All I can say is...wow! So many great things about this place. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. The selections were really enticing. The staff was so great. One of the best small restaurant chains in Austin. The food is all locally sourced, and every time we come here the food is excellent. The house made pimento cheese is so so good, and I definitely recommend getting it as an appetizer. They give you a tiny sample of it once you're seated, but it's so good you'll for sure want more. I had the BBQ Fried chicken sandwich for lunch along with a crisp and refreshing Moscow mule. The service we receive is excellent every time. The vibe of this place is really cool as well, a great place for a date night or a group of friends! If the weather is good, they have a wonderful outdoor seating area. Our first experience with Jack Allen's was a couple of months ago at their 360 location. We were extremely impressed and absolutely loved the farm to table fare. My husband so much so that he dubbed it one of his favorite meals in Austin. For a guy who thinks every new place I have him try is simply "alright", that's a pretty bold statement. Their red chili fries are downright orgasmic but we didn't order them this time because we wanted to be hungry for our entrees. Instead, I started with a cup of their soup du jour which was a hatch green chili pork stew. I forgot their version of a cup is what most consider a bowl, and it was really good and comforting on such a chilly night. I loved the addition of hominy too. My husband opted for chips and their salsa which they shake together for you table side via a cute little mason jar. Very fresh and creative. I can't say I've ever seen another restaurant serve salsa that way before and uniqueness is a good trait to have. As my main dish I chose the chicken tinga tacos. There is some assembly required with these that surprisingly I was into. The chicken was well seasoned and fall apart tender. It's served in its own dish with stewed tomatoes and cojita cheese. Next to it are 4 mini corn tortillas, a wedge of lime, guacamole, and vegetable studded cilantro rice with corn and black beans. Every element on that plate was outstanding and full of flavor. My husband was feeling more naughty so he went for the chicken fried pork chop. That thing was a monster! They served it over a bed of mashed potatoes and steamed fresh vegetables that were tossed in a yummy spice mix. He ate everything on his plate and at one point told me that if we were at home, he would already be gnawing on the pork chop bone like a dog. My fella is one classy broad y'all ;-) I'm so glad we picked Jack Allen's for our last dinner in Austin. I sure will miss this beautiful city and all the people in it. But especially the food!!! Come on Jack, you've been thinking of opening a Dallas location right? If not you should! Until then, I guess we will just have to visit as often as we can. So we were merrily munching away at Jack Allen's Sunday brunch, when Mr Gilmore himself sits at the bar across from us. I'm wondering how amusing it would be if we introduced ourselves by saying, "That Barley Swine guy suggested we try your place when Barley's not open." At that moment, the Barley Mr Gilmore himself walks in the door, recognizes us & says hi, and then joins the first Mr Gilmore at the bar. I truly enjoy a good Karma moment. And I truly enjoy Sunday brunch at Jack Allen's. Yeah, yeah, I know buffet brunching is the quickest way to lose Yelp street cred, but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. For $16, I think Jack Allen's Sunday affair is still the best "All things considered, a remarkable deal" for Sunday brunchers here in Austin. If you've been to the JA on 71, this new one in Round Rock won't surprise you. The layout is pretty much the same, and the Tomato-Basil pie, pasta salads, and green-chili concoctions will seem like old friends. Vegheads can eat well here and meaters have their own hot-lamp array. Vegans need to watch out for cheese. Along with the usual pastry table, this JA has an official Round Rock Doughnut display - slather them with raspberry butter and strawberry jam, and you too will be doing the cat's meow. They were still replenishing the buffet line with fresh stuff ten minutes before it closed, and remember your server will bring you all the eggs, biscuits, and silver dollar pancakes you can handle from the kitchen. 