Great location, nice decor with inside and outdoor dining being offered. Seemed like a great place to drop into for a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately, the service at this restaurant isn't all that great. My husband and I sat at an outside table on a Wednesday night, and it took 15 minutes for the server to notice that we were there. Once she took our food order, it took another 30 minutes for our food to arrive -- and that's when we notice that the waitress got our order wrong. UGH! We told the waitress we ordered Chicken Wraps and not Chicken Club Sandwiches -- but we decided to eat the sandwiches that she delivered because we didn't want to wait another half an hour for our food. She apologized, we accepted her apology but as you could imagine, we were still disappointed. During our meal, we notice another couple walking out complaining to the Hostess that after 20 minutes... no waitress had ever stopped by to take their order. Not good. My husband and I said "We'll never eat here again." The manager really needs to get a handle on what's going on with the help. Customer Service at restaurants should be a managers' Number 1 priority. If not, "Jack on the Tracks" won't survive -- or -- it won't be here a few years from now. read more

I can not believe this!!!! Nobody has rated Jacks???? Tisk Tisk LOL!! This was the first place I ever had a screwdriver and they still fresh squeeze the orange juice!! I had a wonderful steak and scallop dinner and it was superb!! Crackers and port wine cheese while waiting for dinner. Great Salad and main course. This place has improved ten fold over the years. Pretty dumpy joint but a nice burger to be had here. Their claim to fame is their screwdrivers are made with fresh squeezed orange juice. Truth be known Tropicana does a better job. Well I've been here 3 times since the place opened and I think last night will be my last trip. As great a job they did with the renovations the place has not an ounce of the warmth of the Original. The help tries but they're in dire need of training. They are personable but we had to signal our server more than once to get drinks refilled. My friend ordered the perogies they came to the table as she started to eat them she realized they weren't completely cooked and felt slimy in her mouth. When I told the server that she was in the ladies room puking .she went to the kitchen and came back to tell us the chef said well they're boiled not fried, like that is supposed to make them acceptable. My friend didn't have a chance to respond as she was in the ladies room for a second round of vomiting. I have no Idea who the managers are but they haven't a clue what's going on in the place. It was 8 PM when we arrived and the place was pretty much full but once the music stared it cleared out soon after the band started to perform. The PA system was setup completely wrong and at times the woman's voice came out practically as screaches on certain notes. All because of no supervision of the set up. It's been this way since they opened. I don't see it getting any better. Bad once, shame on the place second trip Shame on the managers, 3rd trip Shame on me for making another trip in hopes it would be a better experience. Dissatisfied 3 times you're out!!!! Somewhat of a dive bar near the shore. We found this place while looking for an Italian restaurant that was close by. It was closed so we decided to go in and have a drink or two. Place was nice, big square shaped bar with quite a few patrons that night. They had a good selection of draft beers. The bartender was OK at best. Friendly but a bit standoff-ish too. We're locals and we're excited to finally be able to sit down for dinner since their opening. Friday night in July, headed in around 515. HUGE bar area inside. Unfortunately the bottled beer arrived warm. On a Friday night? Really. Server stated there's an issue with the cooler. OK. Iced tea for me then. Pierogi appetizer had a weird out of the bottle squirt of sour cream all across them. And when I say "them". There was FOUR pierogi....for $12. Okkkkk. While it tasted good it's very pricey for something obviously not homemade. Buffalo wings were barely warm. Tasted as if they were fried earlier in the day then reheated once ordered. Horrible. We shared the cheesesteak sandwich. There was about 2oz of meat and about 12 oz of bread. HORRIBLE again. By the time we left at 630 there were a lot of tables still empty. Guess most people know what we just found out. Get it right Jacks. You have a prime location, our server was pleasant and a beautiful new place...the food is horrible and if you can't get that right, you won't stay alive in the off season. read more

Had an outstanding experience at Jack's on a Sunday afternoon. Kathleen Elle performed and put on a tremendous show. Was planning on keeping this place to myself but decided that I needed to share so others can enjoy. Arizona/Jupiter vibe, very open and airy. We'll equipped bar with something for everyone. Service was solid and the menu was well crafted and had enough variety to satisfy all eaters. Highly recommend Jack's. They have a bright future in Belmar for sure! read more

