Decided on JJ Bean today bc of the very neat historical building they reside in on Davie street. The place was filled with laptops and Globe and Mail which I kinda like. The menu is very straight forward, these peeps do coffee and they do it damn well. I ordered a medium almond milk cafe latte. I usually don't like the bitterness of many coffees but this one needed no after market additions. Smooth, full, nutty... Just a very nice cup of coffee. The staff is pleasant and proud of the company and its obvious and admirable. I will go back when I'm in town again, just would have liked to have a seat and observe the atmosphere. I originally order my drink to stay in, which is served in a beautiful wide mouth cup and saucer but when I noticed all the seats were occupied I requested my drink to go and with no qualms or attitude he intuitively organized my drink to go. Great Americanos. My favorite make and brand. Baked goods like muffins and cookies are really tasty. I go to the Bean on Davie, Commercial and sometimes Victoria/Powell where the roasting beans are a pleasure to the nostril region. I sympathize with Christie S review. Sometimes staff can seem like being non communicating is hip. Once in a rare while staff act like they are being forced to work against their will. Once at the Davie location had a cashier nearly throw a piece of banana bread at my wife. She was not a happy woman though 2/3rds of the time staff are pleasant and even try and spark up a little conversation. Go for the Americanos just watch out for banana bread. read more

Best place to study in yaletown. Super chill place and the entire staff is really friendly. I'm shy and awkward so it's hard to be friendly back but they're still always nice to me. Great coffee and muffins as well. read more

Relaxed attention to detail is the ticket to great coffee at JJ Bean. I was happy to hear that a location was opening in Yaletown, the closest one to me before was Granville Island and that just ain't gonna cut it! It just tastes... better. This location is a bit odd in seating, lots of seating inside, limited seating inside with a store that has a similar "L" shape. Doesn't encourage much for personal interaction. Pastries were limited. read more

Coffee drinkers forgive me, but I hated my coffee. I just got a small coffee and did my usual sugar and milk. I took a taste and it was sour. I thought maybe the milk went bad, but I think it was roast they used that day. read more

Forget it here. Go to the other JJ Bean franchises. This one has inconsistent espresso drinks and filthy conditions in the food areas.

Average coffee, great baked goods, horrible service. I don't know where they find such surly staff. It must be a job qualification. I've only had one decent customer service experience there. I only go here when I absolutely have to. There are 3 superior shops with better coffee and service within a block. I can't understand why people frequent this place except for the patio. You may enjoy the coffee more than I do, but the staff and service are unacceptable. read more

Their coffee is amazing, cannot stop smelling the aroma. The price is fair. Staff their are friendly. There is only one power socket, make sure your computer is charged before visiting. This is always my first choice in Yaletown. read more

Great coffee and the staff are very friendly. The prices are comparable to Starbucks and other similar cafés but the quality is much better. I used to go to this location literally everyday but then my company got a espresso machine and by changing to this it has ended up saving me a lot of money. So if money wasn't an issue I would still be going there every day. Overall I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good coffee in the yaletown area. read more

I'm not usually big on promoting chains, but JJ Bean on Davie is really awesome place in Yaletown. Their coffee is always spot on. The set up on the cafe is really nice with a little separate room in the back, a bar for the 'coffee shop office squaters' and outside seating for those beautiful summer days! I especially love their pastries here. Their croissants are AMAZING and they have a giant selection of giant muffins which I'm pretty sure they bake right in house. Every morning the smell of freshly baked muffins outside of this place is incredible. Highly recommend! read more

I used to like this coffee shop and went in to always grab a snack before getting my hair done in the area. Today I tried to grab a breakfast wrap in the morning and I was ignored by the guy behind the counter for a few minutes before basically forcing him to take my order. Then he forgot to even take the wrap out of the fridge and put it on the the grill. After waiting 8 minutes someone tried to slip it in discretely. I asked a girl behind the counter if that wrap had JUST been started, and she tried to say "oh yes that's the breakfast wrap!" And I said no, I know that, I want to know if it was just put on the grill now. Then she checked again and said "Oh yeah it was." When I asked for a refund cuz I was already running late waiting 8 minutes while they forgot to even put my wrap on the grill the girl behind the counter said "so do you still want it or not?" When I told her about the shitty service she just said "I don't know? Sorry that happened but I don't know what you want?" and just gave me a look like I was causing so many problems for her. What I want, girl making minimum wage behind the counter, is to not give you $10 to treat me like shit. read more