5 Stars. What did you expect? My review probably won't give this place justice. And so many other Yelpers have given it the reviews it deserves...I'm a little late to the game but I'll try... Why, oh why, am I just now coming to Jack's?! First of all, it's a super classy and friendly place that uses farm to table ingredients (caters to all). Second, their Happy Hour is great. Not sure what time it started but we got there around 5 and it ended at 7...We ordered a few apps and a few drinks...Apps were half off and drinks were $1 off. They first serve you with a little chip and cheese (forgot what kind) which was totally yummy. I ordered the Smashed Guacamole (pumpkin seeds, Cotija cheese, tortilla chips) which was delicious and then we shared the Spinach Gorgonzola Ravioli (walnut pesto cream sauce, grated Parmesan chipotle puree, grilled ciabatta bread) which was superb. For drinks I had the cherry mojito and pomegranate martini. All drinks and food were made from the finest ingredient! ;) This really is a great place and one to keep going back to. This review is SOLELY for Jack Allen's Kitchen's Sunday Brunch, and mostly from a Gluten Free (GF) perspective. We arrived 20 minutes after opening (10am), and the wait was already ~30 minutes. No big deal, as we knew what to expect. It's buffet service only between 10am and 2pm on Sunday (menu service after 2pm). We found a gap of four seats at the bar with what LOOKED like only two folks sitting there. Since they were at the buffet, we couldn't be sure. The awesome bartender coordinated the empty spot when they returned, allowing us to sit (and not have to wait for 'first available'). Two points for the bartender! He explained the lay of the land, what we would order through him (made to order farm fresh eggs, pancakes, or biscuits/gravy), and got our drinks going. It was pretty handy to have our server always within 20 feet of us, and both of them at the bar took great care of us the whole time. Now my wife is used to GF breakfast buffet usually meaning trays of congeally scrambled eggs, bacon, and fruit. But at JAK, it's so much more. And much of it is really really good. Hits of the GF offerings (clearly labelled with a "GF"): - jalapeno sausage (tons better than the 'bacon' sausage GF offering) - the house cured ham (made me not miss bacon. Wait, what?) - the hash browns (you should have seen the look of joy on my wife's face when they brought fresh hash browns right in front of us) - migas - a couple of the salads - cooked-to-order farm fresh eggs "Meh"s of the GF offerings: - the Green Chile Pork and Eggs - aforementioned 'bacon' sausage - the fruit was ok, not great Things my wife wishes were GF: - Layered Enchilada Casserole. Solid. I'll give it a B. - Fresh Tomato and Basil Pie. My fave dish of the day (poor GF wife). I didn't even really want to try it, but she made me get some on her behalf, and she was quite sad with how much I liked it. Think really good fresh margherita pizza served as a casserole. - The mac and cheese. It was ok, but really, I would have rather used those calories on more ot fhe Tomato Basil Pie! - the fried chicken and ribeye tenders were fine, especially with the cream gravy, though they didn't knock my socks off. The buffet was well monitored by staff, and always replenished before a tray was completely emptied. I received my perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. And we closed with a $3.50 sangria. I'm not sure WHY I didn't get the pancakes... or a biscuit. (probably to keep my wife from being jealous). I hear I really missed out. I would like to see some sort of gluten free bread offering, even if it's only toasted bread for my wife's egg yolk sopping up purposes. Though it probably would need to be to-order as well. But c'mon. They had Round Rock donuts on the buffet! Why?!?!? (Yeah, well. I still had three of the donut holes. *blushes*) My wife doesn't feel her appetite justifies buffet pricing. But really, at $14.99, it's only a couple bucks more than mediocre lunch somewhere else. So, I told her not to worry about that when we go again. Driving on the way home, we wanted to eat somewhere different. We weren't feeling anything else besides a good American style meal. This was a rare moment trying out a restaurant without me reading what others thought of it. I figured 400+ reviews with a 4.5 star average is good enough for me. Our server, Biff, was very knowledgeable of everything on the menu and was very attentive. We never had to ask for a refill and our empty plates were swiftly cleared from the table. I had the gumbo, which was great on it's own -- but, what really kicked it up a notch was the habañero sauce; try it if you're feeling spicy. The crispy salmon with crab and hothouse tomato wedges in a tomatillo sauce was a simple dish, but extremely big on flavor. You can really taste the freshness of the vine-ripened