Great espresso! I'd travel from CT every day for an Americano if I could afford it! The last time I went made me vow never to go to the Grand Central Joe's. With a line of people out the door and nowhere to go after ordering, the girl taking orders sets what appears to be my drink on the counter at just about the time it would normally take for my drink to be made...she doesn't say anything..but I go for it...seconds later as I'm fixing the drink with some cream and sugar she starts SCREAMING at me. "THAT ISN'T YOURS!!!! THAT IS NOT YOUR DRINK!" She continues to roll her eyes at me and gave me looks of disgust until I was able to get the hell out of there. COME ON! It's a cup of COFFEE for crying out loud! I know this is your job...but really? Get a life Drink Order Girl! Don't try to do your regulars favors by ordering for them before they get to the counter for speedier service...considering we ALL had to stand in that line to pay for our drinks. I wanted to take my tip out of their stupid tip jar and go on with my day. I highly recommend the espresso but watch out for the drink order hipster Nazi. She's the least pleasant of all the people I've encountered there...maybe she needs to lay off the coffee a bit herself. read more

A great place for a really good cup of coffee. They use a stir brewed method that makes the coffee taste yummy. It's always fresh and not acidic like Starbucks. They have a couple of locations throughout the city, but I usually end up at the one in Grand Central on my way to work. The staff is also nice and attentive. read more

Cash only! Inevitably there's always someone on Friday mornings who forgets and misses out on their morning coffee, so consider this a friendly reminder. I'm not as big a fan of this location as the others in the city, especially the UES and UWS locations, as it's really crowded and there's no good place to wait for drinks like lattes. Personally I prefer a lighter roast coffee than Joe's, but there are people in my office who swear by it, and I know at least one guy who has the beans shipped to his second home, so it's all a matter of taste. read more

This is my go to coffee shop for some of my afternoon coffee break times. I am a big fan of Joe coffee and have tried so many of their locations in NYC . However , every time I go to this particular location , they are super nice to customize my latte to a one and half shot of espresso that I request . long lines are synonymous with joe's in grand central. it is the best coffee available in grand central. no contest there. the service is as friendly as a busy busy location can be and fairly consistent quality. the only downside is that the croissants they bring in from bien cuit are soft and not at all like the croissants i can buy directly from bien cuit... and most of the desserts and pastries here are not too delicious. otherwise, this order-only location is solid. read more

I have to agree with another customer who talked about the change in customer service since some of the old staff left. There are two new people working the register (a black male and a black female). The black male doesn't seem to know any of the products and I have to constantly repeat what I want. It's as if he's never worked there before. On top of that he overcharged me for my drink on a recent visit. I didn't say anything because I assumed the prices went up, but when I got the same drink later in the week, that confirmed my suspicions. Sure mistakes happen, but he confirmed the drink that I wanted and then proceeded to charge me for a larger drink. Ridiculous. You better believe I disputed the charge with my card company too... They need to get it together with the coordination here because it's becoming annoying, and the attitude I get when I come here is starting to turn me off. Then they have another person working next to the person working the register. That person takes your order, but then you have to re-state what you ordered again when you arrive to pay. I mean can't they relay what the customer ordered accordingly? I'm sorry but all of the repeating over and over shouldn't be necessary. Take the order once, relay what the customer ordered to the cashier and keep it moving. It slows things down considerably, and it always seems like they are uncoordinated almost on purpose so that I have to repeat myself again and again and be aggravated. If things don't change here, I may be forced to take my business elsewhere. read more

I've practically switched to iced coffee since coming to NY, no matter where I go. I usually get a venti iced coffee with milk, sweetened..and Joe's version was pretty good. Had their latte as well and that was ok. They only take cash but they have a card to get you a free coffee after so many visits. Service isn't Starbuck's fast and the line gets ridiculously long after lunch so if you have time to wait I would. read more

I get decaf, whole milk (sweeter than skim), cappuccino from here all the time. Decaf can make for weaker taste but not here; it's delicious. Espresso is not weak (like Sbux) and not too strong (like Blue Bottle, although I love that place, too). Well balanced with a touch of sweet richness from the steamed milk. Tried to get three shots of Espresso over ice, was told they only do two or four. I said ok to four. They showed me the paper cup they were going to put it in, i asked for a plastic to-go cup because when you put an iced espresso in a paper cup it eventually starts to fall apart. they said they would have to charge me for an iced latte then. Really?? there are too many options like Macchiato, Rize Coffee and dare i say Starbucks all within a two minute walk to even consider this option they gave me. I'd read great reviews.....are you crazy? Place is cool (no free wifi) but I couldn't finish the coffee as it was AVERAGE. Life is too short for bad coffee. It's ok I guess, don't want too sound harsh but have to be honest. If I can't get through even half of my cup it's not a good sign. read more

Coffee is great but please tell me why I have to instruct each person that places my coconut creme donut in a brown bag that they need to keep the wax paper on the donut? Without the wax paper the icing from the donut ends up in the bag and not on the donut. There's a better chance of salvaging the icing from the wax paper. I love Joe! I always have the latte hot. Then on one of the many hot days this summer I decided to try the iced latte. I love them both. I haven't been to Starbuck's in ages and I can't think of a good reason to go back. Joe has renewed my faith in being able to get a good latte outside my home. And the staff are great. i always past grand central on my way to work and i knew the day after new years day the place will not be too crowded(yeah). good hot and cold beverages prepared, with workers who do a great job and have excellent customer service skills. i dig the coffee house decor with no seating and its a small joint , so order and go. yes its pricey and crowded , but the decaff cappy and the nicely displayed pastries, especially the donuts, muffins, loafs cake etc, and damn its worth it(cash only) . the ice coffee which i took to work was sweet and had full taste of mocha. they also have some sugar free scones, which i tried , but the donuts were better. listen if you are inside grand central station and are in a yummy mood for a nice assortment of coffee from around the world and pastries which are finger licking good, then come on down , wait on line and enjoy. p.s the place has a nice small simple coffee joint decor, but the taste of coffee and donuts are huge. read more
