We were visiting from California. Thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. My husband had been craving authentic Texas chicken fried steak breakfast. Jim's is a San Antonio Staple and you absolutely cannot go wrong with it at any time of day. Coffee, Breakfast, Dinner, Supper or even a late night excursion. The staff, food and cleanliness are pretty darn hard to beat. Jim's used to be one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat, but this location is straight awful. Staff seems like they have better things to do than help customers and the food has declined in quality. I wish the restaurant would take their customers more seriously and fix the problems before this place gets worse. read more

Went to Jims for Breakfast and service started out good but once they got busy service went downhill. The waitress messed up on our eggs three different times. Finally I had to go to the manager and he was helpful but food was mediocre . I will stick with breakfast tacos or home cooked breakfast next time read more

Yes, very dated and filthy. Booth seat was covered in previous diner's food. Food dried on table and rim of table. Window near our booth was totally smeared with hand prints, and glass up front near games and kids toys machines was really gross. Had a small business meeting, so had coffee which tasted like brown water. Never got to the food. Couldn't imagine eating there knowing how dirty it was. Finished our meeting and left. read more

Let me start by stating that I love Jim's restaurants and I frequent a few, especially on San Pedro/Hildebrand and Broadway/Brackenridge. This place is deplorable in the service because it completely lacks. We were seated fairly quick and things started off just fine, until the food came. The check was dropped off shortly thereafter and we never saw our waitress again, till we in the process of leaving. It was at time that we were able to get a tea refill. Several times we saw our waitress and others standing around talking to one another in front of the kitchen area. Oblivious to the full restaurant where we sat, being ignored. This is not service that is to be expected from a local eatery. This is the second time I've been at this location in the past year, due to the shopping nearby. Won't be back. Today it was the eggs! I had the rustlers round up, it was probably the best three over medium eggs I've had in years. My hats off to the day chef, whoever was in the kitchen cooking the eggs they were absolutely perfect thank you. A Waiter (one in particular) and some waitresses have gotten lazy at this OL JIMS. Food is also hit and miss. Veggies aren't the freshest and sometimes taste like the can they come in. On a Monday night at 9 PM, there were 5 other patrons. Slow service by someone who obviously did not want to be there. The cold food was warm, the hot food was bland and we waited long enough at the counter that I considered walking out without paying. I worked in the restaurant industry and left zero tip, which speaks volumes. Skip this and find somewhere to eat where they take pride in their work. read more

The food was horrible I ordered a chicken and swiss with rice pilaf and corn the only thing that came out good on that order was the corn it came with the role that was hard the chicken was undercooked and the rice pilaf was hard so the lady brought me a side of potatoes and the potatoes were running the gravy was the only thing that gave it taste I was very disgusted with it all my son had a pizza which had an eyelash hair on it and it was not cooked right it was overcooked it was a really bad experience I will not be returning the only thing that was good out of that whole restaurant was the waitress she was awesome she apologized for everything but yet I still paid my whole ticket I will never be going back again to top it off when I paid my whole ticket I ordered a slice of chocolate cream pie and for the price they gave me a small palm-size piece it's not even a regular sized slice of pie so yeah if I were you guys do not ever eat at this place until they get new cooks it was a very horrible experience read more

I love Jim's, however I'll stick to the Huebner location. This location is seat yourself which I have no idea why.... Wait staff sees you walk in yet does not notify server in the area u sit in that they've got a table... After waiting about 6-8 minutes and several different servers smiling at me acknowledging me, yet do not show any sign of trying to do anything I get up to go flag down a waitress. Strike 1 -and a VERY big strike for this location... Waitress that helped us was sweet she did let us know that we weren't her area and the server who was supposed to help us was over yonder at another table (she was one of the servers who smiled at us earlier than proceeded to clean tables which was why I didn't think she was our server.) anyways, good food but service sucks than toward the end of meal our original server comes by asks if we need to go boxes but never comes w/them, my son got up went to get them. I crave for some home cooking and wanted to try Jim's since I move here a year ago. This restaurant reminds me of an old Denny's. The service was good. The place is not busy. You get seated immediately and you get service right away. I ordered the Friday special which is fried fish. There is nothing special about their fried fish. A lot of breading not much fish. The cole slaw was OK. The meshed potatoes came without gravy. I have to flag down the waitress for gravy. The gravy comes out very watery. My daughter had Chicken fried chicken. The chicken almost looked burned to me. It covered with very thin watery gravy as well. Both meals came with Texas style toast. It was hard and dry. The price is very reasonably. But I would rather go to Black Eyed Pea instead. They have much better food with unlimited fresh rolls and cornbread. If not for the service, I will only give their food a one star. read more

I eat at Jim's a lot and am always pleased, however this particular location was subpar. First, we had to wait ten minutes to be seated. We arrived around 10:30pm and there were tons of free seats. They had their "please wait to be seated" sign up..so we waited. Finally someone took notice and told us to sit where we wanted. (Okay, we were made to stand up there for nothing) I'm really hungry at this point, and ready to order. So, after getting our drinks, the lady comes to take our order (15 minutes after we sat down). I order the same thing every time...a #1 Burger. The lady proceeds to tell me that they are out of patties for the burgers. WTF?!?!?!? We ask for a minute to decide on something else...then we walked out. That's completely ridiculous! Not only was the server completely apathetic about everything, she rolled her eyes at us as she walked away. Save yourself the grief and drive a few miles north to the huebner location. read more

This is a good place similar to a Denny's great for late nights I got the veggie omelet plate with a side of bacon it was ok my only con would be that it was very under seasoned so the inside was a little bland a lil salt and pepper and it was back on track...my husband got the 10oz steak plate he loved it..we would definitely visit again. read more
