OMG amazing sushi ! The fish is so fresh, there's so much variety, lots of spicy options (just my preference), and they exemplify fantastic service. The biggest thing in my book is keeping our waters filled, especially eating so much lol. They do such a fantastic job. Also, it's rare to find tempura ice cream nowadays...JJ's got it! I love that they have unique rolls as well as unique appetizers that you can't find anywhere else (i.e. tempura jalapeños). Love this place and will be coming back! Our group of 6 wanted to try this new place considering we have tried every sushi joint in Reno. The fish was alright, mixture between fresh and not. Of course a group of us, we are definitely going to order everything so nigiri was alright, the rolls are definitely different. When we got our unagi, it was pretty cold and weird taste to it. We can also hear them microwave a few stuff in the back but nothing majorly against that. Overall, a good place to go in the Vista and Sparks area. I came here with my best friend and her mom when I came to visit from the Bay Area and I was pleasantly surprised! First of all the decor is really nice and the staff greeted us like family!. I decided to order the spicy veggie which has cream cheese, Jalepeno, inari, tamago, and spicy mayo on top! This roll was amazing! The rolls here are unique because they are much thinner than the sushi I'm used to in Cali but the owners know their sushi! Fresh ingredients and so flavorful! I would highly suggest people visiting this area to try them! Also locals as well because this sushi restaurant is family owned so you should all support them! Ive been here twice now and I have been very satisfied both times. They have great service and the staff is very friendly. I especially like going here because it feels more like a family environment oppose to other sushi restraunts that have a bunch of teens working. The only thing I can really complain about is how much rice they use on their rolls, it's gets you uncomfortably full too fast. Besides that they have great sushi. read more

After looking at yelp reviews, I decided to try this place out since I was craving sushi. Right when I walked in, I was greeted right away, and was asked where I wanted to sit. I decided to sit at the sushi bar. It appears the thing to do is order the all you can eat, so I did the same. The all you can eat was great. They give you a variety of options, for rolls and appetizers. I rememeber eating various rolls, and mussels. I liked how their rolls did not have a lot of rice, which makes it nice so you can actually taste what's in your roll. The service was good, the chefs always made sure people were taken care of. Absolute best bet in town! Finding an excellent AYCE sushi place that also serves Japanese entrees for a group of 15 on a Saturday at 7pm sounded like a tall order. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of speaking with Jess, the manager of JJ Sushi, on the phone and she totally took care of us! Even though the family-run restaurant was popping, she had a large table all set and ready for us at 7pm. She helped us with the menu, brought out delicious samples of their must-try items, and got our many sushi orders out to us very quickly. The AYCE at $21.95 per person for dinner is a fabulous deal - cheaper than Hiroba and Sushi Pier, and the sushi rolls were bigger and much more tasty, too. MIckey Mouse, Donald Duck, Paradise, Killer, soft shell crab, Rainbow and California were the names of some of the rolls and nigiri that we tried. Jess also recommended the tempura ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious. For the wonderful food and service at an amazing price, our group raved about how JJ Sushi totally hit the spot. A solid Meh. I can think of 4 or 5 other sushi places in Reno that, instead of leaving you disappointed, leave you over the top happy. Rolls fell apart, tempura shrimp was rock hard, every roll tasted the same, limited items you can order for lunch, mussels came out of the shell and were dry and hard etc. read more

When we walked into the restaurant it was busy but we were not being helped in a timely manner. When we got out table we ordered 5 rolls and they only brought us one at a time, even before we got our ginger and wasabi. The crystal shrimp roll was awful. No flavor and the shrimp was burnt. After waiting abiut 15 minutes for thr rest of our food we decided to just get up and leave. I am glad i didnt waste my money and actually pay for it. Just terrible. First visit was excellent. Great food and excellent service. Second visit, awful. Slow service, waitress wasn't focused, could not keep up with the small amount of business they had.Three apps ordered, all came out at different times, and all tiny portions. Sushi chef forgot two different orders. They serve frozen fish here. They actually stocked the fish cases while we were there, and the fish was frozen solid. So disappointing! Since the grand opening I have been coming to JJ sushi almost on a weekly basis. I have been to almost every sushi joint in Reno/Sparks, and I have to say that this one is by far the most satisfying. The customer service and the food is without comparison. The fish is always extremely fresh and their rolls are always unique and delectable. They have a great variety of appetizers and the desserts are included in AYCE. After my experiences here, I plan to remain a patron to this place as long as I eat sushi! I hate to be the bare of bad news and the first bad review, but... THIS PLACE SUCKED!! I would not recommend this place to anyone. The fish was very fresh but the sushi to rice ratio is wayyyyy off. When eating a role the entire thing should not be rice with a little piece of fish here and there. Their spicy tuna looks and taste like cat food. The teriyaki sauce that they put on 98% of their rolls tasted more like the fish sauce. It was absolutely disgusting and ruined the meal. We sat at a table (two of us) and the server was on top of drinks and appetizers, but being during a slow time, with only one other table and two people at the bar, two sushi chefs should be able to at least get one roll out to us within 30 minutes. All of the appetizers were very hot, however they don't tempura properly, it is very thick and deep friend. We also swapped out one of the items in a roll for salmon, and we literally got a huge chuck of salmon. Salmon is my favorite but this was just all too much and over powering, the presentation on almost all of the rolls was really lacking. After the horrible experience, we both left and were very sick the rest of the night. It was not worth it at all. read more

