Surprise surprise. My friend wanted to meet up here for lunch. I really thought this spot was out of business. On a Wednesday afternoon I figured the place would be empty. To my surprise the parking lot is packed and there's nowhere to park. No signs or anything indicating you can park around the back as I found out later so I ended up parking in the lot next door. They only have a few chicken items on the menu. One chicken sandwich and one roasted chicken dinner. I got the chicken sandwich which is the Hyde park. This is the same exact sandwich I've gotten every time I've ever been here which is why I really haven't come back because there's not a lot of selection for me. The other reason is they got rid of the croissants on the menu LOL. The service was fast and friendly and there was about a medium sized crowd inside despite the parking lot being full. They have kind of a dark semi romantic atmosphere I guess they're going for. The chicken sandwich was nice and tender. I'm not a fan of the shoe string fries because they remind me of Steak and Shake and at this price point I think they should have some good fries here. They actually had a few craft beers on tap but I thought the cocktail prices were a little extreme at 15 plus. My girl got the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and the potatoes were ice cold so they lose a star for that. Other than that I have no complaints except that the pricing for lunch. $20 for a chicken sandwich is a bit much to me.

I recently visited J Alexanders for my birthday while visiting my mom in the area. I was looking for a nice place to try and I was not disappointed. The food and wine options were amazing! I choose the filet and loaded baked potato. It was delicious and so flavorful! I tried some of my wife's prime rib. It was also amazing! You also must get the deviled eggs as they were delicious and flavorful. As it was my birthday they provided a large piece of carrot cake. It was delicious.

From out of state, but in Toledo for the afternoon. Knew nothing about Alexander's but explored the online menu and decided to give it a go. Walking in the 3 young female hostesses were chatting together and said it would be about 10 minutes. After 10, we approached host desk to inquire and one of three a bit sharply said "10 minutes " (there were empty tables, btw). We said "Oh! That's what we were told when we arrived!" The same person rolled her eyes and turned to make a somewhat sarcastic comment to her friend. We sat down and waited quietly. Had we let that deter us, which we considered, we would have missed an otherwise par excellence dining experience! Our server, Ava (pictured, with her permission), was fantastic! Knew the menu, acted as though it was a pleasure to serve us, answered questions, checked back, all with a joyful smile! Shared flame grilled artichoke app...superb! Hubs had a pre dinner IPA, and I had a pre dinner lightly dirty, really chilled martini w/bleu cheese olives. The great surprise was that instead of discarding what's left in the shaker, they pour it into a separate chilled glass set into a cup of icy water (pictured) to keep it cold until you replenish your martini glass. Hubby (also pictured bc he's the best dinner partner) had the baby back ribs. Ribs, country slaw, and perfectly roasted baked potato...He loved it all! I had the filet, which had their signature herb butter melting atop, and because I didn't want anything else that'd be heavy, chose the special sliced tomatoes (not cooked) and seasoned with skill. Perfect summer accompaniment! Great ambiance once we got past the lackluster hostesses. We will def return when in the Toledo area...might even make a special trip!

I went back and had just the smashed potatoes. There were chunks of undercooked potatoes in them. I understand chunky mashed potatoes, but I do not believe that means undercooked. The staff were nice and the bar top was clean so that's a plus.

I recently went to JA's to celebrate a birthday and an engagement. We were a party of four and had made a reservation a week beforehand for a Saturday evening. Our table was ready on time. While JA's is a chain restaurant, it's an upscale chain with a sophisticated ambiance that can generally be expected to deliver good quality food and service. I've been here many times over the years and have had some varying experiences. Fortunately, I can report that everything was five stars for my most recent visit. Our server, MJ, exceeded all expectations for service. He was extremely personable as he interacted with us and took an interest in the occasions we were celebrating. He also had a great sense of humor. When he was busy, other servers were attentive to us in a team like and friendly manner. Service was outstanding. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Rattlesnake Pasta with chicken and shrimp. It was absolutely delicious! (See picture posted below.) Another person in our party ordered the same entree and also loved it. Since I had inquired about spiciness of the southwestern seasonings in the dish, MJ offered to bring seasoning on the side so I could add as much or as little as I wanted. The two others in our group ordered a steak entree and an ahi tuna dish. No complaints from either of them. (Pictures also posted.) After dinner, MJ served four plates so we could all taste the birthday girl's scrumptious carrot cake that is complimentary for all birthdays. It's beyond decadent and worth every calorie. We lingered talking after dinner and dessert and never felt pressured to leave after approximately three hours. Our experience was definitely amazing in every way due to the excellent service and food, in addition to enjoying the festivity of our celebration. Highly recommend this restaurant!

