Probably closer to 4 1/2 stars, but this is a gem. Very cool atmosphere, solid food and nice place to just grab something casual that isn't resort food or 4 star dining. We had soup and a nice pulled pork sandwich. The server refilled my water 4 or 5 times without us asking and even brought extra napkins. Will definitely be back. read more

Great Maui blend coffee. Tried the french toast (complete with cream cheese and strawberry syrup, frittata, and breakfast burrito over the course of two days (came back two days in a row). Everything was delicious. Ended up taking a pound of their Maui blend coffee bean back home. read more

Food was fine, we had coconut shrimp appetizer, but we have had better on the island. The worst part was the service was mediocre at best. Even after we had a MOUSE crawl along the back of our bench seat. My wife jumped up screaming because the mouse was crawling right along my back on top of the pillow, I turned when she was screaming and the mouse ducked down into the cushions. Despite both of us jumping up and making a bit of a scene, I still had to call one of the wait staff over to tell them what happened. He simply apologized at that point and asked if we wanted to just sit at the bar. We stayed and finished our drink listening to a little more live music, but their reaction to the situation was appalling. They didn't even bother to comp a drink or anything, and worst of all, they barely inspected our original seating for rodents before seating new guests there!!! I've never met a pancake I didn't like until I came here. I don't know where to begin. Ah, yes... the decor. I'm not sure what theme the owners were going for, but if they were going for hoarder's paradise, they nailed it. Art pieces included AR-15 with boots with Mardi Gras beads hanging from them, painting of President Nixon as a clown, crayon autographed Polaroid pictures, and wine bottle chandelier to name a few. The ambiance was chaotic, cluttered, and offensive. We ordered an iced tea and a latte. The former was Persian tea, which the waiter had no idea what it was. It's pretty much basic earl grey. The latter, latte, was the among the worst I've ever had. Diner coffee with milk isn't a latte. My wife ordered the huevos rancheros on a recommendation from yelp. Big fail here; the chorizo was scraped from the bottom of the pan. I ordered the standard breakfast: pancakes, eggs, add sausage. I say add sausage because the two sausage patties cost about $3 extra, despite being half-dollar sized (no exaggeration). The pancakes were NOT FLUFFY! The only way to describe the pancake texture is gooey, very gooey. I can tolerate a different texture, if the flavor is there. Well, it's not. The pancakes were very sour, very lemony or too much baking soda. Congrats Jazzy, you've served the only pancake I've never finished. We were in a hurry and didn't want to make a fuss because the waiter was hard to talk to communicate with (but very nice), so we escaped after paying the overpriced check. read more

And then I asked the bartender if he took offense to that and she said yes because he only plays his own music! And he's the OWNER!! I'm a pretty picky breakfast person. I know what I like and it's not that difficult. I like my eggs over medium, no runny white stuff and my bacon a little on the crispy side but not burnt. This place nailed it. The eggs were perfect and when I say perfect I mean absolutely 100% perfect. Not a drop of white runny stuff but the yolks were full and oozed out empty when broken. It take a real pro to cook and egg like that. It's usually all running or cooked too long and the yolks are stiff or hard. The bacon was excellent as well. My wife had an omelette frittata with toast and home fries. She said her breakfast was excellent as well. I tried her potato home fries (not suppose to as I'm on the Keto plan) and holy crap were they good. May be that I'm just missing potatoes in my diet but in any case they were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside and seasoned to perfection. Coffee was great as well. The place is a little bit of a trip when you first walk in. Lots of abstract art and pictures. It's a little dark but it's funky cool and enjoyable. Waaaay better than the breakfast place 100 yards south of it. read more

Loved this funky little slice of heaven. From the Barbie/Moroccan/kitschy decor to the friendly staff, great music (provided by the owner) and yummy food, this is a definite place to stop in Ka'anapali. Not fancy, definitely offbeat, but good food (loved the goat cheese-sundried tomato app) and a lot of fun. And a nice change of pace from the big resorts nearby. read more

The waitress was sassy but cool, the owner was incredibly polite and the service was very good. I love this place. Located in a little strip mall in the Kaanapali area (don't know why it says Lahaina), you'll be taken by surprise as you step through the threshold of the place. The interior is lavishly decorated, with much of the unique artwork having been created by the owner. You won't find a cooler place to eat in all of Maui, except maybe Mama's Fish House. I only got over there for coffee and pastries during our last vacation, and it was delicious. Previous visits had me loving their lunches more than the dinners, but dinner often comes with live jazz music which might help make up for a just-ok meal. By all means, check this place out early in your trip -- you might want to return several times during your stay. read more

We ate here twice while in Maui in Sept'12; once for breakfast and once for lunch and both times the food was very good and the service was excellent! The place is funky and will definitely keep you occupied just looking around at all of the random collectibles hanging from the walls and ceiling. Service was great. This place is great for breakfast! Best iced coffee drinks on the island (both the iced mocha and caramel latte were great) and the huevos rancheros with chorizo was awesome. The French Toast is absolutely killer if you want something sweet and the pancakes are like a thick sourdough blanket with butter and powdered sugar. Really interesting and way more flavorful than average pancakes. The best thing about this place though is how it's not crowded like some of the more touristy spots and the service is solid. Overall, this is my favorite breakfast place so far and I'm definitely coming back. read more

