I don't understand why this place doesn't have power outlets. The patio is pretty nice though if you want to just sit and chill. Inside of the shop is quite limited in terms of seating. I love this location! I am glad that there is finally a great place with great coffee and real espresso / latte artists / people who care about what your coffee tastes like in Yaletown! I've never been disappointed in any drink I've ordered: traditional cappuccino, americano, even their tea is great! As well, living so close, I always see the same owner/manager (?) who greets us with a Real smile and hello. I don't want over-the-top, and you don't get it at JJ Bean Yaletown. The place is down to earth - I like that. My only one small complaint is that I can't wait for the Summer hours (open past 6pm) and hopefully open until 10pm at least! During winter hours I have definitely missed stopping in to relax after work or dinner. I have hope of summer hours coming soon though as it looks like they are adding to their patio area! The croissants here are some of the best in Yaletown. Fresh, flaky and buttery. And the espresso drinks are excellent. Strong and delish. No watered down drinks here! You can order a true machiatto - it's short & a bit bitter but it's authentic. There is a seating area upstairs with tables large enough for two people to comfortably sit at and that's quite rare in this neighbourhood. I haven't had any complaints about service. I once got a London fog minus the vanilla that makes it truly a London fog. I asked and they happily fixed the order. Complaints: the menu is a teeny tiny sheet of paper right at the counter. Ummmm yeah. That made me feel like a fool the first time or two, when I wanted to know what the choices were. Recently decided to stop at the JJ located at Sutterbrook in Port Moody was after had a walk so a needed a warm cuppa to warm my bones lol. To my desapointement i was given a sort of cool/weak/waterycoffee taste beverage resembling all but a good cup of coffee. I felt like asking the server to stick it in microwave for 60 sec so I could at least get heat I needed, but she was too busy fixing the pastries and ignored my presence. This JJ Bean is one of my favorite places to host impromptu work meetings. Sometimes it can be difficult to find seating, but the ambiance is just right for a productive meeting. Coffee is great & Americanos are even better. I stopped in JJ Bean this morning and they had a Ham & Swiss turnover available for breakfast. I had a two night stop over in Vancouver while on a road trip through Canada. In need of excellent coffee (because I'm an unashamed coffee snob from San Francisco) I set out to find a place that could live up to my SF expectations. There aren't too many coffee shops in Vancouver that seem to truly posses that Sightglass/Blue Bottle aesthetic, but that doesn't mean the coffee is rubbish, of course. I popped in to JJ Bean on Davie and couldn't be more stoked with my experience. The barista was amazing; he even served a small glass of ice water with my properly-sized 10oz cappuccino. Well done. The atmosphere was pretty great too. They have a bar-type table that was perfect to pop up my MacBook and get a couple hours of work finished. Great music, good lighting, all awesome. Check it out. These days JJBeans are springing up in Vancouver ! It was first time going to the Yaletown location and the patio is amazing place to people watch under the cherry blossom trees. As I recently ran out of beans to use for my mokapress, I bought a bag here and had it grinded. For all I can remember, the name is forgotten, but the description has it called "creamy" - Yes, that's how I like it! JJ Beans don't have any stamp card but you do get a complimentary medium coffee. I've changed my mind. I'm now a big fan of JJ. Especially the beans. This is my stop of choice when it comes to buying fresh beans. I usually order 340 grams of Espresso JJ, which is enough to fill my hopper at home. The espresso brews up rich and creamy on my home machine. What can I say that isn't known? JJ Bean is a Vancouver (and now Toronto) staple. Their beans are flavorful and ethically sourced, including single origin from small farmers. They self-roast. Their French Press is the same price as drip. Their self-baked goods are uniformly excellent, especially the croissants. We have a lot of choices for coffee in Vancouver. I'll be honest- I've only tried a small fraction of them. But in my experience so far, nothing else is as reliably good for my daily cup. If you plan to be a regular get one of their cards. You get an extra 10% on reloads. Then in December they have a 3-day sale where you get 30%. For this location specifically: it's a bit small compared to some other locations but it has a nice patio. Literally. - Cacophony which was supposed to pass for music might not appeal to anyone who isn't high on something major. - The kids that were working there look like they haven't had a shower in months much less received any sort of rudimentary training in front line work. I come in here about 3 times a week for my morning coffee. The staff are always pleasant, humorous, attentive, and accommodating (very patient with my half-caf soy american misto with one pump of sugar-free vanilla order... I know, I know, I'm rolling my eyes at myself too...) Drinks are made quickly, and they've never gotten my order wrong yet. The decor is nice (though the JJ on Alberni wins for ambiance and decor, in my opinion), the space is clean, and there is always reading material on hand (Globe and Mail or National Posts from previous patrons - oh yaa!) Finally: the Vegan Chocolate-Zucchini Muffin. Food of the gods. And they use real espresso machines, not electronic ones (like Starbucks). 'Nuff said. read more