This was our first time eating here. And now we are mad at ourselves for not going sooner. Stephanie was our waitress and she was phenomenal. We actually split a couple entrees. She was amazing putting our entrées on separate plates and bringing enough dressings out for our salads. She then recommended the carrot cake. Did not get a picture of it, but it was amazing. The frosting...chefs kiss! Atmosphere was very warm and cozy. Not noisy at all. This will probably be one of our very favorite places that we will put in our rotation of dining out . Highly recommend!!!

I keep falling in love with this place. Over and over again. I go years in between visits and it manages to maintain the quality of service and food. The atmosphere is very chill with low lighting and comfortable seats. The timing of food delivery and drink delivery is perfect.

We ordered the soup and salad as I always do. They are both really good and just the right amount of food. The staff were great even though we walked in the door 30 minutes before closing time. Everything was great.

    RATTLESNAKE PASTA

Always great food! Tried the Hong Kong shrimp for the first time & it was delicious. A little spice to it but not bad. They also have the best ranch. Queso & pasta are staples we always order.

Excellent food, excellent staff, excellent service. Going to a chain restaurant in another state can be a gamble. Not here, parking lot was full so I expected a wait. I did not have to wait. The service was Johnny on the spot with the table service. I didn't sit down to a half wiped table with dirty dish water. My server was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer any question put to her. My steak was cooked perfect medium. Mac and cheese was also delicious. Next time I'm in Ohio, I won't hesitate to return.

This was my first time back to J. Alexander's in over 20 years after returning to Toledo and I loved every moment! The waitress was extremely nice, helpful, and accommodating. The drinks were delicious. The calamari was very good. The steak brazzo was flavor-overload and I loved it! My daughter loved her seafood Alfredo, and also the key lime pie was really good. I had absolutely no complaints-perfecto!

    Lemon drop. Sooo good!

Tonight the food was so good, fillet cooked perfectly, Mac and cheese so amazing, drinks were perfect. And to top it off our waitress Brooke was top notch! She was friendly, helpful and attentive. It was a perfect meal.

We started with the whipped feta, lobster bites, and the garlic bread. The whipped feta is an absolute must have. I will be dreaming about this until I have it again. They give you toasted ciabatta and cucumbers on the side to dip. Even with the cucumbers, this dip is absolutely amazing. Very refreshing. We went with the miso glazed Chilean Sea bass & the chicken parm. My husband really enjoyed his Sea bass and I absolutely loved my chicken Parmesan. It had the best spaghetti I've ever had in my entire life. The sauce had a tiny bit of heat that really added to the flavor. I loved my meal!

We went again on Saturday. WOW!…read more Started with a Martini for my dining partner and iced tea for me. Both were great. The waiter (Josh, a five-star waiter if ever there was one) really knows how to take care of his customers. He really knows the menu, can explain the dishes along with their components and what makes them unique and paces each course perfectly. He even asked if we were BOTH done before any dishes were removed from the table. Nothing looks worse than one person still eating while the rest of the table has no plates in front of them. We started with the roasted carrot salad. The carrots were perfectly roasted and chilled with and amazing tahini "paste" and radicchio, perfectly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. OUTSTANDING!!! Seriously, this could have been my entire meal! The tahini paste is great, and I made it once while making a tahini dressing for roasted Brussels sprouts. Tahini naturally gets thick (paste like) when liquid is added. To make the paste, just stop adding liquid to it and stop mixing until it gets smooth again. Seriously, delicious. We both ordered the chicken schnitzel for our entrees. It comes with a really nice side salad consisting of mixed greens, dressed again with a very mild vinaigrette. My only quibble (and it's a really small one) is I would have liked the schnitzel to be a bit thinner. That said, it was perfectly cooked, not at all dry and the thickness is up to the creator of the dish. I don't think there's a "standard" for this (ha, ha - get it!). Great breading and very tasty. The dessert... Again, had to go with the sticky toffee pudding! If this is on the menu, there's no way I'm not going to order it. GOD, it's just a perfect ending to a great meal, well, that along with a pot of French Press coffee. All in all, the meal came to $108.00 excluding the tip. Expensive, but WORTH EVERY PENNY! I spent that much a few weeks ago (maybe more) on a really awful meal/experience at a different place. You'll have to read my old reviews to figure that one out! Anyway, this place treats their employees like they actually appreciate them. They took them on a cruise! Of all the restaurants I used to work at, the best thing I ever received was a shift meal or maybe a cold beer because I was still at the place cooking apps at 1:00 in the morning and the manager wanted to go home but felt bad because I couldn't leave. Thanks for the glass of Miller Lite draft, Mr. Chi-Chi's manager guy! Everyone in the place, from the servers to the hostesses, to the bus folks and the floor manager had smiles and a sense of graciousness and appreciation to each and every customer. Try to find that at any other restaurant in Toledo. The food is top notch, made with very unique recipes and techniques you're not going to find anywhere else. The dining room and restrooms (at least the men's) are clean. I never had to ask for a refill on my iced tea or water. New silverware was brought before each course was served. The old plates were removed from the table after the staff asked if it was OK to do so. Proper training in procedure and etiquette is obvious. Again, just a great meal in every way - 10 out of 10! Can't wait to go back.

