This place is okay... they have live music sometimes, and in the morning it's kinda nice. Nothing overly special, just another small coffee shop with food. I'm sure I'd frequent it if I lived in Hermosa Beach. However, parking sucks. The coffee is just average. Food is okay. And everyone is right about the bathrooms. read more

Java Man is a local favorite. They are actually owned by another local favorite: Ocean Diner. They have good coffee, good food, free wifi and comfortable seating. What more could you ask for!? Considering one of the only other "coffee shop" alternatives in Hermosa is Starbucks, this is the FAR superior choice. I love their menu - the have a gluten free pastry selection and offer Almond Milk. They have tasty breakfast burritos (vegetarian option available); steel cut oatmeal; fresh bagels from Manhattan Bread; granola with yogurt; sandwiches; salads; soups and panini's. There is limited outdoor seating for ideal people watching, or comfortable coffee-shop style indoor seating. Or take your coffee and pastry and wander along the Strand. I find the staff to be friendly and efficient, and I love the local "non-corporate" feel. I'll be back! read more

So, it was super busy and hectic at Javamans this morning, but so was everything else down by the pier because of Fiesta Hermosa going on this weekend! They had super cool art inside as well as live music outside, so it's a great atmosphere no matter where you are sitting. I ordered an iced Chai latte which was easily the best one I've ever had! Another great place ruined by the presence of dogs. I don't want an animal that eats it's own feces in the same room where my food is prepared. Federal law agrees with me, too. This wasn't a service animal either; the cute outfit and sunglasses (on a dog?!) are dead giveaway. I really want to support the local coffee shops, but its way to inconsistent. Sometimes it is really good and other times its absolutely horrible. Problem is that is 7 out of 10 times its horrible. The coffee tastes so burnt is just straight bitter to drink. Guess will just have to keep searching and in the mean time will have to give my money to consistent corporate companies that serve alright coffee. :/ read more

Meh. If you're in Hermosa Beach and looking to be across the street from the beach and looking for a place to chill, Java Man is a quiet, homey place to be. It has its odds-and-ends assortment of chairs, sofas, and tables to give you that local coffee lounge vibe. I'd say that the food and drinks are a bit overpriced though for the quality, and the place isn't too clean. It's not the best place to study at, since free parking in Hermosa Beach is notoriously hard to find and the more readily available paid parking adds up by the hour. The meters run till late, hours varying by location (pay attention to the posted signs). If you have some time to kill and are looking to sit and read in a well-worn floppy chair, this place may be for you. I don't think I'll be back though. I come here for my coffee fix when I want to read a book, study, or meet with a friend. It is on a great location on Pier Avenue where there are a lot of people passing by (if people watching is your thing) and is generally quiet and cool. Comfortable tables and chairs and bathroom in the back are really the main things one can ask for in a cafe. Coffee is decent (can't complain but can't really rave about it either). Teas are made with loose leaf bags in a teapot, and they provide refills on the hotwater for the pot. Their sweets look good, but they don't look good enough for me to really want to try them. Parking isn't free though. You have to pay by meter like everything else on Pier Ave. read more

I was looking for a good coffee shop to hang out and work for the day. I found this place on yelp and gave it a try. I got here around 8:30am and it was pretty busy with the morning crowd. I was able to find a good seat. I ordered steamed milk and a breakfast burrito. The burrito was really good and somewhat healthy. The set up of the coffee shop includes three small rooms. The main room is the largest with multiple round and square top tables. One smaller room has a long couch and two love seats. The other room has tables. The noise level in here could get relatively high depending on who's sitting next to you. The ceiling is pretty low so it definitely gets very noisy here. There are also four small outdoor tables. I really like the ambiance here. It's very clean and friendly. There are many shops around here if you get bored of working. I highly recommend coming here. I heart Java Man forever! This is one of my favorite coffee shops in all of Hermosa, its a quick walk down pier. Great location. I am an espresso girl, so having some espresso from Java Man, completely and utterly curves my cravings. Not just do they have great coffee, but they have all sorts of eats to chose from. Made a quick stop for a latte and a chorizo burrito on my way to work. Wait time: max 5min. Price ~$8! (with tip) I was going to walk down to the Starbucks across from Citibank near the beach, but decided to give this local shop a try. I am a Starbucks fan, but this coffee shop is my new favorite. The place is small and the counter is directly right of the front door so you have to walk through the line to get inside but the quick service and friendly demeanor deters any negative comments I might have had if the line was slow and the staff were rude. They have a variety of fresh pastries to choose from in the display counters and are currently serving seasonal drinks, like an eggnog latte. A gentlemen in line ordered an eggnog latte right behind me and said that he really likes the latte, so I will be giving that a try next time. read more

The guys are so nice and professional. Never hear them complaining. I'm in love with their lattes. It's dog friendly and clean. Cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, pastries are so good. The Raspberry latte and smoothies are the best. Java man is a permanent fixture in Hermosa. With their iconic building, you can't get any better than this. check out the Iced Chai latte. Super awesome spot to rock out some work on your laptop (free wifi) and sip some tea or coffee. The food is alright. Decent breakfast burritos, good tuna sandwich, good fruit. The workers are a bit loud and one has a weird voice but that makes it interesting. Love this place. This place is the best local non-conglomerate coffee house in south bay, in my coffee-connoisseur opinion. Ambiance is that of an old converted house, couches, bar stools, mix/match tables...the bathroom is way in the back to the right and most people can't find it so thank me later! People are local, friendly if you want to be, and art-oriented. The original art on walls is from locals too. Hot tip...order yourself a large cappuccino in an oversized house cup and hang out. Coffee refills are .25cents for one refill only. They have good oatmeal and breakfast burritos are $4 I believe. Indoor/Outdoor very casual. Baked goods are yummy and they have sandwiches too. YUM. They crafted my coffee to my personal tastes and OMG! I purchased some quiche that is worth returning for. The building is a quaint bungalow so you literally feel at home if you choose to stay put. Or you can sit out front in the plentiful outdoor seating area. Now the quarters are tight so standing in line is awkward, confusing and uncomfortable because you will have to share your personal space. The restroom is in an awkward little hallway on the backside of the café. Again, tight quarters so beware. You should it if you can and find a restroom elsewhere. Other than that, AWESOME! read more
