I've been getting Bomber sandwiches for 20+ years. They are hands down the best subs around!

The only thing consistent about their food is that your going to pay a lot for getting diarrhea.

Jo-Ed's has literally been in Arlington, the same location, for at least 30 years. And judging by the looks of it inside and out, it hasn't changed much. In fact, I can attest to the fact that they haven't redone their wiring. Plugging in my laptop just now I crashed a circuit and their TV and music shut off. Whoops. Either way, it ain't a bad sub. I got the Custom 6 inch with ham and salami on Italian with Swiss cheese. They loaded it up with pickle relish (interesting touch), seasoning, lettuce, tomato and spicy mustard. It wasn't the world's greatest sub but it wasn't the worst. For a local joint with history in a dieing part of Arlington it was pretty darn good. I'll be back. read more

Here is a nice relaxed little place that I just stumbled on while in Arlington. I read a few of the posted Yelp reviews before going in. It does smell good inside and the decor is unique. I ordered a six inch tuna on Italian bread with chips and an iced tea. One reviewer complained about portions being stingy. This was not an issue, the sandwich ingredients were of good quality and generous in quantity. They even had a picture of Chuck Norris who might be presumed to be another satisfied customer. What's not to like? Give this place a try. read more

I loved this place as a high school kid in the late 70's and early 80's. They had more locations and I visited #4 on Altamesa in south Fort Worth. I'd occasionally skip PE with a buddy at 10am and walk there before I had my own car to eat an early lunch. I liked their ham and cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana pepper sub, with spices, oil and vinegar. When I walked into this business it was near closing time and there were no other customers. The college guy at the counter was nice and I placed my usual order. The owner lady shows up to prepare the bomber and I told her about my previous experience. She said that the previous owners had expanded a bit from the one location that exists today. She said that she's owned this location for 20 years. As I was ready to leave another lady walked in and told her a similar story. She started off by saying how excited she is to return. The owner didn't share her excitement and seemed agitated that the lady thought she recognized her from before and probably because two customers in a row visiting her establishment for its past greatness. I give this place 4 stars because the food and the atmosphere with WWII bomber pictures are top notch, but I would have given it 5 stars if 'Mrs. Friendly' was more friendly like the previous owners. I hate that she dashed that ladies experience by being a stick in the mud with a bad attitude. Someone out there should buy this lady out, expand locations by numbers as in the past, and reestablish this DFW icon to it's former glory. read more

Reading Kolya R's review, I feel like I have little left to add. Paying a little more money to eat local, but getting less quality in return. I'd liken it to a Subway sandwich. Jacob J's review suggesting they steal some of Quizno's business by toasting the subs is spot on. There's just little in this sandwich to write home about. I can't knock the building. I love old, worn down establishments and JoEd's is just that. It's been here for as long as I can remember and it shows. Where Koyla R's review really hits home is the lady behind the counter. I haven't been in a little over a year or more, but apparently her attitude didn't change much from 2006 to 2010. I went in with a large group of friends and I wasn't allowed to have a sandwich until I used my real voice. Out first, I thought she was kidding. She wasn't. She literally would not let me complete my order until I spoke in my real voice. Look, I know my voice sounds downright stupid to people when they first meet me. It's awkward and stilted and it's awkwardly set somewhere between low and really low. I know. I know. I was teased about it enough in my early teens, I don't need a sandwich lady to give me a hard time as well. Whoever was in the back thought this whole situation was hilarious and was yucking it up from wherever they were. Either way, she didn't believe that my voice was real. She finally let me have the damn sandwich after I faked an impossibly childish, girly voice. I can't give the sandwich or the joint just one star. It wasn't the worst sandwich and I have to hope that the rest of the staff isn't as insultingly rude. Two stars it is, I guess. read more

I'll start with what matters most, the food. It was nothing special. If this rating was solely based on the sandwich I would give it 3 stars. It definitely wasn't bad and it did taste fresh. The inside is decorated with what you would assume. There are plenty of bomber airplanes hanging from the ceiling. The walls are plastered with military posters and various US flags. But what stood out the most to me was the anti-government rhetoric you'll find throughout. Aside from a couple posters, they also have books by Glenn Beck and Ted Cruz lying around (or for sale). To top it off they have a glass case to sell survival gear. Because as the sign says, "invest in yourself before the government takes it." I understand that this is Texas and many of their clientele will feel like they're at home around this stuff. However, it didn't sit well with me. When I look for lunch I don't want anyone's political agenda shoved in my face. If this were the only sandwich shop in town I could probably ignore it, but it's not. So I won't be back. read more