So I order an Americano on a Saturday afternoon. An emo with a toque takes my order, and relays it to the barista lady with the raggedy dreadlocks. I pay and wait for my drink. There is only 3 people ahead of me. I watch Battle Star Galactica over there in slow mo making drinks one by one while in the background a team of stick figures stand around posing like working for JJ Bean in Yaletown is the most prestigious and coveted career of their lives. 15 minutes go by and the people ahead of me got their drinks and even the person after me. Both the cashier and barista is oblivious that I am still waiting for my freaking drink even though Ive been standing in front of them the entire time. I had to remind them of my order which apparently the barista forgot. Do I get an apology, of course not. Did it still take another 5 minutes to make my drink, you betcha! read more

The Eastside blend is what's on tap for the espresso. Ordered a medium americano. The tasting notes are given as very dark, bold coffee with hints of chocolate and a couple other flavors I don't recall. Those flavors typically associate with low-acidity coffee which is what I want. This coffee is BOLD! Holy s**t!! Right off the pull this baby smelled like it should melt my hair (smelled really acidic) so I didn't touch it for a full minute or two. At this point I was thinking this one was going to be a write-off. My first sip was a blast to the upper palate, skipping over the tongue and concerning me that my taste buds would be wiped out for the remainder of the cup. I'm guessing this baby was pulled a bit too hot? I took the next sip in a bit more refined manner which is when I could tell the smell thankfully did not equate to taste. The coffee was indeed low acidity but possibly the most bold low-acidity coffee I've had in recent memory. There was something I could not quite put my finger on and didn't like - it wasn't burnt, just possibly something I didn't like. It mellowed very quickly as it cools and after 5 min, it's a mild chocolaty brew. I want to try this one again to see if I can hone in on what I liked and didn't like. I'll probably try to hammer down as much as I can 1-5 min after it's pulled, temperature permitting. Timing is key here. There are a number of the new JJ Bean blends that I want to try out, this was one of them. read more

Loses a star because their drip coffee isn't as good as it once was. They decided to get rid of all dark roasts except one so they can be "origin based." Bad decision. Also, no Wifi. Fantastic location and patio though. Would like to see some low fat food options but muffins are good. read more

I've been going to JJ Bean almost daily now since the beginning of the year. The baristas are super friendly and I'm always greeted with a smile. Especially when they've gotten to know you - as they've gotten to know me seeing as I practically live there now. Coffee is delicious, the latte art is beautiful, baked goods are scrumptious and the patio is perfect for people-watching on a sunny summer's day. It really is as good as it gets! read more

I will go out of my way to have a JJBean latte. They are consistently beautiful in appearance, with perfect foam, just-right temperature, and a smooth, mellow flavour that is less bitter than Artigiano's but with enough body to satisfy my love of a rich coffee aroma and taste. They also have absolutely to-die-for vegan-friendly berry muffins. My friend and I were very familiar with the North Vancouver location, where Jonny, in particular, had given us beautiful lattes and very friendly service for a couple of years. We also knew the Main Street location, where I had talked to several of the baristas, Jesse for one, even going so far as to remember me the next time we went. Then, I moved to Yaletown, and one of the huge bonuses of the move was that I could now walk to JJ's at 402 Davie Street. I'm an older woman, and sometimes, young service people seem to barely notice us senior folk. But, this has never been the case at JJ's. Imagine my surprise when Jesse, now managing that location, again remembered me, even though we hadn't visited for a latte in quite some time. On another day, a barista reached forward, shook my hand, and said, "Hi, I'm Eric." He had no idea that I knew Jesse, nor does he still know that. A girl barista there has not yet told me her name, but she notices my little dog waiting outside, and always asks how she is doing. Honestly, I have come to count on a friendly greeting and a perfect latte every time I visit JJ's. The baristas work very hard and I believe they genuinely care about the people they serve. Maybe, those people with the negative comments might consider that everyone has a less-than-perfect day once in a while. A smile, and a moment to let the baristas know that we see them as human beings, and not machines programmed to serve us, would yield more satisfying results. read more
