Long review but main point: good food that is slightly overpriced for the level of service and atmosphere. I've been here twice now and both visits were relatively similar. The food and drinks are great but the service holds me back from giving 5 stars. My husband and I had a reservation and we were seated exactly at our reservation time. Our waiter quickly came over to take our drink orders. Oddly, they don't have their cocktail list on the table and he had to go to the bar to grab a cocktail menu for us. After ordering drinks, it did take a while for the drinks to arrive. The only other thing about this restaurant that doesn't thrill me is the noise. It must be the way the sound travels in there due to the high wood planked ceilings, but it is louder than I'd like for a romantic date night spot. Anyway, the food...delicious! I got the steak Maui with smashed potatoes and a Caesar salad. The marinade for the steak was loaded with flavor and every bite was juicy and delectable. I will say that I asked for medium well and it was more well done than I would have preferred, but this did not ruin my experience! The smashed potatoes, so good! My husband got the ahi tuna filet and it was amazing! The flavors of his dish topped with the wasabi sauce was just too tasty! As for drinks, I started with the pear martini. It's strong and has a unique pear/ginger mixture taste that I really enjoyed. I then switched to a glass of the lucky star Pinot noir, which I really enjoyed and would recommend. While the service wasn't bad, it also wasn't very good. Drinks took a while. There also isn't any bread to munch on while you wait for your meal. Once our food came out, our waiter never came by to see how everything was and that is a pet peeve of mine. I ordered steak and had I really had an issue with it, I would have had to hunt my waiter down. Overall, the food is good but it's a pricey restaurant that paints itself as being upscale, yet it is loud like a sports bar and the level of service does not match the price tag spent on your meal. It's decent for the price. Went there for someone's birthday, it was 109 with the tip for: an appetizer, NY strip steak, and extra side.

Horrible! This was always our go to place for prime rib, steaks, and apps. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! Disgusting. The prime rib was sooooo thick and overcooked it was unbelievable. My daughter's steak was overcooked, and the potatoes were horrible. Damn shame. We will never return again. My husband was kind enough to tip the waitress well which I told him not to because she was not Attentive. Damn shame. read more

We have been to this restaurant twice and both times the food was amazing. The only thing I don't like is the feeling of being rushed and I'll say why, both times my husband and I came to this location we ordered appetizers and then entrees, our appetizers came out within 1 minute of ordering and then about 10 minutes later our entree's are coming out and we are still eating our apps. The person running the food literally drops the food in front of you and walks off. Last night was our wedding anniversary and again that same feeling of being rushed as we were eating our dessert, the server, tamiko dropped the check and didn't even ask how it was or if we needed anything else, very disappointed. read more

It's always a good meal and good service at this J Alexander's. It's hard to go wrong here. Whether you order a salad, prime rib, filet mignon, hamburger or a chicken sandwich, the food is always seasoned, cooked and presented right. On my latest visit I ordered the French dip sandwich with mac & cheese for my side. I was craving prime rib (and theirs is so fantastic), but didn't want a $35 entree tonight. So, I "settled" for the sandwich. At $21 it's not cheap, but it really is so good. The shaved prime rib was perfectly seasoned, and oh so tender. I like that they light toast the inside of the French baguette it comes on so that it doesn't get soggy and can hold up to any dipping you may do into their side of flavorful au jus. Add a little of their horseradish sauce too and you won't be sorry. This is a great sandwich. I've always loved their untraditional mac & cheese side dish. The mix of cheeses, onion and I don't know what else topped by breadcrumbs is just yummy. It's worth $5 as an additional side if you want the delicious smashed potatoes, vegetables, fries or something else for your regular side. Overall, J Alexander's is a consistent winner of a restaurant. It's one of the priciest restaurants in Plantation, but it's good. read more

I love this place! I can't count how many times i come to eat at this place. We made reservations for 9:30 and actually showed up much earlier. Luckily we were able to get seated right away. I definitely recommend making a reservation because this place tends to be quite busy on a weekend night. Our waiter was nice and attentive. He even made a good suggestion on my cocktail: The Sparkling Rose. If you like a sweet drink, try it. They had a featured menu with temporary items. We decided on the emerald shrimp. It was a generous amount of perfectly fried shrimp with a side of cocktail sauce and I can't remember the name of the other sauce but it reminded me of a yum yum sauce. Very delicious. I always order my usual which is the steak Maui. Cooked to perfection and paired with a large scoop of mashed potatoes. My date ordered the grilled snapper that was on their featured menu. J Alexander's is a no-thrill, lackluster steakhouse from the Seinfeld era. It's safe place to go for business lunch or dinner when your goal is not to wow you guests with hospitality (the close the deal meal) but rather compliant with business formality and professional curtesy. In another words: thanks for flying in, we will call you...but probably never. There is nothing wrong with the place but there is also no magic to it either. Food is decently prepared, yet no signature plates that will imprint onto your memory. The service is friendly and wait staff is willing to customize dishes to your liking. The wine list is limited and you won't find a bottle that has a score above 80 points. For similar price point, I would rather go to establishments such as Houston's. read more

I decided to make reservations for my boyfriends birthday dinner after being recommended this restaurant by two others. They don't do anything special for birthdays besides dessert with a candle but the will accommodate you if you need to bring in a cake etc. We were stunned by the ambiance and greeted very well by the hostess and other workers. Everyone had a great attitude and vibe. We ordered fish tacos to start and they were amazing. Not to mention they arrived 10 min after we ordered them. Following The steaks we ordered were no longer than 15-20 min accompanied by a bottle of wine. We had a ribeye, filet and ny strip. Went here for my boyfriend's birthday. He said he wanted steak, so I looked for a place that had good reviews and pictures. The steak was cooked perfectly and was so thick. The sauce that the crab cake came with was delicious. We had Gina as our server and she was just lovely. She was so nice and came to our table often to see if we needed anything. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else. She brought out a chocolate cake for my boyfriend's birthday and it was a huge portion (which is a good thing!!). I had the filet and my husband had the prime rib both were so good. We have recently returned and tried the French dip which is basically just a prime rib sandwich. I've been here numerous times and have had a number of different menu items but have never written a review. My favorites are the Cypress salad (the croutons are made from cornbread & they are awesome), mac n cheese, and the filet. The carrot cake is also very good and I'm not even a carrot cake fan. Service is always good. This is a nice place for a date bc, although it's not cheap, it's not crazy expensive either. And they keep the lighting very dim inside (which I personally love, so it has an intimate feel. You can't go wrong with J Alexander's. read more

J Alexander's never disappoints! I have always had great food anytime I have dined here. My only wish is that they had happy hour and some more appetizer options. For appetizers I love the grilled artichokes. They have great big salads and the chicken soup is so creamy and delicious. As for steak I love the prime rib with the side of Mac and cheese.. mmm !! I also have tried the crab cakes which weren't bad, they had a little kick to them.
