Tried this place for the very first time and it was just ok. We ordered the french toast, chicken fried steak, fish sandwich, chicken parm sandwich and the food was just meh. The prices are comparable to a Denny's or IHOP but some prices are more $ than those places so I give them a 3 stars for food as it was average but took a star for having higher prices. The average price for a plate here range from $15-$19. Service was good, waitress was attentive. Can't recommend it, nothing special here other than nostalgia as it's been around since 1933. read more

I've been coming to Jacks 20+ years and the food has always been very yummy. The place has been a Whittier go to spot forever and I don't think the building as ever changed. I love it! The dinner specials change everyday but they alway come with soup and or salad plus a desert & is very affordable. The staff has always been extremely friendly! Service is excellent. Always happy and smiling servers! Such a great menu. So many choices no matter what your in the mood for Jacks has something for you. Unfortunately our last visit was less than satisfactory. Sea food platter was not great. The scallops were fishy tasting, but the shrimp and fish were tasty. The rice?? The cooks first time cooking rice? Maybe. The turkey melt was cold and the turkey was thick sliced and dry. We will go again because previous visits were much better. A classic that has degraded over the years. Some of the servers are cold and rude. Seems they throttle the coffee refills, perhaps to clear a seat for the next guy. Got pancakes that were undercooked and still wet in the center. Eggs overcooked. read more

Jacks is such a great diner! First off they open at 6am. That's amazing for us early birds. The ambience, the music and cleanliness are superb. We have been coming early mornings the past week and had some really great severs ! Our drinks always stay full, the food comes out in record time and is piping hot! The taste is great, classic breakfast and great flavors. Their pancakes are fluffy, the butter is salty (which I love), and syrup sweet! But I went in on a Sunday afternoon-it was crazy busy- I called ahead to reserve a spot for 4 people, they said okay I have your name down. I show up with my guests, no name was taken...I said okay that's fine, please add me. Okay about an hour. No problem. Hour and fifteen minutes pass. I ask them for a length of time on the wait. They ask me my name, I said I already checked in an hour ago. They show me the list and my name is crossed out wrote-"not here" Never once did they call my name. As I spoke to the manager, they said hey man were busy and your going to have to wait to be seated. I said that's not an issue, but are we going to be seated soon. He says no, it'll be about an hour. This place is overall great to go for some lunch or dinner. Can't say anything about breakfast since I don't go out for that but it is definitely a great place. The bowl of chili is the absolute best here. The shakes here are also pretty good but fluctuate a bit. Depending on the waiter/waitress. It can be the best you've ever had or be overall a bit disappointing. That is the only reason this place isn't a 5 star. The pies are good as well from what I have tried. Our first time ever coming to this infamous Jack's in Whittier and I have to say I wish I been here earlier! The place has been around since 1933. That's seriously a gang load of hours. We ordered two cups of coffee which have free refills, just got to ask the waitress when she's coming around with the hot pot of coffee. It's a diner type feel for sure. Ordered an omelette California style but changed the meat to slice turkey meat. Tasted so good with all the ingredients inside. Instead of getting toast we also ordered a side of blueberry hot cakes and man there were some huge blueberries in them. Overall this breakfast was one of my favorites in a long time and I can see why they have plenty of regulars. We talked to a few customers that said they have been coming here for over 30 years and live over 60 miles away! They totally recommended coming here on Wednesday nights for their famous fried chicken dinner. I so want to try this out now. Can't wait to come back. read more

Cute place with classic diner food and good service. I ordered the meat lover's skillet with biscuits and gravy. The meat lover's skillet is a misnomer and should be listed as a vegetarian option. Picking apart the dish I found almost no meat, a few slivers of ham and something that might have been bacon bits? Definitely not fresh bacon. The potatoes on the bottom of the dish were a little slimy. The gravy had a great flavor and consistency however the biscuits left much to be desired. Ate here yesterday for lunch. Disappointed this time with the food. Service at the counter was great though. Thanks for that. Patty Melt was just ok, but the grilled onions were too long and stringy and tasted like plastic. I was worried about chocking on them. Cheese Burger patty was too burnt on the outside. THEN we found a hair in the burger! Yikes! Disgusting! Not sure we'll be back anytime soon. Tried this place again in July 18'. I want to like it but food took over 45 minutes and we sat at the counter. Service was great again, but my French Toast was cold, so cold the soft butter wouldn't melt! And I really don't like hot food. My over medium eggs were great though. Wife's Belgian Waffle was soggy. I say, the waitress was great and took the French Toast off if the bill. That was very nice. The Apfels coffee is good though. Again, I may have to try again because I want to like it. I lobe the old school coffee shop feel. read more
