There was no wait for a table during peak breakfast time, but the food took a while to come out. The coffee and tea were great, reasonably priced, delicious and came out fast. An extremely charming cafe located in the heart of Clayton. The atmosphere was clean and inviting, with lots of flowers and unique decor. The menu offered a diverse menu including tardines, a new concept for me, which included many interesting toppings on perfectly toasted & fresh bread. There was also a large exciting menu of fun coffee flavors (my friend loved her Samoa latte!) We also loved the beet chips & avocado spread, would definitely recommend for your table. The staff is also super sweet, we were checked on quite often and never had an empty cup! Though the prices were higher, the freshness and quality made it a worthwhile splurge. The tartine selection was excellent, many combinations to choose from. We had the Buckingham and the York. Both were superb and the underlying sourdough bread was delicious. We ordered coffee with our breakfast and it was less stellar. Very pedestrian, tepid and a bit weak for our taste. The service lagged at the start of our visit as we waited several minutes to be greeted and have a drink order taken. As the visit continued the service improved and, as an example, out coffees were checked on and refilled promptly. I think the early glitches in service was due to a crush of customers arriving. Over all we really enjoyed the food, were less than impressed with the coffee, and the service lagged but picked up and was good. The cafe was clean and nicely appointed and just noisy enough to feel comfortable without having our conversation drowned out. We will be back. read more

I've been here twice in the past year and it has been top notch both times! The decor is unique - like a classy but somewhat eclectic tea party. The FOOD is amazing... OMG. Their main specialty is the "tartine". This is a thick toasted bread with toppings that coordinate perfectly to satisfy any craving. And who doesn't love bread?? My favorite tartine is the Pershing (midwest mozzarella, local tomatoes, walnut pesto, fresh basil, truffle glaze). First time at Ivy Cafe during Clayton Restaurant Week and I really enjoyed it, trying some things I wouldn't have normally due to the 3 course menu. The space is pretty small but super cute. I was there earlier than the others in my group but they were happy to go ahead and seat me a little earlier than my reservation. It gave me time to peruse the menu again and ask questions. When my companions arrived and we were ready to order, I went with the Avocado mash topped with pomegranate seeds, sunflower seeds, fresh herbs, and honey. Served with house-made beet chips as my first course. It was really good, so fresh and lively. I cleaned the plate. My second course was the Shrimp scampi with capers, tomatoes, and jumbo shrimp. The pasta noodles included cheese and they were nice enough to leave that off. It was delicious! I wanted to save half for lunch the following day but couldn't stop eating it, it was that good. I am not really a dessert person but it is the option as the third course. I went with caramel cheesecake. It came in a cute glass jar and was very good, the only drawback is that it was pretty thick and a little hard to eat out of the jar. The Ivy Cafe is such a cute spot in Clayton! They have put so much thought into the space, menu, and ambiance here. The cafe was cozy yet still offered a sense of elegance which fits in well with the Clayton scene. Our waitress and the entire staff were super friendly and welcoming and offered lots of insight on drink options. They also had a fabulous fall drink menu! Many of their food options including syrups and hummus are made in-house which is always a plus! Parking is typical downtown Clayton street parking- which is always a hit or miss. Normally, I'm more of a meat man, but this is something that I can eat meal after meal, and make me forget my carnal relationship with meats. The sourdough itself adds a subtle tang, and with the weight of all of the toppings, slicing into it makes the texture more so like cake than bread. May be a detriment to you, but I personally very much enjoyed it. The granola added a great texture to the overall dish. Overall, the perfect amount of sweetness for me. Quiche Lorraine: The filling itself was like a warm hug. It was so creamy, rich, and flavorful, a real treat on the tongue. The crust itself was okay (not as flaky and buttery as I want it to be), but didn't detract from the overall experience. The Delcrest: The Delcrest was really good as well. I love a good smoked salmon with cream cheese. It was like eating a smoked salmon bagel, but more sophisticated and more complex (mostly due to the subtle tang of the sourdough bread). Ivy Cafe is the kind of place where you kick back, enjoy some fantastic food, and soak in the relaxed vibe. It's all about casual deliciousness here. The place is a little tight and I think the tables are too close to each other, so if you're on the outside of the table you're basically back to back with others and in the way of staff. Love this place! 2 weekends ago we were trying to find a good brunch spot and Ivy did not disappoint! To start off, you can't really beat the vibe of this place. This says a lot! The service was excellent, I think we had 2 different servers working together. Everything was super fast, and delicious! My daughter got the French toast and it was probably the best we've ever had. She ate it every morning for 4 days straight after eating it there, it was massive. Mostly toast dishes. I assumed when I ordered my eggplant it would come on toast as well, but the eggplant was the toast! Honestly, I was not wowed with the flavors and when I tasted another dish with a tomato base, the tomatoes were incredibly acidic, so this place might not be my cup of tea food-wise. This cute spot in downtown Clayton is definitely a vibe. With candle light and French decor, this would be great for a romantic date. We arrived early on a Saturday before the Muny. Didn't have reservations but since it was early they were able to fit us in, would recommend reservations as it filled up after us. The staff was nice and helpful explaining the menu items to us. We went with two of the tartines (a mushroom and a tomato one) and frites. A tartine is essentially a slice of nice toasted bread covered with toppings (cheese, veggies, etc). The only reason for 4 stars is execution of the food. The frites had store bought pre shredded Parmesan that didn't melt at all and had no flavor, so a tad disappointing. The bread in the tartines also got soggy rather quickly, though the toppings were ample and tasty. Parking in downtown Clayton can be a challenge so plan to find a street spot. read more

It was thick, creamy, and had beautiful latte art. The mug was a little big and awkward to hold but not a dealbreaker for me. We then ordered tartines. I had the Carrswold tartine with mozzarella, peaches, pesto, and truffle glaze. My friend ordered the Merimec tartine with salmon and capers. The tartines were tastey but a little difficult to eat! The peaches on my tartine were also not very ripe & sweet. The tartines were good but not great which is why I'm giving Ivy 4 stars.
