I fell in love with this place before I even arrived! I called and (I think) the owner answered and was sweet and funny! I knew we were heading to the right place. It's really small and cute. We sat outside because it was gorgeous out! The service was friendly. We both started with coffee and were happy with it (I'm picky about coffee). The fresh squeezed OJ was good too. The BF had eggs Benedict which I'm really sad I didn't take a bite of. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure he never offered. I had a scrambler with sausage, cheddar and mushrooms. It was delicious! I also had wheat toast and was served 2 homemade jams. A strawberry and lemon. I wanted to sit there all day and just eat that jam!!! The only thing that was just average were the hash browns on my plate. I like them burnt though and they weren't well done. Maybe that's why. I will absolutely eat here again when in Michigan! I was pretty excited to try this place, as I loved the chocolate bag at RedLight in Chicago. I heard that the chef, Jackie, walks around her new spot and greets customers. Thus, I could not wait to give it a shot. The restaurant is not very exciting decor wise. It is bright and clean. We were the only patrons on a recent Sunday morning. Our server smiled but clearly was not happy to be working. Very odd and uncomfortable. The food was dynamic. Simple, quality ingredients. My scramble was delicious and perfectly executed. I loved the lemon curd and grape jam on the table. Jackie was not walking around the restaurant greeting people. Maybe because we were the only patrons. Disappointing. read more

Have been to Jackies before and never had an issue. This past Saturday we were there and the food didn't live up to standards. The hash browns we're not cooked all the way through for neither myself nor my wife. We also saw another table with the hash browns not eaten. Maybe it's low season so it's less attention but believe that cooking hash browns shouldn't change based up on the season. Service was still good. Will probably give them another chance when we're back in New Buffalo. read more

Jackie's is a home run! If you can say hello to Jackie it will make you day. She is the most energetic lovely lady as charming as can be. It always fascinates me to read why people complain or poorly rate a special place. Clearly everyone's taste is different. Yes Jackie uses some global influence French/Asian Israeli etc. if you want a boring old dinner maybe Jackie's might not be for you. Some people complain about the prices. If you don't appreciate high quality and pride put into the dishes, one might think this place is over priced- I think it is a value! The hash brows I thought were the best hash browns I've ever had. Not sure what her magic is I want to ask. She is terrific about sourcing high quality super fresh produce for dishes. Jackie was a legend in Chicago dinning for several decades, and New Buffalo is so lucky to have her in the community. Visited Jackie's Cafe in New Buffalo on the way home from Chicago. A nondescript little place off the beaten track in a little resort town, with surprisingly amazing food by Jackie Shen, a renowned Chicago chef who left the big city. My husband and I discovered it a few years ago and I am happy to say it is still going strong. On each table is a jar of her homemade lemon curd and blueberry preserves. Delicious & Fresh! Random find on the way home from a Wedding in SE Michigan. We had a group of 6 on a beautiful day and sat on the patio. Extremely clean restaurant! I was really impressed at the cleanliness of the overall restaurant, bathrooms, and dishes. Not that you would expect these things to be less than but it was noticeably very clean. This place was a great find heading from Michigan city to south haven. Good food! Great American breakfast items with a fantastic upgrade. Lunch was also fabulous. Our group of 4 was split on lunch or breakfast so this served us well. The ONlY thing was it was very busy and the food came out slow but it was the end of the holiday week so I'm guessing that had a lot to do with it. There is breakfast and there is lunch. Then there is breakfast and lunch the way Jackie makes it. I was in New Buffalo for 3 days. Happened upon Jackie's almost by accident, as the outside is very unasuming for the amazing food served inside. There is something that happens to a meal when you know the owner is the chef and the chef is in the back. There is something that happens when the owner, chef come to the front of the house to also care for the guests. ( not customers, but guests) And does so with such happiness and appreciation. There is something that happens when the chef, puts a care and quality and love into the preparation, and presentation of the meal. Lunch or breakfast, the quality was still the same. I was in town for 3 days and had 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts. Asian Noodles, Brisket Sandwich, Eggs, French Toast. All delicious. In addition purchased some of Jackie's home made jams and deserts as a hostess gift for later that evening that were amazing. If your within 35 minutes of Jackie's, make the drive. If you live closer, turn the stove off and eat at Jackie's. Trust me, anything you make at home will not compare. read more

