We used to really love the variety and food quality here. It is a good location on Waukegan Rd. However, lately the entrees we've ordered haven't been as good as in the past. For example, the blackened chicken sandwich used to be one of my favs. Since then, the flavor of the sandwich and remoulade has completely changed and not for the better. Fries not hot or fresh like in the past. I hope things go back to being better sometime soon. But until then, we are holding off for awhile. read more

First time visit. Ordered two eggs over medium, hash browns, bacon and decaffeinated coffee. Two people received regular coffee and the decaffeinated took quite awhile to arrive, either poor service or lack of workers. The eggs arrived and there were four eggs, unfortunately they were hard and not medium. Didn't complain since it took so long to get the coffee. Hash browns could have been a little bit more done and the bacon seemed to add at least four bucks to the bill. Side note the toilet's were plugged so good luck with that. read more

School and work holidays are the best! In this case, President's Day is what I'm thankful for. I went to Jasper's Cafe with my daughter and her bf for brunch although I have been here before to meet up with girlfriends, I only had hot tea and did not try any food. We came around 11am on a Monday and we were seated in a booth immediately. Our server was nice, efficient and on point. We tried each other's dishes and here are my thoughts:) The MEATY SKILLET was good and had a lot of meat although I wasn't a fan of the scrambled eggs (my daughter's choice) on top. The side of PANCAKES were delicious and fluffy. My order of PECAN ROLL BANANA FRENCH TOAST was just ok. It was a little too sweet for me and it basically had the initial and aftertaste of oily, fried eggs. The CUBAN PANINI was bland and quite disappointing but the fries that came with, were fantastic! The food portions for each dish were just the right size for one person, the place was clean and big with ample parking space, and the hostess was welcoming and friendly. It was good to finally try Jasper's as this is close to home but I would probably pick the other nearby places first, the next time we get a chance to have brunch=) read more

Food is fair, but I don't recommend a place that doesn't care about its customers. I left my jacket there at the end of the day this week and couldn't call until the next morning as they had closed. When I called early in the morning the manager was certain nothing was found, which seemed strange given they were about to close and few customers were still there. That meant only the clean up crew could have found it. He did not even bother to take my number in case it showed up as if he couldn't care less. Maybe a worker forgot to tell him he found it but the manager insisted nothing was found and was not interested in my issue. Anyone who cared would have put a little effort in trying to help. His attitude was he knew it all and they make no mistakes. He didn't even send someone to the booth to see if it had slipped under. It was a lightweight jacket and could have but he knew it was cleaned and nothing was there as if he could not have a worker that missed a booth. Not only is this not a classy place, if he doesn't care about customers, which he obviously does not, it's not a place I trust to make good decisions about anything including food safety. read more

Came here with friends for breakfast and sat in their outdoor tent area because it was such a gorge day. Unfortunately service was ultra slow as Greek molasses. We literally had to flag a waitperson down (via jumping jacks) just to get their attention. Once we got the attention it took another 30 min it seemed just to get our breakfast which was brought out (partially) by another rather angry waitperson that plopped our food down and left. Oh so sorry you had to assist your fellow server boo! Food was gross. I ordered the corned beef skillet. Big mistake! I got overcooked eggs (I ordered over-medium) What I received was over cooked eggs with dried yolks! The canned corned beef was inedible as it was hardly cooked and appeared to come just straight out of the van andplopped in the skillet. My friends got their paradise omelets and not sure what kinda "paradise" they were referring to but it was not on these plates--yuck! Will We come back? We had breakfast/lunch here today. The waitress was too busy talking with the customer in the next booth to refill coffee or do follow up. When the check was presented with a QR code, I paid the check with it. It looked like it was accepted but there was no option for a tip. We left the tip in cash. When we were driving away the fellow at the register came out and accused us of not paying the check. I told him I paid with the QR code. He said they didn't have that option set up. I asked why he had that option on the check and he said it was to allow for printing a receipt. I asked why the code was there if it isn't a method of payment. I got no answer. I had to return to the restaurant to pay the check with the waitress who ignored us looking accusingly at me while I paid. This made for a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant that I am angry enough about to leave this review several hours later. read more

this rest used to be a great place to eat but it's gone downhill. they used to accommodate changes in the things on to menu but that had stopped. you can't change anything without an extra chathe. the waiter and manager are very difficult lately. I've gone here many times But there seems to be a pattern of quiet disrespect for the customers. My waiter has waited on us many times but doesn't teLly care for us so he is never impolite but far from being friendly. I can live with that IF the food is good. But here is an example of how this place is going down hill. I ordered a bagel and they only have plain and I got one cream cheese. They are in little plastic containers. I asked for 2 more and when I got my check they charge me 75 cents fir each extra one. That's pretty petty, isn't it? In the past, when they are busy, the food comes out fast but is sloppily thrown on the plate. My friends picked this one after not being here for a month, but next time I'm going to suggest any other place ( probably ELLYS), and try not to come back. So the husband has officially put this place on his DNR - do not return - list. His stomach felt gurgly right after eating his corned beef hash skillet and eggs. Something didn't sit right, and the coffee was subpar. The hash browns were rather soft and not as crispy as he likes. The menu tells you that you get 2 eggs with each skillet, but you get 4 small ones in actuality. Double vision yolks! I tried the lox plate, which was so so. Cucumbers and onion were not on the freshest side, but the lox helping was plentiful. Onions take a while to go bad, don't they? Best part was the chewy bagel. Mmm carbs. Service was standard, but we won't be experiencing it again anytime. It was a busy Sunday brunch time, but we didn't have to wait for a booth. read more

