First time trying this steakhouse (I believe it's a chain) so I expected the quality to be pretty decent. Got the bisque, sour cream and onion drink, steak with bleu cheese butter on the side, and the creme brulee. Food came out fairly quickly and service was great. Bisque was rich and deeply flavourful, this one really stood out. The soup had a beautiful depth, with pieces of crab meat. It finishes with a gentle kick at the end. Sour Cream and Onion had a lovely aroma right from the first bite -- the dill really comes through. Mashed potato was fluffy and smooth. Steak had a beautiful smoky flavour cooked into it, the blue cheese butter on the side adds a bit of creamy, tangy richness when you want it. Creme Brulée was a satisfying finish to the meal. Smooth, creamy custard beneath that signature crisp caramelized top. Satisfied with the place and would definitely come back again.

Stopped in after a long day of Christmas shopping at the mall where this location is at. Normally they have happy hour specials if you sit at the bar, but we were told they couldn't offer it to us as it was ending in a few minutes so we ordered off the regular menu instead which did not disappoint. Here's what we each ordered: 1) Wagyu Burger with asparagus 2) Prime Rib with baked potato and asparagus 3) BBQ Ribs with fries Like 90% of our meals there, it was great. I think I've only had two things there in the past we didn't like. One time the scallops still had pieces of sand and grit lingering with every bite and another time was an undercooked steak and bisque soup that tasted curdled. Their tea is always fresh and the selection of alcohol beverages including the smoked old fashion is amazing. Joey is usually our waiter and does a great job as he's been there for probably 10 plus years. The manager is usually very good about making his rounds to check on the guests. This visit he missed us, but it's not to be expected each time. My father was with us on this visit and had never dined there before. He said it was the best prime rib he'd had to date and my burger was delicious. The asparagus was sautéed just right with perfect seasoning, I could eat an entire plate full. Our only disappointment this visit was the bread service wasn't warm like usual tasted kind of old/stale and the amount of asparagus on my plate versus my father's was different. He got less than I did and his stalks were kind of thinner than mine, but still tasty. Can't wait for our next visit!!!

My birthday celebration (#68:) has been stupendous. I chose this, one of my favorite West County places, for dinner and had a pretty great experience. I love the ambiance of this restaurant. It's beautiful, quiet and relaxing. Our server, Raven, was awesome. To start, we chose a beautiful white wine, Conundrum, which presented with a very refreshing, multi fruit mix with a balanced finish. This would be a great wine to end a stressful day, relaxing on the patio, to erase the heaviness of the day. We chose the seafood sampler for our starter. It included oysters on the half, crab legs, lobster and shrimp, accompanied with delicious sauces. We shared the house salad, also delish. For our mains, my husband ordered the prime rib, which was excellently prepared and I ordered the off menu halibut. Unfortunately, the halibut was taken beyond the limit with the cook which was a bit disappointing. On the flip side, when I brought this to Raven's attention, she immediately spoke to Chef and I was able to get a dish that was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. The halibut was accompanied by baby bellas and gnocchi that were delicious and the beurre blanc was so tasty! We ended our dinner with a beautiful Graham 10 year Port. Oh my!! So good. We opted to take our desserts, the cheesecake and the chocolate peanut butter pie home, to enjoy as we watched the Final Four (Illini vs UConn). In finality, I would rate our experience at 4.5 (unfortunately there is not that option with the star rating). I want to thank the GM Tripp and our server, Raven, for their attention to our experience. Overall, a great memory was made and we will return!!

Made a reservation online for our anniversary. We were seated quickly. Love the decor and music choices. Got a couple cocktails... just average nothing fancy. We got the pre fix menu came with 3 courses. I got the lobster bisque, sirloin and crème brûlée. The server was great but he did get my husband order wrong... it was no big deal. My steak wasn't medium rare like I asked... it was medium so to me that's a bit tough. Not the best but not also the worst upscale/steak restaurant.