The food was good. The place was a little dirty and in need of an update. The main reason I'm giving such a low rating is due to our waitress. She was extreamly rude legitimately huffed and puffed when i asked where the bathroom was and when we needed more napkins after our nachos. She stood over my friend waiting for her to using her napkin ( using to clean a stain off her shirt) and said "Im waiting fornher to finish" we did tip her but she did not deserve it! Ps. We were seriously skeptical about this place once we walked in- but the food was great and awesome prices! My daughter made a mess on our table knocking over water. As a long term Belmar resident it was very disappointing to me that as a family with a disabled member I was unable to order take out. We like to give business to our local community but we were met with impatience and rudeness over the phone. After I explained our situation we were still told we could not order food. This is such a disappointment and frankly I feel discriminated against by not having services for those with disabilities. read more

So my dinner of Friday night truly , deserves a ranting post. We met some close friends at the restaurant . My first clue should have been that we had to keep waiving our hands above our heads for service, had other servers who were helping us out since our server was so slow and it took for ever for dinner et . The food was passable, the drinks ran slowly and when the bill came it was $200 for 4 people. Not unlike everyone else in the world, I work extremely hard for my money but always tip at least 20% and often 30% since I was taught the old adage to tip well and they will remember you next time for service . Accidentally I put down 14$ and the waitress brought the bill back to me and loudly said " are you serious?" In this case I quickly adjusted it for "Cindy to $34" which quite honestly would have been $40 or $50 had she handled it differently. The terrible service coupled with the highly inappropriate behavior as reminded me why we never frequent this place any more. I hate to leave bad reviews because I know how much they can impact a business... But unfortunately this review will not be a positive one. We visited this establishment about two years ago and to this day I still have discussed that night at Jacks Tavern with many people, it was just bad. So we chose this restaurant because I wanted to sit outside and eat somewhere that had some fresh seafood, I was dressed up, visiting the shore, and my husband and I just wanted to find somewhere to eat some delicious food and have some drinks while enjoying the gorgeous weather. We drove around for a while looking for what seemed like a great spot. We pulled up to Jacks and had a glance at their menu and thought it looked like a good place. The outdoor seating was really nice and charming so we decided to try it. It was a Friday night and they were slow, but it was pretty early so we thought maybe we beat the rush. Our server approached us and seemed to care less that we were there. We ordered two beers only to see him standing and talking to the hostess 10 min later while we waited on our drinks. He finally realized he had forgotten our beers when he noticed us staring at him from outside. When he came back to our table I kid you not he was high as a kite. He was making no sense and laughing ridiculously at nothing. We finally placed our order for soft shell crab and my husband got a steak. My soft shell crab was drenched with thick lemon sauce and was so disgusting I could barely touch it. It literally was the grossest thing I've seen. But what was worse was that my husband's steak tasted BAD, as in rotten bad. Our mashed potatoes were cold too so we sent all of our food back. The saddest part about the whole night (other than wasting three hours of our time) was the woman who was managing the restaurant seemed helpless and sad. She stood there and looked around as her staff did whatever they wanted and could give a crap about the customers. She clearly has no control over how bad of a restaurant her business has become because it seemed as though us returning our food was a common thing. She did not seem eager to please us, eager to lead her terrible slacking pot-smoking teen staff, and she seemed like she wanted to hide in the corner. Jacks is definitely a good candidate for Kitchen Nightmares. By the taste and quality of their food, I don't want to even think about what their walk-in looks like. Sad sad restaurant. This used to be a good place... about 20 years ago. Now its a poorly run, "locals only" kind of establishment known for bartenders with piss-off attitudes, 60's decor and more recently beer taps that either don't work or pour flat beer. I will say if you want a good screwdriver though this is the place as the OJ is fresh squeezed. As far as the food goes it depends on your own standards so although you might get a good meal, don't be surprised if you don't - I stopped eating here long ago after a couple bad experiences. That and the fact that there are plenty of better restaurants within a 10 minute drive. Jacks seems to have more than its share of patrons still trying to relive the place's glory days because with this level of quality they certainly can't be winning over any new/repeat customers. But I suppose if you were a local and wanted to go see familiar faces, this is probably the place. read more

