordial waitress came to our table and announced the nightly specials; she seemed genuinely happy to be there. We ordered cheese curds which, in retrospect, were the low point of our dining experience. There was nothing wrong with the cheese curds per se; rather, our group of 4 felt that they were comparatively unspectacular. Sometime prior to our entrees arriving an older gentleman employee came by our table ostensibly to vacuum/sweep sand off of the carpet. He commented that he could tell we came from the beach by the sand we tracked in. Our food, which ranged in cost from $35 to $50+ a plate, arrived in reasonable time and exceeded everyone's expectations. The gentleman that came around earlier to sweep up the sand came back to ask how our food was. His name tag read "Bob". Quick perusal of the Ishnala website revealed he was the owner of this and several other restaurants! I was impressed that the owner of this place not only was here on the floor, personable, but, most of all, that he took the time to sweep up sand himself! It was really quite humbling and inspiring. Additionally, all the wait staff from our server to the bus boys we passed on our way out were personable. Though we had no intentions of ordering dessert, Alex and I couldn't resist. Just like the entrees, the desserts proved to be top notch. Overall I would highly recommend Ishnala if you're looking for a unique dining experience. The food, views, and staff are all top notch. However, since no reservations are permitted choosing to dine during peak hours means a wait upwards of 3/4 hours. Ishnala's reputation precedes itself but, for our group, the only thing worth the hype was the location and ambience. Ishnala is stunningly beautiful and even with massive wait times, they have so many bars and staff that you can get a drink no problem. However, expect to wait a minimum of 1.5 hours on a good day to be seated and unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait. I opted for the scallops and they were rubbery and lacking flavor. For $60, they were some of the worst scallops I've ever had. Others said their food was just so-so but Ishnala's prices are inflated and it feels like you aren't getting bang for your buck. My recommendation is go for drinks and an app or two but grab dinner elsewhere. read more

The location of Ishnala is awesome. We have been visiting once a year for a while for our anniversary. It's a little bit of a trek for us as we aren't local, but enjoy making it a special treat. We typically will get a couple of old fashioneds. I recommend finding one of the bars and getting an app to hold you over because it's never been less than a 2 hour wait. The prime rib was one of the best I've ever had. The first time my husband got the salmon Oscar, I had food envy. The 2nd time it had a little less flavor, but still good. It's a little pricy so expect a bill over $100 with food and drinks. If you have time, make sure to visit. Enjoy a drink on mirror lake and relax. read more

I loved my experience at Ishnala! It's an adorable supper club nestled in a gorgeous state park near the Dells. We got there around 4pm and put our name in ASAP - 4 hour wait, which is similar to what we anticipated. From there we parked in the overflow lot which is about 1-1.5 miles from the restaurant. There's a lovely trail that you can take through the state park to get to the restaurant so we opted to walk. The foliage was beautiful and we explored the park for a bit before deciding to head over to the restaurant. We sat at the outdoor bar and enjoyed some delicious old fashioneds and played cards. It was a beautiful night. We finally were seated around 8pm and our server was great! We loved the salads and appetizers. Highly recommend the Shrimp Ishnala. The rest of the food was just ok which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5! I ordered my filet medium and it was definitely rare/medium rare. My boyfriend got the New York strip and he said it was decent but nothing special. Overall, I'd highly recommend visiting Ishnala as it is an awesome experience, however, I'm not dying to go back. This has been on our bucket list for years. As traditional Wisconsin supper clubs go, this is the absolute best. We drove the 2.5 hours last year only to find that the wait was almost 4 hours and it was the last day of the season. This time we were smart enough to come on Memorial Day at 7pm when all of the weekend visitors were gone. We were shown right to a table. The view...the view! Overlooking Mirror Lake with a single canoe and the tall trees at sunset. The Old Fashioneds were as good as rumor lead us to believe. The cheese spread, rolls and every course was fantastic. Our group got cheese curds, shrimp cocktail, filets, chicken Oscar and duck and all of us were totally happy. Don't miss the peanut butter pie and key lime pie for dessert. The food was very good. But the fact that they don't take reservations is a real negative. I get it, the longer you wait the more drinks and appetizers you will buy. A person at our table wanted to add something and the server kind of made her feel a little pesty, which is sad since we waited 4 hours for a table. The whole area is very unique. We were staying in the Dells for my birthday and wanted to find a nice sit down restaurant for dinner. We decided to give Ishnala a try and we were incredibly impressed with the whole experience. When we arrived we checked in with the hostess who told us the wait would be about 30-40 minutes. She gave us a buzzer and explained to us that there were a couple places we could get drinks while we waited. There was a private beach as well as plenty of seating on the "decks" around the restaurant. We headed to the Arrowhead Bar and ordered and Old Fashioned and a Tipsy Canoe. The drinks were excellent and the views of Mirror Lake from inside the bar were breathtaking, especially right at sunset. We had a couple of drinks while we waited for a table and the service at the bar was excellent. Once our buzzer alerted us that our table was ready we returned to the hostess and we're promptly seated. Our table had a beautiful view of Mirror Lake and our waitress was extremely friendly. At the start of dinner they brought out a small basket of crackers and cheese spread. We ordered a couple of appetizers before dinner as well. The Prime Spears were incredible. The asparagus and tender prime rib were a delightful flavor combination and the hollandaise dipping sauce was the perfect compliment. I wish we had ordered two of these. We also ordered the duck strips which were good but paled in comparison to the prime spears. For the main course we ordered the prime rib and the jumbo fried shrimp. Both dishes were excellent. The prime rib here was cooked perfectly and is so tasty. For dessert, I got the peanut butter cake and it was also delicious. After dinner we walked down to their private beach and sat by the lake for a few minutes which was so peaceful and relaxing. Everything about this place from the atmosphere to the food and drinks is incredible. I highly recommend a visit here if you are in the area and are looking for a nicer sit down meal. This supper club is tucked into the woods in the Dells area and we never would have thought to come here as it isn't visible from the main roads in the Dells area, but boy are we glad we did. Great food, but definitely for a date night and not with the kids. We arrived at 3pm (they open at 2:30) and there was already a 3 hour wait. This is not unexpected for a supper club, and there are no reservations accepted. The owner greeted me and engaged with my son (who is 3) while we waited in line to put our name in. Service overall was friendly, and Ishnala was crowded EVERYWHERE. They have four bars to wait at (and drink/have appetizers) as well as walking trails and a small beach. A few things I wish had done differently: 1) I didn't see a kids menu, anywhere, so I assumed there wasn't one. We loaded the kids up on cheese curds and the bread from the spinach dip while we waited, only to learn when we were seated that they did have a few options for kids. 2) Not on Ishnala - next time, we will come without kids. After the long wait, we rushed through our meal (which the server was happy to help us do) because they were tired. My son fell asleep at the table. My husband had come to Ishnala with his family when he was younger, and wanted to share the experience with me, as I am a foodie and love a good supper club. Food was very good, and portions were large. I ordered a chocolate mousse dessert to go, and 3 days later, I still have some left. Arrived at Ishnala about a half hour after it opened and were told the wait would be 1.5 hours(table of 4). The hostess was very nice and making friendly jokes as soon as we arrived. The wait was not a problem as they have 4 bars that you can frequent and then explore the beautiful grounds, located on a pond in a middle of the woods. Started with a Brandy Sweet Old fashioned, which was delicious. After 50 minutes we were told our table was ready. We started with cheese curds and Ishnala shrimp. The shrimp was very good. For entree my girlfriend and I shared the special consisting of a 24(?)oz Ribeye and lobster tail. Both were very good as well. The other two members got the Duck and Steak and Shrimp which they both enjoyed. Overall, one of the better dining experiences I can recently remember. While the wait might sound daunting(supposedly could get up to 2-3 hours) I encourage anyone who's looking for a nice date night or family night out to visit this restaurant and enjoy the experience as a whole. read more