tomatoes and watercress? ... not sure what it was, but I liked it! Biff informed us that all the meat and produce were sourced from Texas local farms and is an ever-changing menu dependent on the bounty yielded for the season. The quality of our food seemed as if we were dining at a 4-5 star restaurant with relatively inexpensive prices. I definitely would come here again if I'm ever in the area -- especially to try out their popular brunch AYCE. Now, I see why this is a local favorite. I have had tastes of Jack Allen's cuisine at a few foodie events and somehow pictured the restaurant menu and atmosphere differently. The restaurant appeals to the masses, a well rounded affordable menu and good sized portions. Jack Allen's sources many of their ingredients from local farms such as beef from Richardson Farms, cheese from Pure Luck and Windy Acre just to name a few. They also have some Texas taps and a portion of their drink menu dedicated to local spirits titled "Home Grown Favorites". We were greeted with a sample of their signature house made pimento cheese served on a flat bread cracker. Based on our waitresses' suggestion I ordered the chili mango shrimp tacos and Jesse gave the 5 cheese macaroni and chicken a go. For $12.99 my shrimp tacos with their "studded" veggies rice and black beans was a steal! I expected a little more kick but the mildly sweet mango sauce tasted delicious with the shrimp. We also expected more heat from the macaroni and cheese as it had achiote chicken. The mac and cheese was huge full of creamy cheese and topped with dusting of crunch. You wont find beautifully dressed small plates covered in beet foam but you will find a solid meal that is locally sourced at an affordable price. All in all Jack Allen's is a great local alternative to the chain restaurants that line the I-35 corridor in Round Rock. read more

Jack Allen's can do no wrong. This is the first time I have been to the Round Rock location. It is smaller, but has a similar atmosphere to the 360 location. I swear Jack must be able to carbon copy himself, because the majority of the time I visit his restaurant on 360 I see him there. When I went for a late lunch with a friend to Round Rock, he was there! He is everywhere! His passion and involvement with his businesses is obvious in the consistent quality experiences I have now had at multiple locations. Another bonus, James the restaurant manager from the former Spicewood Tavern works here, and he is fabulous. The service is phenomenal, the restaurant setting is open, modern and cozy. For a local sourced, fresh, quality food experience the menu and drinks are affordably priced. The southwestern comfort food focused menu is hard to select from as everything is good, and the appetizers are hard to refuse. You will definitely not leave hungry, as the food portions are quite large - shareable really. My friend and I ordered the chicken country club salad and a pasta dish. My friend absolutely loved her pasta dish, and definitely took part of it home for left overs. The chicken salad was delicious. read more

From the outside, Jack Allen's Kitchen looks just like another chain restaurant serving deep fried everything and anything. But my first impression could not be further from the truth. From the minute we sat down, we were treated to amazing service, tasty and creative food and kick ass cocktails. The menu is varied and focuses on locally produced and fresh ingredients. I can go on and on about how everything on the menu is 5 star worthy. Another huge plus, it's expense account friendly with most dishes priced under $20.00, I ordered the rib eye (served with a delicious potato and cheese gratin) which is the priciest entree at $24.00. Speaking of the rib eye, it was cooked to five star perfection! The wine and cocktail list will have any sloppy drinking lush doing the happy dance. The wines are also reasonably priced with little markup. The waitstaff was excellent and well versed on both the food and drink menu. If I am ever in the area again, I will for without question be sure to drop in again. read more

