I've heard so much about the blueberry French toast, just had to try. It certainly did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. Served with fresh fruit and real maple syrup. Service was excellent. It was a perfect Sunday morning so we choose to eat outside and were entertained by the bluebird working hard to feed her young in one of the many bird houses. Extremely disappointed. Way over priced, super small portions (Jackie, a "fruit cup" should be more than HALF of a strawberry and an inch of pineapple) but it was fast. Ridiculously fast. As in frozen to your table in under 5 minutes. If I wanted crappy food quickly I'd rather go to McDonalds where I wouldn't pay exorbitant prices for it! Won't go back for SURE! read more

I've known Jackie for about 30 years. Her wonderful restaurant was a block away when I lived on Altgeld in Chicago. We were also neighbors and friends. We went there often and we gave a dinner there as a "gift" to many friends and family members. I usually got the filet of sole with a bearnaise sauce. One day she only had one customer for lunch and she told me this man had the bluest eyes she'd ever seen and it was Robert Redford. She had him autograph a menu which was later auctioned off at a charity event! read more

We continue to have breakfast at Jackie's just about every time we are in New Buffalo, and it continues to be excellent every time. This review is about the catering. We were having a group of about 25 at our New Buffalo home for the day (brunch through dinner) and decided that we would use Jackie for catering some of the items that we were serving. Jackies has been open for nine months, and is still getting established. It's breakfast and lunch only. The decor is Spartan. But, here's the thing: "Jackie" is Jackie Chen, who spent 29 years in the Chicago area at such places as Le Francais and Red Lantern. After a visit to New Buffalo two years ago, she fell in love with the area and decided it was time to"find her joy." Our party of four all enjoyed our breakfasts: I went with the Eggs Benito, served on cornbread (although it was more like polenta) instead of English muffin. We wandered in here after visiting the cool new Galien River County Park. So we were wind blown and trail worn, came in right near closing time...not greeted with the warmest of welcomes. But they served us...The food was great! My companion enjoyed the 'not so plain turkey sandwich' and I had the 'Emperor Burger' with an egg on it. A trend on all the cooking shows, I thought I'd try it. I didn't appreciate it much - the burger itself would have been good enough for me. The little sides really made the meal - fresh potato salad and pickled vegetables-they were awesome! You could tell the breads were fresh and homemade...the desserts look and sound delicious but we were too full to try them, might come back for that... The decor is bright and cheerful. While they boast fresh, local ingredients - I think fresh, local patrons are not their targeted audience. Too bad, regular locals could make or break a place like this. read more

What a wonderful place! They were busy on a Sunday morning, but the service was great - in part because the chef, Jackie, kept things in check out front, too. The coffee was delicious, and at least one in our party was glad they had Diet Coke for breakfast. Between us, we tried the frittata (with green salad), the angry Cubano, waffles, and a few other entrees. Everything was delicious!! The lemon curd was so good that we brought some to bring home. We sat inside, but the outdoor seating looked nice too. So glad we found this gem - another great find thanks to Yelp! read more

Ordered carry-out breakfast for a group of 10 people. Jackie was awesome, very friendly and efficient. She packaged everything up in trays for us, which made serving ourselves at home very easy, and called us when it was ready so we would receive it piping hot. Best brunch spot! My husband and I discovered Jackie's about a month ago and have been back three times since. Every single item on this menu is incredibly delicious. Definitely overpriced for what you get! I had the Parmesan crusted chicken Caesar salad ... While the chicken was tasty, I didn't taste any Parmesan. My husband got an omelette that was $11!! We probably wouldn't go back. If the prices were more reasonable we would give it another try!! read more