Ishnala is so beautiful and relaxing. We went shopping then for dinner at Ishnala. I had a non menu item filet mignon in a port wine reduction with a pistachio spread on top. The fillet was so tender you could cut through with a fork. I would not say it was seared. The flavors were delicious, I had ordered medium, it arrived near rare. After warming it a bit they brought it back. Even with it being put on a few minutes and being cut in two pieces before the reheat the center of these pieces still had deep red with a good bit of blood. I recommend ordering medium well or well done with the filet if you prefer medium. My side was asparagus it was delicious no salts or butter, steamed to perfection, the woody ends removed. The garden salad was tasty, tomatoes were very fresh, house ranch was amazing, I also sampled the vinaigrette, it was also tasty. So #1, they do not take reservations, which really sucks, it depends on when you get I there, of course, and the season. But we went last night, big mistake. The parking is horrible. Once you finally found a spot, it could be a few minute walk to the place. We got there at 1530hrs. It was then a freakin 2.5 hour wait to get seated for dinner. They have 4 or 5 bar areas to get drinks or appetizers, etc, etc. After the wait, and my crew I was with had a few drinks. We finally got seated. So slightly overpriced meals, I had the 10oz prime rib and 5 fried shrimp, 48$. So in humble opinion, the service was great, the meal alright. My wife had the duck, the duck was good, but stuffing was horrible.But my first and last time there. I wanted to give it a 3, but gave it a 4 due to great wait staff. I have been wanting to come here for YEARS. Finally, a year out in advance, we planned a dinner, around my birthday, and I traveled over 700 miles to finally experience this legendary place. The cheese spread was one of the best I've ever had. My steak was perfect, and the upgrade to the prawns in shell with drawn butter and the upgrade to the wedge salad were smart choices. Never before have I had a wedge salad that was so big and well, gorgeously made. Of course, I accompanied this with an old fashioned that was superior. The wait was reasonable, and honestly, who cares about the wait because this place is gorgeous both inside and out. We walked around the grounds noting how well cared for it was and how happy we were to finally be here. I read the Ron Faiola book on supper clubs and watched more than one documentary on supper clubs and Ishnala in particular, so I was ready for the meal of a lifetime. Here is my ONLY gripe but it is a pretty serious one. Normally, I don't ever really factor in service. Bring me my food and see ya later. I'm pretty low maintenance, and tip well. However, I think I might have had the worst service of my life. The waitress constantly was upselling us on everything, interrupting our conversations, but that was OK. What was NOT OK was she CONSTANTLY hurried us through the meal, even though this was only a Wednesday night and not as busy as it could have been. We were given about 5 minutes to eat before her rushing to get us out the door started. She tried to take my plates away, multiple times, even while it was clear that I was still eating on them. This was constant through the entire meal, taking our plates away when we were NOT DONE EATING. She took away the lovely looking rolls before I even had a bite of them. I had to ask for more of that amazing cheese spread, but before I could eat three crackers with cheese on them, she whisked that away, too. We had met a friend of ours who's quite a talker, otherwise, if it had only been my sister and me, I would have given this waitress a thorough chewing out. All the hype about supper clubs is to relax and dine out and not be rushed. If I were to go back or advise someone on what to do here, I would CLEARLY ask to be seated in a section where one can finish their meal in peace. I really wished I would have written down her name, because I would mention it here. I will say that if you're going to hire people from outside Wisconsin/America, then you need to train them on what a "Supper Club" experience is supposed to be for the patrons who are expecting that kind of service. read more
