Our server Alex was absolutely delightful! Really went into detail when we had questions about the menu. I really liked the vibe that was set at the place, really great for a date night. We both had the grand prix and the steak was amazing. I got the crab cake to try something new, but personally I didn't find it as exciting as the steak. I had a hard time deciding which dessert to eat but glad we picked on the apple and the chocolate raspberry cake. Both very easy to eat and wasn't as heavy as I thought. For a high end restaurant, i definitely expected this place to be nicer and the service to be top notch. Our server was fine, but would tell us he was going to bring us specific things and then completely forget. He said he was gonna get new iced tea for us and never did. I ordered the caesar salad and it was not good at all. I'm not sure if the lettuce was expired or what was wrong with it, but something was really off. I had everyone at my table try it to see if it was just me. They said it was bad too! I am not one to return dishes EVER but i couldn't eat it, it made me feel sick. the server asked if i wanted something else and i said no, it kinda ruined my appetite. He still charged us for the entire salad. I'm not sure what restaurants usually do in this situation but for a high end restaurant, i would assume that not charging us for the $11 salad would not hurt them whatsoever. The people beside us also returned a salad so i think the lettuce was just bad. I do not think i should be charged for bad lettuce. I had only taken like 2 bites. The bacon starter was good, the mac and cheese good, and crab cakes delicious. The only other thing we didn't like was the watermelon agua fresca. We would not return to this place because the food was not out of this world and service wasn't our favorite. read more

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and it was the cutest spot! They had a little anniversary card for us as well. Feels like an old mafia meet up place but classy if that makes sense. My in-laws came into town to celebrate my wife's birthday early! We got reservations before hand and were seated for 6 very quickly. Our servers were very timely throughout the night and super helpful overall! I got the tropical breeze drink which tasted amazing! It was full of fruit flavor and smoothness. I got the wood-grilled ribs for dinner and it was a great! The meat fell off the bone and the sauce tasted amazing with it! Mei Li is one of the best servers I've had in a long, long time. She made our birthday dinner this evening something extra special. I had the filet and crab cake daily offering which was incredible. The cocktails were inventive and the bread is lovely. This is a perfect place to celebrate an occasion or have an intimate night out. Just be prepared for your seating area to be very dark. We came here to celebrate my dads birthday and weren't super happy with our experience. We started off by all sharing the bacon entree which was very good. The bacon was very fatty, soft, and oily. It had amazing flavor and presentation. Then my sister got a salad which she did not like. It had a sour taste to it, my mom also tried it and did not like it. The waiter did offer to replace it which was nice but ended up still charging for the salad. The table next to us also returned a salad so I don't know if they had bad lettuce or what. Then we got their watermelon margarita which was really good! The tajin rim isn't for me but I know lots of people that like that, plus the tajin does compliment the watermelon. It even came with an actual slice of watermelon inside the drink. The bread was brought to us pretty late and it was pretty average sourdough. Then we got our food, their sour cream mashed potatoes were very smooth and creamy. I ordered the white cheddar Mac and cheese side and it was really good! It was also creamy, warm, and had a good mild flavor to it. There was an issue with organization, our waiter was very nice but forgot to bring two different refills he said he would bring. The room that we sat in was very tight and people had to squeeze past the seats to get to their table. It felt like we were pushed off to the side. Both my parent's dishes they ordered were ok but nothing they had hoped for. The pricing is pretty high but is expected for the environment. I'd be down to try it again another time to see if it can live up to some of its reviews. read more

Consistency. This place continues to just put out really awesome product and service. The kind of dependability in restaurants that isn't common sense anymore. The menu is amazing and I have never had anything that I wouldn't wanna have for my last meal. I had the pre fixed 3 course with dessert. We all loved everything. I had a great first experience at J Gilbert's. I ordered from the $64 Tier Prix fixe menu and the Mango Tango for my drink. I got the filet combo with the crab cake for my main. The filet cooked medium rare was perfect. The crab cake was full of yummy crab meat and without all the breading fillers you often get with crab cakes. The cheesecake was also a highlight. I'm a huge cheesecake fan and this was up there with the best I've had. The starter bread, mashed potatoes, and asparagus were all average / pretty standard in my opinion. I'm not sure if you're able to sub mashed potatoes and asparagus on the prix fixe menu but would maybe ask on my next visit. 5/5 Mango Tango 3/5 Starter bread and butter 5/5 Crab bisque 5/5 Filet 5/5 Crab cake 3/5 Mashed potatoes 3/5 Asparagus 5/5 Cheesecake The restaurant is dark and has a cool vibe. Food, drinks served was great, my server was very attentive to the table and answered all my questions due to it being my first time dinning in. 10/10 Starters: Two west coast oysters Maryland crab bisque Crab cakes 8/10 Drinks: Pineapple, Sparkling berry Martini (was not bubbly). The lavender martini was a 10/10 made to perfection couldn't even taste the liquor. 8/10 Entrees: 6oz filet with yukon mashed potatoes 18oz bone in ribeye with Mac and cheese. Both steaks were more on the bland side definitely was missing flavor. À la cart: Shrimp and scallops 10/10 Dessert: crème brûlée 10/10 I really enjoyed my time here, the food overall was good. J. Gilbert's used to be our go-to spot for every major celebration. Birthdays, anniversaries, you name it. We've handed out so many holiday gift cards to the family that I half expected a plaque with our name on the wall. But after tonight? Not sure we'll be back unless they bring emotional support lobster mac. Now listen, I can survive a menu change. You want to retire the surf and turf and send lobster mac and cheese to early retirement? Fine. I'll light a candle and move on. But not letting us swap sides? What kind of cruel carb-restrictive world are we living in? And don't get me started on the Smoked Old Fashioned. We swapped rum for whiskey and they refused to smoke it. It's in the name. That's like ordering a flaming dessert and getting a lukewarm muffin. The bread was different. And not in a fun experimental bakery way. More like they ran out of the good stuff. The crab bisque no longer poured tableside? Suspicious. Probably because there's roughly one crab molecule per bowl and they don't want you to see how fast it sinks. All in all, it just didn't feel like the elevated experience we've grown to love. It felt more like J. Gilbert's Budget Cuts Edition. Fingers crossed it's just a phase. Like Crocs. read more
