We've been to this place about five times since they opened. Service is solid and pleasant. Everything is good except for their soups, which used to be good until recently. They now taste like nasty chicken bouillon. They're so bad that I heard the lady at the table next to us send back one soup only to send back the second soup option when they replaced it with an alternative. They should either use better ingredients or lower the entree price 50 cents and give up on offering soup. We've had patty melts, monte cristos, reubens, santa fe sandwiches, pancakes, and omlettes. All are solid and almost as good as Elly's Pancake House. I wouldn't necessarily compare this place to Walker Brothers as I've seen other reviewers do--though I haven't tried their apple pancake or dutch baby knockoffs. Walked in there today to meet friends for lunch and immediately noticed THREE of the kitchen staff not wearing their masks properly. One using it as a chin sling, the other two had them down below their noses. When I asked the people behind the counter why their kitchen staff wasn't wearing their masks properly, the person who answered told me that they were (without even looking) so I told him to turn around and see. Another member of their staff went to the pass through and told them to fix their masks and all three of them in the kitchen looked at the person and hesitated. That was more than enough for me. Ber L's wife was the one actually belittling that poor girl with the long brown hair over a spoon with water stains. At one point I heard her suggest that the Manager pick up her bill. I went to Jasper's this morning for breakfast. I ordered the corn beef skillet and a side of pancakes. After taking a couple bites of pancakes, I noticed a dark spot on top of the pancakes. I moved it with my fork and it was a cockroach. Emotion for the server to come. Instead of offering to make a new breakfast or comp the meal, He took the cockroach and then returned with the check for 50% discount on the meal. At that point, I had no appetite. I won't be returning to this restaurant unless I have a taste for bugs. read more

Breakfast of Champions My wife and I were hung over and I saw this place on yelp so we gave it a try. Good decision. When we first took at look at the menu the prices are a little high for breakfast, but we had no idea what was coming. First the place is very bright and well appointed. I ordered a simple 2 egg special and my wife got a skillet. We figured out when food arrived why the prices are a bit high. The portions are enormous. This is not just quantity it's quality as we'll. the menu says 2 eggs but they are double eggs so it's the equivalent of 4 eggs for both dishes. It was delicious. Went to jaspers for lunch been going there for a year about every two weeks. My friends breakfast was eggs not cooked cold potatoes and coffee that was cold. When my friend went to pay she talked to manager and owner and bothe yelled at her and used vulgar language when she notified them of the issue. There told to leave and never come back. Be assured we would never visit an institution that the manager and owner used vulgar profanity and were disrespectful to its patrons. I would recommend not to go to this restaurant. read more

We went to another breakfast restaurant on Milwaukee Ave. for years before that but Jasper's has, by far, the best omelettes ever and the fastest service. They try hard and succeed. Best of the bunch for brunch! The food is as good if not better than any place in this genre. It is less expensive than most of the local competitors. The place is big enough that there is seldom a wait. The breakfasts are very good. The quality of the steak is better than expected. The sandwiches are solid and I really like their burgers. There are a lot of windows making the room light and attractive. I would be extremely happy if they opened for dinner on weekends. Previous owners had it opened for dinner but I think they didn't find it profitable. I know my wife and I would be happy to come on a nothing-better-to-do Saturday or Sunday night for burgers, steak sandwiches or pancakes at that price point. If they had a beer and wine license, I imagine the profit margin would make it worthwhile. The only criticism I have is that they have been using picnic napkins in the washrooms- probably leftovers from a catering job. WHAT ARE YOU DOING! They fall apart in your wet hands. I absolutely love this place! They have amazing fluffy pancakes that cannot be beaten with whipped butter! The Waffle Sundae is out of this world! Julienne salad was good but the grilled chicken breast was dry and the Chicken fingers salty(but fries were good). The Jalapeño skillet, The Butcher skillet and The Meaty skillet were all good! There aren't many breakfast restaurants that can accomodate a large group on a Sunday, but Jaspers was ready and had the space. The staff was nice, friendly and accomodating, and they have a nice little space to eat outside. The childrens pancakes were adorable, omelttes large and everyone seemed happy, except for the people in our large group who ordered the sausage. Please please put some other sausage on the menu with some flavor!!! I think u would get more customers with a better breakfast sausage. read more

