You know that feeling when a waiter won't look you in the eye when they serve you, and never ask how the food is because they're ashamed to serve it? This is the vibe me and a coworker got when we came to Jamjuree for lunch. I ordered the lime light chicken, and my coworker the garlic chicken. Mine was so weird! No Thai flavors at all, and really unappetizing to look at and eat. And how do you screw up garlic chicken? Who knows, but there was definitely an off taste to it, so my coworker barely ate any, and when asked if we wanted boxes to go, we said no--I think that's a first for me! Maybe their dinner menu is better, but I was very disappointed in their lunch. I've been to Jamjuree twice now in a relatively short time and can say this place delivers good flavor, great value, and is really convenient for a small groups. (The latter is especially helpful if you have the misfortune of your friends liking Coastal Kitchen - you can generally steer them a couple of doors down to Jamjuree without much protest.) The staff at Jamjuree is friendly and attentive, the ingredients fresh and well-prepared, and there are a variety of flavors that keep the food from getting boring and that in a group setting allow everyone to find something that works for their tastes. Re: spicy food: spices are on a scale from 1-4 stars. I have a friend who can tolerate no heat at all - and this is a regular place for him because the kitchen will make "0 stars" dishes that are still quite flavorful. My wife often orders "2 stars" spicy in most Thai restaurants, and she says the spices here add just enough heat to be interesting. If you want your order to be really spicy though, 4 stars doesn't cut it. Fortunately, Jamjuree does an excellent job of accommodating palates that prefer higher heat. I find that asking for "7 stars" does the job nicely. That gets my mouth tingling, my sinus passages cleared, perhaps one or two tears of joy, and yet is still short of nuclear. The combination of flavors at this level is still subtle, as opposed to some restaurants which just dump in a bunch of pepper and hope for the best. A friend and I decided to dine here for lunch today and I am glad I finally got to try the muchly talked about Jamjuree. Ok, so only one person I know bragged about Jamjuree, but he's within 2 blocks from the place, so it was his Thai place by default. I ordered the green curry with chicken and brown rice. I am not usually a fan of brown rice. It always seems I am eating some kind of barley or bird seed mash. However, the waiter almost insisted on the brown rice and I am glad he did. The rice was soft and savory. Not like any brown rice I have experienced. The curry was spicy and savory with chicken. The service was speedy and efficient. This place was great! I met up with some college friends here for dinner. The ambiance here is quite nice. It really just feels kind of soothing, but cool to be here. Everything I tried tasted very good. One of my friends ordered the Massaman curry and I was a little jealous that I didn't get it. It was delicious! The service was very good. We had one of our party get lost of the way here and she was pretty late....however, the waiter kept our drinks coming and didn't give us a hard time at all. When comparing Thai food restaurants in Seattle I think of magicians trying to out do each other. The outcome is always the same but each one will try and wow the audience with their preparation and delivery. Most Thai restaurants are uninspired and share the same tricks. After a while Thai can seem pretty boring. Jamjuree is the Houdini of Thai as it stands out from the undistinguished and dazzles every time. People know the food is going to be good and reliably so but somehow amazement can still be felt with each visit. Those who eat at Jamjuree know what they like and return time and time again to get it. It is the relief that comes from the first bite and knowing that it will come soon when eating at a great place. Try everything though, not just reliable favorites. Jamjuree will do it up right not what they think people want. The food is consistently satisfying, the service is adorable and attentive, plus the prices won't kill the food buzz. Even the culture junkies who crash the place since there is a good mix of regular, down to earth folk who will occupy the seat next to you. I haven't quite figured out the mezuzah fixed conspicuously in the kitchen doorway but I like it. Perhaps the cooks absolutely refuse to work without it. read more

I've been going to Jamjuree for the last two years and this place has consistently good Thai food. A few places in the city may do some specific dishes better, but there are no "landmines" on the Jamjuree menu -- everything is good or great. The rotating specials are a good bet if you're not sure what to pick -- I've never been disappointed. The lighting is pleasant and the decor unoffensive. The wait staff is very quick and helpful. I enjoy eating at the restaurant but also get take-out pretty often. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they just don't make any of their food spicy enough for me. I like my Thai food SUPER hot though, so it may not be a problem for some. That said, it doesn't prevent me from coming here because the food really is excellent. read more

