The drinks are good, and not to pricy. It s normally pretty empty, only on days where Brandeis or Bently have an event it s packed. It is also packed when either of the Boston sports teams plays. The food is ok, for a bar, nothing outstanding, and the service could be improved. read more

I ate lunch at Joe Sent Me once and it is automatically one of my favorite pubs. JSM has a friendly, welcoming, atmosphere and probably the best fish sandwich I've ever had. The bun was substantial but it did not interfere with the Haddock, which tasted very fresh. The only knock on JSM is that it's not very fast but that's because the kitchen -- which is right next to the door when you walk in -- is tiny and it gets busy. But overall I'd say JSM does not play around with their food and service so you should give them a try if you can. read more

So the ambience here is not the best, but in terms of bar food, it is absolutely delicious. The goat cheese burger is amazing and so are the sweet potato fries. This is our go to spot for burgers. I've had some of the other menu items and they're ok. Slightly above average if I had to rate them. My only complaint with the food is the appetizer portions are a little small for the price (yes, we're fat kids). But the burgers more than make up for any drawbacks in other areas. The meat is actual ground beef instead of the nasty Sysco "mystery meat in a giant tube" that seems to pass for a burger in most of the Boston area. Fries are hand cut and tasty. Our two favorites are the Joe Perry Project (love the name of that one) and the Black and Bleu. Best part is they'll actually cook them medium for you (something I wouldn't try at most places-again due to the mystery meat issue) So def order your preferred temperature. read more

Atmosphere is your classic divey , hole in the wall restaurant. The pricing is is not to bad.. $10 for burger type sandwiches with fries. Food quality is ok.. I had a pulled pork sandwich sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, I like it a bit drier and spicier. Roll was ok toasted , not too doughy. They do have a nice selection of beers on tap, however I had a jack and diet coke, light on the coke.., ;) . Service was average, nothing special ..we didnt have to wait too long for so that's a plus. Also note that we sat outside on their "patio" under a pergola and it looked like it might fall so watch where you sit..out there. My co workers and I usually go on Wednesday nights for trivia. The service is hit or miss, but the food was surprisingly good given the atmosphere. The outside looks nice and clean, but it is a bit dark and worn on the inside. The prices are very reasonable and as I said before, the food was actually good. I've order the burger with BBQ twice and it has been delicious every time along with the Cajun fries. There's a decent selection of beers which keeps my co workers coming back (but mostly for the trivia). There seems to be a good group of regulars that come each week. If you are looking to be entertained this isn't the bar for you, but there are TVs located throughout. read more

Used to be fantastic, loved the guy at the bar who would always remember my drink. Has gone downhill - bar and waitstaff (they're the same most nights) don't ever seem like they want to be there. No personality. Perfect example - won free beers from trivia only to be told once we got our check that we couldn't apply them to the beers we had gotten. Makes no sense. Food keeps it from getting one star, fries and burgers are great. Better to go to their Cambridge location or Mad Raven where the service isn't so rude and the bar tenders aren't so mean and rude. read more

I really give it a 3.5 It looks a bit like a dive from the outside but is okay inside. The music is based on a jukebox that is eclectic to say the least. The place isnt huge and I beleive they outdoor seating during the summer season. There are a few tv's and tables, with a bar in the middle. The food is suprisingly decent. They have good burgers and fries. The beer selection is alright, nothing that will blow you away but more extensive than bud and miller lite. The crowd is a weird mix of college kids and locals. I always see at least one person stumble out who is out-of-their mind drunk. It's not a bad hangout if you want to get away and have a few. read more

I can walk to Joe's so let me put that RIGHT out there; I've been there a LOT, and it's great to have a cute little neighborhood bar. So the service is a little slow sometimes; the food isn't always spectacular, blah blah blah. But it's got some great stuff. Trivia is fun (though it doesn't always start on time); they have GREAT beer on tap (though not a huge selection), and a cute outdoor patio (smokers allowed; ick). But whatever, because the fries are AMAZING. I am not kidding, they are the best in Waltham. Also, the prices are decent, and they have avocado available on many of their meals. Don't let the small kitchen fool you, Joe Sent Me has some of the best bar food in the area. My personal favorites are the Jo-Jo White pulled pork wrap and Joe Perry Project burger. They have a great selection of beers and spirits, as well as "Joe Bowls" that are served in fish bowl-like glasses for sharing. JSM a classic "come as you are" bar. You'll see people in suits to college students celebrating the end of a hard Tuesday of classes. The patio out back is a bonus, although limited in space. read more