Holy Smokes this place is fantastic. We started off with the Red Chili fries which consist of Idahos, red chile, scallions, lime, Cotija cheese, cilantro (which I moved to the side as I do not like cilantro, and garlic aioli. They were so good and loaded with flavor. I've never had Red Chili Fries. We also had a sample of the House Made Pimiento Cheese and it was really good with the flatbread crackers that came with it. For my meal, a family member suggested the 13 Spiced Chicken Pasta which I ended up ordering. It consisted red pepper linguini (which I've never had), spinach linguini, fresh jalapeños chipotle cream, and Cotija cheese. The pasta was amazing. The chicken wasn't dry at all and the dish was creamy. There were so many different flavors but they all complimented each other. I didn't think this dish was spicy at all. I definitely would order this again. I was able try sample the fried green tomato dish they were featuring and it was really good. Everything here was really fresh and we really enjoyed it. After getting turned away from Chuy's for lunch by 30 minute wait, my girlfriend saved the day (and our starving stomachs) with a quick yelp look up to discover this neat little joint! The waitress was unobtrusive and was actually quite helpful and honest when it came to her recommendations on what to get! I ordered the Red Ruby Trout, and man, it was divine. The fish was plated on top of a delectable side of sautéed spinach, a cilantro rice pilaf, and fine sliced apples. The fish was topped off with caramelized roasted pecans to go with a light lemon wedge. Really really top notch. I highly recommend it! My girlfriend got the Red Ruby Trout salad, which actually is a nice remix of the entree and tastes much different. It's somehow simultaneously lighter and creamier at the same time. If you're not looking for a full fledged entree and/or are looking to stick to that new year resolution, then get this! The other people in our group ordered the chicken enchiladas (which came with a sunny side up EGG!!!!!!!) and the green chile pork tacos. From how fast they finished their plates, I'm guessing they enjoyed their food too! Overall, a really nice place for lunch! As a bonus, they also source their ingredients from local farms! Sorry guys, I forgot to take pictures. Wah! My brother and I came here tonight for a quick bite. We opted to sit in the bar area which has open seating. We snagged a dirty table which was promptly cleared. Our server, Audry, was very nice and attentive. I think she might have been the only waitress in the bar area, which was pretty busy. Our order came out at lightning speed! I thought for sure they were at the wrong table, but nope. We ordered chips and salsa. The salsa is so good, but not spicy at all. I love all the flavors, but I wish there was a little kick to it. The chips were warm and crispy. Really fantastic! I ordered the veggie and portobello tacos. So they were like deconstructed tacos or served like fajitas are typically served. Veggies, rice, beans, and guacamole on a plate with a pile of small corn tortillas. I have to say, the tortillas were great! The veggies were cooked perfectly and the portobello mushrooms were not soggy, like I often encounter. The rice and beans were also perfectly seasoned and cooked. My brother ordered the spinach and Gorgonzola raviolis. Interestingly, it was under starters, so we assumed it would be a small plate. Wrong! It was huge and served with two large pieces of bread. He said it was really delicious, but couldn't finish the meal. Also they apparently have half priced apps in the bar for happy hour because his ravioli meal was only $6. So the total bill was $23 and included a beer. Not too shabby at all! I have a lot to list about this place. First of all, they have happy hour until 7:00 PM on weekdays it appears. All of the starters were half off and alcoholic drinks were a dollar off. When we first sat down, the waitress brought us a scoop of pimento cheese with two chips. The tasting was free and awesome. It really gave you a good vibe about the place. She explained how all of the food was sourced locally. This explains why they have different specials daily. I had the smashed guacamole for starters. It was pretty incredible. Forget regular restaurants where all of the guacamole is pre-made in a giant tub. They make the guac here fresh for every table. It mas an avocado, onions and even some pumpkin seeds mixed in. We had to mix the rest together, so take my word for it.. it was fresh. The Slow Roasted Chicken Tinga was pretty awesome. You could tell they marinated the chicken in the chipotle mix for quite a while. It had a smoky taste. Mini corn tortillas were provided to make tacos. The Crispy Salmon was even better. The chef recommended I have it medium which is a little under for my tastes. I went ahead and trusted them and ordered it. I made the right choice. The outside of the salmon was crunchy and you almost needed a knife to separate it. The insides were juicy and just cooked enough. It wasn't super flaky. It was juicer than other salmon I've had. I even had a cheesecake dessert with girl scout cookies that were crumbled into a crust. That's just awesome. read more