There's good and bad here. Unfortunately, for me it's more bad than good. We sat down, it took 25 min for the waitress to take our order. Meanwhile other patrons got sat and their orders taken. A MUST if you're looking for breakfast! My husband and I came into Jackie's on Mother's day and had an amazing experience. I had the seasonal quiche: sundried tomatoes, ham, broccoli and swiss cheese. The crust was flaky and the flavor was outstanding. It also came with about 1.5 cups of spinach salad with a light oil vinaigrette and I can't tell you how perfect this was with the quiche. I ate every morsel on my plate. I also ordered a small fruit cup and the fruit was so fresh and sweet. My husband had a scrambler with Dries bacon, onion and pepper jack cheese which came with hashbrowns and multigrain toast. Everything he has was amazing too. Clean plate club for him as well! Finally, we went around back to visit the bakery. O.m.g. we ended up taking home a lemon curd shortbread, blueberry bar and chocolate cookie. This is some of the best food I've eaten in a long time. We loved meeting the chef herself, Jackie and thanking her personally for such a lovely start to our day. If you haven't been here you must visit. They have a nice patio area too for warmer weather days. read more

My husband and I tried this spot for breakfast. We were not at all disappointed! He had the "Benito" -- flavorful jalapeño cornbread & a nicely poached egg with very good Benedict sauce left him happy! I ordered the seasonal frittata... It was delish! Fresh asparagus & ricotta cheese were cooked perfectly. We also tried the homemade preserves. I'm not a big fan of preserves but these were incredible. The coffee was tasty, service was good. Came here with a group of 13 others. They were very accommodating. The space was small but cozy. They had a variety of options that were gluten free which were great. I was meeting three friends for lunch, and the place we had planned to go to was closed, so we ended up at Jackie's Cafe. The building and interior appear rather humble, but the food was quite wonderful. Three of us had the quiche which was, obviously, homemade with quality ingredients. The other had the crepe which she enjoyed. All were accompanied by a side spinach salad and a couple of pieces of fruit. The staff was attentive and kept our coffee cups refilled. A wonderful place for breakfast or lunch. Chef Jackie was a high-end chef in Chicago, Chinese-French fusion. I had a panko- crusted chicken breast with tomato sauce that had the table talking hours later. The main space is charming, but the patio is definitely the place to be when the weather's nice. After lunch, I'd suggest walking around back to Jackie's Back Door. That's her bakery. The lemon curd shortbread cookies are fabulous; well, anything with her lemon curd is excellent. Local fruit cobbler, pound cake with blueberries, all outstanding. The chocolate chip cookie was OK, but couldn't compare to the rest of her line-up. If you go to the Back Door you'll probably also meet Chef Jackie herself. How many top chefs can you get to meet and talk to? The final plus is that it's outside the crush of downtown New Buffalo, so you can usually find a seat on the weekend. Definitely drop by if you're in the area. read more

Great little find in New Buffalo. We truly enjoy having breakfast at Jackie's when we visit New Buffalo. Not a huge menu but there is a good variety of items. Must visit their take out bakery in the back and pick up some of Jackie's homemade cherry preserves that they have on the tables. read more

First I just wanted to state that I am a full time New Buffalo resident, so I am not some random chicago person. When my family and I walked into the cafe we were not greeted with a smile instead the waitress then sat us and tossed the menus on the table. We were then greeted by our waiter who never introduced himself, just weird. When we ordered our food we thought this would be amazing... It was not. We ran out of coffee and water and yet no one in the entire place refilled our drinks, we were only greeted 3 times in the hour in half we were in there. When we finally got our food we were glad to see everything was right. I would not say the food is terrible but it definitely is mediocre. One tip as well do not get toast! the butter came out frozen and I am not kidding... We heard three other tables ask for warmed up butter. They seemed so stressed out for only having two tables inside and a couple outside, maybe it's time to hire a bus boy or a hostess. We also waited with empty plates on the table for ten minutes, all we wanted was our bill.. Anyway the service sucks and we will never return unless they work on the guest service aspect of the restaurant! read more

The food here is excellent and worth the price. We have had brunch here twice and loved everything. The eggs benedict is outstanding, as is the fritata. I have a few suggestions. It's a little warm in the dining room.. Turn down the a/c. Please offer plain ice tea. Turn on some music and hang some plants. We will definitely go back for lunch sometime soon! read more

I know this is an item on many breakfast menu's, but the eggs were fresh and the ham was perfect. My wife and I were traveling home to Iowa City from visiting family in Michigan, and stopped at Jackie's Cafe for breakfast. We loved everything about our visit. We each had a gluten-free crepe with coffee. The crepe (it was hard to believe it was gluten-free) had a wonderful balance of flavors, and the coffee was delicious.
