After a weekend of indulgent eating, I needed breakfast that didn't make me feel bloated. Joe's place had just what I needed. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was friendly. When we arrived, it was not too crowded, but it filled up quickly. We were served water and coffee almost immediately upon sitting. We placed our order and we served in just a few minutes. Hubby had the full plate of biscuits and gravy. The gravy wasn't hot and normally there is sausage in it. It was pretty nondescript. I had the plain oatmeal. It could have been cooked longer. 3.5 stars. Saturday, November 2, 2024. When coming up to Paso Robles every few years to do some wine tasting, we usually ate breakfast ate Vic's but they are no longer in business sadly. So, the lady at the hotel told us about Joes when we asked her where we can now have a breakfast where the locals would eat. We don't like tourist restaurants. Anyway, the food was pretty good here this morning. They need to offer turkey sausage though. not everyone wants to eat Pork sausage. Parking is a little tight in their lot so if you have a really large car, you're not going to like it but you can park on the street also.. This place used to be a Mexican restaurant. I think it was called Lolos. We ate there once when it was Lolos but I don't think we liked it. It wasn't real Mexican. We would come here and eat again. While wine tasting in Paso, the wife and I tried this place for breakfast on the morning we were leaving. We were not disappointed. The vibe of the place is very homey and feels like you're in someone's house. The owner clearly has tremendous respect for veterans and all things military as the place is decorated with images all over it. As a veteran, I really appreciated this. The servers were on top of us with coffee as well as service. They worked symbiotically to the point that we had no idea who our waitress was, but it didn't matter because they all worked well together and were super nice. The portions of the food were as huge and I enjoyed my chicken fried steak and eggs. My wife didn't really care for the chiliquilles but that was the only miss for this place. Will we go back? 100% yes! We'll definitely have to try some other breakfast options but if you want a hearty breakfast, especially before you go winetasting, this is the place to go! read more

It seems Joe's Place focuses on great breakfasts, and they sure excel in that department. The decor is a bit dated but nostalgic, with limited counter-seating as well dining tables throughout. The staff interacts with the patrons & each other, and the interactions make everyone feel welcome and adds to the dining experience. The service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Potatoes are a small part of a breakfast entree, but today, both our hashbrowns and country potatoes were outstanding and elevated our meal to an excellent one. My only gripe would be the porkchops were the thinnest I've ever encountered, but there were two on the plate, and they were very good. Drove up to eat breakfast at a local restaurant which was closed on Sundays. I had heard lots about Joe's place so I'm glad that they were open. They had a nice variety of choices for breakfast. I chose the Chilaquiles supreme and my husband had pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Both of us enjoyed our meals. The pancakes were fluffy and warm. The sausage was big blinks which I don't see very often anymore usually, they are tiny and scrawny. They checked our coffee and kept it filled to the brim. It was kind of funny as I sat there. My husband chose a table in the corner, like we were being bad kids, but you never know it because breakfast was so good. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Nice café with a local family ambience casual with plenty of seating. This is a cool old home turned restaurant. There's also plenty of parking on the street and in their parking lot which I missed, but I know I can park somewhere next time. Unfortunately the hostess and waitress were very rude to my family this Sunday morning while we patiently waited for a table. I understand this is a busy time for the staff, but totally uncalled for. Love a spot with a great origin story. If you flip to the back of the menu, you can read all about how Joe's came to be. This Veteran friendly establishment is your typical diner filled with huge portions and hearty meals. One of the biggest pros of this place is that you can get your pancakes or french toast with bacon and eggs. None of these one or the other business! Be warned, the pancakes are massive! I decided to full send and go with the chicken fried steak. It was topped with their thick gravy. It was pretty good. The fry kept falling off from the meat, so I'd find myself with a mouthful of just breading. I was a fan of the hash browns that were the perfect crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside. I came in for a late breakfast, just minutes before closing & I'm so glad they accommodated. I had a great French Toast breakfast with eggs cooked to my liking, a huge sausage patty. The sausage was way more than I could finish, it also included bacon. I walked to this place because someone said it was just up the road where I had originally parked. Well that walk took 10-15 min of my time, but so worth it & I even had a walk to help with such a big breakfast. First I will say that it was great for my husband who is not gluten free he had what he said was the best biscuits and gravy he's had in a long time. However I'm celiac and was told everything is crossed contaminated except the corn tortillas. I still ate the eggs and hash browns but I would have rather not. This is a busy restaurant on a Sunday morning when our party of 4 ate brunch, but our server was attentive and friendly. The food was pretty standard. I had the patty melt and everyone else had breakfast...eggs, bacon, hash browns, French toast. Everyone seemed to like the food just fine. I ordered a side of Au jus to dip my burger in. Stopped in here for breakfast on our way out of town based on recommendations from a couple others we were traveling with. We almost didn't stay because there were so many people waiting, but they sat people fairly quickly, so I think we waited maybe 15 minutes or so. The breakfasts our group got were very good.
