John Brewer's is the embodiment of a comfortable New England pub. Hands down the perfect place to watch a game - especially if you can snag a booth with its own television. Nothing but blah here. Wanted a place to watch the game. John Brewer's delivered on that, but that's about it. Our spinach and artichoke dip was inedible -- way too creamy, barely any spinach. chicken pot pie, delicious. Nicely flavored with chicken and no need for extra salt or pepper. They top it off with a puff pastry. Sandwiches are also good, but the fries... depends. they keep them under the hot lamp too long sometimes. They get 4 stars for the service. Well, I have to say... I agree with much of what has been said (TV explosion, greasy and slightly scary in hot weather) However, John Brewers IS within walking distance from my abode so- ya, I consider myself a regular visitor. I go for the beer (Wachusett Blueberry) and the DELICIOUS nachos --(they are REALLY the best around)... I have also found a few things edible on the menu ( I promise!).. I HIGHLY recommend checking out the specials. The apps are almost always delicious (steak and cheese spring rolls YUM) and the specials ARE appealing (the stuffed salmon was SOO GOOD!). Even my nieces actually eat most of their meals (and some of everyone else's) and at four and five yrs old, thats saying alot..(i.e. KID FRIENDLY!!!) The only thing they didnt like were the chicken fingers which had a panko bread crumb breading...( If you order the boneless wings without any sauce, I think they would prefer it) If you've never been and are looking to ty it out, go with hope. 9 out of 10 of our meals have been decent. Watch out for LATE night meals.... But they are willing to take anything off the tab AND offer a dessert.. Great and friendly service- have NEVER been disappointed with that!! PS... The "back door" of the bar area seems exclusively for smokers to go in and out to smoke, bringing the nasty smelly cigarette stench BACK in where its not wanted.. came here for my best friends baby shower. Was HIGHY disappointed. for one- the preselected sandwiches were hard to chew and tasteless and dry. the greens for the salad was wilted. We had 18 guests in our party and we were put on two tables of ten- in a small room- so we were all separated. I feel like I didn't get to mingle with the rest of our party. worst part of our experience is the server was VERY pushy with our host about making sure we were gone by 4/430 for the football game! I was mortified. She didn't just mention it once- she mentioned it at least 4 times. Some of the people who came to the shower drove a REALLY far distance and are not local.. so I found this behavior from our server preposterous. The deal was great! For $12 you got a Burger which was quite tasty and four 4oz Taster Pours of whichever Beers you wanted to try. I got Bacon Mushrooms and Swiss Cheese on my burger and substituted for Sweet Potato Fries. for just a couple bucks more, so with Tip it was less than $20. The atmosphere was great. I love JB's. It's our neighborhood bar so we go there often. Friendly staff, decent food, good beer selection. There are two sides of the restaurant, dining room and tavern, each with slightly different atmospheres. The dining room is more family-oriented and quieter. On the tavern side there is a mix of bar seating, high tops, and booths, with lots of TVs. They have deals several nights of the week; check the website. The staff is the best part of the experience. They are friendly, attentive, remember the names of many regulars, and always make sure you're taken care of. read more

This place is a good place to have a simple meal and a beer. Burgers are nice and juicy. The beef stew is awesome. I tried a bite of my friends mac and cheese and have plans for that in the future. Their coalition salad is perfect. Everything I've had here has been good. Nothing is particularly complex or exciting, but I've never been disappointed. It's a great place to grab a quick lunch, or to have an after work beer and burger. read more

Really bummed about my first experience here. I called and reserved a table for 7 and we were seated quickly. Everyone's food came out looking pretty fabulous, but not my chicken pot pie. I waited for about 5 mins while everyone ate and then my pot pie arrived, piping hot. It looked soooo good, at first, but the puff pastry on top was not cooked one bit and once I bit in, I found it to be like a bowl of soup with a large uncooked biscuit in the center of it. I sampled other meals (scrod, meatloaf, ribs) and they all were pretty stellar, so I may give this place another chance. read more

I ordered the veggie burger and it was COVERED in beef, being cooked on the SAME GRILL. Told the manager and he gave me a "sorry". I hope my breastfed 6 month old can handle that type of protein since he has never ingested it. Will never come back even though it's around the corner from my work. Wings on Sun & Mon nights are a great deal and a perfect excuse to have some beers with friends. Kind of silly that you have to pay for blue cheese and veggies but I understand that it's still a great deal. Sweet potato fries are yummy too. Also enjoyed the butterball shots! read more

Writing reviews is hard. I kind of feel like i'm documenting my life. I have been reading reviews of people who just use yelp to utterly trash a restaurant. So,,,,,, I go to this place about once a month in a group that ranges from 4 to 6 people. we get more or less the same things every time. it is the same every time. it is exactly what it claims to be. Pros: the buffalo wings are good the nachos are good sliders and fries are good. we always show up between 8 and 9 on a monday or thursday, and it's easy to get a table. Things are what they are in life, and based on the vibe of this place, turn away from premium cocktails. of course I don't know, as based on the way the place is, that would be a bad bet. however, it's sort of a sports bar kind of place and they have an "OK beer selection". A bunch of regional brews. I don't see the bartenders making premium martini's and such. on a side note, here in the northeast the choice of local brewers is amazing I can't see why anyone would buy beer from a far away place. the prices are reasonable and the servers have ALWAYS been friendly I started out at 3 stars, but as I was writing, I changed it to 4. Cons: well not much, but with all the regional beer around Boston, a "brewhouse" ought to (IMHO) have a GREAT beer selection. to the people there, see you next month! read more

Everything about our experience was just "Okay". The food tasted good but it was unspectacular and generic. The service was fine, our waitress was friendly but a touch slow. I was treating my mom out for dinner and she had a good time and really enjoyed our outing, which was the most important thing. Frankly, I am personally unlikely to choose to visit again but if I am with a group that decides to dine here, I won't mind eating here. read more

I have gone a few times to this Tavern and the food was okay. Went last night and this will be our last visit. The food was horrible. My son had chicken fingers but could not eat them as they were so hard and crispy. My turkey club was dry and the my french fries were reheats. My husband ordered a diet coke and given a pitcher of coke when asking for a refill. Coke was awful, a nasty cheap brand of coke and not the Pepsi/Coca Cola were paid for. This place used to be okay to go to with my two young kids but sorry to say they have lost us now. read more

I have been going here for years. The wait staff is always attentive and understanding, and I have never had a meal that was "bad". One thing that could be approved on is the quantity. Not knowing where to go for dinner, we saw this tavern and thought to give it a try. We appreciated the lack of cookie-cutter restaurants in the area. This place had great service and food. I went on Monday with my girlfriend. It was OK nothing exciting about it really. Probably a fun place to watch a game or something if you are into that. I got the Mac & Cheese which I was excited about. Unfortunately, it wasn't that exciting. It wasn't as much food as I hoped it would be and it wasn't very good really. This dish is kind of the reason I don't like ordering mac and cheese out. I get excited for an amazing plate of food and just get let down.