Good food BUT the 3 times i've eaten there in the last few months, at least one of the meals in our party came out way after the others. Today when i mentioned it to the manager (?) or owner (?), his response was that the item (Dutch Baby) said it takes xx minutes long. I told him thats not the issue, the issue is that they brought our egg dishes out and we were finished by the time my niece got her food. And this happened before with my hamburger at another sitting. And he gave me attitude again and said in essence " we arent changing how we do things in the kitchen". kind of a F.U, too bad response. Again, good food, but every OTHER restaurant will stage their meals so everything is served together. Heck Walker Bros Original Pancake House has been doing long lead time items a lot longer and still brings the meals out at the same time. have been going to Jaspers for years. Went there the other day for breakfast and they got it all wrong. Over cook the eggs. would not substitute a side for something else. Which I found out later they should have, but instead they charged me for it . After our breakfast was served our waiter never came back. When we got tired of waiting to pay our bill we had to go up to the front to get our check. When they asked how our meal was and we told them, they didn't say anything. Went to Jasper's with my family today and it was a very underwhelming experience. It wasn't busy? we were seated right away and several tables were empty. Waiter rushed us to order, practically ripping menus out of our hands and not giving us a chance to order drinks or sides we may have wanted before running off. Food got to our table really fast but as a result, my mom and I both got omelettes that were severely under cooked. Eggs were strangely runny and had a weird wet texture. Hash browns were only cooked on one side, the bottom was soggy/mushy and COLD. My dad got eggs, sausage, and hashbrowns and his whole plate of food was cold before he got it. My sister's pancakes were burnt. My frozen/blended coffee with whipped cream was just coffee poured over ice and certainly not blended and there was no whipped cream. The waiter was nowhere to be found once he left our food with us and he didn't come back until he brought us a bill. We had no opportunity to say anything as he came and went so quickly. We specifically asked if there would be an up charge even though it was no additional ingredients. She said absolutely not. At the end of our meal, she came back with a huge bill. We asked her what had happened. We reminded her that she said there would not be any upcharges. She said it was not up to her. She said the manager, Tivo, applied all the charges. Our experience at Jasper's was overall good. We were seated fairly quickly and the waitress came by right away to take our drinks order. We ordered a couple of skillets and other traditional breakfast food. The only thing we all agreed was not-so-good was my wife's corn beef hash. It was super dry. It was almost cooked like a patty and it was possibly frozen and just thrown on the grill. It was just not good at all. But, everything else from the eggs to the pancakes, good food. I'd maybe consider coming back. There's just so many options to visit. read more

Had a table of 10 with people in from out of town... After being rushed by the server, red flag came up. Then trying to take my order quickly? Took a pass - he came back around - DIDN'T ORDER and glad I didn't! Friends in from LA, and my buddy found a long woman's hair attached both to his egg AND bacon on his plate. Put the hair on my plate (as I didn't order food yet alone eat) and when the 'glorified busboy' who never checked our table as he was our 'server' came to clear the plate I showed it to him point blank. He started to laugh and continued to laugh. I said you really think that's funny? Then he took two fingers and jabbed my shoulder a few times (management should pull the camera but they won't) and continued to laugh... I then said you think that's funny? Would you like me to stand up and touch you? He then tried to apologize as I'd slowed him down in his tracks and taught him a simple word - respect. He didn't even make an effort to rectify the situation with the hair in the food. Sad. Tried to tell the friend who paid the bill for entire table of 10 what happened but in a noisy restaurant and with 10 of us it was hard to even talk across the table. Nothing rectified until I'd called the restaurant to explain it to the manager - hope he gets it. Horrible service from the start - they think the customers are a joke. Overall not a good place. I got corned beef hash and it tasted like vomit. Drinking the water there tastes like you are drinking nickels. Couldn't hear the waiter at all. We were sat by a host. First our waiter gave us our menus then decided to pass us off to another waiter. When he came over I asked him for 2 waters and to told me to relax and take it easy because he was very busy. Everytime I asked him for something he was too busy. We had breakfast and our hash browns were almost burned. Eggs were only OK. This restaurant's food was much better before the pandemic and the waitstaff is non caring and rude. A no nonsense place. I've only been for breakfast. Food is good, portions are good and it's cheap. Some notworthy items are, real fresh squeezed oj, large omelettes with lots of ingredient choices, and the baked banana walnut french toast. It reminds me of a cinnabun with bananas. It oozes deliciousness. At about 10 inches in diameter, it should be shared. The service is always great as well. The only thing I wouldn't get again are the potato pancakes. Something about them isn't right.. So avoid those. Everything else has been delicious. Note to owners.. You should sell that baked banana French toast frozen. I have to update and upgrade after finally eating breakfast at Jasper's. They make an absolutely superior western omelette, practically perfect. The pancakes were pretty good, and the potatoes were just fine, but the omelette was a thing of beauty--and enormous. What a pile of food! And for under ten bucks! I ate until I was full and took half home. I'm still thinking about it two weeks later. Outstanding quality and value for weekend breakfast and brunch. Jasper's is a nice halfway point between us and my in-laws, so I hope to parlay this beneficent geographical fortuity into many more Sunday afternoon full-bellied naps. read more

We've been to this place about five times since they opened. Service is solid and pleasant. Everything is good except for their soups, which used to be good until recently. They now taste like nasty chicken bouillon. They're so bad that I heard the lady at the table next to us send back one soup only to send back the second soup option when they replaced it with an alternative. They should either use better ingredients or lower the entree price 50 cents and give up on offering soup. We've had patty melts, monte cristos, reubens, santa fe sandwiches, pancakes, and omlettes. All are solid and almost as good as Elly's Pancake House. I wouldn't necessarily compare this place to Walker Brothers as I've seen other reviewers do--though I haven't tried their apple pancake or dutch baby knockoffs. The atmosphere doesn't compare to Walker Brothers. read more
