The best dish was the chocolate cake dessert and ice cream with hot fudge. Ordered the New York strip with smashed potatoes. Steak was cooked perfectly, potatoes were not good. Very starchy and honestly not good. Other dish was seared ahi with an orzo salad and a half of a tomato. The seared ahi came with a sweet sauce, it was good, but I believe yardhouse has better seared ahi. The orzo salad was great! It had about 11 or more ingredients ranging from slivered almonds, to cranberries and currants. Very unique and delicious, probably the highlight of both dishes. The tomato, was underwhelming, they could have seared it or something. It was just cold with pepper and basil shreds. I had to salt it myself. I visited J Alexander last night to celebrate Christmas with my closest friends. I made a reservation and the hostess was very nice and seated me right away while I waited for the rest of my party to arrive. Our waiter was very attentive very nice as well, I didn't get his name but he was super nice. I had the pan seared salmon with broccoli and spaghetti squash. My only complaint was when the food came out my broccoli and spaghetti squash was cold. I let the waiter know and he said it's been happening all night. My broccoli was replaced with steaming hot broccoli so he was able to fix the issue, with that being said, the salmon was very very good. Nice crispy crust flaky and juicy on the inside with fresh squeeze lemon The spaghetti squash was not all that good it lacked seasoning, I had to add my own salt and pepper, which didn't really help. I wouldn't order that again. My cousin had the featured item which was the seafood pasta. She said it was okay but lacked flavor and the noodles were slightly overcooked. My other friend had the barbecue ribs with the fries and beans. She said everything was really good and the barbecue ribs were falling off the bone and tender. First time at Redlands Grill! Made reservations via RESY and it was fast and easy for lunch. Restaurant design was modern with an upscale look. We were seated promptly and our waitress quickly took drink orders. We had fried artichokes as a shared appetizer, my wife the Fish Taco daily special and I ordered the Nashville Chicken sandwich. The fried artichokes (4) were very nicely done, with an accompanying roulade that was delicious. The Nashville Chicken Sandwich seemed like a preformed patty, which was a turn-off and rather dry. Shoe string fries were hot and fresh. The Fish Tacos (3) were tasteless and the heated tortillas had a cardboard texture. Sad for a 'special' of the day. Dessert was their warmed Carrot Cake with gooey cream cheese frosting. Huge piece of flat cake that was very good. French Press coffee was excellent and plentiful. I have been coming to Redlands since it grand opened. I can tell their service level continues to decline. Very unfortunate! The food is really good but some of their staff have shown either no experience or no desire to work. Today I came here with my wife and my daughter. My daughter just came back home from her freshman year in college and has never been here. We were excited to show her this place. The waiter for our table was so unfriendly and just seemed no Interest to work. He brought us one round of drinks and since then he just disappeared! It is Monday night and was not busy at all. I ordered a Cowboy ribeye and a glass of red. After I finished my glass and half way into the steak, I couldn't find him. So I had to walk to the kitchen and looked for him. Finally the Manager Daniel came by and took care of the situation. So, that is the reason I give it 1 star today. If you ever wondered what a steak house version of Macaroni Grill would be like, this is it. Absolutely nothing "fine dining" about this place. Waitress was an untrained, uninterested high school kid. Did not acknowledge the birthday on our reservation. Seemed miserable to be there. Ambiance included listening to the cooks loudly hoot and holler like a bunch of rowdy teenagers in the open kitchen. The "aged" ribeye was absolute garbage. Tasted like a select grade and was overcooked badly. Had zero "eye" on the cut. Not a single dish was high quality and the cocktails were loaded with sugar. I like to give my hype to the underdogs. The small businesses that bet everything on their business and head into it full force. Yesterday though, I was in the mood for a juicy steak and Redland's never disappoints me. I went around lunchtime and it was moderately busy, but we were seated immediately. I ordered the steak rolls, a wedge salad, a 22 oz bone in ribeye, a side of not your ordinary Mac & cheese, and the loaded bake potato came standard with the meal. The steak rolls were so hot and juicy and a large portion for an appetizer! The wedge salad was okay. It would have been better with some diced red onions and less dressing. The steak and the sides were plenty to share between two people. Even after splitting it, I had left overs. I Mac&Cheese is perfect. Like legitimately 100% perfect! Dropped in for lunch while finishing up our Christmas shopping. Our server Santiago was delightful, knowledgeable, and provided fantastic service. The food arrived promptly and tasted as delicious as expected. I ordered the chili as the weather for perfect for a hearty soup, it was easily top 5 chili I've ever had and I'm a huge chili fan. It had good spice that provided heat but enhanced the flavor. My husband had the tuna stack and the