Saying a Sub is better than Subway isn't really complimenting a place. In this case it is stating a fact. Meats are sliced fresh to order at Jersey's Mike's and are of much higher quality than Subway for sure. They have a concept of how their sub should taste. They suggest ordering it Mike's way, which is a blend of seasoned oil & vinegar, oregano, salt & pepper. It's a tried and true formula, which I'm a fan of. You won't find honey mustard chipotle this or that here. These subs aren't for the timid and are a good size. As Nick the Dick once said after being asked if that was the footlong...."And then some." The large sub here must be 18" and packed pretty good with meat. I've been to Jersey Mike's twice now. I never wrote it up after the first visit over a year ago. I'm guessing I ordered the same thing this time around. The original Italian Mike's Way. They have a deli case displaying their own brand of cold cuts. Pretty middle of the road stuff, not to be confused with Boar's Head. The roast beef did look nice and red, but I didn't try it. The Original Italian has provolone cheese, boiled ham, genoa salami, capicola, pepperoni, and prosciuttini. The prosciuttini is a little different and apparently is popular in New Jersey. This isn't like prosciutto at all. It's more of a peppered cooked pork. Basically the problem I had with all the meat is that they lacked flavor. The capicola was very mild. The genoa was the most mild salami I've ever had. Same with the Pepperoni. We were hunting for a casual sandwich spot that did not rhyme with frubway or shriznos in the Brea area. So we decided to give Jersey Mike's a shot since it was in our neighborhood... more specifically, the Brea Marketplace. He ordered a roast beef & provolone sandwich and I had a baja chicken wrap. I loved that the deli meats were sliced fresh, right in front of you. Since he had a cold cut sandwich, he had the option of having it "MikesWay" which included onions, red wine balsamic vinegar, tomatoes, and lettuce. His roast beef sandwich was very simple and was a fairly decent size. The meat itself was just mediocre and seemed attainable at any deli. The best part was probably the wheat bread of the sandwich which was fresh and soft. The baja grilled chicken wrap contained lettuce, salsa, and jalapenos. Nothing stood out and it was something my 6 year old cousin could have created. The kicker was the price... $6.95 for the chicken wrap, $7.75 for the roast beef sammich, and $1.95 per drink which added up to be about $20 + tip. However, the service was fantastic and parking was a piece of cake, so instead of 2 stars, 3 should suffice. read more

wow i can't believe i did not write a review for jersey mike's subs...tsk tsk to me! this is my go to place when i'm craving a great sandwich. i come here at least once a week (since it's a couple of miles away from my work) and i always order the same thing. the club supreme (#9): mikes way (of course) which is onions, lettuce, tomatoes, vinegar, oil and spices...i also add the hot cherry pepper relish (spicy yet sooo delish :]) and the banana peppers...mmm i'm drooling just thinking about it right now. there are 3 sizes: mini, regular, and giant. if you're just looking for a light lunch get the mini, if you're hungry get the regular and if you and a co-worker want to share get a giant. i've seen people eat a giant on their own, but man that's a huge sandwich. even a large or half a giant fills me up for hours. i would definitely recommend this place for someone who is craving a sandwich and is in the area. subway, quiznos, and togos = crap compared to jersey mike's. i think it's the bread that is so soft and chewy and the fact that they actually cut the cheese and meat as you order. also the employees are very nice and overall it's just a great sandwich joint. can't wait to eat this later today for lunch :] jersey mike's FTW! p.s. there is no fist pumping happening here lol read more