I decided to venture here after work. I let the hostess know it would just be me and she offered to sit me at the bar or a table. I opted for a table since I wanted to work on my laptop. I was still seated within the bar area so it looked like my server was also helping bartend. First off, super friendly service. I was on my phone working and he dropped water and came back as soon as he saw me hang up the phone. I ordered a crab bisque soup as my starter and then got the bourbon glazed salmon. My choice of sides was broccolini and the mac and cheese. The crab bisque was delicious! It had some crab sprinkled on top. I was also dropped some bread which was warm and yummy. Came with whipped butter. My salmon was also super flavorful and delicious. The Mac and cheese was a huge portion (that side was a couple dollars extra which made sense and made it worth it). It was delicious. I'm glad a stumbled in here after a long day. Delicious food and great service. I'll definitely be back!

Just had my favorite here, the 14 oz Ribeye and it was fabulous as usual. Cooked to med-rare perfection and delicately seasoned, it never disappoints.

    Lavender Martini

J Gilbert's is usually a great choice for a family event, get-together, or date! Easy to book online and a great atmosphere embedded into the West County Mall. But don't let that deter you from trying as it can stand alone on food quality. Last nights plate options were prime rib that got rave reviews, sirloin and shrimp, and filets. The wait staff is on point and very attentive. Start out with a craft cocktail - and highly recommend the lavender martini. The bread was very warm and fresh and comes with two options of butter - pastrami butter and a light whipped butter. The sides are pretty impeccable with multiple vegetarian choices along with more starchy options like my new favorite potato au gratin. The sweet creamed corn and bacon is superb as well. If you want additional flavor beyond the wood fired steaks (which are already amazing) - try the ancho chili rub. The pre-fixe meal option also is very fun to do as it gives you a soup/salad and even a dessert for a reasonable price. My only complaint was it was a bit of a miss on the quality of my filet last night which isn't typical - was a tad on the smaller side for a 6oz. But other steaks were to size! It is a bit of a darker place inside and typically they lower the lights even further in the evening, not my personal favorite but may be for others wanting more intimacy. Moderate sound levels.

This was an amazing meal and atmosphere, plus our service was amazing! We got the pretzel crusted onion rings as an appetizer and to be honest, this was my least favorite part of the meal. It didn't taste like anything special, just like regular onion rings. But I loved the different dipping sauces that came with it. The Caesar salad was amazing, perfect, lettuce to cheese to dressing ratio. For my meal I got the scallop risotto that was a special & this was sooo yummy and cooked perfectly. My husband felt the same about his tomahawk special. We really enjoyed the experience as a whole and will definitely be back!

From our greeting to the bill and everything in between, we loved this restaurant and will definitely add it to our "special occasions" places. Chloe was fantastic and patient since we were first timers and had a lot of questions. She was honest about food and drink ooptions I asked about and provided such a wonderful dining experience. We were celebrating our anniversary so we were gifted with a free dessert - yum! Our main entrees were delicious and the presentation was fantastic. The restaurant has dim lighting and light music playing in the background, perfect for easy to hear conversations. We will definitely be back and hope to have Chloe again.

All food was out quickly, correct, and delicious. We also ordered another pizza to go. They have a lot of steak on the menu and other entrees but we didn't want to eat a huge meal later at night after just arriving on a flight but, this is a great spot for dinner and the vibes inside are really cool. We sat beside a brick fireplace at a large round table and it was decorated with some books and interesting items. My toddler (almost 2) is super excited to be on the move and never wants to sit still so, after stuffing herself with their delicious St. Louis-style pizza, she wanted to run around. Fortunately, the room off the bar by the entrance was empty as they were prepping to close, so she ran around in there happily for about 10 minutes while my husband and stepson finished up their meal. We followed a hostess through a few very crowded rooms to our table. The service was great! The food and vibe - not so great. There are too many tables crammed in there. There's very little space to walk between them. We watched servers dodging people/tables/chairs while carrying big trays of food. When seated, you're practically sitting on top of the people at the tables by you. All of that also makes it kinda loud. My husband do the haddock special. He said the flavor of the fish was okay, but that it was over cooked. I got the burger and didn't eat most of it. I pretty much assume most places can make a decent burger. It was perfectly pink in the middle. The outside was black and it was very salty. The bottom bun was so soggy, I didn't even use it. Our appetizer of jalapeño poppers was the highlight! One of our friends ordered pizza and said it was really good. The other one ordered a steak and said it was okay. I don't imagine we'll be back.