Wednesday night trivia is a lot of fun!!! Get there early, especially if you have a group of people because the place fills up. The bartender Kathleen is awesome, we always get great service. Went here cause other restaurants had too long waiting... they were slow. The food was AMAZING! Our group had a variety of dishes from beef to fish to vegetables... everything was delicious. I'm mainly just reviewing the food. .. but that's kinda the best part about this place! They have the tiniest kitchen you've ever seen, but somehow crank out some awesome food! The Buffalo wings are some of the best I've had, and the burger is always really juicy and full of flavor! The service is always pretty good. And in the summer they have a little fenced in patio perfect for wings and beer in the sun, no view to speak of but you re still outside! My husband and I hit up Joe ' s a few times a month! This place is a hot spot for my college friends and I during the weeknights. The place is nice and cozy, the DJs are usually good, and the prices are sweet. There are cool food deals that can be beaten around town, but overall it's well run. Sometimes the bouncers can get a little testy, but then again crowds of drinking kids could shorten anyone's fuse. Generally, the staff is pretty cool, though the bar gets slow, again from the crowds that are there late night. Overall a cool, middle-of-the-road place! read more

In response to Mathew M's glowing review of Joe Sent Me (and his only review on Yelp for that matter), I would like to state that being in customer service for a good 15 years, I am anything but unpleasant when dealing with people in bars, restaurants, stores, etc., since you know, been there, done that. Like I said, I do not want to come to a bar to spend my money where people are mocking me, laughing at me, whatever they were doing. I honestly don't even know what brought their giggle fit on. So if at any point I seemed unpleasant or that I was unhappy with my life, it was because I was not happy about being laughed at. I ate the meal I ordered, paid my bill, and even tipped these ladies even though they didn't deserve it. I give this bar/restaurant 2 stars mainly for the service. I come here every other week or so, my most recent trip on Sunday was by far the worst. The bartender there was extremely rude and looked like she couldn't give a f*ck about working there. My friends and I were 3 of 7 people there, I still don't get why it took her over 10 mins to come to the end of the bar to ask us what we would like to drink/eat. Oh wait.. she was too busy on her phone and talking with her coworker badly about the customers who just left. When her coworker looked over at us he said "I think those people are ready to order", she responded "they won't die if they have to wait another 5 minutes", thinking that we couldn't hear her. She came over and we placed our order, the wait time for our food was normal. I ordered the mac and cheese and I just stared at it.. because it wasn't made at all the same way that I had it 5 days prior so I was confused. I asked her if it was the same mac and cheese that's on the menu and she said "wellllll that's mac and cheese right?", in a sarcastic asshole tone. Then she continued to talk badly about the cooks there, which in my opinion, you shouldn't do at the place you work. I had two bites of that mac and cheese and couldn't finish the rest, the pasta was not cooked completely and it was drowning in sauce. My friend's steak tips were also not cooked completely, but did the bartender ask how everything was? Of course not, because she was on her phone. Needless to say, this place is good for drinks only because you can't really screw that up. read more

Love this place!!! My husband and I are from NJ but were visiting the Boston area. We were looking for a casual place to eat lunch. I was hoping for a decent burger. We passed this bar on our way to a steak sub place and it looked like the kind of place that would have good burgers. So we changed plans and stopped in. It was very early so we were the first customers there. I loved the atmosphere immediately. It had an old brick wall and tin ceilings. It was spacious. My husband got fish and chips which was terrific. I got a burger and it was all that i hoped it would be. We also shared fish tacos which were awesome as well. We had a great experience and ww wished we could have come back for the nightlife because it looked like a fun bar with lots of fun unique drinks to try. Highly recommend. read more

So, I was planning a birthday party for a friend and thought trivia might be a nice change (Tuesday night trivia night). We are a group of 10 and celebrate birthdays almost every month. Disclosure- we are "mature" women. Well anyway I visited the restaurant to check out seating and food prior to the party. It's not a fancy place - definitely a city pub atmosphere. The waitress I spoke with was terrific and together we picked out the best seating for our large group - and she reserved the table for us. We were delighted when we arrived and there was a reserved sign on the two back booths to accommodate our group. So fancy! Also, based on some questions I had I left my name and number with the waitress to call me back. The owner called me himself, asked about our party, offered to cook off the menu for us, made some suggestions re logistics. The night of the party: So much fun, waitress was outstanding - not easy to serve 10 women drinks when everyone arrives at a different time! We ordered hamburgers, sandwiches, salads - a variety - everything was great. I had the hamburger, which was outstanding - good fries. My friend ordered the cole slaw side - yummy and a big helping. Owner came over at the end of the evening, introduced himself, and asked if we were happy with out night - Absolutely Yes! read more