But to my surprise nobody had my order or any sandwiches ready... after 25 min and 5 people getting involved I finally was on the way to eating ! Sad organization and execution. Once again, Yelp has helped me find a small little yummy place! I got the Jersey Mike Philly-cheese steak sandwich.. the BIG KAHUNA! It sure was big and fed my bf and I. For the price it was worth it and it was a great experience. Felt a little weird eating it outside.. While I was eating this buttered up sandwich with red meat cheese soda and chips... I was looking into all these fit people at the Gym looking at me ( since 24 hour fitness) is literally right where the outdoor seating area is. This Mc-Sub-Sandwich-wanna-be deli made me sad. I'm getting tears in my eyes now, in fact. Just admit it, Jersey Mike's, please? You're a fast food sandwich place, period. I've been on an Italian sub kick lately and I work in the area. So during lunch I've tried a total of 4 Italian subs. None are so amazing that I'm doing back flips but there is a definite hierarchy of taste I can put together. Based solely on 1 visit eating an Italian sub I'd say these guys stack up 4th. Yes, that's the bottom. Why? Before i go into the why I'd like to say a word about sandwich shops. First off for a cold cut sandwich there are 3 core opportunities to differentiate yourself from the competition: The bread, the meat and the cheese. Oh and I guess a dressing of some sort (flavored mayo, etc.)... so 4! So let's look at why this place is 4th: The Bread - The bread was just so so. It pulled a little on the bite down and the taste wasn't really a factor... it simply served as a vessel. Disappointing really for a place that says it has East Coast roots. The Meats and cheese - Thin sliced is nice when they still put a good amount of meat in it. This had too little meat in my opinion. The taste of the meat and the cheese is good, it's just the quantity. The dressing - It's an Italian so oil and vinegar which really has no bearing on the review. Other notes - Too pricey for a sandwich. I'm also knocking them because they're a franchise and my perspective on franchises in general is that they're a business first and an eatery second. Anyone that has capital and is down for the risk can attempt this. Go here if you want to pay $10 for a 6 inch sub with chips and a drink and walk out thinking nothing special about the place. If you work in the area I would try these other places in order of preference for an Italian sub: 1 - Lomeli's Italian Restaurant 2 - Philly's Best 3 - Mammalucco's Note: If you think Subway is a good sandwich place then you might like this place. Glad my boyfriend and I found a Jersey Mike's! He's always talked about how bomb their subs are and all that but the only one he knew of is in AZ. One day, he said he's craving for some Jersey Mike's since it's been months since he last had it. I got curious and told him, "They probably have one here somewhere. The environment here is more welcoming than the other jersey Mike's I have been to and it does make a difference. I enjoy their turkey with provalone and Philly cheese steak. I enjoy a good hot sandwich bursting with flavors. Since working at a 24 hour fitness I was able to get 10% off. I got the turkey and provolone on wheat. The sandwich was a bit hard to eat because everything was coming out of everywhere, but it was so good I didn't mind. The sweet chili pepper paste thing has a kick to it. I enjoyed the red wine vinegar and oils. They also cut the deli meat in after you order, which makes the meat taste better. I love this place. I get a sandwich from there about once a week, sometimes more. What really sets this place apart from a lot of other sandwich shops in the area is the quality of their ingredients. All of the produce is really fresh every time I go there (i.e., the tomatoes are ripe and freshly cut, the lettuce is not yellow, etc.). Their bread, although limited in selection (white or wheat), is never stale. The staff is very friendly, and the place is always clean. I couldn't disagree with Jason P. more on the point of how much meat they give you (it's very generous), and his comparison of Jersey Mike's to Subway is laughable. Don't write this place off as just some franchise. Do yourself a favor and check it out some time. I am beyond disappointed right now. I ordered a grilled veggie wrap online at 11:45am and said it would be ready at 12:06. Walked in the door at noon and it hadn't even been made yet. No big deal. Girl at counter said they would make it right now. 10 mins later they still had not even started it. But everyone in line was done and gone. I guess I should have just stood in line. But I'm glad I went here because they have "sub in a tub", which is all the stuff without bread they put it in a plastic box for you + their philly cheese steak is really good - its too expensive for a sub shop. The secret ingredients that separate them from the rest of the pack is the oregano sprinkled on the sandwiches as well as the drenching of the red wine vinegar. Its layered with freshly cut meat... In my eyes there are sandwiches, and then there are cheesesteaks. I haven't yet been blessed with an opportunity to partake in the magic that is a cheesesteak from Philly. But I have had a number of cheesesteaks from many different places. Jersey Mike's takes it home with the Big Kahuna! Non-stop cheesy goodness wrapped in a warm 14" inch roll. Bursting with beef, grilled onions and mushrooms, red and green peppers, and loads of jalalenos! Ask for some of their chipotle mayo and you've got yourself one hot and spicy beef injection. The price is hefty for a regular sandwich... but Jersey Mike's ain't no regular sandwich. It's a hefty price for a hefty sandwich! This is my go-to place when I'm feeling the need to splurge. The lines are bit long around lunch and hot sandwiches take a bit longer than the colds. Keep that in mind when on the old lunch hours of 12 to 1. I've only tried their California Dreamin' sub on wheat "Mike's Way" with their new cherry chili sauce and it was pretty good. When you get your sub Mike's Way, I believe they add lettuce, onion, tomato, olive oil, red wine, and a mixture of dried herbs. It's definitely a delicious combination, but I don't think the sub as a whole was worth the price (around $7? for a regular). It would've been closer to $8 if they didn't give us the 10% discount for coming right out of the gym. Also, they are not quick at making sandwiches. It felt like we waited 10 min to move up one customer. I guess I'm used to Subway's efficiency. read more

I've only been here once, and I'd go again were the prices not so steep. The sandwiches are, admittedly, worth it, however. They're big and stuffed full of ingredients, but if you get it toasted, you had better eat it right away, because they can get soggy quickly. Their veggie sandwich was delicious, and the person I went with savored his philly cheesesteak like it was the last one he was ever going to eat (although he hoped it wouldn't be, because he really did love the one he got here). One of the better "Philly" cheese steaks in the area. mmmm.. w good ol white american cheese engulfing thinly sliced steak, (or chicken). The cold sandwiches are good and hearty.. You can tell the quality of the meat from the first bite. A little pricey compared to subway or quiznos, but the quality definitely exceeds the price difference.
