This was absolutely a terrible experience for me and my family. They treated us like we were some sort of disease and they wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible. Under the new name of Volcano Sushi Buffet. The cooked food and sushi were good. What turned my stomach is the institution sized ice cream drums with a shared ice cream scoop in dirty water. The caked water faucet next to the freezer was dirty as were the utensils for the ice cream. We even saw a small child lick his fingers in the chocolate ice cream container. I was sad when the Jumbo Buffet on Ashland closed down. I have found my replacement. I never know how to review a place like this. On the one hand some of the food has been sitting under heat lamps for a while but on the other hand its dirt cheap. On the one Sunday I was here, there were thousands of obnoxious urchins running around near the ice cream and the chocolate fountain but on the other hand I was once an obnoxious urchin. The food varies in quality, the clientele can be taxing, and its a buffet. So its a typical gargantuan Asian buffet I guess thats worth 3 stars. I am throwing in an extra start because the staff has been really nice to me the couple times I've visited. First, I don't like seafood, sushi, fish, shrimp, you name it. I can eat elementary school style fish sticks bathed in tartar sauce and that's about it. I can't tell the difference between 25 cent sushi and 25 dollar sushi. So, why 5 stars? Because it's only $8 with a drink during lunch hours for a lot of food. They bring out full racks of barbecue ribs and chicken wings. A full rack of ribs with a dozen wings and a drink will set you back $25 most places. So, why would anyone not gives this place 5 stars based on that. They also had Sesame chicken and General Tso's which was pretty good. They had good french fries, sausage, beef, steak, and ice cream. If you like fish and stuff, I would assume this place would be that much better. My only grievance is that Chinese buffets have the worst dessert selection, but you should already know that. This place at least has good Cookies n Cream ice cream to compensate. All of the other desserts don't have enough sugar for American taste buds. Oh yeah, this place has by far the worst fried chicken that I have ever had. Or at least kind of had. This is one bite and spit it out fried chicken, it was that bad. The pizza also sucked. My husband and I were kid free for the first time in months, and wanted to sit down and eat minus a 45 minute wait after a long hard work week. Decided to check out this place as it is near our neighborhood...first mistake! Upon entering we walked up to the podium to be seated. We look around, look around, no staff. While my husband visited the restroom, I looked at the food on the bar, it looks OK. My husband walks up to the register and there is a girl/lady sitting there, on her cell phone. She is short so you can not see her over the tall counter, no apology, but she was cordial as she took our payment. As I walked around I could not help but hear the stickiness of the floor, thought maybe the floor clashed with my driving shoes. However, when I went to walk to our table on the carpet, I got the same feel/sound. Filthy, is all I could think and see as I sit and start looking around.. When is the last time they vacuumed? Let alone shampooed the carpet? The food was edible, but I will not return. If the dining area is in such a disarray, what does the kitchen look like and how safe is the food I am consuming? In hindsight, we should have walked out but we survived. For the life of me I can't understand why so many families where there...price? I heard about the buffet's grand opening in a local Chinese newspaper, which probably explains the crazy amount of Chinese customers. They had interesting decorations (stone soldier and his chariot?), clean looking tables and chairs, and the lighting were eye catching. The variation of their food is pretty impressive ( mostly meat and seafood), typical buffet food, but it seemed to lack some vegetable dishes. The sushi bar was consisted mostly of raw fish, and that can be a plus for some people, but I don't like raw sushi. For desert, they had ice cream, fruits, pudding, jello, and chocolate fondue with strawberries and marshmallows laid out for you. The chocolate wasn't in great quality (tasted weird and a tid bit grainy), and it wasn't heated up or anything. The thing that bothered me was that the food was cold when I got back to the table, I guess that the buffet severs weren't that great? I didn't eat that much meat, which probably explained why my brothers had really bad stomach aches and I didn't. I never took a liking to buffets, but I would go to Hibachi again. Honest review: dont expect a 3 star meal or farm to table fresh. Its good for what you pay for. They oysters, be warned some of them do not taste good its a hit and miss. There are crabs which are sometimes good sometimes they have a funky taste to them. There are frog legs which are amaizing. THeres octopus, sushi most of it is fake crab but atleast its something different. Then theres the hibachi grill which makes good things. Selection isn't too bad, but I felt there wasn't a really big veggies selection. I know, it's a buffet....who wants veggies.....I do. Good: Clams were good, but they run out real quick. The place is surprisingly big inside considering the exterior. They have a typical selection of Asian buffet food--don't let the name deceive you--there isn't JUST Japanese food. Expect to see Chinese and American fare as well! :) None of the foods that I tried stood out to me. The sushi was alright. It seemed as if they consisted of the same ingredients but was presented and rolled differently. The service was friendly and attentive. They were always on their toes about refilling our drinks. They feature a variety of food from the basic bread and fruits to the promised Japanese food. Con: As a place deemed to serve Japan Hibachi, I naturally expected sushi (they were there and there were some sashimi as well) and the basic items for hibachi. They lacked the authentic touch and flavors. I'm not asking for a performance like I would at a more fancy restaurant but this place lacks the taste that their restaurant title states. I found flies at this place and was dismayed they land in the food for a taste and the people behind the counters did nothing about it. The N -word was sang out loud a few times in the song in addition to derogatory words identifying women. I have never been so offended in all my time while having dinner. After myself and others began speaking loudly the manager came and said he would turn the music off... Stopped in on a Friday night for dinner, opted for the booths in the back. The over powering smell of dirty dishes or punk was in the air, it reminded me of Olde Country Buffet. The waitresses were more interested in folding silverware into napkins than taking care of the tables. The food seemed more tasteless than usual and was luke warm to being cold. I went to this restaurant before and it was ok. The last visit was one of the worst experience I had with a restaurant. I asked before we were seated was there still food available. We asked several times because we knew they would close in 30 minutes. We got our plates and finally set down. Our food was horrible. It was cold and just nasty.