seasonal veggies (spaghetti squash with marinara). He thoroughly enjoyed both, the flavor of the tuna was fresh and bright and he said it paired perfectly with the sweetness of the crab salad. I ordered the brasserrie chicken and subbed the Mac n cheese for the broccoli. The chicken and mac could have been a meal on its own. The chicken was well seasoned, perfectly crispy, but not greasy at all. I loved the non tradition cheeses used in the mac, the sweet and salty Gruyère paired perfectly with the Parmesan. I thoroughly enjoyed the food at Redlands Grill. This is a new restaurant and makes a great addition to the Fiesta Texas/RIM area. Redlands Grill, is a concept by J. Alexander's, it has both seafood and steaks. The atmosphere was very fresh and elegant. It matches with the aesthetics in the surrounding area. I can't say anything bad about my meal. I had a steak and loaded potato. My favorite part was the desserts, I was very impressed with the carrot cake and cheesecake. My wife and I took our boys and the wives for a celebration dinner Monday night, we've eaten here since it was Redland Grill, dinner this evening was way off, all food was cold, "smashed potato's" had the texture of clay and were cold, prime rib was room temp as well. Nobody at our table complained because they felt guilty because we were paying the bill $350.00 plus... I called the manager once we all agreed that the meal was below par, Eric was concerned and apologized and offered to make it right which we appreciated, but we were more concerned that we may be loosing one of our favorite restaurants to low quality food prep. Made reservations for my wife and my 6 yr old granddaughter. Got seated promptly and greeted my our waiter K.O. Very polite and attentive, well spoken young man. He was patient in explaining the menu and all our options. They do not have a kids menu, however they have kid options and gave our granddaughter her options for a meal. My wife ordered a filet mignon with loaded baked potato, cauliflower. Cocktail consist of a Cucumber martini. She said the martini was refreshing and very delicious. I order the Carolina crab cakes with Mac & Cheese, both were outstanding. Crab cakes were big lump real crab, not imitation. Had a couple Old fashions to wash it down. Drinks were spot on. Granddaughter had (Guess? CHICKEN STRIPS, FRIES with Ranch dressing. She was tired and getting a little hangey. K.O. brought her meal out right away with out us asking. The salad was fresh and crisp, I ordered balsamic vinaigrette dressing, I got a vessel of oil and a vessel of balsamic - fine. My filet medallions were more medium, not medium rare. My husbands prime rib was very average. The service was poor. I ordered a glass of wine. The other two people at our table had water, which they drank every drop and never offered a refill. I passed around my water I hadn't touched. We couldnt flag down a waiter for a refill. We were offered desert, which we declined. The quickest service of the night was the delivery of the check. This was my second attempt here, likely wont return. I'll go to Perry's or Bobs if I'm in the mood to drop $250+ for a steak. read more

When the restaurant was called Redlands the food was good, but they were out of some of the items. I've been since the name changed to J Alexander's and the food was subpar. My food did not arrive but the rest of the parties food, and when I did get it, it was called another member of my parties. Food was also cold. When I asked the waiter, if he could bring me another, he said it would be another hour. I ordered the salmon and a baked potato. The food was cold, and did not taste good. I would not recommend this place as a top restaurant to visit in San Antonio. I have had two bad experiences at this restaurant. My first time at the La Cantera location, which is/was Redlands Grill? Confusing because outdoor sign says J. Alexander's but there are still things inside the restaurant that say Redlands. The inside was large and very clean. Service was very fast. Ordered couple of cocktails that were very good. The Thai chicken salad was excellent and would get it again. For my entree I ordered the filet mignon and baked potato. The steak had really good flavor and was cooked perfectly to medium rare. The only thing holding it back was the meat was a little tough. Generally one of our favorite restaurants (Redlands/Alexanders La Cantera) but I was very surprised to see a dog in the dining room - the desk hostess said service dogs were allowed but I believe a brush up on definition is needed. A service dog is not a miniature poodle seated on lap with no vest. This was my first time dining at this location of J. Alexander's and was not disappointed! J. Alexander's has always had an impressive menu, providing many options for all palettes! My Mom and I stopped in for a late lunch after leaving La Cantera and were immediately seated in a booth by the window. The views at this location are great because it sits up on a hill almost parallel to the Eilan Hotel and is so much brighter and open than the Quarry location. We started with the Mexico City Spinach con Queso and Alex's Salad, which were both absolutely delicious! We then shared the Brasserie Chicken and when I say it was large enough for two people, I am not kidding! We each got 2 small cutlets of chicken with a huge scoop of their smashed potatoes, it was more than enough to feed us both and still take some leftover!
