    Blackened chicken rigatoni
    Linda D.

The ambiance was perfect with soft music playing. Gina Ann was our server, so sweet, punctual & had a great personality. I mentioned that to Roland, the manager. Our food was top notch; we started with oysters Rockefeller; I had the blackened chicken rigatoni, which the rigs were cooked al dente, perfect. My husband had the maple glazed salmon with cauliflower au gratin & green beans. Had wine & an expresso martini for dessert. I have to say that the whole experience was so perfect. Thank you.

Happy anniversary to US! Thank you Corey for the EXCELLENT SERVICE! You made this a very quiet and pleasant experience...starting with our complimentary toast of champagne...st After off with their glorious blackberry jalapeño margarita ...heavenly...their fresh warm bread with plain and seasoned butter....fresh crispy salad with lots of toppings...and the star for ME was their French onion soup ..nice and hot with the melted cheese on top...Dean had a ribeye...green beens with pecans and baked potato...I had lobster (of course) with au gratin poblano cheesy potatoes...yummness...finished off with a rather large piece of car rot cake...thank you for the amazing anniversary dinner...see you next year (or sooner)

I am so blown away by this entire establishment. I'm still dreaming about this dinner!! My boyfriend and I scheduled a reservation for Valentine's Day but decided to go the day before due to our schedules. We started the evening with some drinks, I got a sparkling blackberry martini and it was so smooth. We ended up getting two starters since they both sounded delicious and we weren't led astray. The crab cakes were light and fluffy with just the right amount of seasoning to not overpower the crab. The other was the bacon wrapped shrimp. This was probably one of my favorite items we order this evening. The sauce had a sweet and spicy component that paired well with the bacon and shrimp. Due to the holiday, the Valentine's Day special menu was available for us to peruse. My boyfriend ordered the lobster and steak with sides of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese with starter of crab bisque. I had a grilled spread of salmon, scallops, crab cakes, and shrimp with sides of mashed potatoes and creamed corn. I wish I was able to put samples into this review, every bite left us wanting more and wishing our stomached were bigger. If you do choose to visit J Gilbert's, I recommend you reserve a table online. There were a decent amount of people hoping to sneak in to get a table, but unfortunately there wasn't enough availability.

Mixed Salad. I didn't get the picture soon enough! We split this salad and they put it on two different bowls, so it's a big one!!!

Date night tonight at J. Gilbert's! Ian (sp?) was our server and he was fantastic! Very pleasant and helpful! We will try the Dean's shrimp next time! The restaurant was quite busy for a Monday night; however, they were running a special on the Seafood mixed grill today through Wednesday.

6 oz filet with asparagus and poblano potatoes

This spot in downtown requires street or valet parking at a nearby hotel. I ended up choosing street parking for $1/hr. We were seated immediately in the back without a reservation, but the restaurant was not too busy on a weekday. I tried the small filet with asparagus and poblano potatoes, while my colleague tried the Dean's Shrimp and a chipotle shrimp appetizer. Our waiter was a little strange as he kept spitting a little on my menu as he was describing the highlights of the menu. Then when delivering the steak, he didn't ask if us if we wanted any sauce or condiments. I guess they are confident their prime steaks will be good enough on their own, which they were, but it would have been nice if he asked regardless. I could have used some Tabasco. The asparagus was wood grilled and tasty. The 6 oz steak, while medium at the edges, was indeed cooked a perfect medium rare on the inside as requested. The price is very fair for a prime tenderloin that comes with 2 side orders. You cannot get this price at most steakhouses in Houston. If you do, it would not come with 2 sides. We looked over the dessert menu briefly, but I didn't see anything I couldn't live without. The chocolate item was too much chocolate. Overall, we had a decent experience at this upscale small chain steakhouse.

WOW this was a delicious meal! We went to J. Gilbert's for our anniversary and it was amazing. We started off with some fresh baked bread, cocktails and the Prime Rib egg rolls. All phenomenal. I ordered the short rib gnocchi and my boyfriend ordered the burger- he said it was one of the most well-cooked burgers he's ever had. The short rib gnocchi was creamy and zesty, and the short rib complimented it really well. For our anniversary, they gave us the option of a free champagne toast or dessert, we of course chose the dessert. We got the crème brûlée. WOW it was good!! The service was awesome, it's beautiful and sophisticated inside, everything was great!