We were rolling through town and looked for a good place open Easter evening that was good for kids. We called and they accommodated our large party almost immediately. The rolls were plentiful and absolutely delicious! Our favorite was the creamy salmon roll which was lemony and crunchy and amazing! The hand roll we tried was the volcano, which was also beautifully done. I had the poke plate and the mussels, which were wonderful. We left totally stuffed and very happy after the kids ate several pieces of mochi. One got spilled on the floor but our server saved us all from tears by bringing another promptly. I really wanted to like this place more than I did. The sushi was good and the roll choices were nice as well. There was a lot of choices, but not too many. It still made it hard to pick between rolls. The reason for the -1 star is because about 15 minutes after we came in a group of about 10 people say down at the table. Our chef took over their table and getting her attention was very difficult. She acted annoyed when we asked for something more. She snapped at one of the employees to make us something and it was clear he was new and she continues to snap orders at the poor guy. read more

So I'm from California and Sushi is one of my favorite foods and I've had sushi in 1 million places in California. No places in Reno come close to anything you've ever had in California. This place was delicious. They had fresh fish and tasty rolls. The rolls are smaller, but it's all you can eat so you can just order two if its a problem I suppose... The people were friendly and the desert is far better than average for a sushi place. I couldn't stand the place that used to be here, Sushi Time I think it was called. Another plus with this place is most of the commonly ordered rolls are on the lunch side, so paying dinner prices is not necessary. read more

My daughter took me here for a "fathers day" gift. It was absolutely awesome. The restaurant was clean, the chefs for lack of a better word were clean, nice and always on top of things as were the hostess. The sushi was fresh and every roll ordered was quick. We decided to try after reading the reviews. It did not disappoint as the sushi was wonderful. The tempura zucchini and pink lady were the best!! Many different rolls to choose from and not just the usual ones that you get in town. The service was a bit slow because they were extremely busy for just opening and were a bit short on staff but they apologized on several occasions. The taste of the Sushi more than made up for a little delay in service and the tempura green tea ice cream!! Will be back soon. read more

I love what they did with the place. Its clean and inviting. Like the other reviewers said, try the tempura zucchini. We also ordered the calamari appetizer which was also prepared perfectly. Fish is very fresh and is balanced well with rice (rather than too much rice and not enough fish). They are new owners, and take a lot of pride in their restaurant. The female sushi chef developed the menu and does it up right! They are a little short staffed behind the bar when busy, but the waitress is so sweet and attentive. My reason for 4 stars vs 5: -Much of the menu has deep fried fish, and I like my sushi fresh, so my choices are more limited (however, the choices I do have are very good). -Dinner menu is larger than lunch menu. I do not like this. -Ginger doesn't look real (artificial coloring, maybe?) But it does taste good :) I'm sure they will continue to get more and more productive as word gets out about the delicious experience tucked away in a little strip mall. I hope they find some excellent chefs to help out :) I also hope that they maintain their quality and quantity, as I've experienced both falling short at other of my previously favorite sushi places when they become successful. Really love what they've done to the place since the last owners! They updated the furniture and paint so it's much more of a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The sushi is also really delicious and they get the rolls out to you quickly! The servers are good at refilling and clearing plates. The chefs are quick, friendly and even pretty funny! Service is good. Food mixed. I went a couple times and both experiences were different. The first time was very good and the second not so good. The difference was the amount of rice. When nigiri and the rolls have too much rice, you lose the taste of the fish. My second visit had way too much rice! It would be better to raise the price a couple dollars and put less rice in the sushi than to keep cutting costs. Doubt I'll be going back. There are other sushi restaurants that keep the rice content down. read more
