We hosted a celebration of life dinner on February 23rd. Due to the numbers of guests we had a private room. The table was set beautifully and they included an extra table that I had requested to display some mementos and pictures. Jordan was our server and she was amazing! She was very knowledgeable not only about the food and wine, but also about the pictures in the room. The food was absolutely amazing! We had a few people with us that had never been to a Jeff Ruby restaurant. They were blown away by the quality of the steaks! We enjoyed cocktails, wine, appetizers, salads, sushi, multiple sides, steaks, fish and dessert! Almost all of us took butter pie home to enjoy later. It was one of the best desserts I've ever had! Our first time at the new JR location did not disappoint. There was live music at the bar in the front when we arrived and we sat in the back dining room. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and had been with the restaurant since the 1990s. We had oysters to start (yummy) and I had the It's Britney, Spritz cocktail which was fabulous - a lavender flavored take on a French 75 and Instagram worthy. We split a wedge salad, then both had petite filets and split the potatoes Anna which were a crispy creamy take on potatoes au gratin without cheese - absolutely scrumptious! No room for dessert but they brought a small plate with a cheesecake bite, chocolate chip cookie and butter cake bite with a candle. It was perfect! I love the decadent, 1920s-esque decor even though hubs finds it "over the top". It's a big space and was busy but somehow feels cozy and is not too loud. Really a 4.5 rating, and only because it was late November when we went and there were flies (or one very persistent fly?) bothering us at our booth and around the food/sugary cocktail drinks. We recently hosted a New Business Dinner at Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse in downtown Cincinnati. Everything was exceptional! Everyone knows the food is 5-star but so is the staff! Working with Maggie to plan the evening, talk through the budget, menu options and timeline of the dinner was not only very easy but fun! Maggie's suggestions were so helpful and no detail was left undone. The staff that took care of us that night - from the valet, to the greeters at the front door, to our waiters - were amazing! Foundry is hands down, the most happening spot downtown Cincinnati right now. The vibe was upbeat and swank, reminding me of a supper club in the 40s. Definitely movie shoot worthy. My trip was driven by the Fixx Band, who plays there quite often. I knew seating would be tough without a reservation, but I took my chances and lucked out when the kindest gentleman offered me his seat at the bar. The bar staff was awesome! Service at all Ruby spots are top tier. Prior to sitting, I ordered an expresso martini...YUM! Once I was able to be seated, I opted for the Mega Roll sushi roll that was topped by a king crab, shrimp, and lobster mixture. Very tasty. While Ruby spots are pricy for full meals, my sushi roll and martini came to less than $60, including tip. Of course, you can order a burger, salad, or sides and spend even less than that if you just want to take in the dining experience. We had a fantastic family holiday dinner Thanksgiving Eve. There were a total of 12 of us. The food was excellent. All of the steaks were cooked perfectly. The sides were great. And I really enjoyed the coconut cake for dessert. We were in the Legacy room with Chip as our server. He did an amazing job. His wine knowledge was very evident. He provided perfectly attentive service without being over the top. And he even threw in a quick lesson on the history of the restaurant and the famous Cincinnatians featured in the room's numerous portraits (which was much appreciated by our out of town guests). We drove up from Louisville and had a lovely Saturday night dinner here since our Jeff Ruby's has been closed due to downtown protests, and I'm so glad we did. We were seated in the very back party room by a window, and the atmosphere throughout the restaurant when walking through was grandiose and gorgeous. It was also packed, so a reservation is definitely needed. Our server, Jason, and his assistant Lupe, were both prompt, friendly, and amazingly helpful. Water, along with fresh bread and butter, were on the table immediately, and we were given menus and specials right away. We started with a Pinot noir and a Manhattan, both were perfect, and we split a Freddie salad - the salad was PLENTY for two people and had tons of tomatoes and crisp bacon. For dinner we both ordered the 8 ounce filet, medium rare. One was Collinsworth style and arrived with a large, plump piece of fresh crab atop of it. The sauces were delicious, the asparagus crisp, and the steaks were a perfect temperature. Delicious. We also shared a baked potato which was plenty to split, and it was served with ample butter and sour cream. For dessert, our server recommended the banana fosters ice cream torte, and it was FAB!! The ice cream tasted like homemade snow ice cream that my grandma used to make, it was icy and remarkably good. The brûléed bananas served on the side were sooo sweet and went very well with the torte. Absolutely perfect! Everything from start to finish was wonderful. My only complaint about our entire experience was waiting for our table -- there was very limited space in the foyer and lobby area, and we were left standing next to a table of people who were trying to enjoy dinner while seated basically in the front doorway. