I've been going to Joan's for years. The prepared food and pastries are good but it's not like it used to be. Another complaint is when ordering coffee to charge $1 extra for a splash of non-dairy milk is a little much. I maybe understand charging extra when it's a latte and most of the drink is made up of the milk but for a splash at $1 I don't agree with especially since most coffee shops don't charge for that. I don't know, I think I'm weird because I must be the only person in LA who isn't the biggest Joans on third fan. I have tried - several times but I just don't love it. It's okay, but the place reminds me of Dean and Deluca in NYC and not as great. Tuna sandwich is alright but I've had better. Breakfast foods are all meh. Cookies are nothing remarkable according to my kids. So I just can't say I love it enough to recommend anything specific here. Food was good, as usual, but poor customer service this visit. Had finished our breakfast, and still not received our coffee, so asked an employee. When we did get it, and asked the same woman if there had been a problem with our order, her response was "Yeah, it's the morning, and everyone wants coffee," before walking away. After finishing my coffee, I did bring my cup up to the counter, to see if I could get a little drip coffee from the thermos. What a consistently good choice! We love Joan's on Third and we have never even set foot in the restaurant. All of our experiences have been via DoorDash, yet everything has been stellar. We have tried the breakfast burrito, hashbrowns, New York breakfast sandwich, smoked salmon bagel sandwich, the homemade potato chips, and so much more. The only thing I don't "love" is the Chinese Chicken Salad, but it is indicated as Joan's #1 "Most Liked" item, so I imagine it is just a matter of preference. Wow! I actually did not expect this to taste that good. I'm usually not a sandwich fan, but my friend wanted to try this place out due to the multitude of positive reviews about this place. We all decided on the short rib sandwich to-go, based on Yelp reviews and recommendations. The short rib sandwich comes with melted jack cheese, sweet red onions and arugula on grilled country white bread; aka grilled cheese with short rib inside! It OOZES with oil, but it it quite the comfort food. The grilled bread is crispy! The combination of ingredients works very well together, and I'm so glad that there's arugula to balance out the sandwich and clean out my clogged arteries. The short rib quality is also fantastic! Yummy yummy yummy. Shout out to the staff who let us order 5 minutes before closing. We did not know that it closed at 4, and were walking away when one staff member called us back. The only issue I have is the portion is never consistent. And time to time they skimp out on the chicken portions where you'll get like 3 pieces and they'll put really little lettuce. I came here for a Sunday brunch with friends. It's a very cute restaurant/bakery/cheese shop. Perhaps I ordered wrong but I wasn't impressed. I had the avocado toast and a bowl of fruit, as well as a latte. The latte was great, the avocado toast was so-so. Next time I think I'll go with eggs or pancakes. The salads look really good too. The service wasn't particularly great, they messed up my order, it took forever to come out, etc. I was still kind of hungry by the time we left... They added small cubes of granny smith apple to balance out the richness of the aioli and offered a bit of crisp, and chopped walnuts for crunch. Worth mentioning is the house made pickle. Joan's on Third is a charming store and restaurant! I actually bookmarked the place for the ice cream, but I forgot why! Oops! I wanted to try the Cornflakes and Candied Coffee Bean flavors! Next time, I will have to try some! Free parking was found in the nearby neighborhood on Orlando Ave, which was fine with us since Nadine spotted a pair of Angel Wings by Collette Miller on the side of a brown building. So, the spot we found was perfect! It was also just about across the side street from Magnolia Bakery and we went there after lunch here. TIP: There is free valet parking behind Joan's on Third, for their customers. Wished I had known beforehand, but then again, I'm glad we parked where we did! This place is hopping! It wasn't too bad when we first arrived, but it was swamped by the time we left. There is patio seating, but we chose to eat indoors due to the heat. When you are ready to order, you place your order at one of three registers. There's one at the bakery, the sandwiches, and near the front. Speaking of registers, the gal who took our order could use a little bit more customer service training! Everyone else was helpful. Our lunch included: *Asparagus Soup - it reminded me of thick Split Pea Soup minus the little bits of peas. *Lox & Bagel - the Salmon was really good with the capers & tomatoes. The seasoning was thick on some of the veggies and none on others. The onions were cut in quarters so they'd remain as a chunk. I found them to be too hard to cut and eat. I liked the assortment of veggies they grilled, but I'd skip these next time. I really liked the layout and the variety of goods! Everything was yummy and beautiful! The service from the cashier could improve - I think she was a bit distracted as she spoke with staff during our transaction... The convenient restroom was much appreciated. The environment was a bright, clean white theme. There were a lot of things to look at and they were for purchase! We scored FREE parking on Orlando Avenue, near a painting of a pair of Colette Miller Angel Wings! The Wings are across from Magnolia Bakery. Lots to do and see in this part of town! My wife ordered the turkey club and I had the tarragon chicken salad, which we were so excited to try. The sandwich ended up being just a regular sandwich. Was it worth 15.5? Absolutely not. You can make that same sandwich at home. I recommend just doing that. The tarragon chicken salad looked and tasted like a regular salad. Quite simply, I had the best salad of my life here. Everything was chopped to perfection and it was easy to mix it to fully integrate everything. The stainless bowl was large and looked great. We sat outside and people watched, but didn't see anyone famous sitting with us (tourists can wish, right?) The interior space is a bit hectic.