Good coffee, slow service. I love JJ Bean coffee but I often walk past this location because it can take over 5 minutes to get a small latte...good selection of baked treats, wraps, drinks and other snacks. They seem to be fully stocked even in the afternoon which is nice. Almond milk available for those looking for a milk substitute. Nice patio if you have time to hang out and enjoy a coffee with friends. Right on a corner so great for people and dog watching on a sunny day. Avoid during busy hours though, more than once my coffee or latte had a significant amount of grinds in it and milk wasn't warm enough because they were so busy they try to pump orders out as fast as possible... One note: the washrooms can be pretty dirty...yes I know it's a coffee place...but the staff should also realize that and be on top of cleaning. More than once both the stalls in the washroom were not useable and I had to call staff to tidy up even before being able to use it. read more

firstly, I have to say the staff are nice and I like their coffee better than cafe artigiano, but this is not their best location. It's great on a sunny day but you don't want to be there when it rains. There are a lot of bands playing beside them on the CBC stage and you would think that would add to the ambiance, but it actually doesn't. I'm an unabashed fan of JJ Bean. Their non-fat lattes are the best in town -- so rich and creamy, I keep thinking there was a mistake. I'm sure the staff is tired of me saying, "This is nonfat, RIGHT?" This is my favourite location because the staff is very friendly (they put up with my nonfat latte questions, for example). So, I have mixed feelings about the coffee/ambiance/service here. I like the patio, and the Americanos, and have been helped by friendly staff before. But there's still a kind of unease that I feel about patronizing this location of JJ...I don't know what it is. Something about it just feels extremely contrived. Like, guy compiling code on Macbook pro, yuppie couple with tiny dog, suits tapping away on Blackberries...are you fo' real? Also, major points lost for not having wifi. Anyway, I'm still giving this location of JJ four stars, primarily because I discovered the breakfast bun here. TEAM SAVOURY, WHERE MY PEOPLE AT? I'm not a fan of sweet things in the morning and/or as the sole component of a meal/snack (after meals is a whole different story), so typical coffee shop pastries are decidedly not my thing. It's really disappointing that after 4 different visits I have not had my opinion changed about this location. It was so bad the last visit that I had to write a review. The service is very poor. It is slow, unfriendly, and I find it appauling that I have to listen to baristas having full conversations about their late nights out while they're taking too long to make a coffee and blatantly ignoring the next customer. Perhaps JJ Bean should spend some money on customer service training for their employees. This is a business. If this was my business I would definitely want to know that this is how my staff is representing. Is it a chain that is spreading through Vancouver like an infectious disease? Totally. However, it is local and their coffees are 99% of the time bang on for my tastes. Pretty sure the staff hasn't really turned over in the last few years at my location, and they are all relatively awesome. I hope this means they treat their employees like stars, which always makes you feel good about continued patronage. *Fingers crossed my moral assumption isn't faulty.* My only complaint is that I am pretty sure they lace their grilled cheese with some sort of addictive drug. A very trendy looking coffee shop. Is it ok to say maybe even a bit posh? Looked great, but not quite cozy, at least out in the open area. I was greeted with a hello and smile when I walked in, always a good sign. It smelled great in there too, as a fresh batch of muffins had just come out the oven! I had a small latte, and it was cheaper than I thought. It was not bad, perhaps a little stronger than I usually prefer. There was a long bench, with people seated alongside each other all with their Apple laptops perched on front. Beside me sat a lady browsing he Internet on her iPad. Definitely home to the Apple crowd (I say, typing this on my iPhone!). Good for a quick coffee, but not ideal for a quiet coffee and gossip. read more

Yet another solid JJ location. Not a ton of seating, and can get overrun at times. The sun-exposed patio seats on the east side of the building are at a premium (though there's always plenty of room on the dark, noisy, street-facing side).