I have to say that I wouldn't necessarily hunt this place down in particular, but for being in the neighborhood it sure served its purpose. The food was good, I had the Pad See You (darn these non-standardized spellings of these dishes!) and was able to taste the Pad Thai as well. Both were OK and hit the spot. I think the tofu may have seen better days, I've had much better but the kidlet actually ate it so that was an amazing feat. They're kid friendly here, which is awesome for me. They brought her out water in a plastic cup with a lid so she didn't spill and that made her a happy camper. The waiter we had was also very nice and quick on the service. The perfect amount of checking on us yet leaving us alone and always making sure our waters were topped off. The seating situation was awkward, but I was appreciative that we were given a seat right away instead of waiting for something that may have accommodated our group more but there really isn't enough room for four people at the freestanding tables. Forget grimy old Broadway. If you're looking for Thai on Capitol Hill, head to Jamjuree. They serve both lunch and dinner, perfectly cooked, sauced, and served. The service is adequate for a laid-back neighborhood place, though you can expect some delays and confusion if it gets busy (and it usually does). That said, the food is so delicious that the spotty service is easily forgiven. To start, share the awesome Chicken Satay or the Thai Special Salad--actually just green beans warmed with peanut sauce--and a Thai Iced Coffee, then move on into a curry or the Oyster Chicken. I've found that things usually run a little on the mild side here, so don't be afraid to ask for hot, hot, hot. For dessert, there's the traditional thai yumminess of a fried banana and ice cream or the equally delicious black sticky rice pudding. Try it out! read more

Tom yum is good. Curries are good. Service is pretty good. Coconut ice cream is really good. I have two major problems with Jamjuree: it gets super busy and they get overwhelmed and can't seem to figure out how to get people seated quickly and they don't make their food spicy enough, even if you ask for 10+ stars. The only exception is soup, since soups generally transmit spice better. Their waiting area is itty bitty and they have these weird lights that get in the way, so if you're squished onto the bench between a few other people, you have a lamp in your back or your face. Some of the tables also have the same lamps coming out of the half-wall which make it hard to see the person you're sitting across from and makes you feel like you're half asleep, but if you get a booth, you should be fine. I mostly like Jamjuree, but I prefer takeout to eating there, especially if it looks busy. read more

I've been to Jamjuree a few times, but today just sucked. Our waiter was too preoccupied with anyone in a suit and tie to pay my wife and I much mind. He came to our table twice. Once to take our order, once to give us our check: one hour and five minutes later. I had to get back to work and was tempted to get up and leave a couple of times. We were lucky to have our first glass of water, no refills were offered. In a way, it's fortunate that the food I ordered spicy wasn't spicy at all, because liquids to douse any heat were few and far between. If you have the patience, the Gra Pow Gai was very good even in its less-than-spicy state. However, I would not recommend coming here during any sort of busy time. read more

Jamjuree, in my opinion, has the BEST yellow curry in Seattle. It is so good and the portion size is large enough that it is EASILY 2-3 meals! I always only get the yellow curry when I go, just because I know it's so good and addictive, but I have been here many times with friends and have never heard any complaints from anyone. My boyfriend and I took his parents here when they were visiting from out of town, and his father is definitely a white-wonder-bread kind of man. He was pretty afraid when we suggested going out to Thai for dinner (he's very meat-and-potatoes-let's go eat breakfast at IHOP and dinner at Applebees kind of guy), but even HE really liked his dinner! The main thing holding me back from giving this place more than 3 stars is the sweetness of their dishes. Granted, my mom is the one that hates it when her Thai food tastes like candy, but this place is a little bit much even for me. Aside from the too much sugar thing, the flavours are quite good and they have a solid menu. The curries have a nice creamy texture that tells me how well it'll lubricate my arteries. They also haven't overcooked their meat in the dishes that I've ordered, which is a plus. Biggest upside to this place? The portions are huge. One dish seems to serve two. A better than expected Thai restaurant with pleasant service. Granted that servers at this place are very eager to take your plate away but our waiter was nice. He overheard that we were there for a birthday celebration and gave the birthday girl complimentary coconut ice cream. =) Between the three of us we tried the roti, pumpkin red curry, and the seafood pad see ew. Everything was slightly different than how I am used to these dishes but they were good. The roti is very different from the ones from Malay Satay Hut. The yellow curry was more watery and has fewer potatoes but good nevertheless. The pumpkin red curry is also very light and not starchy, but overall it was very flavorful. Two stars of spiciness was just right for my American tongue. The pad see ew is sweeter than most places but there were quite a bit of seafood and was quite tasty. Also notable is that their brown rice is quite good even to people who only like white rice...=P I don't know if this is the "best Thai food in Seattle" but for the clean environment and the tasty dishes, I would say it's a safe bet for decent Thai food. read more

I've been a customer of Jamjuree for over ten years, and I've never received such bad service as I did today. I went in to order takeout, paid, was told "15 minutes," and had a seat. 20 minutes later, I ask how long it'll be, and I'm told "15 minutes." Forget that. I tell the person at the counter that if they'd just told me it would be 30 minutes from the start that I would've just left, and that I wanted a refund. The person at the counter frantically started trying to solve this crisis, and then, a few seconds later, my order(?) suddenly appeared. I wonder who was deprived of their order so that I could get mine? This might be a one-off issue, or it might not. Either way, I'm very sad to say that I'm done with them. read more

