Why was this a 2 star review? , well the roast duck was quite salty ( 1 ordered 1/2 a duck and there were mostly fat and skin ) and the BBQ pork was hard and just ok. Maybe I was just unlucky but the duck and pork was not what you expect from a restaurant that specializes in Hong Kong BBQ. The restaurant does provide a nice bottle of tea and the worse experience was the server was rushing me out of the restaurant when I was not quite done. The server was quite rude and told me there were "customers waiting". LOL I ended up paying $62 for myself alone for the duck, BBPork and chow fun so my tab was not your typical $20 meal. Jin Gege Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken just recently opened up inside the Greenhouse Marketplace Shopping Center and it's not bad! I've been here twice now and the food is pretty decent for what you receive. They specialize in HK Style Soy Sauce Chicken, among many other things. We've tried their Hong Style Soy Sauce Chicken, Salted Chicken, Roast Duck, and all have been very good. Is it top notch food, no, but it does the job. Also, tried the Marinated Tofu and Double Boiled Soup, not bad! This place is on the smaller size, so the wait times can be long depending on when you come. The service is nothing special, typical Chinese service, but they have a lot of workers, so getting assistance is not hard. Date Night. When you just want to enjoy a normal chinese cafe without breaking your budget. Prices were acceptable. Food was tasty and the staff was busy but friendly. My favorites were the salted bake chicken, roast duck, spicy cabbage stir fry, stir fry beef or lamb with chives, and the spicy boiled fish. I came here twice in 1 week so I was a little surprised by the ratings on Yelp. The barbecue pork was very fatty so I didn't enjoy it, one piece was enough for my to taste the flavor. Very very soft but a little too much for me. Porridge was a little bland, wish they came around more often so I can ask for some white pepper. If you're a fan of spicy Sichuan flavors, this is the spot to go! The flavors are authentic, aromatic with peppercorn, and spicy. I personally loved the pickled fish dish that made my lips pucker in the best way possible. Be ware that there is skin on the fish filets but you can't taste it! Went here for dinner with my wife Sunday night because Fusion Delight was packed. We walked in, there were a few tables available and got seated quickly. A mandarin speaking staff came by and gave us a tablet to order. While navigating the e-menu, I accidentally clicked the back button and got locked out of the app, requiring a PIN to regain access. I was gonna look for help. Maybe the tall skinny guy at the counter noticed and came by to help immediately which I initially appreciate. Unfortunately, he was rude. He literally told me not to "blindly clicking around" in Cantonese as if I am an incompetent user. The menu app is designed in a way making it natural to use the back button.The rest of meal wasn't really enjoyable any more. I was planning to tip them 10% but they have a mandatory 15% service charge. For the food, we ordered 3 dishes, a combination BBQ plate with soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork and steam chicken, a fatty beef tomato soup with rice noodle add-on, and a pan-fried garlic snow pea leave. Despite expectations for quality BBQ at Jin GeGe, the tomato soup and snow pea leaves stole the spotlight. The soy sauce chicken and steam chicken were average and could be found elsewhere, while the BBQ pork is disappointing with a taste resembling boiled meat with sauce applied afterward. Notice their name is called Soy sauce chicken, so that is the item we have to try and after talking to cute girl behind the counter, she recommends the salt baked chicken. So I decided to go half soy and half salt. Damn those chickens were really tender and silky smooth. In my humble opinion, the salt baked chicken has more favor and taste better than the soy sauce chicken, we licked the plate. This review is based on a Doordash experience: Soy Sauce chicken (2/5) - This arrived ice cold and had a bit of a chewy gelatinous feel to it. Flavors were very mild. BBQ pork (2/5) - The BBQ pork pieces were very small and were mostly fat, so half of the bite would be quite hard like jerky, the other half would be super soft and fatty. Flavors were very underwhelming. Half roast duck (3/5) - The roast duck was also ice cold, but I can tell it would've been pretty good if warm. The skin was almost crisp, but under the skin was a thick layer of fat, and then bone. All but 2 pieces were exactly like this. Not a lot of meat was served. Flavors were great, but so little meat. Beef Chowfun (3.5/5) - The only thing that was warm aside from the tea. Good chew to the noodles, good flavors. I really like the green onions on this dish. Hong-kong Milk tea (4/5) - Pretty standard HKMT. I ordered iced, but on the receipt, it showed hot. Not sure why they included an option if it doesn't pass onto the kitchen. Great place for Chinese BBQ! The best thing on their menu and what they're known for is their soy sauce chicken. They've always been pretty busy when I go so I'd recommend calling them in advance with your order and then picking up if you're getting to go. They have a sit down restaurant area as well! For to go pick ups, there's some seating while you wait, near the cash register. The soy sauce chicken always tastes flavorful. I tried it for the first time a couple months ago and was surprised the soy sauce chicken and roast duck were good. I normally do not care for soy sauce chicken but at Jin Gege I liked its flavor, and the chicken was tender. However, the prices are a bit high. I was taken aback when I saw that six chicken wings cost close to $15. I will order from here once in a while since it's a bit expensive. Noise so bad this place should be a health hazard. The laundromat 2 stores down is actually quieter which says something. Jin GeGe and Yao Yao technically share a space separated by a wall. Very disappointed with this experience and restaurant as we intentionally went from Milpitas to this place to buy their Chinese bbq and soy sauce chicken. This place is losing our business forever. If we live close to them we would go return it unfortunately it's not worth the drive.
