I don't understand the negative feedback. This place rocks! Everything is fresh not delivered by a food service. Sandwiches are delicious. No, you don't have a long menu to look at--this place serves the sandwiches that are have been proven to be enjoyed for over 22 years. BUT, do try the new veggie sandwich with avocado, by the way, it is scrumptious! Go to Subway if you want the same old same old--go to Jo Ed's if you want the best. Jo-Ed's: a sandwich shop with an agenda. I first visited this Reagan wet-dream a few years ago. Fox news on the t.v., contemporary christian music on the speakers, and tea party posters all over the wall. I felt like Jim Carrey in that scene from Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, when he walks into the room with animal heads all over the wall. I almost had a panic attack. But I muscled through to try the sandwich my father ate and was so fond of when he was in high school. I immediately noticed the place was full of on duty cops during their lunch break and hoped that they weren't down wind to the freshly smoked joint I had just enjoyed. The lady behind the counter scared me a little but i stood tall . I ordered a double bomber with extra pickle (a nice perspective on relish) like I owned the damn place. Upon my first bite, the Evangelical right-winged atmosphere faded into obscurity and I was hooked! There is a familiar tang to these bad boys and it is loaded with delicious cuts of meat. I would eat one of these things off of Rush Limbaugh's naked bloated body. Mmmmmm! read more

Really good basic subs, quality meats and cheeses. Friendly employees and quick service. Only real problem is lack of variety and the minimal seating. The variety issue can be solved by building your own sub but I would like to see more hot sub options besides the meatball sub. The lack of seating (probably seats 20 or so) isn't an issue during off peak hours. read more

Pretty decent sandwich I had. I ordered a turkey sandwich with provolone cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, jalapeno peppers,a shake of dried red peppers, mayo, and spicy mustard. I love spicy if you can't tell. Lol. I really liked their Italian bread. Better than subway bread! They were pretty nice but the place seems a little old or dated. May need a remodel or something. Obviously they are dog lovers. Had some dog donations and pictures of a bunch of dogs on the wall. Lol. All just my opinion.... Check it out yourself! read more

Hands down THE BEST tuna salad sandwich anywhere. It's perfect in it's simplicity. It seems like plain old tuna and mayo, but the bread, fresh tomatoes and romaine lettuce, oil, dill relish, and seasoning make it something really special. Especially the seasoning!! I have got to find out what kind of seasoning that is! Its like a regular seasoning salt but more herb-y, and it's amazing. I've been here several times and always get the tuna or chicken salad. One day i'll get around to trying some of the other meats, maybe their signature bomber, but the tuna is just SO good! $7 for a 6 inch sandwich alone is kind of pricey (the combo with chips and a drink are about $9) but for such a great sandwich, and knowing you're supporting a wonderful family-owned and operated small business makes it so worth it. And they're always so friendly and welcoming. read more

I have been going to Jo-Eds Bomber for almost 35 years. IMO they have the best sub I've ever eaten. The only drawback in the early days was the family that owned the place. There was nothing even remotely friendly about them, but I would put up with them long enough to get one of their subs. The family that owned the place sold it quite a while back, and the lady that bought it is extremely nice and friendly, and continued with the same recipe. I live in McKinney now, but I always stop and get several to go. read more

Background: I grew up in Arlington, and Jo-Ed's was in my neighborhood. I've lived in Austin since 2005. As such, in the classic "keeping Austin weird", I eat at more local restaurants than chains. Since my parents still live in my childhood home, I still have access to Jo-Ed's. In fact, a visit doesn't go by that I don't ask for my folks to bring me Jo-Ed's to Austin or we get them when I'm in town. Additional Background: My career requires that I travel all over the country. Such travel has introduced me to the varying extremes that come with eating away from your home. You can eat at the chains and have some semblance of normalcy, or you can step outside your closed box and experience different things. Jo-Ed's is one of a kind and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything similar in DFW. As Henry Kissinger said, "The nice thing about being a celebrity is that if you bore people they think it's their fault." As such, unfortunately, chains have become the "celebrities". If you want something generic, predictable and boring - go to Subway and drink Bud Light and blame yourself. If you want something original and delicious, go to here and brew your own beer. Those who complain about Jo-Ed's not being like Subway or Quiznos and the like simply don't have good taste. They probably prefer an Applebee's steak to Ruth's Chris or a McDonald's burger to Hut's. The point is that some people like easily repeatable mush and others actually have taste. read more

Best darn Eastern Style sub in the Dallas area. Subway and Quizno's can't hold a candle to this place. I used to get eastern style subs at a place in Plano, called the Sub Shop, and that place was great. Bombers is the only eastern sub style sandwich that comes close to old Plano Sub Shop. I go almost every other week. If you like a sandwich with great fresh/soft bread, great meats, fresh vegetables, relish, and great condiments, this is the place. I just had a turkey/cheese sub today, and it was one of the best I've had in a very long time. This place is always very consistent on quality. read more

I had my first Bomber from Jo Eds in the early 80's and have been in love with them ever since. Although I've been away serving in the military for the past few decades, I always try to make it by for a Bomber whenever I get the rare chance to come home. The Bomber has a distinctive taste that you come to crave after your first one, and it cannot be matched for quality and value. I hope Jo Eds is around for another 30 years, at least. They should expand and give Subway (generic subs!) a run for their money. read more

I've been eating at Jo-Ed's since about 1976 and I've got to say that you won't find a better sub sandwich! I love this place and the German lady that owns the place is a real doll! I now live in central tx,but when I'm in Pantego I make sure to stop in and eat lunch! I wish I had a triple bomber right now! read more