Third time I've been here and the food was absolutely perfect. The menu and the decor inside is very eclectic. Every one of my family members enjoyed their meal. I had the portabella mushroom burger and it was SO GOOD. The waiter recommended the guava Persian iced tea with it and it completed the meal. Easily my favorite place to eat in Maui. read more

The ambiance of this place is pretty fantastic, and there are always things for your eyes to be amused with. This was where the high note ended unfortunately. After placing an order for drinks, my family and I waited around for 20 minutes without anyone checking on us. Just as we were about to leave money and leave, the owner (I assume) came over to our table to see if we had ordered. The one star is for how nice they are with the greeting when you walk in. Came here for breakfast....Started with a mocha which tasted as if it was made with a packet of hot chocolate mix and a cappuccino that was 80% foam in a cracked handled mug, both lukewarm at best. Next came a "doughy" pancake and for $2 extra you can have crumbs of macadamia nuts. Syrup is 100% corn syrup sitting on the table not even warmed up. Really? Also had Veggie Eggs Benedict where the sauce tasted like it was made from a powder mix OR if it was from scratch, flour used to thicken it? Yes the house potatoes were tasty, until you tasted the grit/dirt from the unscrubbed skins. Server never once stopped by to refill waters, remedy for all the foam was to bring me steamed aka cool milk, and the check was dropped off and the server actually stood over us expecting immediate payment. Wife and I stopped in after finding this place randomly. I have been in Maui for a week, hands down this is the best breakfast I have had. Come hungry the portions are generous. Gotta say, place is unusual - in a creepy cool kind of way? Good music, relaxing atmosphere, weird decor... BUT service is so terrible! The blonde lady who served the bar, as well as tables was so rude. Rushing past us constantly.. no waters, disgust in her tone of voice when we would ask for different dressing or drinks, like we were bothering her etc. Very odd that pasta dishes don't come with anything, like a simple piece of bread. Cant throw that in for a $15 bowl of simple noodles & sauce? Food was decent, not super great. Place was dirty - then again there's so much clutter in there, not sure how they can dust? They were obviously understaffed, saw other customers getting upset as well. Plus we were told dishwasher was broken & no person available to wash dishes? Not sure what that meant, but had to block that thought out of my mind what we were eating & drinking out of.. Yuk! read more

Arrived at 10:40 am on a Sunday and ordered a BLT and goat cheese app. We asked at 11:45 where our food was and we're told at leat 10 more minutes. Crazy waste of my time. After all the rave reviews, we gave it a try. Waited FOREVER to be seated, never greeted, had to get up to get menus ourselves. After waiting one hour after ordering, I finally asked the kitchen how long it'd be before getting served. After paging through a pile of tickets, they said it'd be a while. Needless to say, we left. Crappy start to Fathers Day. Sitting beachside now at Hula Grill taking in the natural beauty as opposed to the sketchy nude art that littered the walls in Java Jazz. Spare yourself. Amazing amazing amazing. LOVE the food and the people!!! Spent an entire week on every corner of maui. Tried out so many beach front restaurants with okay food, while stopping at this place every morning just to grab a coffee. Living in Vancouver Canada, I suppose I am spoiled with both incredible and endless menu/restaurant options. This place was by FAR the best that we found in Maui! We found it on our last day (tried the food)... and went back three times before we had to fly out that next morning. I had the Ahi tuna (I highly recommend this appy) starter every time. My husband tried something different each time, and we loved it all. My only objection would be the dark atmosphere inside, while its sunny and incredible outside. Do yourself a favor, go here! We came for dinner and were not disappointed. We had the goat cheese and sun dried tomato appetizer, which was delicious. My husband had the Mahi Mahi and it was very, very good. I had the angel hair pomodoro with chicken, which was also very good. Our server, Madison, was so friendly and a great server. The 2 jazz musicians were really mellow and cool. First night in Maui and stumbled across this great authentic experience. Reasonably priced very good food and the terrific guitar music (Sundays and Mondays) kept us at our table longer. Had planned on sampling other eating spots for dinner, but I guess we'll have to do that for lunch so we can make it back to Java Jazz/Soup Nutz for more great music and further exploration of the dinner menu. This place was recommended by our hotel concierge. I often view their suggestions w/hesitation but since this person likes breakfast as much as I do, we decided to check it out. It was nearby and just as he mentioned good and plenty of food for a reasonable price. Just as another review mentioned, it is a little dark but the eyes will adjust but we sat closer to the window for more light. The music mix by the owner is awesome- a mix of jazz and world music not too loud either. Even an older couple perhaps in their 70s were rocking w/the music. Service was attentive also. Will definitely return when we visit again in January if we're in the area. read more