Their social hour menu looked amazing and there are a few items I would definitely like to come back to try! Once we were seated, we started with the tuna poke, calamari, and buratta. I could have eaten the poke as my main- it was so, so delicious! For my main, I had the special which included a Caesar salad, petite filet, and crab stuff shrimp with sautéed spinach. We also ordered a few sides for the table and the scalloped potatoes were easily my favorite. The salad was wonderful and I really enjoyed my main course although my steak was a tad overdone for my liking (I ordered medium and it was more medium well - not sure if it was just a fluke, but next time I would probably order it medium rare.) I had a bite of each of the 3 desserts we ordered and the chocolate lava cake was my personal favorite. Our server was super attentive and the courses were well paced. FLEMING'S STEAKHOUSE - BOO HISS!!!…read more My sister Fay and I decided to treat ourselves to an elegant meal at Flemings in Frontenac. My meal was $85 (8 oz hand-cut filet mignon with 6 oz North Atlantic lobster tail & warm drawn butter).  Fay ordered 8 oz hand-cut filet mignon and stuffed shrimp with sautéed spinach, parmesan‑crusted Campari tomato & port wine demi‑glace for $68, and we shared a side of sweet corn brûlée with a brown sugar crust for $18. First of all, the restaurant is not really elegant.  It's nice enough, but no real ambience to make you feel special.  I wonder if Flemings used to be elegant before the ownership stopped caring about providing the current clientele an uplifted experience. We requested that our waiter Will, prepare our starter salads (candied walnuts, dried cranberries, red onion, campari tomato) in to-go boxes so we wouldn't fill up before our entree.  He brought a loaf of OK sourdough bread to the table (for $6 more you could upgrade to Milkbread with Lavendar Honey butter).  It took an exceptionally long time for the boxed salads to arrive and they mostly looked like a box full of lettuce.  Very unimpressive.  When our entrees arrived, the corn brûlée was delicious, but the steaks were hardly seasoned, not as tender as I expected, and undercooked  - my medium was a little closer to rare.  They forgot to bring the drawn butter and the lobster tail was still RAW IN THE MIDDLE. I only told the manager who happened to be walking by that my lobster was still raw. We let the unseasoned undercooked non-melt-in-your-mouth steaks slide. When I showed him the lobster which I had already cut into a few pieces, the manager only offered to cook it some more. I thought he would replace it with a fresh fully cooked lobster tail. At first this yahoo, who had been walking around shaking other people's hands extended a napkin for me to place the lobster tail in for him to take to the kitchen.  I placed the lobster tail on a bread plate.  I also expected that he would adjust our check for the inconvenience. NOPE! While waiting for my lobster to cook some more, we overheard the table behind us complain to the waiter that their lobster was undercooked and their steak was less than tender.  The waiter offered them free drinks and free dessert, and I believe this older white couple settled on returning the food and not paying anything. I'm usually a stickler about providing a generous tip for the wait staff, but this time since the wait staff did nothing to improve our experience, we left a 10% gratuity along with a handwritten paragraph at the bottom of the check explaining why.  We weren't angry, just disappointed.  With drinks, tax and tip, we learned a $240 lesson about Flemings.

The positives - the server was nice, personable and on top of drink refills. The pace she set for the meal was a good one. The bread is really good, we really enjoyed it. The steaks were soft and very slightly mealy. For the price of the food here I was expecting near perfect food. The lobster tails were a huge let down. I tried to take pictures but they did not turn out, it was too dark and the details did not turn out. But the tails are broiled a little and unfortunately that burned both of our lobster tails on the top. The accompanying baked potatoes were nice. Would we go back? Probably not unless someone specifically asked to go. It's too bad, we are local and would have liked a great special pace to go to.