My wife surprised me with dinner at J. Gilbert's, and this place did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, classy, and exactly the kind of spot you hope a surprise date night turns into. Oysters Rockefeller. End of discussion. They're quite possibly the greatest thing I've ever had in my life. Perfectly balanced, rich, and absolutely unforgettable. If you come here and don't order them, you're doing yourself a disservice. For the entree...I went with the blackened chicken rigatoni, and it was chef's kiss. Creamy, spicy, smoky...yes, every bite hit. My better half ordered the 10‑oz sirloin and added a side of mac and cheese. Steak cooked exactly how she likes it, tender and flavorful, and the mac? Let's just say she didn't leave a single noodle behind. Between the unforgettable oysters, the standout entrées, and the top‑tier service, this was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. We walked out already agreeing this is going to be a monthly tradition. Highly recommend.

    J. Gilbert's has always been my go-to pre-concert spot before shows at CHI -- it's basically part of my concert night tradition. Their happy hour menu is one of my favorites in Omaha, and I was so excited to come back after about six months away. I did notice that the "Finest Hour" cocktail prices have gone up from $8 to $10, which isn't a dealbreaker, but I was hoping the quality and presentation would match the increase. I usually order the Smoked Old Fashioned, and it's normally such a fun, impressive drink. This time though, the waitress hurriedly set it down with no smoke and a garnish that looked thrown together -- kind of a letdown since the presentation is half the experience! For food, I ordered the sliders, which have always been a perfect portion in the past. This time they were noticeably smaller, and most of my plate was kettle chips instead of sliders. I'm hoping this was just an off night because I've always loved this restaurant and the pre-show vibes here. I'll definitely give them another try next time I'm headed to a concert, but I left this visit a little disappointed compared to my usual great experiences.

We enjoyed our food so much that we completely forgot to take a picture! Came here on a Friday night to celebrate my birthday, and as always, it's a favorite spot for special occasions. We've been loyal patrons for years, and the service continues to be amazing. Our server was attentive, and they were so kind to our 1-year-old son. The food is consistently excellent, never had a complaint. I ordered from the Prix Fixe Menu. First course was the Maryland Crab Bisque. One of my favorites in Omaha. Perfect flavor and just the right amount of crab. For the main course, I had the Filet Combo (6oz filet & crab cake with mashed potatoes and creamed corn with bacon). Everything was delicious with wonderful flavors. By the time dessert came, I realized I'd eaten it all too quickly to snap any photos! I chose the Crème de la Crème Brûlée, which was absolutely fantastic. My husband and I devoured it in no time. He ordered the 8oz Filet with au gratin potatoes and asparagus, solid dish with great flavor. For dessert, since it was my birthday, they surprised me with an additional treat to take home: their Carrot Cake, which is honestly one of the best in the city. Such a wonderful experience. Can't wait to come back again soon!

Perfect meal in Omaha the night before the concert. We flew in from Portland, Or. and I looked hard for a good restaurant for us to enjoy...I found it. I even called the hotel a couple of weeks out and they said J Gilbert's continues to be everyone's favorite. We were sat immediately by a very friendly gentleman who lived in my hometown of Schuyler, NE. Connie was our server and she was extremely efficient and engaging. We were initially provided an excellent plate of sourdough bread with two butters. We then ordered an excellent bottle of Ferrari Carano Cabernet. Then we proceeded to enjoy a perfectly made order of Onion Rings. They arrived with three sauces, and they were coated in pretzel crumbs...so good. We split a house salad and it was very refreshing. She had the 6oz Filet and I had the 14oz Ribeye, which were both incredible. The Poblano Scalloped Potatoes should also be mentioned. It was so good. The restaurant was full and it is easy to see why. With the phenomenal service by Connie, and the great food...we will definitely come back on our next trip to Omaha.

This place is an amazing steak house. I have no complaints with any parts of the dining service and the food. They delivered! We ordered a maple bacon for apps, lobster bisque, onion soup, 6oz mignon and 8oz mignon, and a carrot cake for dessert. Everything was super delicious and well seasoned. The bacon was just a bit salty but the maple syrup made up for it. The sourdough served before our soups came was delicious. We actually asked for them to box one up to take home and they did! Prices were fair and they delivered a good dinner to us. I'd recommend anyone going to Omaha to eat at this steak house!