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor profile was sublime but outstanding. Everything was came out hot and quickly even though it was a busy night. Second the service we received was beyond compare. The staff were very helpful and offered comprehensive suggestions according to our tastes. This was a fabulous night made even more special by the service received. Tips to make your visit a success: 1) Order something that will be prepared tableside. Both my Australian Wagyu and our Bananas Foster were prepared tableside and it was breathtaking. The chef talked to us as he prepared the meal and explained the reasons for each step in the process. It is something you must splurge on at least once. 2) Get the full experience. A family member raved so we went last night for 1/2 of our Valentines plans. The ambience is really nice. Niche observation but we couldn't help but feel like we were eating in the American Horror Story "hotel". The service was great and we were seated immediately. I'm rating three stars because the food was very underwhelming. The highlight for me was the braised short ribs, the sauce was really nice and the meat was cooked very well. We both decided that was our favorite. We agreed the Shanghai lobster was definitely over cooked, the sauce was good, sweet and spicy, but the texture of the lobster was rubbery. The Mac and cheese was what I'd expect from any good Mac and cheese but nothing special. The bread and butter you get is good, I especially liked the truffle butter. I did not include a photo but we also got sushi, I did not care much for the godfather roll. The filet mignon on the roll didn't have much flavor and the roll would be very bland if not for the spicy Mayo. The petite filet mignon was fine. The kiss from a rose dessert was very fun and it was beautiful, however if I had tasted the rose beforehand I would have chosen not to crumble it over the dessert, the crushed rose gave the dessert an almost chemical flavor. Overall I don't think I'd choose to go here again, I think for the price there are a few restaurant in the area I'd prefer to this one. Glad we tried it though. read more

A culinary gem! My wife and I have eaten at Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse a few times now and every time we have been throughly impressed with the food, atmosphere and service. My wife isn't much of a steak person, but she loves the steaks here. The flavor is outstanding and without a doubt the best steak we've ever had! I love the ribeye and my wife loves the filet. The burger is also insanely good! The sushi was just ok. Every side we've had is very good The butter pie is without a doubt one of the best desserts we've ever had! Highly recommend! Let me say first the service was impeccable with Erick as our waiter, truly a seasoned professional! The oysters for our appetizer were so fresh, like they were just caught and shucked. Our only disappointment was the Freddie salad which was a lot of the white ribs of the romaine hardly any green lettuce, and not the presentation like what we have had previously at the other JR restaurants. The dinner part itself was off the charts perfectly cooked filet, lobster tail full of flavor, with the creamiest mashed potatoes ever! Also I would like to bring attention to the food, it is absolutely fantastic. Their bread is delicious, lemonade is amazing, and oh my goodness don't even get me started on the steak. Their A5 Japanese Wagyu is stunning. It literally melts in your mouth, and adding the Wagyu butter to the steak is an extra bonus. The only problem I had is even though our Mac & Cheese was piping hot when our food came out, it cooled very quickly. Not sure why. That was the only problem we had. Came to Jeff Ruby's for my birthday dinner. I was greeted immediately by attentive staff, who made accommodations to my seating preferences. Sailor (apologies for any misspelled names) offered to take photos to commemorate my celebration. Umit, our server, was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. As my partner and I are both in service, our expectations of service were blown away. We began with the "Strawberry Fields" and "Brandon's Old Fashion", both delectable and intricate cocktails. My hesitation to order the Ruby Roll (sushi) due to the mix of sea and land was put to rest by the first bite. We ordered the Australian Wagyu filet and Bone-In filet-- both tender to the touch and melted like butter. Best steak I have ever ordered in house. Exceptional taste and service. This was by far the BEST restaurant we dined at for dinner in the Cincy area! We started off with the tuna tartare which was enclosed in slices of avocado served with these delicious crispy chips. They served warm bread with truffle mushroom butter which was delightful. For our entree, we had the filet and lobster with mashies which was perfection. We ended our meal with their house-made butter cake which melts in your mouth. We enjoyed our meal so much that we came back the next night to order the same. Shout out to Katie, Jeremy and Dakota!