The sauce was nothing special, pretty much your standard cheap corn syrup Entree 1: Tofu / Veggie noodle dish in a hot pot. Tolerable but I didn't want to finish it or take the leftovers home. Although I went in for take-out, I thought the place looked very nice. I'd come dine in here sometime or sit at the bar. The service was really friendly and professional. I ordered the Rama noodle and it was good quality and tasty. I didn't order until I got there but didn't have to wait very long (I read two newspaper articles). I think the peanut sauce could have been a little more "peanuty" but overall I was really happy with the meal. The price for an entree is definitely reasonable, but start adding on appetizers and some tasty coffee or tea then it's more mid-priced or so, but worth it. How I heard of this place: While I'm confident I have heard of Jamjuree before, and may have even sampled the Thai cuisine in this north Capital Hill establishment in the past, this trip was recommended by my friend Tahirih on a whim and a craving for red curry. Type of cuisine: Thai cuisine. Thai food prepared with slightly less kick for the American palate. Ambiance: Dark interior furnishings in an open space with chairs and tables to both sides of the entrance hall. A small bar is also available as seating for the lone diner. Minimal ornate Thai decorations grace the space. It is comfortable and family friendly. What I ordered: Having had dinner just two hours prior to meeting up with my friend, I opted for the seasonal special white sticky rice with fresh mango ($6.50) and dusted with sesame seeds. My dining companion started with a Thai iced tea ($2.50) and an order of the spring rolls ($6.50) - crispy stuffed vegetable rolls served with sweet & sour sauce. For her main course, my dining companion ordered the Plik King ($8.25) - tofu with red curry paste, green beans, basil, and lime leaves and a side of red rice. What I loved: Most of all, in the bites I sampled, the favorite was the red curry stir-fry with fresh, crisp green beans and steamed tofu. My dining companion was very pleasantly surprised by the delicious sweet sticky rice. Both of us were blown away the perfectly ripe, gorgeous, succulent, pre-sliced mango! Everything I had from here so far has been pretty good. If you frequent Thai restaurants, you won't really find anything out of ordinary on the menu. But some items do have a bit of twist to it, which I like. I especially like the light lime chicken and the fish cakes. This place faintly smells of a bathroom that was just used and the person that had used it sprayed air freshener to try to disguise the mess they left behind. Not really a great smell to be introduced to when walking into a restaurant. When I went to the bathroom it smelled better in there than the rest of the place. Weird. This has become my neighborhood go-to Thai spot - and based on how crowded it always is it's likely quite a few others spot too. The dishes are consistently good and the staff is always friendly. Few fan favorites: fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce (I literally get these as a meal themselves sometimes), kao soi, and panang curry. Most of their curries are solid go-to's in my opinion. I will say their version of Pad Thai is a little unique and not my favorite - it comes wrapped in an egg omelet and almost is too sweet with like an onion jam for flavoring so if that is your favorite Thai dish consider yourself warned. read more

Just arrived to Seattle and instantly had plans with long-time friends. Wanted to reconnect and found this place not too far from home base. Instantly greeted by the hostess and seated in our own private nook. Bonus! When it gets busy, it gets a tad noisy so the table by itself was a treat. The service was fast and very efficient. More business than friendly, but it didn't bother me since I was too focused on my company. The food was a nice sized portion. I ordered my staple, Pad Thai. Pretty good. I wasn't too greasy like some other reviews mentioned and it was on the sweet side. What I really enjoyed was the sauce condiments! They bring you 3: regular garlic chili, one similar to Siracha, and my favorite, one chili with more smokey flavor (like chipotle). Get yourself a hot green tea while you're at it! Yikes, this was a huge disappointment. We'd gone here a a number of times pre-pandemic, and it was 'decent' Thai; probably Americanized, but still things at least had flavor. Went today and it was very bland. I ordered a four star dish, which should be hot, and it was only mild - two stars, maybe. Wife got a two star dish which was literally zero, didn't see any chili flakes at all. Also very bland, no fish sauce or tamarind flavor. I had better thai food but does that mean you should stay away from jamjuree? definitely not. As far as Seattle goes, I definitely think Jamjuree ranks in the top taste-wise. We went for: - beef panang (basil leaves and bell peppers in thick-red coconut milk curry), - pork showering tamarind (onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, cashew nuts in chili paste and tasty tamarind-fish sauce) - spicy chicken noodle (Pan-fried thick rice noodles with basil leaves, bell peppers carrots, mushrooms, baby corn, and wine) Best dish was the beef panang which was delicious! It was rich and flavorful. The pork showering tamarind was also really good (maybe a bit too much cashews but the flavor was there). It is served family style just like most Thai places. I had plenty of food for leftovers even after two people had eaten it.
