My fiancé thought it would be a good idea to order spicy chicken sandwich!? BIG mistake! Chicken is obviously frozen and you don't order chicken at a fish bar. One star because cost was outrageous $10.69 for that sandwich and a tiny portion of fries also not good. We ordered the clam chowder it was below average and I'm being nice. We were excited to come here for dinner as they don't have Ivars in our state. We were at a local hotel and brought the food to go. I got the fish and chips. Plenty of fries and they are good fries but my fish wasn't crispy, it was soggy. I got the 3 piece and it was plenty of food but much better if the crust wasn't soft. My husband got the clams and chips. Definitely felt cheated out of clams. My husband let me try a piece. He gave me a nice piece and I told him that. Then he showed me what was left (he had given me the first bite) and the rest were small pieces that made it look like it was mostly fries. I ended up giving him 1 of my fish strip. We also ordered 2 large clam chowder. Very good and still steamy hot when we tried it at the hotel. I ordered 2 orders of the mac and cheese for my mom and daughter. It was a small container not filled to the top but maybe 70% and looked like a penne pasta, no a traditional mac and cheese. Also, my daughter said the mac and cheese was a bit spicy as well. Total cost was over $40. This was our first time visiting the area and we decided to try Ivar's. Not disappointed at all. The staff is very friendly and the restroom and lobby were very clean. We had the Wild Alaska cod in panko, regular salmon fish n chips and we also had the clam chowder. Everything was delicious. Yes, this is a five-star review for a slightly-higher-than-fast-food seafood place, so context context context. I'm not trying to say this is like eating Salmon fresh from the waters of Alaska. But here's the deal: this is the Ivar's that all Ivar's should be trained at. This is the gold standard Ivar's. The place is clean. Always clean. My germophobe wife loves this place, and that is saying something. Ordering to go to take to Seahurst Park? They'll pack it up thoughtfully with everything you need. The last time we went we had a fussy two year old and weren't sure if we were going to last. When we told the cashier we'd take it for here but might need to go, she brought the meal on a tray, but with a couple bags, lid for the chowder, and sauces "just in case". Also the fish was perfectly crispy, not covered in oil. Nailed it. I generally love Ivar's as an alternative to most fast food spots. It's my favorite regional chain. I've eaten at two Ivar's in Tacoma, the ones in South Hill, Federal Way, Everett, and the Seattle location on the water. This is THE Ivar's, the best of the bunch. read more

They messed up my order, it happens ‍ I myself work in the industry so instead of insulting anyone I'll just give some constructive criticism: 1. Don't serve anything you wouldn't feed your grandmother. 2. Don't serve frozen food. 3. Don't walk past a customer standing at the register 4 times. 4. If you are an assistant manager at least have the self control not to roll your eyes at a customer. 5. Instead of being mad when you get called out and accuse your customer of being the problem, just serve quality food every time and you won't have any issues. You sell very expensive food that's usually worth it, get it together. Ok, I'm not one to typically eat or review fast food style Restaurants.... but the food is much better quality than other fried food- fast food chains. This location has undergone major renovations- the staff is always friendly and welcoming. The Alaska pollock with fries and clam chowder is my #1 go to here, but a great 2nd and 3rd would have to be the prawn and chips or the Caesar salad with grilled salmon. The food is prepared fresh per order right behind the counter where you can see into the kitchen, the cooks even welcome you and ask what your going to order before you are at the register so they can get a start on your order! After a less than enthralling Seahawk game a friend and I were driving when from out of no-where we were blindsided by hunger. Not being familiar with the City of Burien we took a populated looking exit and searched for food. Nothing was looking particularly edible as we drove by the Clown in the Cube, Chez Mac, Taco Smell, Subpar... and then we saw down a side road an Ivars. They have a big presence at Qwest Field and seafood sounded good, or at least better than options we saw up to that point. We pointed the nose of the mighty Subaru toward sweet treats from the deep blue ocean. Other refugees from Qwest Field were already their enjoying their Omega 3 vitamin packed dinners so we fell into line and perused the menu. I decided on the Baby Prawns with fries (chips, whatever...) and a Caesar salad with a cup of white chowder. Friend got the fish & chips with shrimp cocktail and white chowder. Nice thing about ordering up front was that they tell you to sit down and they bring the food to you. Not original, I know Carl's Jr does that too, but it was a nice touch at the time. Funny promotion is going on with Ivars right now, they claim their fishing boats pulled up old Ivars billboards that advertise 75-cent cups of Chowder, so they are honoring that price. I like places that have some imagination in their marketing. We were not seated long before our food was delivered by the obligatory pimple faced minimum wage earner. My salad was huge and I dug right in. Friend dove into his shrimp cocktail, which looked really large, but there was deception afoot as Ivars loads the bottom quarter of the cup with celery! I have eaten many shrimp cocktails in my day and never have I been served celery with one. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice amount of shrimp he got but I was a little disappointed in loading the bottom of the cup like that. The meal was pretty good overall, a good value for the money and other high points were very clean bathrooms and a friendly staff of people working behind the counter. The whole restaurant was clean as well with lots of seating. We don't have many Ivars in Portland were I am from, but I think I will try and search them out a little more, Ivars has a lot to offer. read more

This is the best location I've seen on Yelp but all reviews on point. Very nice staff. Fish and chips isn't about the batter. It's about the fish and this place stayed true to that. Fries were really good too and tartar sauce was amazing. This is an amazing cheap and high quality place. The grilled salmon dinner plate was amazing. My wife is picky and she loved it. Outstanding is an understatement when describing this location. Conveniently located off the left hand side, directly as your cross into Burien, this oasis of delicious fried fish greets you! Parking is easily accessible and the lot is HUGE! Today I was in a slight hurry, had both my dogs with me and summer degree weather was raging. I went ahead and ran inside (dogs had water, A/C blasting!) and felt like my car wouldn't be stolen from their lot. The woman up front was so polite, I ordered two salmon and fries and one of the Alaska cod! Ran back to the car to take the pups out to pee, then kept them roaming until I could see (the windows are so clean, and huge you can watch from the parking lot as they prepare your food!) and then put the pups back in the running car to race back in. As I ran back in, a homeless man was definitely hungry and simply wanted a meal, and I had used a gift card to purchase my food! (Thank you Ivar's!) I had almost $9.00 left on the card so I let the woman and staff inside know I had plans to give it to him. They were shocked and kept thanking me for feeding him. Now that we live in the PNW I still like to eat there when we go to Seattle. Today I veered off my regular choice and just went with a fish sandwich. I was pleased with it. This was my first time at this Ivar's location. For COVID restrictions the lady at the front told me someone will take my meal back to my car which was nice and the restaurant is clean. I give props for this location because they're open until 9pm versus the Renton closes 730pm. Some reviews say the food was great but honestly it was not what I expected to be. Disappointed...