First and last trip here. Waited to be sat, then sat for about 5-8 minutes for a water. Another 6-10 minutes before we flagged down someone so we could order. Neither sever knew who should be waiting on us. Watched other tables get sat and served while we waited for coffee. Finally asked if we could get the coffee we order after waiting around 10 minutes.Food was ok at best, not nearly the quality I would expect for the price. We grabbed our own condiments from the counter by the kitchen. $3 for literally the worst coffee I have ever had! First time I have ever left a coffee full due to the terrible taste. Wish I could say the experience was better as I like to support local business, but this was very lack luster. read more

We had read great things about Jackie's but were unfortunately let down by the experience overall. Servers were nice but clearly were under staffed and struggled to attend to their tables, we sat for 30 minutes without being helped and had to frequently ask for refills. Our orders were mixed up with another table and items we had ordered that didn't arrive. The Benito Benedict was pretty good but the make your own scrambler came out runny and with hash browns that were burnt in the outside and cold inside. Such a cute, cheerful place with great food and service. We stopped for a light breakfast - granola parfait and healthy pancakes. Both tasted very fresh. The highlight of the parfait was the multigrain toast that comes with. It arrived with homemade strawberry preserves and lemon curd, both delicious! I heard the server recommend the egg foo young sandwich to another table. On my list for next time! Don't forget to go to the bakery at the back to pick up treats. I stopped in right when they opened for breakfast. I ordered Eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The hollandaise sauce was very good with a strong lemon flavor (the way I like it). So, very minor items that could be improved upon include: muffins could have been toasted longer to hold up to the sauce and eggs. The very thinly sliced ham was probably presliced from a store? During my recent travels to Southern Michigan, my friends and I stopped at a quaint little roadside eatery named Jackie's Cafe. I t is located on the Red Arrow Highway (801 West Red Arrow Highway), in New Buffalo Michigan. We quickly realized that this was no ordinary cafe. The owner, was none other than Jackie of the renowned restaurant JACKIE'S, a swanky four star bistro in the Lincoln Park area. She has been a famous chef in Chicago land for many years and has now opened this adorable cafe in Michigan. All of us had crispy, cold salads topped with ample amounts of perfectly grilled chicken and shrimp. To drink we all had a delicious blackberry tea, which was wonderfully fruity. And for dessert we sampled several sublime chocolate and local fruit delicacies. We also had the privilege of meeting Jackie personally, as she came out to welcome us. Disappointing brunch experience at Jackie's. After Nani's closed for the season (we're counting down until they reopen in spring!) we were looking for a fun brunch option. We won't be back...as others have mentioned, the prices are Chicago level but the ambiance, portion size, and quality of food were not. $4 OJ tasted like Minute Maid, $3 coffee was the truck stop brown/orange pot variety. Crepe filling was tasty but the crepe was undercooked. Muffin was super dry (again...missing Nani's!!). Bacon side was 3 pieces that looked like they had been cooked a few hours before. $6 for a side of bacon?!? As a simple, cheap diner we'd forgive the food and ambiance shortcomings. But not for so these prices (particularly for the extras like sides and drinks). I think Jackie needs to decide if she's a New Buffalo diner or a city grade brunch destination. read more

I let them know how unappetizing this was, they took them away and seconds later I saw them served to another table, ew. Even ice waters served at beginning had only a few ice cubes melted to almost nothing, making me think they were laying around. Duc tape on edges of table, come on. Butter was so hard it would not spread on the toast, which tasted like cardboard, and they served one small pad for two pieces of toast. Service was ok, definitely not upbeat. Waitress made snide comment when my elderly father in law ordered the #11, he got confused by the price, she had no people skills. I ate here last year twice when it was The Grateful Diner, will never be back again. Oh yeah, the half a strawberry they served with our breakfast was mushy and rotten. read more

We stopped in here for breakfast on the way back home to the suburbs of Chicago. Jackie's has some of the best tasting freshest food I've ever had. Definitely some unique flavors and it tastes like she really care about what is put into the food. My omelette was wonderful and the fresh Lemon Curd is amazing! The cafe is small and could be a bit more comfortable, but the staff is friendly and everything moves quickly. Jackie herself cooks and delivered the food to our table. She is a super nice lady to talk to and very passionate about her food. The prices are higher than other breakfast eateries, but well worth it in flavor and value. The menu is small but has interesting international gourmet type dishes like a chicken schnitzel sandwich and the very Parisian croque monsieur.