The waitress brought them out a few minutes later but they were a bit overdone. My real issue came with paying the bill. I used the Ziosk to pay by credit card and noticed the suggested tips by percentage were grossly off in calculation by several dollars. When I alerted a manager to the issue, she said it was a third party device out of their control. I began snapping pictures of the miscalculations and then she told me "Pictures aren't necessary." Go to their website and simply click away on you preferences. It's really easy and worth the expended effort. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We arrived and were quickly seated. Water was brought to the table, but without ice. I asked for ice and pretty quickly received some. I would suggest always serving ice water! Warm tap water isn't very palatable to most folks. First impressions of the dining room... So, it's a fairly small room without carpet. No tablecloths or individual table lamps (this doesn't bother me, but some may find this type of dining without such refinements unacceptable). I believe in keeping costs down. Take the savings and use them for buying better ingredients. Oh, a plate of bread with an absolutely delicious compound butter was served when the water was served (a little amuse-bouche). The butter was a lemon, garlic, basil combination that was outstanding!!! Everyone loved it. We split a bottle of wine (no cocktails, sorry). That was fine. They have a nice, simple wine and beer menu. We also ordered Appetizers. If you try any of the apps, try the bang bang shrimp! Better than anything you'll get at the Japanese Steakhouse. Seriously, next time I go back, I'll probably order this for my entrée along with the Caesar salad, and more of that delicious bread! Our other app was the calamari. It was served with marinara, and perfectly cooked. Both great appetizer choices. For our entrées... I ordered the halibut, and what an amazing job chef Marcel did with it! It was sauteed with some small diced vegetables and capers, served over polenta. Maybe a bit too done, but that's just me. I like my fish to be more on the rare side. I'm not faulting anyone for this because I never specified. It was still a great, creative and delicious meal. Two of my dining partners ordered the chicken paillard. Unfortunately, they said these were overcooked and too dry to really enjoy. They both looked delicious though. Another person ordered the salmon and said it was delicious. Our 5th person ordered the mixed green salad with duck. So this was something that really intrigued me as I love duck, and rarely see it. The salad greens/bean sprouts were very fresh, really nice. The duck was sliced very nicely, perfectly cooked, but cold. The temperature of the duck is intentional. I think it would be a better dish if served warm, but that's just me. It also lacked flavor. A nice Asian soy based dressing would have been perfect with this. Soy sauce, rice vinegar, scallions, garlic, ginger, sesame oil... Anyway, we ended with a shared piece of carrot cake and coffee. The carrot cake was out of this world, and it has to be good for you since it's made out of a vegetable. The coffee is french press and should have steeped longer, but we all love strong coffee. We'll definitely go back! Nice, hidden little spot with some great food and staff. Not too expensive, clean and an easy destination.