They are good, filling, fairly priced for what you get, but I wouldn't dare give it 5 stars...I've had much better sandwiches elsewhere. In Arlington, I would say that Schlotzsky's makes a sandwich that is more to my liking than Jo-Ed's. Even so, it's rare to find a sandwich like this in Arlington. These bombers were great until today. I got a 12" Supreme Sandwich. There was almost no lettuce and almost no pickle relish on it. I don't think it had any onions on it at all. There was no meat or filling on the ends of the sandwich. It was like eating bread. They were having a bread delivery issue, so I thought that having whole wheat bread instead of my usual white was the issue. Nope, it was because there was only all totaled about 1/2" of total filling and no filling at the ends. Jo Ed would be embarrassed and ashamed. The girl making there sandwiches needs to retrained. I drove 30 miles to get a sandwich If this is what I can expect in the future, I'll find another amazing sub. read more

I'm the sub queen. Let me tell you that these are the best subs in Fort Worth and Arlington. I definitely recommend getting the double bomber because the regular just doesn't have enough meat on it. I have come here for years but when looking for a menu, I saw a review about the bomber with meat sauce. Said "don't change a thing". We were able to find a paper menu in the office. It said (inside a starburst) ORDER TOP SECRET MEAT SAUCE. Later it refers to it as Top Secret MEATBALL sauce. Well, ordered it today, and they had no idea what it was and acted like to was some weird order! Lol. I am hoping this was a new employee. If this meat sauce isn't a "thing", well, it should be! Ordered a Regular Bomber. The bread is good but they were stingy with the meats and cheese and even failed to put Pastrami in there at all. Also I prefer the meats evenly distributed throughout but this place put the ham on one end, the beef in the middle, and the turkey in the other end (and no pastrami at all). The flavors and bread were decent but the other issues will keep me from returning or recommending this place. read more

Delicious! As soon as you walk in, the delightful smell of fresh yummy bread hits you. It's a little unassuming building but it's worth the trip down Pioneer! I had a veggie on Italian bread - get the Italian bread!! It's sooo fluffy and mmmmm. The sub was surprisingly flavorful, filling but not too doughy/heavy. They season every ingredient perfectly but not heavy-handed so the sub is still fresh without getting soggy. My co-workers had the supreme meats sub on Italian. Definitely will be returning. A "Local's" sub shop that serves good sandwiches with good flavor (including the meats, veggies and distinct sauces), accompanied by good chips (Miss Vickie's Sea Salt & Vinegar) at a decent price. It was the perfect lunch time spot for a quick time-out from work with a teammate. How we both fit into that little formica booth I still don't know, but I'm glad we did as we enjoyed a good, solid lunch in the process. If you are looking for a veggie/pickle sandwich this is your place. Got the 12inch and my sandwich lacked meat heck and I was suppose to have 2 kinds of cheese on my sandwich there was one. Located around some really ethnic restaurants in the industrial area of western Arlington, this one doesn't really put up good food. It has been there for quite a while. They offer typical large bomber subs. I'm sorry to bring this real mom-and-pop joint down, but it just doesn't offer quality ingredients. I think of it as a larger Subway. The price is really reasonable, as $6 gets you a foot long PACKED with meat. Nothing special, just deli meats and some dry cured meats, cheese, oil, and veggies. Bread is ok here. Overall, it is deserving of a 2 because it is acceptable food, but it's just that other places offer so much more variety and character than these subs. read more

I can't imagine that no one has rated this place. It is the best of roadfood, a delicious and consistent sandwich of my youth. How I miss the nights of watching movies and having mom come up with a bag of bombers. I don't understand the negative feedback. This place rocks! Everything is fresh not delivered by a food service. Sandwiches are delicious. No, you don't have a long menu to look at--this place serves the sandwiches that are have been proven to be enjoyed for over 22 years.