You feel like you traveled back to the 70's when you go in here which I can't really decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing. The food was actually quite good for the price . Came on a Saturday night in December. They had the fireplace lit and it was nice and cozy in the dining room. A band started playing so the over all vibe was fun. Food was good and portions were generous. Our server was Alli and she was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely give Jack's a try. I hate to leave one star reviews, however, if any place deserves it, it's this place. The food was not great, especially considering the long wait to get it. It started with the salad, which consisted of browning mixed greens, some shaved carrots and a couple of croutons. The browning of the lettuce turned me off fairly quickly as scenes from Bar Rescue flashed through my mind... (you know the ones where the kitchens have to be shut down because they are so filthy). The entrees were no surprise after the brown lettuce, however, after waiting almost an hour to actually get our dinner, I was hoping for something a little better than what was brought out. Moving on to the service: Here's the thing, most people that dine out often can tell you that even with subpar food, a friendly waitress can make all the difference. We, unfortunatly, did not experience this at Jack's either. The waitress who "helped," and I use that term extremely loosely, us should not EVER have a job in which she has to work face to face with the public. I would love to add her name to this review but can't as she never even introduced herself. Mind you, when we arrived, we were her only table and only two other tables came in while we were there (this should have been our first clue this place was goung to be terrible). It wasn't like she was so busy that she didn't have time to be polite, or at the very least, not a complete bitch who seemed irritated and annoyed that we, customers, even existed. She is quite possibly the worst wait person I have ever encountered. She was rude, gruff, a bit of a bully and did Not seem to care one bit if we needed anything or if we had any issues with the food as she did not ask. Not once during our almost 2 hour experience did she come over and ask how things were. When asked for salt she huffed and managed to muffle out a "yeah" through her clenched teeth. At some point she sent the busboy to come and check on us. He offered the 2 teens at our table a refill on soda, to which they said sure. The waitress never mentioned that refills of soda are apparently not free as I was billed for 5 sodas and there were only three of us (over $11.00 for sodas for 3 people). She became even more irritated when I asked for our check and told her that our check would be split with me paying for myself and the two teens and the other two adults at the table would be on a separate check. Mind you, she had not asked how, or if, the check would be split but was vocal about how we should habe told her that. I understand that sometimes this can be overlooked at the beginning of the meal, however, if it was going to be such a huge deal for YOU , the waitress, to change it, you, the person who is familiar with your system, should have asked before creating the check. She then brings my check out, only mine, not the other party. I give my card after taking mental note of the 11.00 drink charge (again, all for soda). She then asks the other party for their cc without having brought them their bill. They just take their card and go inside with her. She comes back with my receipts and I notice my card is not on the plastic card holder, it's not on there. Instead she is holding it in her hand. When I ask for my card, she says she needs me to sign the slip. I get out my wallet as a gesture that I won't be signing anything until I get my card (I have accidentally left my card at restaurants in the past). She reluctantly returns it to me and then stands over me as I fill out the tip and sign the cc slip. Then, she goes on a rampage when the tip I left her was not to her liking. Not only does she complain to me about the amount of the tip but she also catches the other party, who is also my Mom, coming out of the bathroom and complained to her about the tip I left. My mom, as politely as possible explained to her that her attitude and hate for her job was not lost on us, the customers. I read another review on here about a similar incident. On that occasion the patron revised his tip. I am guessing she thought by causing a scene and acting like a bully, that I would cave and just give her more. It did not work and in fact, makes me want to leave her nothing. As I lay here, writing this review, my stomach is churning and grumbling, I hope it isn't food poisoning but certainly wouldn't be surprised. The ONE and ONLY good thing about this place was the busboy. He was polite and friendly. The owner should seriously consider moving that grumpy old "C, yoU, Next, Tuesday," to the back of the house and upgrading the busboy to a waiter. That lady (older, heavyset, blondish hair, with the snarl and resting bitch face) has no business being a waitress or working with the public. I will be monitoring my bank account and if one penny is different from what I authorized, I will file formal complaints with the police dept. and my bank. read more