This restaurant was recommended for steaks by someone we met at our hotel. We booked dinner reservations as it was close by in the Marriott Hotel. We started off with a couple cocktails and warm sourdough bread. So far so good. We ordered a bone in ribeye to share, sides of creamed corn and broccolini, and grilled scallops as an add on. Steak was ordered medium rare, but first steak came out medium well. They kindly replaced it with another, which was raw. Apparently the chef overcompensated by making sure it wasn't overcooked. Our server took a look at it after my husband cut into it and took it back again. Third time was a charm. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. By then, the sides were cold, but we were just grateful that the steak was ok. We felt bad for our server, but she was kind and understanding. The manager came by to check on us a few times and made sure that the steak was prepared the way it should have been the first time. She said that she told them to take the temperature of the steak on the third try. She was apologetic and discounted our bill without us asking. Their carrot cake was delicious, as was their chocolate cake which came with raspberry ice cream. Both were huge slices and we took half back to our hotel. The restaurant is beautiful and I'd recommend them for dinner if you're in the area.

Lime with Mint and Passionfruit Sorbet

A most wonderful experience and some of the best food we've ever eaten!!! Our reservation was for 5:30 and we arrived around 5:20 and were immediately sat. The reservation from Open Table was only for the bar and that is where we were sat. I didn't ask for a different location. The bar area was nice and we had a high top table for four. The chairs were decent but my legs were not quite long enough to be comfortable resting them on the crossbar. I've sat in worse seats though. I decided to get the Prix Fixe and selected the Little Gem salad, the filet with sour cream mashed potatoes and asparagus, and the sorbet. My husband got the crab bisque blackened scallops with the pork belly and maple corn. Every bite I tasted was amazing. Like a "omg" type of moment. I don't usually get excited about mashed potatoes or corn sides, but both of these sides were stunners. And the sorbet? Wowsers!!! I do feel the Lime Mint flavor would actually be better as a palette cleanser course (would be a great addition to the Prix Fixe menu as a bonus) but the Passionfruit was absolutely wonderful. Our server, Blake, was also really fantastic. She was kind, friendly, and provided the perfect type of attentiveness. When we are back in town, I would definitely visit again. Wonderful experience.

    Ask the Community - J Gilbert's

Is this place okay for two children aged 8 and 10? Is there a kids menu or should we opt somewhere else while we're in town? We adults need a good Omaha steak!

I'm not sure if they have a kids menu. I would doubt it so it maybe a struggle for picky kid eaters but I've seen kids eat there before. It is one of the better steaks in Omaha and would recommend the try. My favorite is The Drover in west Omaha…

    Is there a dress code?

Casual is just fine. It's a nice place with excellent food, so I would avoid shorts or torn jeans, tanks, etc. You'll be at home if you decide to dress up as well

Where should I park if I don't want to use valet parking?

There is a parking garage attached to the City Center/Marriott complex. Relatively inexpensive. Direct entrance on the backside of the Marriott.

In terms of special request on reservations what can you all do? Better yet, what am I limited to?

Hi Elma, if you would like to submit any special requests: reach out via email to 3829@jgilberts.com or call at (531) 222-9218.

Are you guys open for Thanksgiving?

Yes! We are open from 11am-8pm.

Ok after reading some of the reviews looks like they got rid of the complimentary valet parking and it costs $5. How much is the structured parking lot? Thanks in advance.

The structured parking lot pricing will very with events, but will typically run 7-9 dollars.

I know they are predominantly a steak house and i see they have a specific vegetarian menu but do they have vegan options/menu? Thanks in advance!

Yes, they have options. Some will be off the menu and ask for a special order i.e. pasta without the chicken and no thick basted sauce with beef broth.

They definitely have/had some pretty high prices compared to other eateries in the area. I'm not sure if that is caused by cost of goods or location or what, but I think that did come into play when a lot of economic hardship is happening all over. Like I mentioned above, I DID like their food, but it definitely had to be a special occasion type of thing, due to the high prices. When we did go, I LOVED the Maryland Crab Dip. It reminded me of my favorite crab dip in the world, at the SweetWater Brewing Company in Atlanta. We also had the Green Bean Almandine that was on special last time we went and that was pretty good, but you have to be a green bean fan, for sure. I decided to try the sushi as my main dish last time, and had the Everything Crunch Maki, which consisted of cooked salmon, jalapeño, and cream cheese. It was pretty good, and had a little hint of spice to it from the jalapeño, which cut the heavy cream aspect. My husband had the Grilled Atlantic Salmon for his entree, and gave me a few bites. It was cooked well and the mushroom risotto below it was very flavorful and filling. The cute nautical ambiance and excellent service were always appreciated, so no complaints there either. I think if they had been in a different area with less expensive rent and cost of goods, I may have visited more often.

