Worst experience ever for my Father's Day Dinner! My wife ordered a plain burger. She got a cheeseburger, no bun. I order the prime rib an grilled asparagus. I received the fattiest prime rib and broccoli. My son ordered a strip, medium well. It was charcoal. 10 minutes and my wife received her burger, still no bun. Was told they had to heat it on the grill. 40 minutes later, no asparagus or Strip steak. My wife spoke to the manager and she made thing right. No charge except the drinks. Started with deviled eggs which had relish and mustard but slightly sweet which I don't care for but others did. Had grilled chicken salad which was fresh but typical. I had their special: Branzino, which is a light European bass. It was served with tail on which I didn't care for and had many bones I had to "fish" out of my mouth despite being supposedly filleted. I was not told about this when i ordered nor was i told about it when i was paying. Rip off. then when i got home there were items missing. When I called the Manager didn't seem like she had time to hear me complain about a 6% packing charge and the order was still not right. We went Friday night for a birthday dinner with 8 people in our party. We had reservations for 6:30 but most of us arrived a little early so they gave us a pager to wait. They were packed and there wasn't much room to wait without being in people's way, but we were seated right around 6:30. We started off with our waitress's recommendation for a cabernet, which turned out excellent, and some of the spinach queso dip and fried calamari for appetizers. Both were very good. I also ordered an old fashioned with Angel's Envy Rye which was one of the best old fashioned's I've ever had. I got the grilled pork tenderloin with smashed potatoes and an extra side of their mac & cheese. This was my first time getting the pork tenderloin and it was grilled perfectly and I loved the thai "bang bang" sauce. The sides were also excellent. I have also gotten the Rattlesnake Pasta and Mr. Jack's Crispy Chicken Platter during previous visits, both of which I recommend and will be sure to fill you up. Overall, the service was excellent and the food was good. My only cons are that it is very loud in there which caused us to almost have to yell across the table to hear one another, and that there is little wait room, which I would recommend making reservations anyway. read more

We ate at a bar table on Kentucky Oaks day. The restaurant is very well appointed and has a casual upscale feel. My friend likes to order specialty bourbon cocktails and the bartenders were knowledgeable and efficient. I had an excellent New York Strip that was prepared precisely to my medium rare order. My friend had the Ahi Tuna which was also perfectly prepared. Both dishes were very generous cuts. The side Caesar salad was big enough for two and well prepared. Service was very good especially considering we were sitting in the bar on one of their busiest nights of the year. It's a very small step below a premium steakhouse but an excellent menu, good service, fair prices and very good dishes make this a restaurant I'll return to more than once. read more

I haven't been here in many years but the look of the place hasn't changed, even though they rebranded under the Redlands brand. From the time we walked in, service was fast and attentive. The menu has a good variety of starters, salads, sandwiches, and specialty entrees. We started our meal with the Spinach queso (be very careful this will be hot). Chips were perfect and the queso was tasty. Highly recommend! I chose the ceaser salad because they make everything from scratch and they added anchovies upon my request. Croutons and dressing were stellar. There could be more parm cheese shavings for my taste. While the honey drizzled croissant is a nice addition but not necessary. For my entree, the fish tacos stood out to me on the menu. The red fish was nicely fried on a bed of cabbage salad, with a slice of avocado and a chipotle mayo. The tortilla shell was pretty generic but overall I enjoyed them. You get 3 of them for $15 which is reasonable. I could only eat 2 of them but I like having leftovers to take home. My husband enjoyed his Maui steak and smashed potatoes. I didn't care for the sweet marinade they used for the steak. The potatoes were freshly made. My needs were most definitely met on this visit. We ordered it as medium, however, it was slightly undercooked. The center was red rather than pink, but it's still acceptable. The Steak Maui ribeye was ordered as medium, however it's slightly overcooked to medium well, without any pink in the center. Overall, the food and service was good, but we would highly recommend them to improve on the steak grilling skill. We expect better quality when paying over $30 for steak. read more

CURBSIDE NIGHTMARE! We decided some weeks back that we would take our Valentine's DInner at a place we've always loved over the years, J Alexanders/Redwood Grill. We anticipated it would be quite busy, so we decided to do curbside pickup and enjoy it at home. Again, assuming that they would be busy on the day, I put our order in online, eight days ahead (Feb. 9) at their website, using the "ChowNow" app from their website. I prepaid the entire order, including a generous tip. Later that day, I got an email with an itemized confirmation of my order, along with confirmation of the curbside pickup date/time and acknowledgment of payment. Deed done....or so I thought. Yesterday evening, I arrived at J Alexanders/Redwood Grill at 6:00p as arranged. I took a numbered curbside p.u. slot and phoned them to let them know I was there. The young lady (F.O.H. hostess) thanked my and said that my order would be right out. Time passed and I noticed that the car next to me was having big difficulties getting their order straight. After waiting for a hlf hour, her two salads, two prime ribs and two desserts turned out to be just the two prime ribs - - forget the salads and desserts! But eventually she got something she was satisfied with and left, leaving me to note that; (a.) I had been sitting there for 40 minutes and was the lone car left in the curbside/p.u. lot and (b.) had not been contacted by any staff to let me know what was up with my order? I flagged down the curbside/p.u. server and inquired and gave her the printed out confirmation email noted above. I was , of course, assured that "they would look in to it right away...". Right..... 15 minutes later, someone pulled in next to me and a couple of minutes later, had their order brought out. As soon as the young woman gave them their food, she turned to me...."Sir, we ran out of Ahi Tuna and "they" tried to call you, but they had a wrong number......so would you like a piece of carrot cake?" really?...... seriously?.... I was fuming..... "You don't have half of my order? You've made a half-asked effort to let me know? And, as I put my order in *EIGHT DAYS* in advance, just WHEN did you realize that you would not have what was required to fill my order? An item that you had already CHARGED me for?".... And *WHEN* were you going to let me know all of this - - or just let me sit out there in the cold in your parking lot? And now you're offering me a piece of carrot cake in recompense?" I hurriedly backed out of the slot and headed for home. My wife and I wound up doing the "Christmas Story "emergency meal thing - - a hot meal at a trusted, nearby Chinese. And as for J Alexanders/Redwood Grill? Hard to say because the food is *soooo* good there! But their version of the whole curbside/pickup thing is a disaster and amateurish.... My recommendation? Do "dine-in" only with them......at least you can get up and walk out, if the wheels come off. ((and there's a pretty good Chinese, nearby!!)) read more