This was a great experience. My friend and I were sat once we arrived. Within seconds a server came to us and introduced herself along with the menus. She asked if we wanted coffee and of course I said yes. They have a great selection of food both in breakfast and lunch categories. I went with the chicken pesto panini and a side of fries. Sandwich was a good size that hit the spot. My sister got the cheese omelette which was huge. The place was fairly packed but food timing was pretty quick. My server was very nice, the food came out quickly, the cream of mushroom soup was good. Unfortunately, the rest of my food was a disappointment. I ordered the ham and Swiss panini with hash browns. I went on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. Plenty of seating & parking. Good start. When I walked in the door. I was met at the hostess station by the owner & felt as though I was bothering him as he was having a long conversation with patron. He asked if I wanted a booth or table & I explained I was meeting someone so I was looking around to see if she was there yet. As I'm trying to look he asks me again. Again I say I'm looking to see if my friend was there. Finally he says that I should let him know when I'm ready & he turns his back on me to continue his conversation. Mind you all this took place in less than 20 seconds. Have a little patience why don't you? Finally a young lady came over & sat me down. The wait staff was very cordial as my wait for my dining guest was a bit longer than expected. They made sure I had everything I wanted while I waited. Finally, my friend shows up & we order. I ordered lunch & got a Chicken Panini sandwich& split pea soup. The pesto on the sandwich overtook the entire meal & the soup was very watered down. Now with all this negativity being said, I will try again because 1 sandwich does not a restaurant make. I just hope the owner learns lesson #1 in the restaurant business, the customer comes first. Eating at Jaspers is mostly a good experience. I happened to go an hour before closing on a Sunday and the place was empty so they were cleaning and I had the scent of Lysol with my brunch so that was the major letdown. However given my rating the positives overcame the negatives. I was hungry so I had a skillet, which came with pancakes and a waffle with homers ice cream and strawberries. The skillet was good but it did need some more seasoning, perhaps pepper ans jalapenos. as other reviewers commented, it comes with 4 small eggs on top so you get 4 yolks which was nice. The pancakes which came along with it were nice and fluffy- much larger than Walker Brothers. The waffle was great and they did not skimp on the ice cream. I also had some bacon which was good. The orange juice was good but looked unnaturally orange. One nice thing was that the atmosphere looked very clean and modern. However there really was not much ambiance or decor whatsoever. Everyone compares this place to Walker Brothers because the menu is nearly identical (it looks like they hired a chef from Walker Brothers or copied the menu). However, the food is close but still it misses the ambiance, personality and the flavor (I am referring to Walker Brothers in Wilmette, not Glenview). The price is somewhat cheaper than Walker Brothers and its a nice change of pace if you are looking for brunch. read more

All fresh tasting and reasonable price considering hash browns and choice of toast or pancakes comes with the meal. My husband and I went this weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. I had the veggie skillet served with eggs over potatoes. The meal included two pancakes (or toast- I opted for the pancakes) on the side. My skillet was delicious, but I'm pretty sure that the menu said that the skillet had two eggs....even though four showed up on my plate (I took half of my breakfast home with me!). The pancakes were surprisingly delicious- I would definitely order them again! However, the cafe should have the option of real maple syrup! This review is long overdue -- My review is for breakfast only as I have only ever been here for breakfast (but I have been here quite a few times)... So we ended up at Jasper's one day after hitting the Kohl Children's Museum. From the outside, it looks like a diner. But the food is so much better. The pancakes are out of this world (hugh, fluffly, etc), the portions are huge and the restaurant offers up fresh squeezed OJ to boot. The staff is polite, professional and quick. The restaurant is large with lots of tables that aren't packed too closely together. I used to think about Walker Brothers when going out for pancakes...but honestly, I would rather drive to Jasper's. And I'm in Evanston so it is a bit of a drive. read more

I eat here every Thursday with a group that meets here. I finally took my wife here and now she likes coming on the weekends. Service is always friendly, food comes out fast and hot, prices are easy to swallow too. Your run of the mill diner with a huge menu and solidly-prepared food. Beware that portion sizes are HUGE. If the menu says two eggs, it will be four as they have "double eggs."