It should be noted that they will take reservations during the week, but not on weekends. There are a number of large tables that can accommodate bigger groups. Complementary parking lot is available out front. However, it does get a little tight during their busy times. This is an interesting Mexican restaurant as it reminds me of something more typical of what you would find on the Yucatán peninsula. Shrimp and mixed ceviche dishes, a large variety of fish dishes, including whole fish that are very traditional for that part of Mexico. They also serve excellent salsa and guacamole, however, this is not the type of Mexican restaurant you can order dishes of queso, or some of the more traditional dishes that you would find at other, more Americanized restaurants. Our server, Christine V was super! We got there a little early in order to secure a larger table off to the side since our infant granddaughter is going to be joining us for a birthday celebration. This restaurant well they don't allow you to bring it outside cakes for dessert offer a variety of desserts that can be offered for special occasions. We were able to select a strawberry Tres Leche cake, which was just perfect for the occasion. We also enjoyed their margaritas, which were excellent and offered in the variety of enormous proportions! Everything that was ordered, was generous in quantity and delicious and quality that included a variety of fajitas and shrimp dishes. This location also offers seafood rolls that are prepared at a sushi counter. For those that are a little less brave there are a number of options that offer everything cooked and prepared just like you would find in any local sushi restaurant and as good. The one thing I also love about this restaurant is that it is immaculately clean. There's a dedicated crew that roams and never leaves anything unbussed for long. Everything appears to be wiped, sanitized, and swept in between every round of customers which is brisk. The manager came around and checked on us to ensure we have everything we need and offered us to go bags. Everything about this visit was very positive. Highly recommend this location as it's been voted one of the best of Omaha for 2023.

We initially decided to come here because our daughter's name is Isla and we thought she would think it was cool to see her name when we explained to her what it was called but the food will definitely motivate us to come back. The service was hit or miss and definitely on the slower side, but we will definitely come back to try some other new dishes next time. I can't actually find it on pictures of the menu, but the dish we ordered was served in a pineapple and it was phenomenal!

And I gave $60 tip because of the number of people. Got back home and found that they charged me a "server fee" of $25.64! Wow! Tanya, what a dishonest waitress. I'll never go back and eat there. You should ha e explained to me what the server fee was. I would still have tipped good. It now I'll never go back.

You can choose from a wide variety of seafood such as shrimp, mussels, lobster, snow crab etc. once you choose your seafood that you select your flavoring. Choices are Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter, or a mix of all three. Lastly, choose your spice level (mild, medium, hot, etc). We both selected the snow crab and snow boil with Cajun seasoning and mild spice. The boils also come with corn, potatoes and a hard boiled egg. Never seen the egg in a boil before. Everything comes out in a big plastic bag in a steel pan. Dump the contents out and prepare to dig in. Let me say that this is not the place to go out all dressed up. The boils are very messy. They give you an apron and plastic gloves, but still a mess. It was delicious. We also got a couple sides of hush puppies which were very tasty as well. Good portions. Staff was friendly and informative. Really great flavors in the boils. They did a real good job. Definitely worth checking out.

Loved this place!…read more Omaha was such a surprising place for its range of high quality food. Memoir was only a few blocks away from our Moxy Hotel. We were able make a reservation on Open Table. Food (5/5): We had some wonderful food here. We had the following: TSUNAMI MAKI inside * shrimp tempura, crab mix, cream cheese / outside * crab stick tempura, spicy honey mustard, sweet soy, sesame seeds (8 pcs) WAGYU MEMOIR DIP* - smoked shaved beef, crescenza cheese, horseradish aioli, french bread, fries or simple salad Both were really delicious. For some reason, I missed the the "dip" was a "French dip sandwich" - I thought tit was actually a dip (haha). We split the sandwich as it was huge, and then ended up ditching the bread and adding the beef to the fried rice, below. BEEF FAT FRIED RICE - egg, snow peas, carrot, scallion Service (5/5): Server was kind and efficient. Ambiance (5/5): Cool, modern and upscale vibe. We had a cool corner booth. Loved the atmosphere.

The server was great and even gave us great recommendations for beverages in the Old Market area. Beautiful furniture and an elegant feel to Memoir, making it a great "special occasion meal" location. I've been here a couple times and couldn't recommend the potato puffs appetizer enough. The fluffy and crunchy potato served with cheese that perfectly coats the puff. Delightful. The eggs Benedict was very uniquely blended together by the pickled onion and avocado, no meat, which is a neat take on eggs Benedict. Well seasoned hollandaise sauce with a perfectly poached egg. For the mocktail drinkers like myself, they have three options to choose from. One jalapeño & pineapple, a guava orange, and one other. They pay close attention to detail, from laying the plates with the name "Memoir" facing you, to cooking your meal to near perfection. They even give the birthday person a card signed by the staff, alongside a complimentary dessert.
