This is my favorite Jim's in all of SA. I went here a ton while I was a student at St. Mary's, but going back now, some of the servers still recognize me from before. Which led to our inability to inform the server that it was getting to late and we had an appointment to keep. Jim's Gift Cards. My senior parents enjoy eating at Jim's. It is one of those places, like Luby's Cafeteria and Cracker Barrel, that they are comfortable with the menu and can get a predictable meal at a reasonable price. My rating is not based on their food, but on the customer service of their home office. Shopping for gifts for elderly parents is always difficult and restaurant gift cards are a good solution. Additionally, gift cards are normally convenient to arrange via the Web when you live hundreds of miles away (and maybe have left things until the last minute?) Jim's web site did not have a web-enabled method to purchase a gift card, just the phone number of the home office. So I called them in hopes we could arrange the deal via phone and a credit card. The office staff was extremely helpful. No problem arranging a gift card to be mailed to my parents in San Antonio. When I mentioned the $ amount of the card I wished to purchase, they told me they had a Mother's Day Special going on that would give a $10 bonus on every $25 gift card purchased. So we split the order into multiple $25 gift cards and got a $10 bonus on each one. They didn't have to tell me about their special, I live 1200 miles away and would have never been the wiser. So for their honesty and helpfulness, I award them 5 stars. read more

She (manager) seem bothered by me that her employees were making it difficult to fulfill my order to my liking (never had any previous issues with this location maybe it's the weekend crew) And she (manager) also called me an ass hole for trying to fulfill my own wants. Jim's is always amazing. They sat us down quickly and the service was fast. Upon sitting down our waitress immediately took our order. The next round when she came to drop off our drinks she immediately took our order. The order didn't take very long to come out. I did like how you can order breakfast or evening food at night. I got the biscuits which came out really fresh. They were light and fluffy and big size to eat as a meal. Along with the perfect hot chocolate it was a cozy meal to have. This place gets a star for the biscuits alone! Mmm, biscuits. Anyway, my boyfriend and I were visiting a couple of friends in San Antonio. We got in later than expected (I have a habit of stopping at any place that looks interesting while driving), and took a nap at our hotel before heading over to our friends' apartment. They suggested going to Jim's to grab a bite to eat, because it was too late to go anywhere else, really. Our waitress was really excellent - very friendly and attentive. Three of us got breakfast food, one had to be a rebel and get the chicken barbecue ranch sandwich, or whatever it is. I like Jim's restaurants for breakfast. Given a choice, I'd prefer a Greek diner in New England for the great prices, or a joint in Miami for a colada with pan Cubana con huevos y tocina. We needed a safe place to get out of the rain and feed them so we could figure out our next move as to get the young couple some help. I know the Restaurants close at 10pm but we walked in at 945pm. We were rudly introduced by a gentleman who seemed to be the GM. It almost felt like he was obligated to be a brute security guard and was telling us we had to be sat, ordered, and done eating in 15 min. Now I've been in the service industry for many years and a Manager for 5 of those years. No matter what chain I worked for, if a customer was sat 1 min before close, they were going to get food and service just like any other day. The demeanor he had made the 4 of us turn around, walk out, and lose buisness for this location. Local favorite and consistently good. Been visiting this place for over 30 years, breakfast is my favorite time to dine here. Lots of coffee and suits every craving, even breakfast tacos. Ask for the tortilla to be a little toasted. Perfectly made biscuits, bacon and eggs. They will split the biscuit butter and toast if for you if you ask. Silver dollar pancakes and a hit with the little ones. Hamburgers are tasty and thinly sliced onion rings are so good! Tortilla soup a good close to the day or grab a slice of pie for your nightcap. She had a lot going on. 3/5 Biscuits: They kind of fell apart... it was hard to fork them and they just crumbled apart in my plate. 1/5 Hash browns & Eggs: The hash browns were a bit too soggy and cooked thoroughly for my taste. But that's just me, someone who prefers the Swiss Rösti more than the American hash browns. The eggs tasted fine and were cooked well enough. 2.5/5 Pepper steak: It didn't have much flavor at all and wasn't really seasoned either. Felt like something they just took out frozen and put in a microwave. I guess that's just me expecting too much but come on, at least prepare it from scratch (ground beef) and season it well. I asked for medium rare and got well done. I've had better. 2.5/5 Atmosphere / Cash out: It's Jim's. A light take on "America's Diner in the 80s" with a touch of Texas and of course magnetic spoons and knives. Paying was nice with a receipt showing what we ate and how much each item cost. Do not get steak with shrimp from this location (hillcrest and fredricksberg). I thought the shrimp looked a little funny, but ate the damn things anyway - 12 hours later I'm experiencing food poising. Everything I ate prior to this was stuff at home I had many times before without feeling sick - this was the only thing new - and it looked questionable. Other than that the potatoe tasted like no potatoe I've ever had, and steak was very weak. My wife got breakfast from here and is fine, and hers actually looked good. I love Jim's and have fond memories of when it was a 'treat' to go to Jim's before or after church with my mom in the '70s. It is a San Antonio staple. The chow has not changed. They are famous for their exemplary service, counter eating, tortilla soup, the frontier burger, any breakfast menu item a d the senior menu. We were in town for my dad passing and ate at the 410 / Fredericksburg location last week Tues, 24 Oct at 11:30am. Adriana was our server and she was spot on, very polite, nice, professional, and attentive. If I could put zero stars, I would. Wanted to have a nice lunch with my family ended up being the worst. Once our food was ordered they brought each plate one at a time.. the point at eating at a restaurant is that so we can all eat together. So they would bring 2 plates and then 17mins later they brought out another 3 plates. I had ended up sharing my plate because they ended up giving us the 6th plate 15mins later. So when they brought the 6th plate my friend was no longer hungry. So our waitress felt bad and asked if we could take it off our ticket, comes back and says the manager did not want to take it off. Even though we didn't even touch that plate. Overall the only thing that was good was our waitress. The food wasn't even good. They served my burger and fries on a butter plate.