I had the best early Birthday Dinner tonight with my dear Friend-Sister!…read more While Cooper's Hawk is a chain, I believe they do a great job of enhancing the experience of their guests. Upon entering, there's a long bar where many people gather to sample various wines. There's also an extensive offering of potential gifts if you choose. Yes, pricey, but fun to browse. The overall ambiance is what I would describe as upscale casual, but you can also dress up as much as you'd like. It's a sophisticated and yet comfortable environment and the staff members we encountered were very welcoming and attentive. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server, Taylor, was the absolute best!!! We started off with Lemon Drop Martinis that were perfect. (I took lots of pics but not of the martinis because we were thirsty!) We had narrowed our entree selections of salmon down to two and Taylor gave us her honest opinion of what she preferred while also telling us that the other option was very popular. Both my friend and I ordered the lighter salmon entree that was served with lemon and lots of vegetables. (I had previously had the miso soy glazed salmon with coleslaw, which was amazing.) I did not regret trying the lighter version of salmon with the vegetables and finger potatoes. The combination was perfect and the salmon was excellent and not at all fatty. Btw, the calorie count was 570 for this entree... Gotta love that! Since my friend reminded Taylor that we were celebrating my birthday, she brought out truffles with a candle. It was a very sweet and special way to end the evening- even though neither of us could eat another bite. It was boxed up and I put it in the fridge to share with my mom in the next day or so. While my experience at Cooper's Hawk sometimes varies between a 4-5 star experience, tonight was definitely 5 stars! Highly recommend!

They offer 2 no cost wine tastings as part of your meal but we did not partake. We had a reservation which is a must on a Saturday evening. You can also participate in wine tasting while you wait for a table. The tables are nicely spaced so you aren't sitting extremely close to others and being interrupted by conversation from other tables. The location is able to accommodate large groups and intimate dining. Our server was new but knowledgeable about the menu. Since we were first time customers, there is a required upsell speech that we were not interested in as people that don't enjoy wine and had no interest in a wine club so our server shortened that up for us. We are grateful for her ability to read the room. We tried the caprese flat bread for our appetizer. The bread is thin and crispy and toppings were flavorful but not overpowering. It was a light and enjoyable starter. The balsamic could have been stronger for our taste but overall, the dish was good. Our server brought out "complementary fresh baked pretzel bread". It looked lovely and had a crisp outer shell but was frozen in the middle. After completing our appetizer, we waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive to the table. Our server informed us that the short rib risotto I had order was the hold up as the short ribs were "just coming out of the oven". When our meal arrived the presentation was lovely; however, my "short rib" which was actually a large, tough, lukewarm piece of chuck roast served over mashed potatoes with grilled vegetables (not mushroom risotto) was less than I had hoped. On the bright side, those roasted veggies were top notch and the gravy which was necessary to choke down the tough meat was really quite tasty. Unfortunately, my husband's steak was also overcooked. He agreed that the vegetables were the best part of the meal. We skipped dessert as we had experienced enough disappointment for one night. The ambiance was nice, our server was pleasant and knowledgeable, the food just didn't make the grade.

This place never lets us down. It's always great food, great service and never disappoints. There was a small wait at check in being Sunday with the after church crowd. The people waiting were all dressed up in their Sunday's best. Our hostess seated us and we ordered our drinks with our waitress. I decided to try the Spinach dip which was highly recommended by a fellow Yelper. I'm so glad I tried it because it was delicious! It's the best appetizer I had: Ever! It was hot and cheesy with bold delicious flavors and the pita was large and perfectly fried and crispy. I will order this every time we go! I decided on a burger because I was craving one. I opted for the salad instead of fries with their delicious homemade ranch dressing. My burger was so big, I could barely take a bite. I ate half and took the rest home. It was cooked to my liking: medium well and was good, no complaints. My husband's steak was the winner. He gave me a small bite and I started to regret my choices. I think I will get the steak next time. It was to die for. We had another wonderful dinner here. Our waitress was great! Our food was great. The price was great! We will be back next time we are in town. The reason it did not get 5 stars: bathroom needed cleaned and the ribs were not available. My mother in law loves their ribs and although her Filet was delicious, she was really hoping to have her ribs.

We arrived with a party of 10 people (6 adults & 4 children), looking forward to dining together to celebrate my sons birthday. However, we were refused service on the basis of our group size. While I understand that restaurants may have policies regarding large parties, the way the situation was handled felt dismissive and lacking in accommodation or effort to offer alternatives. There was no attempt to seat us other than they told us we could sit in separate sections. Good customer service includes making reasonable efforts to accommodate guests or, at the very least, communicating policies clearly and courteously. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet those expectations. I hope you will take this feedback into consideration to improve how similar situations are handled in the future.