Terrible experience. Went to Jack's, which I have done several times a year as a local resident, to watch a great band and have a few drinks with some friends. I ran a tab, for which the establishment requires the bartender to hold the card until the end of the night. Many establishments have gotten away from this practice, but the ones that haven't usually keep close track of your card and get a signature when you close. Well come midnight I decide to go home with some friends. Go to close my tab and I am informed by the bartender that my card has been given to someone else. Don't worry, the person is local and we will get them on the phone. OK. So I begin to wait outside the front of the bar so as not to pollute the environment of folks having a good time. Quietly outside alone contemplating how much hassle this will ultimately be. I am then approached by who I found out later was the owner "Mike." [Jack must be who opened the place, probably a better business man]. He proceeds to ask me, "what I want him to do," and obviously just wanted me to leave. He then ganged up on me, involving other patrons who were obviously regulars saying "we know the woman who has your card don't worry." "So, you gave my card to a woman, no signature, doesn't look much like a Joseph" This is what I asked Mike. He proceeds to belittle my question by saying "no one gets signatures of looks at the signature line." I run a business, I disagree. His entire tone and demeanor came across like I was being pest and he wanted me to leave. I was simply trying to hang around in case they got this person on the phone Mike then told me he would "do whatever it took." He said he would drive the card to me at home, or work the next morning, he would call me early, he gave a business card with his name on it. I left my name and number with two different employees. I was assured they would get on this and contact me either that night or early in the morning. As I type this review, all of those promises were of course lies, which I suspected as I was hearing them. It is now mid afternoon on Saturday and I have already taken time out of my work day to get a new card, and now have to call all the various entities who bill me on that card and make the adjustment. Hours of my time wasted, not a single ounce of effort put forth or sleep lost by the owner of this business. Several calls to the number Mike provided have been ignored. I understand that a business of this type in Belmar is bulletproof: Jack's Tavern and Mike can screw 10 more guys like me and never feel it. Mike knows that also, which explains his indifferent attitude to my understandable frustration and his complete lack of empathy for the situation he put me in. Thanks for nothing Mike. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would we had one of the worst waitress I've ever had in my life who we were told is the boss's sister. There was a hair in the onion rings which she just took back and my mother in law ordered a 20 dollar steak medium and when she got it it was just about raw. Everyone else in the restaurant was embarrassed by our waitresses actions. It was ridiculous. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Don't come here. read more

The server was very nice but the entire process was very slow. 20 minutes to get my first drink and another 40 minutes to get an entree although it didn't appear to be busy at all. We live the next town over and just noticed this place. So I checked the reviews on Yelp and they were good. When we walked in we were a little unsure because you walk right into the bar and we wanted to sit and eat. If you go to the left though there is a little restaurant that was out dated but nice. They have a really nice fireplace (wish they had a fire going). Anyhow , my husband ordered the clam bisque and I tried his, it was so good I had to order my own. I just ordered an app. For my dinner and that was plenty. ( artichoke franchise). It was really good and full of flavour. My husband ordered a steak and really enjoyed it. Jack's used to be a good place 20 years ago, so hubby and I decided to give it a try for old times' sake today after we left the beach. We sat at a table outside since it was a nice day. After perusing the lackluster lunch menu, which consisted of mostly fried food, and watching the bus girl repeatedly dropping glasses and manhandling the tines of our forks (eew!), we should have left but that would have meant looking for a new parking spot, so we decided to go with omelettes off the Sunday brunch menu, thinking this might be the safest bet. I ordered a broccoli and cheddar omelette with ham on the side, and a side of home fries. The omelette arrived smothered in what looked like melted Cheese Whiz. The home fries were cold and had absolutely no flavor except of old potatoes. The side of ham was slices of boiled deli ham which had been lightly grilled. That's a new one on me! A cocktail was supposed to be included in the brunch price, but we chose to get ice teas instead and had to argue with the waitress to get her to take them off our bill. (Honestly, doesn't a cocktail cost more than tea??) Also, I need to mention that our waitress's clothes were noticeably dirty. This is the worst restaurant meal I can ever remember!!! Couldn't wait for it to be over so I could go home and eat!! After reading other recent reviews and my experience today, I cannot imagine how this place stays in business!!! read more

One of my favorite lunch spots and I can't lie convenience was a major reason being that it's right next store to my offices, however I love this place! The food is always delicious, the drinks are quite large and do the trick, and the waitstaff is extremely courteous and responsible. I must admit they have probably one of the largest Nutcracker collections I have ever seen. Unfortunately you can only witness this during Christmas time. They don't really want you in here if you're not from the immediate few-mile radius. Jack's Tavern has an old school feel. The waitresses are a friendly bunch. The food is very good. I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich with French fries. My wife ordered a pastrami sandwich. Both were delicious! Big portions and not expensive. We were there for lunch but there seemed to be a good sized crowd at the bar (ala Cheers), locals all laughing and having a good time. They advertise a 'fresh-squeezed' screwdriver which I'll have to try next time. If you are down the Shore, and are hungry, I suggest you stop by Jack's Tavern! read more

We waited and waited and the server threw menus on our table. We went to tell our order and he barked as he threw his hands up....."Give me at least 10 minutes." I realize he had a 10 top , and 2 deuces however it is the summer time. Servers cost $ 2.13 an hour and while waiting , we witnessed a family of 5 leave and a group of 4 also leave.
